GT Fish and Oyster Ratings and Reviews
GT is always a great place for good seafood! The clam chowder is the best I've ever had. The fish tacos are to die for. And the saffron risotto with sausage and swordfish is a great meal on a cold Chicago night. The service is always the best and the chef is an amazing guy! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Good food, though a bit pricey. I graded them down for a service failure. They asked if we wanted drinks (it was lunch) and I started to order a glass of wine and then said, "no, I don't want to sleep at work. Do you have bottled water?" She said they had San Pellegrino. I said fine. She then brought out a huge bottle (which cost $7). If they didn't have individual serving bottles, she should have told me in advance.
Sensational food and super-cool staff at this seafood–centric scene.
Love it every time! Enjoyed the sparkling rose (which as trendsetters, they’ve poured since their inception and I still love), shrimp bruschetta with avocado and a little kick, BEST mussels marinara ever (!) Period. A perfect amount for 2 plus 8 delectable slices of buttered toasted challah-like toast to soak up all of the chunky tomato sauce. (Not grilled with burn marks which I hate). Total Perfection! Equally prepared to perfection is their lobster roll - BEST EVER! Typically I enjoy it here chilled with mayo and celery but now that it’s cold out they offered a brilliant surprise second option to serve it warm with butter in the same delectable sweet bread toasted and a generous pile of their signature onion strings (to die for!) and pickled veggies (so so). I would prefer a small fresh fruit salad or some lightly dressed lettuce and tomato or medley of tomatoes or a green veggie or fresh veggie medley over the pickled beets, etc. But least of my worries cause we were SO full of pleasure and contentment. Service is excellent, plenty of servers to wait on us throughout. Kudos to the owners, staff and chef for their committed dedication to excellence! :)
Highly rated in Yelp we decided to try. The atmosphere was nice, the server was very attentive but the good was fair at best. The portions are very small (tapas) so you have to order several items. The oysters were very fishy tasting although being from Boston we are very spoiled with super fresh oysters. Sadly I have to say I would not bother to come here again.
Freshest oysters I've ever had in the midwest! Service was outstanding and honestly there wasn't anything we ordered that didn't taste great. Dessert is a must and you have to order the Pb & J Panna Cotta! Will be back again very soon and looking forward to trying out brunch.
This was my second visit. I liked it very much the first time, and I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t a fluke. It sure wasn’t! The food is delicious. The oysters are half price after 9 PM! They tasted fresh out of the ocean. Chloe, my server, was absolutely terrific. She dealt with my allergies with grace and creativity. All the staff are friendly and warm. I love it here; it is now my go to place every time I am in Chicago.
My husband and I have dined here several times, so we decided to take my parents here to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. As usual, GT did not disappoint. The food and service were fantastic and the waitress even gave my parents a special gift when we opted out of ordering dessert (which I’m assuming was going to be one the House). It’s extra things like this that make a restaurant standout. Thank you GT for another great dining experience.
My two friends and I had our annual reunion dinner at the cozy corner table which was perfect for catching up. We shared oysters, fish tacos, a cold lobster roll, crab cake, enhanced by dirty martinis. Yum. All the staff at GT Fish and Oyster are professional, attentive, and pleasant. Highly recommend.
Service was excellent. Food was very good to excellent, great for sharing small/medium plates.
We got 4 plates, which was perfect for two. Additionally, I have a gluten sensitivity and our server was extremely accommodating, both with recommendations and menu changes. Highly recommend. The only thing I can say negative about GT's was the "small pours" with wine, but with that being said, we will go back again the next time we are in town.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and it was an amazing. The atmosphere was great and the servers went above and beyond. There was never a moment that we were idly waiting. At the end of dinner they offered my girlfriend a complimentary dessert and had it decorated to celebrate her birthday.
Stop already and reserve a table at this place right now! We had our late dinner at the bar and the food, service and drinks were impeccable! We watched the variety of dishes and seafood platter being prepared behind the bar while chatting and enjoying everything we have ordered. Everything was delicious and perfectly proportioned, but there were 2 items that were just too good; the JUMBO shrimps cocktail and the octopus. Please do yourselves a favour and order those 2 items because you will thank me later ;)
GT Fish & Oyster has been a favorite of ours for a few years. Unfortunately, their prices have gone up and portions have gotten smaller. While we were happy with the taste of everything we ordered, we were left slightly unsatisfied after dinner.
That said, the peanut butter & jelly panna cotta should NOT be missed. Portion size was perfect for two after a lighter dinner and it was the best dessert we'd had in a long time.
Our dinner at GT was absolutely fantastic. This restaurant has become one of our new favorites in the city. The service was excellent (thanks, Hannah for the recommendations!) and the atmosphere was high-end coastal, decorated perfectly for a date night or a group get-together.
I will recommend this place to all my foodie friends and will be bringing visiting family members because now I'd like to experience their brunch!!
We had the following, in rank order:
1. Lobster Roll (butter)- had to try it because of rave reviews. Huge portion, very tasty.
2. Oyster Po Boy Slider - the slaw was very refreshing and flavorful. Sweet bun was a nice touch.
3. Grilled Swordfish on saffron rice - paella/gumbo flavor. Delighted by rich combo of flavors.
4. Clam Chowder - split into two bowls, great to share!
5. Snapper Crudo - incredible and smooth flavor. Interesting pairing. Great for sushi fans!
6. Raw Oysters - my husband favors West Coast, Hammersby. Loved the paired sauces.
**Had a fantastic Old Fashioned cocktail and my husband really loved his pale ale beer.
