The food was fantastic. Portion size a bit small and a bit pricey for my regular night out, but seafood was fantastic and the Service was amazing!
The meals was terrific and the staff was incredibly attentive.
Outstanding service! One of the most cordial places I’ve been.
Such a great Birthday dinner for my significant other! Our favorite dishes were the scallops, clam chowder, and linguine with clams!
Awesome food. Curtis was fabulous! If you go in ask for him.
Creative and well executed seafood with a hint of an Asian aesthetic vibe. Knowledgeable wait staff, a terrific, sleek venue any evening any occasion, made all the better because it is one of the few serious restaurants open in central Chicago on a Monday evening. Perfect for business visitors in town for Monday and stuck for somewhere great to eat that isn't an overpriced steakhouse.
This was a recommendation from a friend who lived in Chicago for 30 years. I was expecting a "Boston type" old dark place, but boy, what a surprise! Sleek and modern, close seating without being too crowded, ridiculously good food with a very creative menu. I ordered the deviled eggs which came in their shells with the top cracked off. More like an egg mousse filled the shell, top with caviar. Completely different, but exceptional. And who would think of a crab cake as a rectangular piece with little roasted cauliflower florets and dollops of sauce. I could go on and on, but i hope you get the picture. Excellent service! DEFINITELY go if you're in Chicago!
One of the best seafood places I have been in the Midwest. We tried oysters, crab, mussles and clam chowder as well as their deserts. The staff was very attentive but not in your face and made sure we had everything we needed. They very very knowledgeable about the menu, made great recommendations and were just very friendly. We will definitely come back for more!
Our server Katie was phenomenal. She was knowledgeable, attentive, and gracious.
GT Fish and Oyster gave us the opportunity to try dishes that we would not ordinarily try to prepare on our own. The food was great, but the service was better. I really got to enjoy my company and every need we had was taken care of by multiple members of the staff. Our server was one of the best I have had in any restaurant I have ever dined. Fantastic experience and wonderful food!
Excellentbservice,amazing food greatvdeal
Fish tacos were quite good. Chowder was more bacon than clams, small portion for the price. Very loud in the restaurant.
FABULOUS! SO DELICIOUS, CANNOT WAIT TO RETURN!
OYSTER SELECTION WAS AMAZING. TRIED MANY DIFFERENT ITEMS, MANY OF WHICH
WERE IN THE OMG GOOD. AND THE DESSERTS, NOT TO BE MISSED.
The menu isn’t large but there’s a wide variety of creative, tasty, hot and cold dishes and the cocktails were also great. While not billed as tapas the dishes are on the smaller side and sharing is encouraged. We each picked 3 for dinner as well as a dessert. It’s not cheap for Chicago... some of the dishes seemed quite expensive for what we got but in the end it was a good meal. I’ll be back.
One of the best meals my family had in Chicago! Since there were 4 of us adults (same family), we ate family style, thus trying several dishes. Not to miss are: Tuna Poke, Alaskan crab legs ($45 but worth EVERY PENNY, astray are as soft and buttery as, well, butter itself! Best ever tasted in the world), Shrimp bruschetta with avocado, Oyster Po'Boy (even picky eater among us loved this so much, we ordered double) linguine with clams ( an above perfect rendition of a classic)...Can't wait to visit Chicago again to try their other restaurants (GT Prime, Girl and Goat , etc) ....NOTE OF CAUTION: we ordered a $100 bottle of sake (in a silver-fish screw cap can) that was way off. I would say stick to wine or other alcohol and skip the sake.
The best bite was the tuna poke. Oysters and champagne always a great choice. Great evening.
I went with a larger group of six so in order for everyone to get a taste of some plates you have to order two. Go with the most shareable plates instead like the fish tacos, the fish and chips, broccoli salad, the pasta dish is also good. Our server let about 15 min go by before greeting us after we were seated. Wrong dishes (the more substantive ones) were brought out towards the end of the meal adding at least 45 minutes to our already slow dining experience, and we had to remind at least once of drinks we had ordered and had not yet arrived. Overall, the food is good but I wish the service had been better since this outing was a special occasion family dinner. For the price, GT Fish did not meet expectations based on the other Open Table reviews.
Unique brunch option.
Shrimp bruschetta is THE best! Refreshing and unique combo of flavors Other items you won’t want to miss: “deviled” egg, clam chowder, lobster roll (hot with butter), and the crab stack. This is our favorite restaurant in Chicago— love the shared plate experience.
This was my second time here and everything was great! The linguini and clams was phenomenal - flavorful and cooked perfectly and surprisingly light. We also got the whole fish, which was amazing!
The meal was wonderful. We split several of the items on the menu which was great because we could try many different items. Everything was great. I will definitely be back again
The decor is very well thought out. We went for Easter brunch and my bday so the menu was a prefixed one. Still very delicious options and good sized portions.
Our server Alejandro went above and beyond with recommendations for my gluten allergy and he was always around at the right time for refills or questions.
We were bothersome asking for shirts I’m sure but they sold us one and since they didn’t have my size they just threw in a bandana for free!
He also left a lasting impression with my bday/Easter gift basket and more complimentary homemade peeps for dessert. He didn’t have to offer these but it made all the difference.
I think his overall service was extremely attentive and friendly. Perfect Sunday brunch spot for when we return!
Came for Easter Brunch, the service started off great from the moment we walked in the door! But that was as far as great service we got. The menu was pre-fixe family style, food was good but they forgot 2 items from the menu and the kids pancakes were raw! Also we didn’t get new plates after the first couple of courses, after noticing other tables were provided new plates and silverware.
Hit the ball out of the park! Everything was perfect! Presentation of food, great staff, and killer brownie dessert made my wife happy, which is nearly impossible.
We had a lovely experience! The service was spectacular and the food was absolutely delicious. I'd highly recommend!
I've eaten a lot of oysters in my 68 years in too many locations to list here. The Sunset Beach variety served here were the best I've ever had! We also found the Monk Fish and the Crab Cake to be simply superb. Service was just the way we ;ike it - attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back for more!
We scheduled a special dinner out for my family of four to celebrate a graduation. Our table was right next to the front door but was surprisingly cozy. This is sort of like a Tappas restaurant and everything is presented as "small plate". We ordered quite a bit, and every single dish was absolutely amazing! The wait staff was just right and not overly attentive but definitely informed about all of the dishes. I can't think of a single dish that we truly did not think was awesome. I would highly recommend this to anyone, especially a foodie because they will be blown away by the quality and complexity of some of these dishes. The dessert was excellent as well. I'd try to list some of the dishes we ordered but other than the fish and chips and shrimp cocktail I'd be hard pressed to describe exactly what we ate except that it was wonderful. Of course this all does come at a pretty steep price. Granted we were not looking to save money on this evening but going in you should know with a total of two martinis the entire bill was ~$300 for the four of us. For a special occasion money well spent. I would definitely go back.
Love me some GT Oyster!
Amazing food coupled with attentive service. Great place!!!
Everything was delicious and the service was great. I was really impressed and definitely recommend.
Excellent choice downtown if you are in the mood for seafood. Not totally loving small plates but here some of these sharing dishes are quite large. The lamb was surprisingly good and very big ... other favorites were the monkfish and cold tuna salad ... the NE chowder was smoky and tasty but a bit pricey. Nice oyster selection as you would expect and the panna cotta dessert was delicious and innovative ... I thought the cold sobs noodles were nothing special and the same with the tuna poke. Tasty but not particularly memorable.
Excellent bright fresh small plates!
Lovely as always! Delicious food. Calm atmosphere. Great server, quick and attentive.
The food and service was excellent.
We've now had two visits in a row that were slightly disappointing. The food is good (not great) and the portions are tiny. We shared a clam chowder and we were each served literally 5 teaspoonfuls of soup. I was excited to order Tuna Poke, thinking GT would do a wonderful job -- but we got a tiny plate of tuna tartare -- OK, but not anything close to what the menu promised. Our server started out fantastic -- but slowly fizzled out, to the point that someone else brought our check. We have a lot of seafood places to try, and I think we'll skip GT next time.
Perfectly shucked oysters! The Hamachi Crudo was outstanding. Great service, affordable prices and fresh seafood. Can't wait to go back
Expensive but a very well done meal. Whole Branzino was delicious.
I‘ve been coming back - whenever in town - for several years now, and will keep coming back. This time, I was one of those post-9pm arrivals the folks in the kitchen hate, but every dish came out impeccable even though the place was clearly shutting down on a slow weeknight, along with great beer/wine recommendations at the bar. It‘s just the tastefully done, super fresh, and with inventive plays around a clear seafood focus on the menu. And they have a serious Amaro list, which is rare in the U.S.!
good food nice place to eat quite friendly place menu somewhat limnited
Loved the sharing of dishes with the food coming out one at a time which allowed for great conversation throughout the meal. It was great to be able to try so many different things. The oysters were a little disappointing (smallish and not as flavorable as I had hoped for). Staff was great.
