What Insiders Are Saying
GT Fish & Oyster is ideal for those who like all the pleasures of the sea. Mandatory oysters to start.
Every thing was delicious, but disappointed that you use canola oil in your dressings & sauces. It changes the taste & is bad for you. Only Non GMO products should be used at an expensive Trendy restaurant like GT.
The clam chowder was excellent
First time we’ve been in awhile. Food, service, everything was MEH and prices high. Won’t return.
Really great experience overall— only bummer is the server didn’t know much about the vintage Amaris and, even when asking the bartender, didn’t get great info. My partner and I are both bartenders and asked some pretty standard questions about taste profile vs. the modern day product that couldn’t get answered. Drinks were great, though, service attentive and the food amazing.
It was good but overpriced
The food was very good but quite pricey. The service left a lot to be desired. Not sure if our waitress was just having a bad day but considering the $450 bill we got, I have never seen such a bad attitude on someone working with customers.
The food was great and the staff was amazing. My wife and I shared a couple of the small plate. The ceviche was a very tasty. We also had some west coast oysters that we were looking with very little sea taste. We also shared a lobster roll that had some of the best bread that I have had with a lobster roll. Would recommend to anyone for a place to eat for any dinner occasion.
Always love it - great food and fantastic service!
The service was unbelievable. As we waited for our table in the bar, we did not even have to catch the bartender's eye, as someone came to us to take our drink order. Our server was awesome. She knew the menu and the wine list backwards and forwards. And the food . . . it was unbelievable. Everyone must try the hamachi crudo. Other unbelievable plates were the smoked sturgeon and the clam chowder. And the oysters. Don't forget the oysters!
This was our first time at this restaurant. It was recommended to us by a relative that’s been to Chicago plenty of times.
Everything we tried was excellent. We had the octopus, oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, fish and chips, and the chocolate mousse for dessert.
We would definitely go back when we visit Chicago again!
We went for the Oysters and we not disappointed in the least! Can't wait to get back soon for some more delicious seafood!
We have been at this restaurant before and really enjoyed it. It was great for great fish and seafood. But now seafood seems to take second place to globs of sauce that totally overwhelm the fish or seafood that should be the star. We ordered the shared plate of ocopus and while the texture of the octopus was perfect, we could not taste it due to harissa sauce it was drowning in. Harissa should provide a nice bit of spice to enhance the flavor. In this case it was the only flavor. For our main course we shared th mussels and the fish tacos. The mussels werecovered with so much thick tomato sauce we had to dig tofind the mussels. Could not tell if they were any good as the sauce overpowered the entire dish. The sourdough bread accompanying it was a saving grace. Fish tacos were ordinary and not worth a visit for those.
Terrible service got told 3 times they were brewing my iced tea never got it. Wanted a seafood tower with just shrimp and crab got that AND a seafood tower. Really has fallen off never going back.
Margeaux was wonderful! Highly recommend the linguine and clams and hot lobster roll!
High prices/Small portions! There are many better seafood restaurants in Chicago that will cost you much less!
Great experience and service. Food was excellent and I would definitely dine again.
Gt oyster has the fantastic oysters and very nice selections.... Although they do have limited menu but you go there for the wonderful oysters and their shell fish and fish ... Their service is amazing. We had the tower this time for both of us and it was really good but we end up ordering the soup and crab cake which was the best crab cake I had.
Great food and service. I love coming here anytime I am in Chicago.
Love GT. Our favorite for any occasion. Food superb and service fantastic.
Our wedding anniversary and they made sure to seat us in the back for a little longer wait. Food was awesome, I probably wouldn’t get the lobster next time but it was still great. Mac and cheese was amazing
I took my family there for dinner - made a reservation a few weeks in advance but we were seated right next to the entrance where it was drafty and there was no privacy. However, the food was great (nice presentation and good quality overall), the decor was stylish and I'd go there again, making sure that I get a table further inside. The service was good, but felt very rushed - the waiters took away our plates as soon as we laid down our cutlery, even when the rest of our party were still eating. I'm pretty sure they had another group booked immediately after us, but in a restaurant of this quality, service should not be rushed. If they had to whisk away our plates and shove the dessert menu in our faces, they need to give more buffer time in between reservations.
Service was super slow. Food was amazing!
Went there for our Anniversary and the everyone went out of their way to make it a very special night. Our waiter guided us to some great dishes and outstanding wine pairings. It was a busy night with lots large tables around us but they took great care of us. Love this restaurant!
Fabulous! We were recommended by our waitress to do 2-3 dishes per person, and that was the perfect amount of food for two hungry adults. We started with a selection of 8 oysters, which were fresh and tasty! We also had the smoked trout and smoked sturgeon (very unique and smoked in-house), and I liked the sturgeon over my usual go-to, the trout. The snapper ceviche was INCREDIBLE. A must-try if you like ceviche, very fresh and clean-tasting, some of the best ceviche I’ve ever had. We also had the scallops and finished dinner with the mussels. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the mussels were a warm, filling end to the meal. I would eat the garlic bread dipped in the mussels sauce every day if I could! We enjoyed a few of the cocktails, each of which were unique and tasty. Our waitress was attentive, with delicious recommendations, while also leaving us to enjoy a nice date night. HIGHLY recommend this place if you’re a seafood lover in Chicago - can’t say enough good things about it. We’ll be back!
I found GT on a business trip to Chicago and go back every time I am in town. The people are friendly and the ambiance is great. The clam chowder is fantastic, as are the oysters and mussels, and the lobster roll is top-notch. Andrew is the best bartender and Hanna is a fantastic server - try to get one or both if you can.
The house-made ice cream was the best I had ever had...I recommend the toasted coconut.
Good location, good food, perfect if not so expensive.
Wonderful good, very attentive and helpful staff. We got a cozy corner table and it was comfortable and quiet enough to have good conversation. Food was excellent!
great for a birthday dinner! i go every year on my big day and its always the best!
The seafood is always fresh. Great selection of oysters. I had the scallops which were prepared well. Good cocktails.
It was a fish restaurant with an absence of fish on the weekend lunch menu. Very nice staff and management.
Great service and even better food. It's always a wonderful meal. GO!
Outstanding service and flavorful menu. Will return when in Chicago again
GT Oyster is the best! The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and the seafood is the best in Chicago! They took amazing care of me for my birthday!
We arrived late in the evening (details irrelevant). The staff was generous & reassuring. No rush at all. Took a special friend there from California - she loved it. I normally don't like panda cotta, but this was the best panda cotta dessert I have ever had. I'd loved to eat two.
We met my visiting niece for Sunday dinner. The vibe was noisy; everyone seemed to be having a good time. However, since the tables were very close, it was difficult to follow your own table's conversation. The service was excellent. I'm diary-free, pescatarian and my son is vegetarian. The server was very forth-coming with options.
I had fish and chips, served with malt vinegar - very good and shared by all. I also ordered the eggplant side dish which was not to any of our liking - the eggplant was mushy and the asian sauce too sweet. I had a mango sorbet - delightful! I did not try the other dishes, but all enjoyed their choices.
Food was great but service was spotty, at best. Not to caliber or worth prices. Bartender was terrific, however.
Been a while since we’ve been here; probably will be the last time. Value is minimal, considering service
GT Fish and Oyster is one our favorite date night restaurants in Chicago. Recommend to anyone who likes good food, great service, and excellent ambiance. Will keep coming for years to come!
