What Insiders Are Saying
GT Fish & Oyster is ideal for those who like all the pleasures of the sea. Mandatory oysters to start.
I love GT Fish. Everything on the menu is always delicious and they are always so accommodating when it comes to my diary allergy.
Coming from Boston, this was some of the finest seafood in the Chicago area. Smoked plate was terrific, good wine selection too. The lobster bisque was the best.
Server, Katie, FABULOUS!
Tables on the wall too close together back to back. Constantly hitting chairs with tables on either side
back or front. Knocking chairs!
We are from Japan.
Sea food is very good, especially shrimp.
Price is treasonable and I want to visit again when I will come to Chicago.
Outstanding service, followed by great food. Shrimp bruschetta was different but a unique and delicious taste, we loved the fish tacos and the mussels, plus a treat of a side of French fries. Finally, a fabulous piece of strawberry key lime pie. A 5 star experience.
Wonderful service and food. I highly recommend it.
We arrived on time but had to wait 35 min for our table and then were seated at arguably the worst table (in the bar area, not the main restaurant and right next to the door). We were given a free small appetizer but this does not make up for the extremely long wait and bad table. At least they could have comped the drinks we ordered in the 35min we were waiting and sent out the app during that time as we mentioned we were quite hungry.
Once we got the good it was great but I will still think twice before coming back.
We were waiting for a table for 40 min on our reservation, but the staff comped our drinks, which made up for the wait. Overall it was an amazing experience as always. Food was fantastic.
The seafood tower is amazing! Had a great selection of fresh oysters! All of the food was fresh and great tasting!
The wait staff were super professional and the food was delicious.
Very good place!
Melt in your mouth seafood! It is pricey, but the vibe is not pretentious and the service is exceptional!!!
Excelente lugar. Muy amables todos. Lo mejor fueron las almejas y el key lime pie
I was in the mood for oysters and this looked like the best place in Chicago to get some. They had a nice variety of West and East coast oysters, which were excellent, but in addition to that we enjoyed some delicious clam chowder, one of the best crab cakes I've ever eaten, and topped it all off by sharing a lobster roll. Yum!
First, the customer service was outstanding from first interaction till last. Valet parking was quick and easy. There was always someone checking in and making sure we had what we needed. Our main server was helpful with recommendations and suggestions since it was our first time there. We had a variety of fresh oysters which were all good. The grilled octopus was good too. Snapper ceviche was okay. The standout was the mussels with tomato sauce and sourdough bread. YUM!!! They have a avery interesting cocktail menu. I decided on a cocktail with date syrup that was kinda like an old fashioned and i really enjoyed it. It is a bit pricey (like $200 for two people for food, drinks, tax, and tip) but it was well worth it for a great meal at a great place.
Every dish was perfect! Spectacular service. We will be back soon
Visiting from New York we were told this was a terrific resteraunt to take my brother and sister in law. The nose level was a bit tough but the hostess found us a tackle that was a bit quieter. We all shared the appetizers and they were all delicious.. The main courses were not as successful. The taco was too bitter. The waiter messed up or lobster roll order and although it was good not as delicious as the classic mayo would have been. The only two negative were that we had a waiter that, although friendly, interrupted or toasts and conversions frequently and that the courses felt rushed.
Overpriced . For an oyster bar, subpar.... do not recommend.
The wedge salad was delicious and large enough to share. I had the mussels for my entree, and was greatly disappointed. The red sauce, while homemade, was way too salty. I couldn't drink enough water for the rest of the night. My husband enjoyed the scallop entree. We shared the strawberry key lime pie for dessert which was very good. This was our second visit, which was not as good as our first. I doubt we'll return, simply because of the over salted marinara sauce.
Excellent server but I don’t remember her name. Oysters were phenomenal-Pink Moon was our favorite and was recommended to us by the server (thank you!). I really liked the “pace” at which our food came out. Oysters first, then both apps, then more oysters (that we again ordered!), and then entree (which we ordered after). Lots of restaurants will just throw it all out at once.
Shrimp Bruschetta was our fave.
Very comfortable restaurant. Hostess and staff were all very welcoming. Will definitely recommend this restaurant and come back the next time we are looking for seafood “fine dining”.
Very enjoyable, great value with respect to the type of dining, quality of food, service, and price.
Customer service was incredible. The server and hostess were beyond nice and they even gave us a $25 gift card for our next visit. I’ll definitely be back
Amazing food and great drinks. Service was fast and friendly. First time there and loved it!
Wonderful experience! The staff and the food are amazing!!!
Used to be my favorite restaurant and I would go there once a month but after today's service I don't think I'm coming back at least for a while.
Really great lobster rolls and fried onions!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE GT's oysters on the half shell. always a great variety, fresh out of the sea. adore the fish and chips too...
A great dining experience. The contemporary room reflects the contemporary food coming out of the kitchen. The elegant preparation of buttery Hamache crudo paired with radish had the perfect melt in your mouth and crunch combination. The shared octupus starter also blended flavors and textures enhanced by the subtle harrissa sauce beneath each piece of octopus. Mussels were plump and plentiful in a wondrful tomato/basil sauce accompanied by toasted thick slices of excellent bread.
Service ws attentive without being intrusive.
It's a popular place so expect it to be busy and for service to be on the slower side. We sat at our table for at least 10m before anyone came by. Given the pricepoint one would expect more attentive staff. Regardless, the food quality is exceptional and good ambiance.
This is a place we visit every time we're in Chicago. The server we had (really wish I could remember her name) was one of the best I've ever had - extremely attentive, let us know why there was a delay, and even brought us a complimentary appetizer while we waited. Excellent customer service all around. We'll be back again.
The food is always incredible along with the service.
Great starters: oysters, poke, octopus and hamachi
Main courses were pretty good: fish well-prepared with good sauces
Deserts -- mille feuiles and ice cream -- were both delicious.
Our waitress, Katie I believe, was wonderful. Great service and the food was delicious. She had great recommendations and they were all so yummy!
Very poor front desk/reception staff and seating. Was not made to feel welcome, and when I requested a table not by the bar, my request was ignored. Very snobby. Waiter was excellent and food was good. I would however not recommend.
Really enjoy this place! Service is on point and food is fantastic and fresh
We went to GT Fish & Oyster to celebrate our anniversary, and we couldn't have picked a better place to go for our meal! We had theater tickets so we were limited on time, but the server, Becky, paced our meal perfectly so that we could get out on time but still enjoy a lovely dinner.
We started with a half dozen oysters which were fresh and delicious. We also got the green tea soba noodles and wedge salad w/crab. The soba noodles were interesting, and I am glad I tried them; however, I will probably skip them in future. The wedge salad is a definite a repeat though! The crisp bacon, house-made blue cheese dressing, and crab made this simple salad super memorable.
For our mains, my husband got the fish & chips, and I got the fideo. My husband's fish & chips were absolutely perfect! There wasn't too much batter on the crisp cod, and the dipping sauce was a perfect compliment. Also, the fresh fries were crispy which can sometimes be an issue when having fresh fries. I like them crispy. He said that he thought they were the best fish & chips he has ever had, even better than what we have had in England and Ireland. My fideo didn't disappoint either! Often times in dishes like fideo, restaurants will skimp on the seafood and add more starch to compensate. This was not the case at GT. They were extremely generous with the seafood, and the fideo was absolutely delicious! They ended our meal with a complimentary dessert for anniversary. It was a lovely vanilla cream with compressed apples served in an oyster shell - a perfect ending!
The food was wonderful, but the service was even better! Becky did a wonderful job with pacing, and she was friendly and helpful. The bussers never let our water glass go empty and promptly cleared plates. All in all the service and food was on point, and it was a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary!
Food was really good, but it took aprox 40min to arrive. Too much time.
The whole trout was seasoned perfectly with medium/sweet hot peppers and endive and sautéed exactly the way Iike it, not too soft. The over all flavor was citrus/szechuan without the heavy oils.
The octopus was nicely sautéed and deliciously tender.
The waiter was very help with the wine selection and offers us taste samples.
