About

Villa Rica is the latest original dining concept by renowned Chef Johnny Hernandez. Chef Johnny launches Villa Rica in partnership with the Guzman family of Veracruz Mexico, who have three generations of experience operating fine seafood restaurants in Veracruz, Puebla, and Mexico City. Villa Rica prides itself on a commitment to fresh, vibrant, quality dishes. The inventive menu boasts a creative variety of tacos, tostadas and ceviches inspired by the coastal cuisines of Veracruz, Baja, Sinaloa, Yucatan and the Pacific.

Freshly sourced seafood is brought in daily and all corn tortillas and tostadas are prepared from non-GMO stone ground corn, sourced from Hernandez' locally owned and operated Molino.

We were very excited to try Chef's new Mexican seafood restaurant in Blue Star. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. First of all, even with Google Maps, it was difficult to find The place. The restaurant looks like a fast food joint and shares a kitchen with BurgerTeca. Good for Chef, not good for the guest considering that the pricing is fitted to a nicer restaurant atmosphere. There was only one other table in the place, and service was extremely slow...took ten minutes just to receive margaritas for three people. The food was good, but, once again, the pricing was way overpriced for the atmosphere. For three happy hour margaritas, one happy hour appetizer, and three entrees, the bill was $125!! When we received our bill, "BurgerTeca" was at the top, not Villa Rica.😕 Unfortunately, we won't be racing back anytime soon...too bad.

Villa Rica is a good place to enjoy a good meal in a light-atmosphere, well located, friendly spot. The Ceviche and the BBQ Octopus are my favorite. The service is friendly, attentive and professional. The Chef will come to your table and ask about his food.

We are big ceviche fans, which is what attracted us to this place. According to the manager, they have only been open since February of 2018, but they are doing it right. Their seafood is Veracruz-style Mexican seafood, so there is definitely a Gulf Coast influence. My wife and I split the Seafood Ceviche Tostada - it was excellent. Not the easiest to share, because it was on a tostada, but the seafood was perfect, fresh and flavorful. Not sure what the sauce was they had on it, but the lime certainly came through and it was very complimentary to the seafood. We went for small plates for entrees. My wife had the chipotle shrimp taco and I had the soft-shelled crab taco - both were outstanding. Service was excellent, staff was friendly and informative without being annoying. My only complaint is that the acoustics are terrible, so having a quiet dinner conversation is not easy - in fact a bit impossible with concrete floor, "slick" walls, etc. If they could do something about that, the place would be perfect.

This was an amazing experience. Everyone was quick, attentive and made us feel taken care of. The whole experience was wonderful. I only wish I had four more stomachs to be able to sample the entire menu! We will definitely be returning. The food was like an elevated version of dishes that my grandmother would make and was just wonderful, muy rico! Needless to say we have been spreading the good word of mouth to everyone who will listen. I only wish I could keep this place all to myself but I would never deny someone the opportunity to experience the quality of service, atmosphere and cuisine of such a wonderful establishment. ¡Gracias por todo!

I can’t recommend this place enough. Every single thing was great; service, food, atmosphere. I highly recommend going here. It was like a true culinary experience. The chef came out to thank us for coming and even remembered what we ordered! It’s a great quality of experience and food for the price. 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽

Soooooo good 😋

Very nice location and beautifully decorated. The staff was kind and attentive though it took longer than it should have to be served , which was surprising as it wasn't busy. My only real complaint was regarding the salsas served with the chips. Please change to more authentic ones.

Our 2nd time to visit Villa Rica! We took friends that love GOOD FRESH Seafood and we all loved the dishes that we tried! You won't be disappointed in this unique menu! We tried the Seafood Tostada (Yum), the Peruvian Ceviche Nikkei (ate every bite) and then the Chipotle Shrimp Taco, and then the Fish Minilla Empanadas and then for drinks we had the Pimm's Gin which must have been great because they ordered another! My personal favorite cocktail is the Basil Peach Margarita!! Oh My Goodness!
For Dessert, save room for it! We had the Choco Rico! Absolutely for Chocolate Lovers! If you want a dessert that you will love forever, you have got to try the Sweet Corn Torte with Coconut Ice Cream!
Villa Rica, you are doing a great job so stay consistent and we will keep returning! Thank you for showing your hospitality!

Chef Hernandez hit 5 stars with my husband and I! San Antonio did not have this kind of Restaurant! We went around 5:30 and it was a great time to go! Our waitress was attentive to our needs as well as others staff! Keep up the great work, Chef!

We Waited over 40 minutes despite having a reservation. They stated they ran out of guacamole but brought sliced avacados and pico. We couldn’t get salsa for a second basket of chips. Octopus was very greasy.

The food was very good and the seafood was very fresh and tasty. We enjoyed the aquatic animals sculptures on the walls, too. However, the noise levels were pretty high, preventing comfortable conversations.

Tuna app was fantastic, as was the Soft Shell Crab taco and Veracruz fish of the day. Cool location on the south river and service was on point. Well done!

Mediocre food and the service was poor, inconsistent and frustrating and we are not picky or demanding people by any means.

Very Surprising since I highly respect Johnny Hernandez and his other restaurants.

Will not spend another Father’s Day celebration here again nor recommend it to others. Not the highlight of the day for sure.

Please fix this for other people and to save your “brand”.
