We have been to this restaurant several times and every time, it is excellent. We always seem to get the same waiter who’s name is Stash. He is extremely knowledgeable of the way the food is prepared and also of all the wines that are offered. I highly recommend this establishment.
We had a wonderful time! Excellent dinner! excellent service and very cozy atmosphere. Comfort food served in an elegance. We will make sure to come back!
Our original plans for Saturday night were cancelled, and we stumbled upon Grunauer Bistro while looking through Open Table reviews. How right they were! This restaurant is a true gem - authentic through and through, from the food, to the waiters, to the ambiance - what a treat! We ordered the Wienerschnitzel and the Sauerbraten - both were outstanding! Our waiter, Stanislav, was very knowledgeable about the wine and beer list, and made great suggestions for us. What a great find - we will be back!
Pleasant but overpriced!
Lovely experience. Arrived at 6:45 in time for the price fixe. Setting sunshine was streaming into the restaurant, elegant ambiance, superb service, delicious food. Will definitely go again.
They were so nice that they allowed me to have 2 entrees for a 3 course prefix
Excellent Austrian food, very good service, Austrian wine list very satisfactory.
I love this place! It is beautiful. The food is excellent and the service is super friendly. It is a winner.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Loved it!
Pretty wood paneled room. Very attentive service. The Wiener schnitzel was great. We went for that and will go back for the other specialties. Can’t wait to try the goulash and chicken paprikash.
It doesn't get much more authentic than Grunauer Bistro! From the staff (amazing!) to the cuisine to the wood-paneled atmosphere, it's a beaut! Plenty to choose from the Austrian Menu.
Viener Snitzel was great (but pricey) and our friend had the boiled beef (100 times better than it sounds!).
Just mind the prices. Not cheap....but worth it every once in a while.
A friend had just returned from his first trip to Vienna, and I thought we should celebrate appropriately. From the moment we entered, we were beautifully treated. Our waited could not have been more attentive. The food, from the appetizer to the beef to the spectacular jam-filled little crepes, was exquisite. I would go back anytime!
Best service in any restaurant in NYC.Also excellent Austrian food.
Excellent food, terrific service, and great ambiance.
Excellent food and desert tender meat, stellar quality, perfect spicing and all in a beautifully laid out dining room and excellent service
We were the youngest by far, and I wouldn’t describe it as affordable, but the waiters were very knowledgeable about Austrian food, and both the trout and the boiled beef were exceptional.
We've been going here for quite a number of times, food and service is superb, this is my favorite Austrian restaurant in the neighborhood or perhaps within New York City.
This is a MUST try restaurant, you will love the experience.
Grünauer Bistro serves excellent classic Viennese dishes that are authentic, Wiener Schnitzels, Spätzle, Goulash, Braised Red Cabbage and Apple Strudel, all so mouth watering. It’s an elegant dining setting with impeccable service, very friendly professional staff. Thoroughly enjoyed dining here, it’s become a favorite haunt, the bonus is the old time feel of familiarity for it is a new restaurant, unique to find this dining atmosphere today.
A good neighborhood find with hearty, authentic Austrian cuisine. The trout and the tafelspitz were both very good but the latter did not come with the spinach, as described on the menu. Chocolate cake was very good. Will return.
One of the best we’ve ever had in New York.
Great Austrian meal, loads of fun.
This restaurant is AMAZING! The food was great-tasting and beautifully presented; the ambience of Vienna. We come here once a year or so...we have to come more often; thanks to the staff for making this a wonderful meal and experience for us.
Old world service and delicious Viennese cuisine, which is not the easiest to find in NYC.
Good authentic Austrian food!
You can tell it is special by the staff at the door to the waiter through
the menu. This is our first but not the last occasion we'll find to use
their seasonal ingredients. The beef broth, asparagus and our
main courses all presented with care. The staff are attentive
and able to put good wine into the meal. The wait staff made
all our dishes appear in good time. I hope to return with my
husband to try the piano bar.
We went with traditional Austrian specials including the wines, so it was a nice, unique experience overall. Duck pate was smooth and buttery. Roasted beet salad (with both red and golden beets) was punchy-flavorful. Chicken paprikash with spaetzle and butter leeks, and tender sliced venison with braised cabbage were our uber-traditional mains. They definitely pleased all around. Venison was cooked to perfection. I can't remember the last time I've had a more enjoyable steak; perhaps L'Entrecote? Apfelstrudel was textbook, but the chestnut puree crepes were pretty sublime. Did I mention there's a grand piano in the front window?
We came specifically for a Salzburg Nockrel. This is a dessert, that I ate in Salzburg, Austria and it’s amazing!
This dessert was ok, not great at all.
On my opinion, it was undercooked. Also, in Salzburg, they give you a fresh raspberry sauce on the side as well.
Authentic Austrian cuisine with great old world feel and service..very comfortable room. Lots of room between tables.. The hostess made us feel welc9me immediately.
The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely. It is warm and slightly romantic. The prices are a bit high, particularly for the specials and the portions are relatively small for the price. Overall though, I recommend the restaurant for a good mean in a cozy and warm environment.
The restaurant is charmingly appointed with old world paneling, the tables are not too small and the food is very well prepared and beautifully presented. They have seasonal specials and are among the few restaurants that serve game when in season, and th4e service is very attentive. I will and have recommended it to my friends.
Authentic Austrian on the upper East side! Sea scallop appetizer was exceptional. Venison in a wine reduction was amazingly tender - sous vide - was exquisite.
Caught my attention because of the name. There’s a restaurant in Vienna with the same name. Belongs to her brother apparently. Great authentic restaurant.
It is a joy to have another German/Austrian restaurant in the neighborhood and it is good.
This was my third time at this restauruant and the entire overall experience was great.
The decor is rich and inviting. The food the wine and the service are all come together for a nice dining experience.
Food is good but way too expensive for regular dining and not that special to be reserved for birthdays and other special occasions. The dining room is however. exquisite.
Good service, aiming to give you a feel of old Yorkville, yet losing confidence that that is enough. Good wine list, excellent dishes yet they veer away from Austrian, what can make them unique, to Italian, French, etc. Pea soup was fantastic, but arrived too hot. Butter out of fridge so cold, and red wine also a bit cold, not good for a winter's night. So all of the pieces there, with attentive staff, but some tweaking could really make this a gem.
We've visited and reviewed positively before, but chose to celebrate Valentine's Day here, and it was a good decision. They were filled to capacity (as they deserve to be every night), but still running on all cylinders. Stuck with traditional Viennese fare, and were pleased with everything we ordered. It seems like they've "lightened" some of their recipes (Sauerbraten gravy was thinner than usual, with no loss of flavor), maybe to encourage us to come back more frequently! Only downside: they seemed to be out of several wine-list choices, and steered us instead toward the house-owned labels.
A real find. Outstanding and authentic Austrian food at a reasonable price. Great ambiance and wonderful service made for an evening I intend to repeat again soon.
Authentic Viennese dishes featuring outstanding ingredients resulting in delicious flavours! Not to mention great service every time!
