Growlers of Gaithersburg Ratings and Reviews
A great selection of beers and sandwiches were excellent. Nobody in my party ordered dinners but entrees have always been good in the past. Waitress was excellent supplying beer samples for tasting and getting separate checks for our party .. no mistakes! Only complaint is with noise level.. little hard too hear conversation. .. but typical brewpub atmosphere. Great for our men's group. .. we'll be back.
We couldn't get a reservation for 8 at a chain restaurant nearby on a Saturday night so went to Growlers instead. Everyone liked their food and the service was good, especially given that we were a big group. No complaints - we will happily return when we are in the area.
Went last Saturday with the family to try something new. Unfortunately the pub was seemingly short-staffed, and service was overwhelmed and forgetful ( I asked twice for a glass of water that never arrived). The appetizer came out burnt, but was good even for that. We quite liked the fish and chips, and the chorizo burger was average. The biggest issue for us was the noise--the dining area is on the small side, and with nothing to dampen the sound in the space it got quite loud. That's okay for a happy-hour group, but not for a nice Saturday lunch. I think it would be a good bar spot, but as a restaurant not so much.
First, the service and the beer were outstanding. We had the seasonal beer (hint of pumpkin)and it was great. The waiter suggested I try a sample and that was a good idea because the sample beer was not to my liking but he made a recommendation to me and that was just right.
The food was very good and I am always pleased because the food always comes out of the kitchen very quickly. Also to be mentioned are the prices. The beer price is much lower than most all other chain restaurants we frequent in the area. Might be because they make the beer on site.
Great experience and we will be back soon.
Waiter was very helpful in selection of beers and even brought samples. Wife got lime blend and I got a porter, both were excellent. Ordered spinach artichoke appetizer and greubens (their version of Reuben with turkey or prime rib). Waiter said both were excellent, and he was right. Service got a little slow as crowd picked up. Will defiantly go again
I had a 1903 porter with the sliced prime rib sandwich and some wings. The porter was solid, but the standout hit in my mind was the old bay wings. It's a great idea I can't believe I've never seen in an entire lifetime in Maryland. Perfectly cooked with great flavor. The sandwich was good as well.
Service was good. Decor was nice, and everything was clean and in good shape.
Had a great experience here in every regard, the most puzzling thing was how empty it was! It was my first visit and it seemed as though the place should have been packed, and while there were a few people happily dining and drinking, the high quality of the beer, food, and restaurant didn't quite match the rather weak reception it was getting. Less people was a huge bonus for my group because we didn't have to shout our conversations, but I suppose some people like that. Perhaps we just didn't dine during their busiest hours. Overall awesome restaurant with quality food and brews at a great price!
Moved to the area 3 years ago and have been wanting to try Growlers. Had family visiting from out of town who are big "beer guys" and thought it would be a great spot to take them. Wasn't disappointed. Food was good, drinks were good, service was good. I'll be back.
Loved the new fish tacos -- with beer batterd cod, tantalizing hot sauce and chips, and super fantastic black bean/mango salsa. Others in the group gave "many stars" for the lamb burgers. We noted other additions and so anxious to return to try the Greuben sandwich and Growlers Club. So glad the Up In Smoke porter was still on tap!
Growler's is a true neighborhood gem. While there are several excellent breweries and brewpubs in the area it is also nice to have one native to the area. They offer several great beers, and they do not get enough credit for their menu. Rather than offering an over extensive menu they focus their energy on a tasty combination of sandwiches, breads and entrees.
Growlers is in an historic building in downtown Gaithersburg and caters to beer drinkers but even so, we greatly enjoyed our lunch. Lamb burger with feta on soft roll with lots of cole slaw was excellent, as was the chicken sandwich with large piece of grilled chicken and interesting accompaniments. Comfortable warm setting. They also have salads and some entrees - all at very reasonable prices. And delicious chicken enchilada soup too! We'll be back and maybe next time well bring some beer lovers!
Love the variety and originality of the brews, among the best based on my personal samplings across the country--don't miss the happy hour special on house drafts. Food is also outstanding, we love the Lamb Burger (ask for sweet potato fries!), the Chimmichuri (flat iron) Steak was perfect, and the Caersar salad with shaved parmesan ranks among tops in the area. Cajun Rigatoni was raved about by two of our group--and leftover of this dish made an OUTSTANDING soup for lunch the next day by just adding some chicken stock. Super attentive service. Have enjoyed the music later in the evening on previous visits.
We had an appetizer of calamari, and then the flat iron steak entree with asparagas which was perfectly cooked and delicious. The menu also has a great selection of sandwiches, appetizers, burgers and lesser fare as well. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. There was a good selection of craft beers. We'd eat here again for sure.
Growlers is a wonderful brewpub. Brewing equipment is visible behind the bar, the atmosphere and decor suit the old building and is very comfortable and pleasant. This brewpub aficionado found the place to be very cool. The food was great, the service was great, and of course so were the beers. They make a good variety of beers; my favorite was the porter, but all were excellent. Most of the beers had unique characteristics - these are not just "another brewers version" of the common styles. Go there - enjoy their creatively delicious beer flavors paired with great food - you'll be glad you did.
We've been going here for years and were devastated when the flood took out the place for eight months. You would have thought inks would be really different after taking 8 months to get it up and running, but it's mostly the same, except the staff all left due to the long time closed and so the new staff doesn't know what they are doing. The food is notably the same, good, but nothing new. We will probably keep going for the beer, but it would nice if they had some healthier options and hopefully the staff will improve over time.
Met a few friends for New Year's Eve Dinner. Awesome beer selection. We ordered from all parts of the menu and the food was excellent. The salads were fresh and generous. I liked the spicy bite in the Shrimp and Grits. The steak frites were delicious and cooked precisely as ordered. A simple menu substitution was handled without fuss or a hitch. The lamb burger was juicy and delicious and the homemade chips a hit all around the table. The service was great, attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely be back and include Growlers in our restaurant rotation more frequently.
