Grotto - Galveston - San Luis Resort
John Paul was great
Excellent service, food was fresh and cooked perfectly.
Only giving 3 stars for service because of the greeter, waitress Crisana was top notch and everyone should follow her example of excellent service. We were a walk in group of 3 being unaware that reservations were required. We were immediately denied service because no “availability” and no reservation, while there were only 5 families at the most 5 in the restaurant, pretty empty at the time we arrived. I made a quick reservation online and when we returned to the front desk, our presence was barely acknowledged by the greeter and came only minutes with an attitude of “what now?”. He then noticed we had a reservation and set us down, unhappily. We noticed his family was dining in also, totally different attitude towards them, obviously. The food was amazing, reasonably priced, and unique even though first impression left a sour taste. Will return as long as attitude of servitude is improved for better experience.
Great service & ballet
Wonderful, attentive service, gracious allowance of substitutions, excellent food.
Horrible.
Our waitress was on top of everything. From grabbing the silverware we weren’t using to the plates immediately after we finished. It was fantastic.
The service was not outstanding...had to remind the server numerous times to bring utensils for various dishes. The food was good but not outstanding. To be fair the noise level was high but a lot of celebrations going on, which was understandable and joyous!!!! I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this place but if asked about it ..I would say yes. The environment was great and the view very nice.
We had a wonderful evening. The service and food were on point. Will definitely be back.
Great food and ambiance but manager awareness on how to accommodate guest needs not that great. Servers did a good job but could have avoid service if he would have anticipated our needs beside that Grottos is one of my favorite restaurants.
It was very noisy as the space is quite limited. Our waitress took the order and did not return to fill water glasses. Our food came at best lukewarm and our request for additional red pepper went unanswered until we were almost done. I had to finally ask for our plates be removed and the maitre de for our check. Very disappointed and one of our worst dining experiences.
If you go, ask for Crisana - amazing service! Great food. It was our first time there, but it will not be our last! This place is a MUST try if you enjoy a great dining experience. The staff went above and beyond to put a smile on my child’s face.
Awesome Service from hostess waiter and even cook Serg who came by are table and said hello! Five stars without high prices!
The ambiance was very nice. However, the food left a LOT to be desired. Our pastas were both average, and we really expected more. I would give all of the food we received 2/5 stars. This is a basic italian restaurant, with 5-star restaurant pricing.
The food is outstanding! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. If George is working, you have to ask for him to be your server.
We always have a great meal and love Suzie
The service and the food were excellent. I would recommend it. However, I thought the noise level was to high. It was difficult to visit because of the noise level.
Delicious and very friendly staff
Great place...one of the best restaurants in Galveston! Good happy hour to boot!
Good food and excellent service from Brandi. I would definitely return in the future.
Great Food + Ambiance. This was a return visit to this fine small restaurant. Beautiful setting and ambiance plus an energetic San Luis vibe in the room. It has a date night feel to it. My wife and I started with Caesar salads with requested anchovies then Snapper Siciliano for me and Shrimp Penne al Limone for my wife. All excellent. Wine for her and beer for me. Their bread serving with the seasoned olive oil before the meal is great also. No desserts – we were full. Our waiter was good but not quite at the five-star level yet. We’ve eaten at most Galveston restaurants (plus the two Grottos in Houston) through the years, and this has become one of our favorites.
So yummy! Chill atmosphere. There were a few kids that should have been attended to by their parents but the noise level helped drown out their annoyance. Food was great. Wine was pretty good although they did not have Sauvignon Blanc on their menu and only one choice for Rose.
Great table. Great food!
Our waiter, Sam Daniels, was over the top excellent. The food was good and the drinks were made to order. The bar may have been understaffed, as drinks were slower to come than they should have been. Overall it was a good experience and the food was quite good. As a mother of 3 I understand sometimes you have to take your kids to supper, but as a parent with kids I always wished there was a separate area away from others so we would not disturb other diners. Now that I am the “other diner” I wtheyish so even more that there would be rooms for people with children under 14. A pretty couple with two sweet little girls day next to us, and while they were not unruly nor excessively loud, they whined a bit to their parents and were a little annoying. In general, good experience.
Calamari and Rigatoni and Meatballs were both fairly bland and needed salt to add flavor. The Grotto Salad was a good size and dressing had great flavor. The Pepperoni pizza was good as well
Camille, your supervisor is priceless! Love her, her spirit and attention to detail!
First time to Grotto and loved it. Will definitely be back.
I took three leaders of a national organization that was meeting in Galveston to dinner. It was an exceptional dinner in relation to the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. It could not have been any better.
We are locals and went there for restaurant week. Food was excellent and the service is very professional and friendly.
We always love eating at the Grotto. The food was surprisingly salty this night, which we had never noticed in the past...nothing that will deter us from eating there again.
Great place to enjoy good food and nice view of the tropical pool area. We came for Restaurant Week and the three course menu offered 2 options for each course, so we decided to order one of each and share the meal. Everything was tasty, cooked to perfection and the wine complemented the meal very well. Service was outstanding and the overall experience was a 5 star dinner. Highly recommended.
My husband and I have been celebrating our birthday's here for the past 3 years. We will continue to do so.
Amazing salmon with lump crab meat and shrimp risotto. Excellent service and atmosphere. So glad we went.
Excellent meal and great service for our group of 7
Food was great as was the service - Suzy was my server and she was outstanding!
Brandi was helpful and considerate, and the meal was wonderful. Thank you!
Great ambiance. Service was impeccable.
Food was great at reasonably priced. Definitely will go again.
One of the top 10 meals we have had in years. Great food and service.
Really good enjoyed early dinner.
