Wonderful dinning experience.food and service always consistent.highly recommend.
My friend and I really enjoyed her birthday celebration at San Luis Grotto. It was very festive and lovely and the meal was incredible. We had the Parmesan crusted snapper with green vegetables and they gave us a piece of cake to share for the birthday dessert. The bread and olive oil was amazing. It was fun that they came to the table to pour our martinis.
I took my mother here to try something new and different. We were not disappointed! I definitely recommend the Grotto for special occasions with special people.
We love Grotto and come every year in July for our anniversary. Food is great and the service is always top notch.
All in all a wonderful 35th anniversary dinner. All of the staff was exceptional in all ways. We will be back. Thanks for a terrific dining experience
Thomas, Pricilla and Wyatt are exceptional. Food is a sure thing every time.
I ATE HERE FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS WEEK...THIS TIME I DINED ALONE AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE HAPPY HOUR DRINK PRICES...HAD TWO COSMOPOLITAN MARTINI'S FOR $5 EACH! THEY WERE LARGE AND DELICIOUS...NOT TOO SWEET, JUST LIKE I REQUESTED. THEN HAD THE VEAL PICATTA...NOT ON THE MENU BUT WHEN I ASKED FOR IT THEY GLADLY OBLIGED....EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT....I WILL BE RETURNING!!
We had a business dinner and grotto on Wednesday night and everything was really outstanding the food didn't come as quickly as we would have liked but otherwise was an excellent meal and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly
Love going.. everyone is nice...
One of the best Italian restaurants in Galveston. Great food and the staff was wonderful!
Fabulous! Our favorite Italian restaurant in Galveston, best food, service and value
We enjoyed a very nice evening and dinner at the Grotto. The service was very good, the food was tasty and presented nicely and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable.
Food was excellent, service was exceptional. Wait staff needed to shave. LOL
I had the dinner for Restaurant week it was very good
Me and my friends enjoy our food and the prices were good, but it was very noisy.
Always enjoy dinner at Grottos. !!
New Year's Eve menu was fantastic .
We made a 6:45pm reservation and we were not seated until 7:45pm. That is a huge problem with hungry, ten year old triplets. We repeatedly asked about other large parties that were being seated as we were passed over. They clearly didn’t want another reservation to be late, so we had to wait for an open table.
Once seated we were offered free appetizers by the manager which was a generous offer that we were thankful for. We then waited on our waiter, who brought us water and never came back. After about 15 minutes another server came to our table as she was now assigned to our table.
The calamari was good as was the chopped salad. Bruschetta was very plain and we would not recommend it. Our kids shrimp pasta was too chewy and the shrimp was over grilled. My red snapper was not snapper, but that happens a lot at many restaurants. It was a meaty solid fish that was nicely sautéed and was enjoyable.
Finally we had to adjust our bill as our new server was not informed of the free appetizers. She found the manager and fixed us up. Overall a mediocre evening that we will not repeat.
Reserved a table for 8:00 PM on 12/29/17. The hostess sat us at 8:07 PM. The hostess took our drink/appetizer order a few minutes after we were sat. We ordered wine along with two appetizers. Our wine was served at 8:27 PM and still waiting on our appetizers. Our waiter has not taken our main order... it is 8:32 PM.
Please be mindful, the restaurant is half full. Needless to say this will be a long night..!!!!
Update: 837 PM order was taken . We ordered pizza, lasagna, and veal parmigiana. My veal I requested light on the mozzarella and parmigiana and fettuccini as my side. He asked me if I wanted extra marinara on my noodles.... WOW!
Update: main course ( partial of our meal was served) served at 8:52 pm.
We are familiar with the Grotto on Westheimer in Houston so we had expectations.
Overall the ambiance, service and hospitality met if not exceeded expectations. The menu is reduced from the original location (though they did have familiar favorites). The overall quality of the food did not meet expectations. While good ( I had the Parmesan crusted veal) it was not excellent. The spinach side was frozen chopped spinach and the fettuccini Alfredo side was dry and tasteless. My husband had a daily pasta special which was delicious.
I loved everything else and do I will return. Overall A-
While the kitchen was, evidently, (obviously?), overwhelmed and slow to send out food, the young lady waiting our table did a great job checking on us and providing updates.
The sevice of courses could have been faster but our server was extremely personable, knew the menu well, and had excellent recommendations. Plus! the bartender made a custom drink I requested and the chef went to a nearby restaurant to get my favorite desert.
The original Grotto was a great restaurant
Now that there are numerous Grotto restaurants across the city the food and service is a little uneven
Still this small restaurant in the San Luis in Galveston is very pretty and the food was good
The pizza was a little disappointing. It seemed to be an attempt at Neapolitan but the crust failed to provide the chewy char usually associated with great Neopolitan style pizza
Everything else was good and the dessert was great
Our waiter Chris was fantastic! He was personable, so knowledgeable about the menu, and just did an outstanding job. The food was fabulous, too!!!
The Grotto never fails to impress. The food is reliably great and the people are first rate.
Excellent food. Wonderful people. Everyone is so nice.
Thomas and Priscilla and Wyatt are always so helpful and personable.
The Grotto is my favorite restaurant on the island. It has superb Italian food and the service is outstanding. It’s relaxing and I’ve never had a bad meal.
The restaurant is inside the San Luis hotel. The meatball appetizer was ok. The salad I ordered was awful.
Service continues to decline. Went there for Thanksgiving brunch and back two days later for Birthday dinner. I could not get a waiter’s attention.
The food was very good. The restaurant is very very noisy and they have covered the windows because of construction outside the windows. Therefore there is no gulf view. Our waiter could have been more attentive.
Always delicious food and great service! Wish they were open for lunch!
Just great overall and the food was just astonish!
Decided on a non traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Enjoyed the martini’s & the food.
The service was great and the food was great, just so much, was glad I ordered appetizer as an entrée.....
It was extremely loud!! Also, they were understaffed. Food was very good. There was nothing to soften the noise! Gave us both headaches! We would have stayed longer, more wine and dessert but driven away by noise. Our waitress was helpful but we hardly saw her and she wanted us to order before my wine had arrived! Bread was excellent. My veal Luis was excellent but the spinach tasted like it came frozen food aisle.
Went there for pre-theatre dinner. Advised waiter that we were going to the show, so we would need to leave by 7:00ish. We arrived at 5:45, so we had plenty of time, but even with that we ran up against needing to leave to be to the show in time. The delay was in actually paying our check--we had finished dinner 15 minutes earlier, but could not get the bill to pay it. With that being said, the meal was fantastic, as always and I do highly recommend the restaurant, especially if you are staying at the hotel. It is a little out of the way to get to if you are not staying at the hotel, but worth the extra effort.
Our Waiter, Clayton, was such a delight. Very attentive without being overbearing and delicious food.
