Grotto - Galveston - San Luis Resort Ratings and Reviews
It was extremely loud!! Also, they were understaffed. Food was very good. There was nothing to soften the noise! Gave us both headaches! We would have stayed longer, more wine and dessert but driven away by noise. Our waitress was helpful but we hardly saw her and she wanted us to order before my wine had arrived! Bread was excellent. My veal Luis was excellent but the spinach tasted like it came frozen food aisle.
Went there for pre-theatre dinner. Advised waiter that we were going to the show, so we would need to leave by 7:00ish. We arrived at 5:45, so we had plenty of time, but even with that we ran up against needing to leave to be to the show in time. The delay was in actually paying our check--we had finished dinner 15 minutes earlier, but could not get the bill to pay it. With that being said, the meal was fantastic, as always and I do highly recommend the restaurant, especially if you are staying at the hotel. It is a little out of the way to get to if you are not staying at the hotel, but worth the extra effort.
We have become regulars at the Grotto. Food is always fresh and waitstaff have become friends that always treat us special with great service. When we are in the mood for pizza there is only place for us and that's the Grotto. And the strawberry cake can't say enough good things about the cake! We always look forward to our return.
This is the second time we ate at Grotto. Their staff does not disappoint. Food was great particularly the seasonal entree, Pleasure Pier. Wyatt, our waiter was attentive and patiently explained to us some entrees. I highly recommend to visit this restaurant whenever you are in Galveston.
We were staying at Hotel and based on last night in, we decided to eat within Hotel. We made reservations and went down for early dinner. Absolutely the worst table right by Bar and Kitchen area. Recommend more preferential sitting for guests of Resort. Seating negativly impacted a 5 Star experience.
Very good pasta selections, our favorite with shrimp and crab is not on the Houston Grotto menu. Reasonable priced wine and good service. Would have given higher rating but the caesar salad had to much dressing and the house salad dressing was a bit strong. Other than that recommend you stop by next time in Galveston.
We were running a few minutes late for our reservation and we were staying there in the resort so I tried calling several times and their phone line was constantly busy. They did call my cell phone and I answered and told them we would be down in about 15 mins. We arrived with our party of 4 and were seated at a huge table for 10 nearest the entrance and hostess station. We asked if we could be seated at a smaller table in the back--there were a few 4 tops vacant but dirty. We were told by the very unfriendly hostess that they were for other parties. So we took the first table only to sit there for several minutes before anyone ever came over to bring menus or water so we got up and left. We just weren't satisfied with the service or atmosphere. We walked next door to the Steakhouse and were seated immediately at a cozy table for 4 and had an amazing server so all was good. Probably won't go back to Grotto again.
Too dark to read menu. Children were running in and out in swim suits to and from the pool while others were trying to have a nice meal.
I ordered Italian Wedding Soup and it was terrible! The CHICKEN meatballs were nasty and no one cared. The waitstaff lost my Landrys Select card never to be found. Terrible experience. No compensation offered. The dessert was good. The manager is sending me another card.
I'm a Landry's Select Club Member and eat at a Landry's restaurant at least once a week in Houston. I was staying with 3 of my kids at the San Luis. We had a 6:45 dinner reservation. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived and both booths in the restaurant were vacant. I asked if we could be seated at a booth. The young teenaged hostess curtly informed me that the booths were reserved for "parties of five". I asked to speak to a manager. A slightly older but still very young woman told me that the booths were reserved for other parties. Both booths sat empty until a party of TWO gentlemen arrived and were seated there. As we were LEAVING, a party of five showed up and were seated at the other booth. They were 5 adults, crammed in and would have done better at one of the round tops. I was too aggravated to argue. It's much easier to eat with the kiddos in a booth. I suppose it's harder to find decent staff in Galveston. That's the only reason that I can come up with for being told that the restaurant couldn't accommodate what should have been a simple request.
