Grotto - Galveston - San Luis Resort
Awesome restaurant with great food and atmosphere!
Great service Food was awesome
Food was fabulous and great service. Very good wine selection.
There are no scallops BETTER than the scallops at Grotto. Also, it’s always nice to be in the company of Brandi and Christian. The service is great.
Service was flawed from beginning to end. It truly seemed as if no one was leading the dining room staff. From greeter to waiter to server plenty of misses occurred. Menu seemed complete but all of our dishes disappointed somewhat. Better options exist offsite the hotel.
Good food and service
Great meal and service.
Always have a very good experience with food and drink. The wait staff and additional staff are very attentive and get things done quickly. Will return frequently. Thank you for the rewarding dining experience.
I took my friend for a birthday dinner and we had an amazing time! Between the two of us we had two toddlers and an older child and felt very welcomed. The manager on duty, Christian was very attentive and kind, the French hostees was also very warm and welcoming, they both picked a few toys up the kids had dropped around the table. Our server (I forgot his name) took good care of us and each dish was amazing! We are already talking about our next dinner there.
Favorite happy Hour on the island...
The food was bland, at best. The marinara sauce tasted like it came out of the can, the cioppino was full of seafood but unremarkable, the shredded crabmeat in the pasta shells was just plain bad, and the spumoni was the American version with none of the texture of the real thing. With all that said, the service was impeccable.
Have eaten at other Grotto locations, this 1 is poor compared to the others. Was generous with my review because other locations are outstanding.
We often dine at this location but the service is getting progressively worse each time. 30 minutes to get our drinks and an hour and a half to get our meal. Our server was unapologetic and at one point a bit argumentative. The manager informed us on the way out that the kitchen covers both the restaurant and pool areas now and has become a constraint. They need to fix this quickly as I am not sure I am willing to give this location another chance.
Great food, it’s a very nice restaurant to go to in the San Luis if you’re staying there and not looking for a long wait or go off property. I’ll definitely be back!
My sister and I finally found the Grotto after a little searching and asking. It’s buried in the bowels of the San Luis Resort in Galveston. Once there, we were seated right away and had a wonderful waiter who was very polite, prompt, and knowledgeable. The food was very good—not Michelin three-star good, but good. We enjoyed a soft-shell crab appetizer, which we liked a lot. My sister had rigatoni with meatballs; I, the Margarita pizza. Both dishes were good, but I found my pizza a little too salty. As I have had this pizza at the Grotto before and loved it, I was a little disappointed. But it might have been a one-off situation as the pizza is as I normally like it—thin and sufficiently basilly enough. My sister had Markers Mark manhattans and I had the Hess chardonnay. I selected poorly and can’t recommend that wine based on my experience. We both had dessert and they were great. I don’t think they make a bad dessert. All in all a nice evening.
Always visit when I’m in Galveston. My favorite Grotto!!
Excellent dinner with business friends
Always Great Food & service!! One of our favorite spots in Galveston.
Great Cocktails too!!
Our server Barton was so helpful with everything, and we enjoyed saying hello to Camille. The scallop dish is consistently excellent, and we always have such a great time at Grotto. Thanks again to the chef and to the staff.
Grotto, always steps up. We love the food, drinks and desserts. Our service Saturday night was outstanding.
Love this place! Great food and drinks every time and very family friendly!
Food was excellent and service was great. Will definitely be going back!
Best Happy Hour on the Island and best Bartender (Susie)...
Everyone is every nice and make you feel at home...
From start to finish, it was wonderful! Thanks for making our anniversary SO special!
Our server Sam was great. Everything came out in a timely manner, with quick and courteous service. The appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, and desserts were spectacular! I can't wait to go back.
Overall it was great, but the service was pretty slow and we let the waiter and manager know about the mozzarella and they didn’t offer to make it right. The cheese was like rubber and were told they would let the chef know. The bread is amazing! I would go back. I just think for a high end place it didn’t meet my service expectations nor did the appetizer.
‘Visual’ of pool patrons/attire was disgusting; a fly in my martini ruined all;
The service has gone downhill. Excessive waiting time for food and drinks the past three times we’ve been. Really like the food but the staff seems to treat this as place that most people won’t be back to (as it’s in a resort) and they aren’t overly concerned with providing any level of service.
Beautiful dinner. Food was amazing. Service was outstanding.
I have visited other Grotto locations and have always been pleased with my experience. This time was no different. The service was lovely, as was our meal. Between the four of us, I think my mom was most pleased with her dish - snapper romano. All in all, we will be back to either this Grotto location or one of the others, I'm sure.
Always great food and Exceptional Service!! From the appetizers to entree's and dessert all 5 Star!!
Good Italian food in Galveston
Brandi and Christian always make sure we’re comfortable. The food is the best.
Amazing food and service! I loved everything about it!
John Paul was great
Everything was top of the line, from the moment the car valet greeted us. The food was great as always, and the wine list gave us plenty of options. I had the Veal Luis, and it was perfect. The coconut cream pie was a great way to end the evening.
The food at Grotto was a "10" and our waitress Brandy was excellent we left her a big tip, it was a great experience, it's worth bypassing the Houston location and driving all the way to Galveston for the ambiance. The San Luis is still the flagship hotel in Galveston
Excellent service, food was fresh and cooked perfectly.
Only giving 3 stars for service because of the greeter, waitress Crisana was top notch and everyone should follow her example of excellent service. We were a walk in group of 3 being unaware that reservations were required. We were immediately denied service because no “availability” and no reservation, while there were only 5 families at the most 5 in the restaurant, pretty empty at the time we arrived. I made a quick reservation online and when we returned to the front desk, our presence was barely acknowledged by the greeter and came only minutes with an attitude of “what now?”. He then noticed we had a reservation and set us down, unhappily. We noticed his family was dining in also, totally different attitude towards them, obviously. The food was amazing, reasonably priced, and unique even though first impression left a sour taste. Will return as long as attitude of servitude is improved for better experience.
