The food was amazing! And all the service workers were nice and attentive.
It was an average experience. Pizza was maybe below average? Could be better… my boyfriend got the panini’s with tomato soup shooters? He said that was okay? I feel like I paid more for the name and the ambiance
Do not use the valet in front of the Grotto. Operated by sovereign services. It’s a complete rip off & will over charge you if your not paying attention.
So grateful that Grotto is open for lunch. The PANINI SHOOTERS and SKEWERS were wonderful.
The food was pretty good. The Grouper was excellent. The Chicken dish was a little tough but the flavor was really good. Our server seemed distracted (we had to find someone else to bring us water and when he disappeared for an extended time a different person came to take our order - then he showed up to complete the order). and described the grouper as "fried" so I did not get it - although my wife did. It was actually pan sauteed and excellent.
The restaurant is an awkward space - it is too narrow for three rows of tables - making it very difficult to walk through and too wide for 2 rows. We both sat on the bench to the side but customers who had more guests at their table and so had people sitting in the "aisle" seemed to be frequently uncomfortable. I would make sure that if you choose this restaurant (and the food itself was good) that you avoid sitting in the tightest spots.
Made a reservation for my birthday dinner. We were greeted by a friendly hostess however she seated us right next to a very lively party of 20 we asked to be seated at a booth but were told those had to be requested and were reserved. I was a bit disappointed and We did ask for a quieter table and we’re accommodated to the other side of the restaurant nice window table.
I have to say the food was excellent and our waitress was great. I know some places do special extras like a dessert for a birthday this one does not.
I’d say this is a fun place for a casual night out.
No complaints about the food or service. I want the full menu to come back.
Food was delicious, atmosphere great, ordered the gluten free pasta Straw and Hay dinner and it was Ahhhhmazing! Best Alfredo I’ve ever had.
Delicious food and perfect combination between ambiance and low noise level
Food is delicious and flavorful I love. I had the seafood pasta, don't know the exact name for it lol but it was bomb. Just wished it was a bigger portion for what it was.
Everything was amazing. Would recommend for any occasion
Good food , good service
Nice atmosphere with friendly, capable waitstaff. Food and drink were great! Recommend highly. Parking in nearly garage validated.
We ate on the patio had a great server and the food was amazing!
This was a wonderful visit for our first real meal in Houston! Diverse enough menu to give options to varied diets and everything was delicious!
Our waitress was so sweet and we would absolutely return again.
We had reservations for 13 and everyone ordered different dishes. No one finished their meals and most everyone comment on the salt level. It was very high.
I ordered the salmon and I could not finish it. The side dishes were delicious, but had an off-putting appearance due to the color.
Waiter had to be flagged down everytime we needed to order or someone joined us, but he was waiting a considerable amount of tables for a single server. *I get employee shortage and that's why I did not rate service lower.
That's a first and last for us.
I’d give the ambiance 6 stars if I could.
Chowder and burgers were great !
The ambience was excellent, and the service was also excellent. The small flat breads with tomato sauce (given at the beginning of the meal) were a little cold, but not too bad. The calamari small plate was interesting, but a bit diluted with some fried vegetables. Would have liked more calamari… The Caesar salad was decent, but nothing to write home about. The two pasta dishes we got were outstanding! That is where the meal really shined. If I return, I would go straight to cocktails and pasta, and I do intend to return!
Great place for having food drink and being with the love of your life. Great service and food is great.
Great food. We loved the small plates. Service was excellent. Our favorite part of the meal was the wedding cake. Perfect portion for two.
Great pizza and atmosphere!
Always do Grotto when we are downtown for an event. A Favorite
The food was delicious, and the service was great! I can't wait to go back!
Artisan charcuterie board was very good. Caesar’s Salad was pretty good but not great. Very good drinks.
Good food, attentive service, very loud but they turned the music down when we asked
This restaurant was our favorite part about Houston! Our waitress was incredibly and so kind, and the food was amazing! Will definitely be coming back.
Food was outstanding. A little noisy for me. Staff were helpful and courteous. I highly recommend this place. Actually I did.
Food, Service, Atmosphere so fun before the game!!
Loud! Had to wait for waiter, delays for pizza. Ordered two small appetizers, cost $40. Taste was good though, value was poor!
Just had apps but the bruschetta was amazing. Atmosphere was very good, too.
The food and service were wonderful as always, and only a short walk to the World Series game!
Delicious food. Meatball appetizer, pepperoni pizza, chopped salad were all excellent. Chocolate cake was best that I have had.
Our server Whitney was excellent! Very responsive and continually made sure we were happy with everything
Food & drinks were fine. Ordered pasta & no bread served. Nothing extra to make you feel special.
This was my second time coming to Grotto-Downtown and I did not have a good experience, unlike my first time coming. The server seemed rushed and rarely checked on me. I wanted to enjoy more wine but due to the service I left. Customer service is very important. I was in anticipation of the quiet evening enjoying great wine and food. The ambiance was superb and intimate however the service over shadowed the experience for me. Highly unlikely to come back in near future.
Not what I expected, and can’t compare to the Grotto at Westheimer and 610. Very limited menu downtown, although what was served was good. Tables are packed together and the servers are harried. We waited to be seated until 6:20 for a 5:45 reservation.
My main complaint is that it really shouldn’t be called “Grotto” because it is nothing like the other one. It is really false advertising for them to both have the same name.
We had a reservation to eat before a concert. They could not seat us.had to sit and eat at bar with an over worked bartender trying to take care of us.
We went to this restaurant before a concert at the Toyota Center in Houston. My food came out semi warm. My husband had Spaghetti and a meatball and his was hot. We wanted parmesan cheese and had to track someone down to get the Parmesan Cheese. It was very loud in the restaurant and we had a hard time hearing each other. Do not think I would visit this restaurant in the future.
The food was delicious, the staff was quick and attentive
We dined before the James Taylor concert. Our server, a delightful young lady, was terrific and helpful. We ordered a selection of small plates and they all were delicious. The meatballs were presented in small glass jars, both clever and helpful. The cavatelli was creamy and tasty, the tenderloin skewers tender and juicy and the bruschetta was unique in its use of ricotta instead of mozzarella. All in all a dining delight.
