Little Italy classic spot. Wonderful food and great ambience. Homemade pasta has been the specialty here for over 100 years. A real treat.
The Lobster Fra Diavelo was out of this world!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite restaurant in little Italy. Service excellent and food delicious
We were in town for a school theater trip. The food was great and reasonably priced. Nice local meal :)
Everytime we visit New York city we go to Little Italy and eat at Grotto Azzura, fantastic food and waiter very attentive.
The wait staff was very attentive. The food was good and we were seated right on time. What more could you ask for ? I would go back again and again.
Food was delicious! We had eggplant parmesan which was so light and melted in your mouth. We also tried the pizzas which were out of this world! Small eating area but cozy! Would recommend to everyone!
My boyfriend and I were celebrating Valentines Day a week late bc we work so much. When we arrived we were sat in a cozy corner that was lit by candlelight. Unfortunately, a large group was sat before us in the middle of the dining room who were extremely loud, crude and drunk. I mentioned this to the matradee and our date night was moved in another quiet room. The food & wine were outstanding and the service was attentive and kind.
Our server even took me & my boyfriend downstairs to see where Frank Sinatra and other celebs have been served in the past. Overall, our experience was lovely. I highly recommend Grotta Azzura. I will definitely be back!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Terrible! we didn't even eat here because even though we had a confirmed 10 pm reservation, their website said they closed at 11 and we arrived at 950, we were rudely told they were closed.
Food was below average. Went here for restaurant week. Had the cheese tortellini as an appetizer, chicken for entree and cannoli for dessert. Wouldn’t recommend any of these dishes. Service however was good - friendly and prompt.
We started with stuffed mushrooms $12. They came covered in a marinara sauce. While they were good I think the marinara sauce covered the taste of the mushrooms and would not order again. The wife had Penne Alla Vodka $16. Yummy! I had Egglpant Parmagiana $16. Yummy. Bread and butter and olive oil also were provided. Beers were $7. The main disappointment was that they automatically added 20% gratuity. I thought the gratuity was up to the customer?
Atmosphere and music were killer. Perfect for Little Italy. Menu was great with lots of solid selections. The chicken marsala was a "10." The Caesar salad I would skip--lots of white lettuce parts and a bland dressing. Pizza looked like it was on pre-made crusts, which was disappointing, but it was quite good. Little Italy is pretty touristy these as far as food goes, this is the best of the bunch. BIG drinks, and good wine prices. I would go back.
Would go back. Meatballs tasted like cloves. That was strange. Everything else was great! I asked for a small chocolate cake for two for birthday celebration. It was perfect!!
Excellent food and service! They brought out everything I asked for promptly. Very cozy, and very authentic Italian!
Came here for Restaurant Week and it was delightful. Arrived early so we went to the bar first and had a delicious brew from a brewery in Illinois, then were sat in the dinning room for our reservation. Our server was very attentive, the variety of foods on the menu were great (LOVED the pumpkin ravioli), and the location is cute and convenient. Overall a great spot for a night out.
Some of the food was very good (stuffed mushrooms and minestrone soup) but the salad was soaked in vinegar and the vegetable pasta we ordered was just mediocre and very garlicky. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be returning.
They took us right in and sat us at a great table for 6. The service was fast and the wait staff were very attentive. The was large portions and tasted awesome! They brought our orders out in a timely fashion and cleared the table just as quickly. We never got the feeling of being rushed and enjoyed our time as a family get together.
Great food, all three of us enjoyed our apps/main course and dessert. Price was reasonable also.
This was everything we expected. Old world Italian but upscale. They take you downstairs to a cave that has been transformed into an amazing cool dining area. The food was top notch.
Thoroughly enjoyed Grotta Azzurra. We arrived significantly early for our reservation and humbly asked if the restaurant could accommodate us, and they happily did so. Our group of 7 shared 3 full size pasta dishes for starters - the gnocchi, penne with vodka sauce, and ravioli, and enjoyed each one. Mains were standard fare for an Italian restaurant, but the Pork Braciole was particularly good - if anything, my only criticism was that the portion size was too large - made a good dish unnecessarily heavy. Service was very good, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere.
Christmas Eve in New York would not be complete without a visit to The Grotto. Good food, great service, complimentary wine... They even made it snow!
Delicious! Daily lunch specials for $9.99 and $16.95. We definitely recommend!!
Very nice experience. Great service.
Love this place- the pesto gnocchi- amazing! I won’t go anywhere else for gnocchi
Superb food - if you've never had homemade pasta before, it's remarkable! Great atmosphere and kind, knowledgeable service! You can't miss here!!
A little bit too loud and crowded. Food was very good but came way too fast. Wasn’t able to enjoy one course fully without next coming quickly.
For sophistication of restaurant goers now quality not better than local Italian restaurant in any town. Has to be better in Little Italy if you want that experience.
First off- it was about 110 degrees inside. We asked them to turn the fans on and they didn’t work. The lights flickered on and off the whole time and when we asked why the sever told us they had been doing that all day. Not to mention the server didn’t come over for about 15 minutes. She didn’t bring enough water for the whole table. The food was mediocre. The bread was raw in the middle. The sangria was disgusting and sugary. I brought my family here from out of town because I loved it last time. I was so embarrassed. Horrible service, not once did she ask how our meals were. Everything was rushed and thrown at us. The food was room temperature and the meat bracciole was over cooked and hard. Needless to say, we won’t be going back.
Took my dad for a nostalgic dinner (he used to go often over 30 years ago) and he was happy it was still good. Rice balls, potato croquettes were great appetizers and not greasy and the lasagna and Bolognese sauce amazing and authentic. The eggplant parmesan had a great char grilled flavor to it that set it apart from the typical preparation.
A Little Italy classic! The portions were generous and the food was delicious as ever!
Also, very attentive waiters! Bravo!
The food was good and good service also , the ambiance of a resto de quartier :)
Amazing History in this restaurant. Loved the old photos downstairs
Solid Italian food in Little Italy. Not my favorite in that neighborhood but good value for a decent meal. Service was very slow and unattentive. The chicken Marsala was good. My son and husband had the spaghetti bolognese which they said was very good.
It was a terrible choice to go here since there are so many good restaurants in little Italy.
food was not good at all, the place if a total tourist trap based on how many people were showing their tour bus tickets for meal.
Place was busy but i had a reservation so they took me right away. Tasted like homemade food. Nice evening.
Good food, great service, convenient with a great location on Mulberry Street. Definitely in a more quiet area, which made for a more relaxed atmosphere.
We dined for lunch during New York Restaurant Week. The food was amazing! Large delicious portions, great service! I would highly recommend Grotto Azzurra to friends and family.
Great outdoor dining in Little Italy. Loved the gnocchi Bolognese (very light) and live the idea that they make their own pasta.
I have been dining at grota azzura for years and I go there every time I go to Little Italy. It is affordable and the food is excellent. I have been to expensive restaurants such as Becco and Babbo and they are not as great as Grotta Azzura. I will definitely recommend it!
