Grinder restaurant is located on Notre-Dame street, in the heart of Griffintown. This neighborhood in the southwest of Montreal is dynamic and promising; residential and commercial projects are already underway.
The original decor screams Zébulon Perron (Furco, Buvette à Simone, Philemon). He created a comfortable and warm restaurant, kitchen and raw bar. Grinder characterizes itself by vintage and modern elements such as glass and metal.
On the menu, raw & cooked items: tartares, tatakis, ceviches, carpaccios, etc. Also on the menu, steaks and grilled or braised meats, all to be shared. Grinder also offers a variety of fish and seafood, served cooked or raw as well. More than a simple steakhouse, all food lovers will find something to their liking among our selection of fresh products.
100% of their wine list consists of privately imported wines, always changing with the seasons, and of course focusing on wines produced while respecting nature.

Nous avons été charmé par l'emplacement, le service à la clientèle très amicale et surtout par les employé(e)s plus beaux et belles les uns et les autres. Restaurant très branché. Cuisine authentique et créative mais surtout EXCELLENTE, GOÛTEUSE ET DÉLICIEUSE (tartares fabuleux, belles pièces de boeufs, salades impressionnantes, desserts divins et choix de digestifs à couper le souffle). La carte des vins est impressionnante et il y en a de tous les prix. Il y a aussi un choix impressionnant de vin au verre.
Nous y retournons dans une semaine car l'expérience vécue nous a coupé le soffle.

We have a wonderful night but had some little "technical problem". They fried our scallop when it suppose to be serve cold but its still good. We just expect that the waiter tell us before we ask him. We choose a bottle that they didn't have it anymore and the waiter 2nd choice on the bottle was pretty good. They mess up with our side dish by giving us something that we didnt order but again it was still good. Overall i give 4star because of the waiter the service ambiance and the food.
Grinder has above average food, a lively vibe and would be great for a get together or special event with friends. It was too loud/busy and lacked intimacy for a date. Oddly the service was too good for us - food arrived so quickly that we had 3 courses and were out in under 1.5 hours... a whirlwind!
The only disappointing part I would say, would be the fact that there was no acknowledgement that we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. When reserving on open table, they ask about “an occasion”, so I would figure that the restaurant would try to do a little something to celebrate this. Certainly not a deal breaker as I would certainly go back, but just a little note for the establishment who may want to consider this in the future- :)
Amazing food, the quality of the meat is impeccable and the short ribs with the mushroom side were absolutely perfect. The service was outstanding, we loved that you get to pick your steak sauce from 8 unique options, and the server went the extra mile. Only feedback would be that the two person tables are fairly close together so our conversation competed with the people next to us. Will be dreaming about this food until the next time I go! If you're a fan of steak you must go here.
Je suis allé avec ma femme pour une occasion spéciale, la serveuse nous a installé au fond du restaurant devant une porte de garage sans nous donné le menu ni demande ce qu'on voulait boire... l'entré une salade méditerranéenne est tellement banale qu'à la maison je suis capable de faire nettement mieux tomate cerise coupe avec des olives et feta... le plat steak new york brulé cramé tellement brûlé on dirai de la gomme et très gras. Enfin le fondant au dessert grossier avec des amandes cru dessus...Je trouve que le prix ne reflète pas la qualité des plats servis c'est trop chère par rapport à ce qu'on a mangé je ne le recommande pas...
First time I've been enthused enough to write a restaurant review. Traveling in Montreal with my teen daughters and wanted something outside Old Montreal and downtown. Saw the good reviews this place had and decided to give it a try. Very, very pleased we did - best way to describe it is as a raw bar steakhouse. Made a last-minute reservation and got seated promptly at 7 p.m. (tried a couple of other places beforehand and earliest times available were 9 and 9:30 p.m.). Room is divided by a bar and hostess sat us - at our request - away from the main dining room (which was packed with folks having a great time). That made it a cinch to have easy conversation. Food was outstanding - we had all two tartars (steak and salmon) as appetizers and all of us loved it, even the girls. For dinner, one daughter had the tuna tartar, one the burger, and we had the Chateaubriand for two. The tuna tartar was fully on par with the other two. Burger disappeared in a flash. As for the steak, although it seemed a bit pricey, it was delicious, as were the sides. Interesting oddity were all the "side sauces" served with the steak.
I get the pepper sauce and even the BBQ sauce but, as for the hummus and whatever the green stuff was, I never saw that coming. Beyond the food, the wait staff was great. I couldn't decide on a red, so the waitress gave me a sample of three to pick from (in the end, none of the three reds were very good, but the Chablis (white) we had before the steak was spot on). Would recommend this place all day long.
I just found the service off kilter. We would order from one person and have another ask us again. We never knew who our rea waiter waitress was.
One weird moment also service related. The waiter is placing our wine glasses. My hand is clearly on the table and he nudges it to place the glass. Sorry dude you work around me! Lol talk about odd.
I'm never disappointed in the food, the one time I had a problem with something it was quickly replaced with an apology. I've eaten there 20 times this year and it's always a pleasure. The free valet parking is a serious plus.
The only small negative is that it can get noisy at dinner.
it is good and expensive which is I guess better than expensive and poor quality. I need to check out the butchers shop and do a third visit to decide. The place itself is quite pleasant. Booked on open table and they mustve had a dozen or more tables free when I showed up 30 mins early at beginning of week, so I was hanging about for nothing.
Basically the service spoiled our experience at this very nice looking restaurant. The food was good, not more not less. But it took an hour before we had our main course. 30 minutes before we had a glass of wine. Very poor and inattentive waiting staff. This affected us in a negative way and I would not recommend this place. Especially if you are out for a lunch meal and need to be back at work on time.
