There were many staff and next to no customers. The staff that were there exhibited absolutely no interest in servicing us. After we ordered our wine and bread, we waited for 15 minutes with nothing arriving. I waved down a waiter, and instead of offering to help us, he asked who our original waiter was, then went back to his rest station. DISGUSTING SERVICE - it seemed like all of the wait staff could hardly wait for their shifts to be over so they could leave. Something very wrong is going on at this restaurant.
There was nothing outstanding about the food. I was edible but expensive.
Great experience. Service team really knew their stuff!
I would recommend due to proximity to the NAC. However, food needs review. Decor needs work. Example. I understand the bare tables for lunch perhaps but simple white tablecloths would create an upscale atmosphere.
Food was inconsistent. Chowder was excellent, bocconcini salad was blah. Steaks were ok, potatoes were very blah and over cooked.
We went for Sunday lunch and the restaurant was deserted. It took 45 minutes for the food to come; the fish and chips were not crisp. The server failed to bring extra chips and the second beer. However it was very quiet and we were able to have a great conversation with our table mates. I will not be dining there again.
The restaurant was nice and quiet - so we could hear ourselves talk. Not very busy on the Saturday, though apparently it had been very busy the night before (perhaps due to the live jazz, which we though would likely make it too noisy.
The service was very good - prompt and attentive but not overly so.
Our appetizer was very good. Pub chips that for once weren't overly greasy. The cheesecake was also good.
My husband's cocktail was a bit watery, he said. He did enjoy his filet mignon, though. I had the gnocchi and found it overly oily - I felt a little sick later that night. Also, the gnocchi itself was odd. In the shape of Tater Tots and deep fried, which added to the greasiness. It was also overly salty, which is saying something, as I usually find I have to add salt to most dishes I get. I didn't notice at first, but it seemed to build as the meal went on, when it was too late to send it back. The crispy onion garnish was good, though.
We wanted to try somewhere new, where we'd have a chance of hearing ourselves and Grill 41 certainly provided that, but the actual meal fell down in places.
Our waitress was timely, courteous and helpful. However, food service was slow considering the restaurant was nowhere near capacity. The ambiance was as expected, moderate noise level which made conversing at our table easy. Food was good; value was about what was expected. Good spot for a lunch business meeting.
Food was wonderful and service was excellent. We will be back.
Special of the day was great!
We had breakfast and ordered from the menu. The food was expensive and bland. Overall, the presentation of the food was mediocre.
J’ai attendu 1h30 avant d’être servi sans pain sans rien sans personnes pour s’occuper de nous car nous étions 6 personnes. Très décevant . Je ne recommanderais à personne d’aller à ce restaurant .
Had a business luncheon today with clients. Everything was excellent and food was amazing thank you!
Fillet Steak (7oz) was phenomenal, well seasoned, the live music was a nice additional feature, sides were fantastic, view of Ottawa was great - very picturesque gardens and parks just outside. Highly recommend this place.
Mother’s Day Brunch! We had a family get together and everyone was so happy with the food, service and selection! Awesome thanks!
Great brunch for Mother's day. Great variety of food. Breakfast items, luch/dinner items, dessert & more. We will be back.
Thanks, was a very nice first experience. Thanks also for a certain choice of gluten free food. But could you add a few gluten free deserts not just fruits but a few pastries?
The Breakfast Buffet was good but a bit pricey for what you get.
I really enjoyed my dinner at Grill 41. The servers were very friendly and made the experience memorable. I was told about the feature dinner item which was lobster Mac n cheese and since the server had not tried it to offer an honest recommendation, he brought me out a little sample to try! I chose that over the risotto as it was delicious and not on the regular menu....! but I will certainly be back to try the risotto very soon! It was a busy evening with many of us there to enjoy the Plant Nite event but all of the servers were quick to help, bring dinner out and also allowed us to pay our bill after the event was over so that we could add additional drink items to our final bill. It was my first visit to Grill 41 but I will be coming again in the near future for sure!
The service was amazing! Due to unseen events, most of our table was running late so our original brunch reservation turned into a late lunch. The staff was so understanding and patient. They even allowed us to move our table to the patio once everyone arrived. Truly wonderful service and amazing food! I will definitely be coming again! Thank you :)
I was very surprise of the quality of this restaurant for a nice hotel like Lord Elgin. this restaurant is very low quality and very expensive, service was not good and plate very small with no fancy at all I will not recommend this restaurant. Also it was very loud and waiters were almost running around like children and not very pleasant.
For is very well done and taste amazing. If you can ask for Melany A to be your server do so. She is so friendly and does an outstanding job.
I would recommend this resteraunt. The selection of food is good and is prepared to perfection. Exceptional service, fast, friendly and very efficient. Atmosphere is very good for a place of this type and you can have a conversation without having to raise your voice. Definitely worth visiting.
Good food service. Food portions too much, perhaps half orders should be made available.
We reserved at Grill 41 and for some reason could not get 6 PM and was forced to 5:45 PM. Not a big deal but the place had 5 or 6 tables and was not busier than that.
It started out well, we order an appetizer of a Vegetable Spring roll, the filling and sauce were very good, the wrap seemed a little thicker than I am used to.
My wife order shrimp and scallop skewer that looked nice but was over cooked.
I ordered the blackened Cajun salmon. The coating on the salmon was rock hard and the fish was overly dry. It actually seemed like it was cooked earlier and kept in a warming oven drying out for an extended period, truly terrible and not what I would suspect for the price nor the place.
The service overall I would rate as well below par, less than one star just based on the end of the meal. Once we were finished the plates sat for 10 minutes or so before the waitress arrived to clear them. She asked if we would like desert and I asked to see a desert menu. She left and came back a minute later and said there are no desert menus and read from a list. I thanked her and said not right now but when we finish our drinks. She then came back 1 minute later and tried to hand me the bill, I told her I would like a coffee after my drink and may have desert as well. She took the bill and went away.
This is when things got worse. We sat there talking and finishing our drinks and after 5 minutes were ready to order coffee and desert, we never got the chance. We sat there for endless minutes, 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes (this is not an exaggeration). I was looking to get her attention but she spend the entire time staring at her mobile phone, presumably texting or something and it was not possible to get any further service. In fact we only go her attention for the bill when the couple beside us got fed up with waiting and flagged someone down the all the servers scurried to tables. Very poor experience and the worst service I have received in a very long time.
Comments in no particular order. What is Grill 41? Is it a Sports Bar, a diner? I suggest a delineation from the bar/sports on TV routine from the romantic destination experience. A sports bar fly is a sports bar fly. Great location for NAC patrons, food much better than all other Elgin Street Restaurants. A little hard to understand our pleasant waiter. I suggest you move the supply cupboard out of the dining area to avoid unnecessary traffic for customers. Remove the single door entrance off Elgin, it is cold charmless, unwelcoming and not as classy as it should be for the Lord Elgin. I was disappointed that there was no chocolate option for dessert. The cheesecake did not seem fresh although the small size Brule was excellent. Have a look at any Baton Rouge, the ambiance - the lighting perhaps, would improve Grill 41. Where was I supposed to hang up my coat?
The food is always great. Terrific place to eat before the NAC.
We often have lunch at Grill 41 before our Sunday NAC performance. The service is attentive and timely. We had the vegetarian spring rolls. They were hot and crisp on the outside although not as packed full of veggies as I might have liked. Nonetheless, they were tasty and the chocolate cheesecake for dessert was quite good.
Went in on a Sunday for brunch buffet which didn’t appear to exist. A la crate menu was varied but decent. Place was loud and very unclean. Server was too busy to be attentive.
We love eating at Grill 41. The food and service was wonderful. Plus the new white wine we tried recommended by our server was lovely. We look forward to our next visit with you later in the month.
The evening was memorable with friends and food. However, the service was poor. The restaurant did accommodate having a larger table when guest starting arriving. However, appetizers and my guests main course took 35 minutes with multiple questions from our hostess.
My group and I felt that they did not care to look around our table. Even thought there wasn’t many guest at the restaurant. We ate, paid and left. I even asked my hostess about my birthday cake or something. Sadly, she said she wasn’t made aware with my group. We left.
The next day I called the Manger Steve and told him about my reservation and the lack of service. He was apologetic and provided me with a complimentary appetizer, which I took him up on! The Friday evening which I made reservations for was a complete 360!
The hostess was very warm and apologetic and provided my complimentary birthday creme brûlée and app on the house.
It shows that the restaurant is willing to right their wrong and do there best to provide better service. It also helps that there was jazz night that Friday evening!
For the flag ship restaurant at a venerable hotel, you should be able to expect a higher degree of quality of both food and presentation, both of which were noticeably absent. It was extremely disappointing and pretentiously priced for how dismal it was. I would never recommend this restaurant unless there was a major commitment to change.
Great food and the decor has just been updated and looks good inside. Most of our party had steak of one kind or another and was really good.
This is a restaurant that has an interesting menu that is regularly tweaked, allowing for new additions throughout the year, while maintaining the old standby. The layout is pleasant and the noise level remarkably subdued, even when it is mostly full. The food is excellent and served quickly. The wine list, while not extensive, allows pairings for all dishes and includes Ontario wines, which is a nice touch. I go there several times each year and am never disappointed.
Server not very engaging or personable and disappeared for long period but food was tasty.
Great service and food. Quiet and many people making sure the service is properly provided
This was the most disappointing reservation I have ever made. I booked my dinner reservation based on the recommendations/reviews off of google, which usually serve me well, and I was in Ottawa for New Years. This was myself and my boyfriends first time to Ottawa and had the intention of having a lovely dinner for New Years Eve. We arrived and were seated, to which we waited 10 mins. before we were finally acknowledge by a wait staff member. He then called over another waiter who was standing at the bar/counter looking less than interested in his job, and when he came over it was an extremely awkward engagement. He knew nothing about the pre-set menu and truthfully, he behaved as if he didn't even work there. We were unaware that there was a pre-set menu that night, which is fine, but the option on it were less than exciting. There was only one protein option and the restaurant claims to be a steak house. The only entree option wasn't even steak! When we asked if we could order from the regular menu, the one in which I had saw online, we were handed the room service menu from the hotel and told these were my options. I was so incredibly disappointed and disgusted with how we were regarded, we simply got up and left. This restaurant had a 4.6/5 star review and for the life of me I have no idea why.
Server was so nice to run out a block from the restaurant to hand me my credit card I had left behind.
