Grill 23 & Bar Ratings and Reviews
I have eaten here one other time and had a better meal and evening.
Arrived earlier than our reservation and was seated immediately, at a table for 2 with one seat facing the wall. Many other seats were available. Overall food was good, but pricey. Service was choppy at the start trying to get a drink order in. they didn't have a type of rum requested and it was back and forth with that and then the server forget what the second drink was.
I wouldn't not recommend it, but it would not be on the top 2 choices for us again.
All in all, a decent place for a good steak but I probably will not be back.
I had a reservation lined up for weeks for my wife and I and when we arrive, they walk us past plenty of empty tables in the main dining area to a conference room that was completely separate and definitely not as nice as the main dining areas. The conference room turned overflow dining area pretty much ruined the whole experience for me; it was too quiet and awkward to have a normal dining conversation. In hindsight I should have requested another table.
We were seated right next to a busy wait station and our waiter seemed new and shy. Our server asked my wife if she would like her martini "on the rocks" which is not something I have ever heard before and wouldn't expect at a restaurant of this caliber. She said 'no' and it still came with lots of ice in it. Despite being in a very quiet part of the restaurant, we had difficulty understanding our server when he spoke as he kept mumbling and spoke too quietly.
Food & Drink (B):
The steak was very good but not the best I've had (see below). It was cooked correctly and had great texture and a good crust on the outside. The braised heirloom carrots were excellent. The mashed potatoes were bland and totally forgettable. Dessert was good but the cappuccino was weak and tasteless like it was made with old beans. Drinks were good but nothing special (aside from the martini on the rocks). I would hazard to say the drinks are overpriced ($20 for a Kettle One martini and $19 for a Maker's Old Fashioned). My wife did say she thought her chocolate cake was the best she's ever had. I tried it and it was indeed very good.
All in all, the whole experience was overpriced (bill came to $205). You can get better food, better ambience, and better service for roughly the same price at the Hanover Street Chophouse in NH. That place remains the gold standard by which I judge all other steak houses.
we drove from nyc for a visit, we asked to sit upstairs in a quiet room, for my wife's bday. everything was perfect. I had the 100 day dry aged rib eye and my wife enjoyed the waygu cap,
both cooked perfectly. they were two of the best steaks I have ever eaten! the drinks were large and desert great. I eat steak in nyc at least once a week and this was worth the trip! I just wish I could have visited the aging room,, next time
Came here to celebrate my fiance's birthday and had one of our best dining experiences ever.
The 100 day aged rib-eye was the best steak I had ever tasted in my life. The Halibut dish was also incredible. Our server Dan was friendly and knowledgable without being overbearing. Service overall was amazing. My water glass was never empty and the hostess was also very nice. Really great experience all-around and worth every dollar spent.
I'd like to have given our waiter 5 stars but he did forget to put the wine order in. Not too big a deal but I do like my wine to breathe a bit before drinking. So it wasn't really ready for the meal. In his defense he was busy with a few large group tables. But given the waiters don't bring the wine and all he had to do was put it in the computer.
The steaks were delicious! We had the 100 day aged and the Kobe. Amazing. Asparagus and mushrooms for sides which were pretty good (the mushrooms were wonderful but the asparagus was only okay). The ambience is great but it’s kind of loud. Meal felt pretty pricey BUT those steaks were worth it. Will go again.
I am from Buffalo NY, and travel about 4 times a year to Boston. My guests, however, live in the city, and commute frequently to thier homes on the coast. I have been to your restaurant about 4 times, but not in a couple years.......since i was hosting the dinner, i thought it was time to come back.....surprisingly, my guests had never been....all of us are foodies, however, my one friend i uber foodie, and had questions that our waiter never flinched upon, he was well infomed of all of the dishes and preparations. They loved it, and a stones throw from them, this will now be undoubtedly, one of their new Go To establishments, impeccable food and wine selectons and a continuum of amazing customer service!
We were a large group celebrating a special birthday. Grill 23 delivered on all accounts...food and service were top notch! Our server, Olivia was terrific and went out of her way to give us and the birthday girl extra attention. All of the above keeps Grill 23 in top rankings for Boston Steakhouses!
We came to celebrate a birthday and found ourselves very well taken care of. Our waiter, Garrett, provided excellent recommendations on both food, wine, and specials and offered to send over the sommelier for additional assistance. He was appropriately attentive and was sure to recognize the guest of honor as soon as we sat down. We followed the recommendations of some friends and Garrett and were very happy with our selection of steak and sides, as well as wine. When it came time for dessert we received a slice of delicious coconut cake complete with candle and small 'Happy Birthday' chocolate. The service was fantastic and the food was well worth the price and trip into the city to celebrate. We left with full stomachs, some leftovers, and smiles on our faces with plans to return.
Tonight was amazing. It was my friend and I’s first time here. The food was amazing, loved the atmosphere, and the waiter was very nice. He even misread my ID birthday as today instead of next month and kept telling me happy birthday. Very funny!! He even brought out this white chocolate bar with the chocolate layer cake I ordered with a lit candle on top! So thoughtful! 10/10 would recommend 😂😄🎂🍰
Grille 23 is one of our favorite restaurants in Boston and it did not disappoint on our recent visit. The food is always excellent and the service is top notch. We were seated upstairs for the first time, and we would have preferred the downstairs, although it wasn't really an issue. It is pricey so it's not a place we would go during the week for a bite. We only go on special occasions, but it's a real treat. I highly recommend it!
It was a wonderful meal at a quiet space they prepared for us. We made the reservation as an anniversary date on Opentable. They prepared us a more private space upstairs, the servers and waiters were extremely patient and helpful with orders. Food was amazing and the creme brulee was the best in boston steakhouse no doubt.
Flat iron steak outstanding. Tastiest steak I had in a while. Some of the sides missed the mark, most notably the Brussels sprouts. Not fully cooked and not really that tasty. Some places are doing amazing things with brussel sprouts these days. Somehow making them taste as good as potato chips! Cooked right they can melt in your mouth. Talking to you Dumpling Daughter in Weston!!! That's how to make brussel sprouts. But this is a steak place after all and the steak was really exceptional in flavor and texture.
