Great place for a date night. Food was slightly salty but overall delicious. Loved the Greystone Martini! Would definitely go again.
This restaurant was so overcrowded that there was no room for the staff to work. Both my husband's and my son's chair were constantly bumped into by waitstaff throughout the meal. Our waiter was abrupt and rude and seemed to be as miserable as we were. The food was just passable definitely not worth the cost. My lamb chops were thin and overdone. Of 6 of us, only one person who ordered the chicken was pleased with their meal. Also, after going downstairs, back past the kitchen I find a line outside the bathroom 6 women deep as they only have 1 stall for a 2 story restaurant packed with people. There are many better options in the San Diego area.
I would not recommend Greystone. I had made a reservation weeks before and on the day of the reservation an hour prior I received a text that it was cancelled so I immediately called and they said ok I could come in. We were a party of 14 we all have kids we got babysitters and were looking to enjoy a nice dinner and catch up. When we arrived we were sat in two different tables squished together in the bar area that was super crowded and people kept passing by and bumping us. I asked to get a table together and I was told they were booked so they couldn’t accommodate us I said I made this reservation weeks prior and I would like to sit together so they ended us moving us around but they looked very upset as they were doing it.
So to the food, it was not steak house level food at all. The portions were extremely small and the wagyu beef was definitely not wagyu quality. Sides were not included and the lava cake was dry with no flavor. I would never eat here again.
The only thing that was positive was our waiter. He was very friendly very helpful and kept checking on us which was nice.

The food was DELICIOUS. However, if you're planning to box anything to take home, specify that you want the whole plate (sauces, meat, sides, small pieces, large pieces etc.) We had a porkchop plate with leftover meat from my husband's dish, my porkchop, and sides and we got home to discover only the porkchop was boxed.
It was entirely too loud however I get it was Restaurant Week and a Friday night in the Gaslamp. They were understaffed and there was not enough seats. They made a makeshift table for us under the stairs. My steak was not cooked to my liking and they didn't ask if it was or if everything was good. The hostess did her best as people were yelling at her if they were not seated in a timely manner.
Was surprised when bill came. I think because we were a large group, they thought they could add to menu without us noticing.... especially on liquor!
Went on a anniversery...the attention from the hostes to the waiter was outstanding!

Food was excellent! This place sits in the middle of all the bars and eateries on 5th street, but it is truly a 1st class steak house!

Unfortunately a terrible experience with poor service and one of the worst center cut filet mignon steaks I have ever had. Baked potatoes were under cooked as well. It would be impossible to have worst service as waiter never even asked if we needed anything until we finished. The only positive was that the manager did her best to make things right so I will write it off to simply a bad meal given the many positive reviews I have read. Given how nice the manager was I suspect most of the reviews are accurate and we were simply unlucky.
We had a party of 8 and made reservations via OpenTable. Later on, I received an email from the restaurant in order to confirm our reservations we had to sign a form and adding an additional 20% service charge which was ridiculous. It was SDRW week and we picked this place since it had $50 & $60 menu and it was closed to show we were going to watch at 7:30 p.m. With having reservations, they placed our table right when you come in, I guess that's the only place they can accommodate a table for 8. The food wasn't great and the service was horrible (maybe because they knew they were already getting a big tip). Sad! We didn't have time to eat our dessert since the time was getting close to our show and we were going to walk to San Diego Civic Center so we asked our server if he can box it up. We came as a couple and after awhile he handed us a couple bags where our desert was. We had to figure out who had what as we all didn't drive together or lived in the same household. Highly don't recommend this place, there are better places that don't tack on an additional 20% service charge.

Service was slow, we were not looked after as well as some of the other older and more well dressed customers which was very insulting. Very over priced for what you get, steak is average and the elk was horrendous had to send back, will not visit again
The meat was good and the service excellent but I find it extremely expensive!
Great service partnered with great food!
Great food and great service. This was truly a treat as it was the first time that 4 of our 6 had ever had Wagyu, let alone A5 Grade Wagyu. We had perfect pairings on the wine and were even provided a complimentary 20yr old tawny port after dinner.
The only negative came toward the end of the meal, when the 20 person table next to us was seated and the noise level rose to such a degree that we could no longer hear our own conversation. When 20 people decide that they're the only people in the room, they should either be offered a private room or be politely encouraged to tone it down. Cattle prods strategically applied to the necks of loudmouth offenders might also suffice, but more for the entertainment value of other guests and much less so for the legal fees of the restaurant.
The overall experience was good. The food tasted great. The only issue I had was that the restroom area smelled like a trash dumpster.
Mains - eh, some steaks very good, such as Tomahawk and Porterhouse, Wagu A5 preparation fair, Filet so-so and somewhat dry.
Sides: Mushrooms below average, dry and not much taste. Portions small. Lobster Max and Cheese- ok.
Wines: Good selections.
Decent overall, but nothing to bring me back for a second visit.
We were there Saturday Sept. 7th.
Food was fantastic. Our server brought my girlfriend and I two glasses of champagne because it was her 25th birthday, as well as a delicious chocolate cake/pudding. Very thoughtful (it was a lady yet I forgot her name) server who was attentive and did a wonderful job.
Definately would go back!
Food is excellent. This is a very noisy venue in which it was impossible to hear our server. Found service staff had a bit of an attitude which, when combined with the noise, made interaction with service staff an unpleasant experience. This is not a restaurant to which I would return or recommend.
Amazing food and service. Lobster Mac n cheese to die for and the Waygu Beef was so flavorful! Wonderful wine list too!
The steak was better than Ruth Chris or Flemings and the service was the best.
Everything we had at Greystone was great. The calamari app was crunchy and tasty. The prime rib was cooked the way I wanted it (medium rare), and the side potato puree was tasty and well seasoned. But what made our experience here special was our server, Bryan T. He was very knowledgable and made great suggestions. He was very attentive and friendly. I will definitely go back when I go to SD.
Amazing service and food quality was perfect and a very large selection of gourmet meals to satisfy discerning couples. Wild game, Asian Beef. Highly recommend. We enjoyed it throughly!
The food and the service were very good, although our ribeye steak was under-cooked. And we expected this eatery to be somewhat pricey and we would have been perfectly fine with that. But this restaurant's prices are laughably, preposterously high. They are just not worth the money. The atmosphere is nice but nothing spectactular to justify the preposterous amount you pay for entrees.

The entire staff are awesome and so welcoming. We have a soft spot for James, for sure!! The food was spectacular and we will definitely be back!
Service was exceptional! We celebrated our Anniversary and the staff had the table setup with rose petals and we received complimentary champagne and desert. Aside from this the wait staff was superb! They checked in on us frequently and even provided a lot of great recommendations and information on menu items to include the certificate of authenticity of the Wagyu as well as the meat in its precooked form. Wonderful restaurant! We will definitely be going again.
Good service would recommend going for a special occasion as it is expensive
Took a leadership team of 17 there for dinner and were seated in the wine cooler at a table suited for 12. Not to mention that the wine cooler was at least 20 degrees cooler than the restaurant and requests to have it changed were ignored. Expected more based on the previous reviews and the sheer expense of the meal.
Outstanding as usual! The service, the food the ambiance, 2nd to none.
Excellent experience n wine List
I ordered the sirloin with Gorgonzola and it was incredible. She had the boar sausage paparadelle and it was delicious, although the pasta could use a little more sauce. We split the Brussel sprouts for a side and had chocolate birthday cake to top off a great special dimmer. Our waiter Brian was great.
Wagyu steak is by far the best steak ever. Excellent service as well. You will not be disappointed!
Food was good. The menu shows GF meals but it actually is a GF version of the meal was available. I didn’t get the feeling staff knew how to handle Gf. But my biggest issue was it smelled. At first it smelled like walking up to a stinking meet counter at a grocery store. Then it was extremely smoky from the grill. Enough that I thought someone was smoking at the table next to me. It eventually died down.
All in all, it was a good experience. The dry-aged NY steaks were cooked perfectly. Our service was on par with other high-end steakhouses. The only thing that bothered me was the server asked if we wanted water or sparkling water and we opted for plain water since both of us were ordering cocktails. When the bill came, they charged us $8 for plain water. I would normally question this but since it was a nice evening out, I didn't want to deal with it.
