Favorite in San Diego!
Took my wife here for our 1yr Anniversary. We enjoyed our dinner. They have us the best seat in the house, next to the fireplace.
Food was amazing! I would give 4.5 stars if it would take. 4.5 because the original plate I ordered I did not like after one bite. However, the waiter quickly rectified the situation and allowing me to choose something else. I originally ordered the antelope and I felt the sauce did not pair well with the protein. The meat was much more gamer than I expected and was not to my liking. However, one I switched to the bison, it was amazing! Even the oysters Rockefeller was out of this world! Better than mine! Would definitely return!
Judy was outstanding and made our last night in San Diego so enjoyable
We had reservations for 6 at 6:30 pm on a Friday evening for a family dinner. My family requested a “surf & turf” menu; I chose Greystone because we didn’t have “business casual” or “smart casual” attire packed for our long weekend visit to San Diego. The restaurant has a nice inviting atmosphere with 2 levels, approximately 20 tables total. Even with other guests dining nearby, the low noise level still allowed for easy conversation. Service was attentive and friendly. The starters (mushroom bisque & beet salad) arrived promptly and were delicious.
Most of the family ordered steak (filet mignon, New York), one added shrimp, another added lobster tails. The steak was excellent. Unfortunately, the Chilean sea bass was a disappointment (overly salty, masking the flavor of the fish). Side dishes (spinach, sautéed mushrooms) were also underwhelming. Next time I will pack my business attire, as there are many other restaurants to try in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
The service was very friendly and took care of everything. The food was outstanding, but I'd skip the side dishes-meh.
Best steak in San Diego, amazing!!!
Ask for Alex, great service :)
Great restaurant. Food great and nice atmosphere..
Thick cut for tomhawk steak suppose the thickest was not over price 90 was not told about the price total scam ..disgusting ..
Exquisite menu with unique items offered paired with extraordinary ingredients. Perfect ambiance with warm lighting enhanced the dining experience.
Comfortable steak house in the busy gas lamp quarter with a good selection for steaks and side dishes. Traditional restaurant, no selfserve buffets and so on. Good for conversation, larger tables for groups as well. Probably one of the best restaurants in town.
Great experience. Staff were very attentive. Food was well prepared & very tasty.
I don’t normally write reviews but my honest evaluation of the place is that it is a waste of money.
I would describe the unnecessary and pushy customer service as similar to the experience of walking by some feed the 3rd world children group of recruits at the mall who stop you mid stride to shove down biased statements in order to provoke action on your behalf.
Decent food, but definitely not worth the price. I could’ve made the food for much less.
Waiter is extremely pushy. Forces you to purchase a glass bottle of water. Constantly pushes to purchase alcohol. He probably asked us 5 times if we wanted alcohol. After saying we don’t drink alcohol, he finally left us alone.
After observation, those who purchased alcohol were offered free water from a pitcher, but if you are smart enough not to purchase their $15-20 drinks, you are stuck buying a $6 water bottle.
They tried again to have us buy more like salads and desserts when we obviously did not want any.
I’m really disappointed with my experience here and the service itself is what is keeping me away.
They are very condescending with the way they try to push you to purchase even more stuff.
I felt so pushed that I wanted to leave during the meal.
SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Greystone was an excellent steakhouse. Best steak we have had in a very long time!! Ambience was wonderful and a great place for us to have dinner with close friends. My only complaint is that the waitress repeatedly tried to upsell. I understand that happens all the time, however it was too much. For example, she recommended a $120 bottle of wine and downplayed the $55 bottle, indicating that she even had the $120 bottle of wine at home. If the $55 bottle was terrible, why have it at such an expense restaurant? That's not a cheap bottle either. The wine we selected was perfect with our meal and we had 2 bottles. At every turn, whether it was an appetizer, or dessert, she tried to upsell. I get it, however there is so much food between the appetizer, the main meal, multiple sides and then dessert. If you want amazing steak with wonderful ambience, this is the place to go to. Just bring a big wallet, it's expensive, however worth it.
Our waiter made the whole experience even better!!!
It was ok but I don't think it's worth it. Flemming's is wayyyyy better
Wish I could give it more stars. Menu offerings are appealing for the well traveled connoisseurs however it did not entirely hold through for us. Get everything in writing when ordering.
Sur 4 plats commandés 2 erreurs , de la chantilly renversé sur un manteau ..
My wife and I went to Greystone for our Anniversary and it was fantastic. The food and the service was top notch. They made us feel so special and really accommodated our every need. This is the perfect restaurant for celebrating any special event or a romantic dinner for two.
The food and service at Greystone are outstanding. The restaurant is reasonably comfortable although the night we were there the staff spent a great deal of time rearranging tables and chairs. It is quite expensive so it's a splurge kind of place.
We went here for our anniversary. The staff had rose petals on the table and a happy anniversary card. For desert they brought out a chocolate moose cake. The staff was amazing and the food was incredible!
Best Wagyu in San Diego. Friendly attentive service. Great wine selection
The best place to celebrate graduation party ! They had a preset menu to fit our budget. The service is excellent. Seafood steaks and gluten free everything.
Great as always! Easily top 5 steakhouses in San Diego. Probably the best “Mule” I’ve had as well.
Very very expensive for average quality food.
Our first time here and what a wonderful surprise. You knew it was a classy place as soon as you walked in. I love an open kitchen where you can see the food being cooked. If you like exotic meats, this is it. Boar, elk, bison, etc. The service and food were great!
Great food, very friendly service staff! Worth it and a fun dinner
Love love love the place! Food and drinks are amazing with stellar service as usual! Love Gabriel!
I came here to celebrate me and my boyfriend's birthdays. We came down to SD for a weekend trip and I felt like having a nice dinner. This restaurant is located in Gaslamp, so the high noise level was expected.
We ordered the japanese wagyu, 20oz ribeye, and truffle mac & cheese. Everything was delicious! Wagyu was definitely gave the feeling of melting in my mouth. It was priced at $22/oz, min 6 oz order. It came out as 8 thin slices. Both the wagyu and rib eye were cooked perfectly, we got medium rare. The mac&cheese was the best I've ever had. Super creamy with a smokey flavor. There was some miscommunication with boxing up our leftover mac&cheese though. I think they ended up tossing it away. We told our server and they were able to make a new one for us to take to go.
Since we were celebrating our birthdays, they also gave us free chocolate mousse. Just one piece haha.
Overall, I had a really good experience. The total came out to be $300 including tip. I probably wouldnt come here again just because of the price.
The food was well prepared and presented with style. All the salads and sides are a la carte, so it can get very expensive fast. We were in town for a conference and needed a place that could accommodate a large party on short notice and they set us up with a very nice table upstairs. We had a wide range of ages and food preferences in our group and everyone found something to suit them on the menu. Great experience, thank you!
Such an amazing experience. My husband and I went for dinner here for our first anniversary. They took care of us, from start to finish. We highly recommend it!! Such a great time!
We sat out in the open overlooking the seating below. Not very romantic or cozy. Wine by the glass was minimum $14.00 and maximum $45.00. Way too pricey. We got bottled water without asking. Then they changed us $6.00 for the bottled water. They did this to all the tables around us. A revenue enhancing trick. So bring lots of money if you eat at the Graystone.
This place is amazing! The service, food and drinks are all on point. In my opinion, it’s the Gaslamp Quarter’s best steakhouse...
We thought we would give Greystone a try and compare.
We were given a very small table covered in rose petals as I had mentioned this was a special occasion. The upstairs room was set up with several tables for two and two tables for large groups that would arrive as our dinner was winding down. The room was nice and well appointed and never got too loud even with lager groups ( a birthday and a bachelor party) seated near us.
Our service as polite but a bit pushy and unprofessional for a high end steak house. We brought our own wine and wanted to give it a chance to breathe while we sipped a cocktail and tried a starter. However our server was not really having any of it pushing us to put our entire order in right away. When we balked she seemed dismissive of us continued to press us for our order even though we explained we wanted to finish our cocktails first. Overall the entire service crew was just not what is expected or seen at the competition, not even to the standard of Born and Raised which I give a pass to as they are trying to be a "Hipster" steak house.
The food. My partners elk was wonderful, flavorful, and prepared to her liking. The potatoes served with it were also spot on. On the other hand my new york steak was served rare when I asked for medium-rare. While often subtle and not as important as the difference between rare and medium, I specifically asked for medium-rare and even discussed what that meant with the server ( I think they have to double check each order to prevent food getting sent back), yet my steak was rare. I din't send it back because...well I have already mentioned the service. The meat was tasty. Our sides mac&cheese and brussel sprouts were also pretty good.
All and all a decent meal, but the service and the fact that my steak was not properly prepared really put a damper on the experience.
With so many other options in San Diego I would leave this one to the tourists and expense account types..
The food was great, service was great but the only thing is the parking with the valet guys is 2 blocks to leave my car and 2 blocks to take it plus 25 mins waiting ( and the valet looks like they were rolling around on my car with the seat all way back and a/c on 60* that’s no good) everything besides the parking situation is really good 👍👍👍👍
We visited Greystone Prime Steakhouse to celebrate my husband's birthday and had a lovely evening. All of the staff, especially our server, Gilberto were extremely friendly, sincere, efficient and welcoming and made us feel pampered and appreciated and never made us feel rushed. All the food we had was wonderful (Local Yellowtail Crudo, Organic Greystone salad, Filet and Foie Gras, Herbed Butter Corn and Applewood Bacon, Choice Angus Filet with Béarnaise). The food came out at a perfect pace so that we were never sitting long without something wonderful to eat in front of us! For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Lava cake, which was fantastic and the staff was nice enough to also bring us a complimentary Chocolate Mousse for my husband's birthday. We finished our meal with a glass of 30 year old Port and a Cappuccino! Since we also ordered a bottle of wine and knowing we would be ordering dessert, we opted for Choice steaks instead of Wagyu but even so, they were extremely tender and delicious.
We will definitely think about visiting Greystone again when considering a fine dining, special occasion restaurant. Thank you to all the staff for a job well done!
Total upsell experience/steak was horrible.
by far one of the best dinner experience we have ever had
the service is exceptional. we celebrated and they were very accommodating
bone in filet with lobster tail was unreal
entire menu is gluten free which is really nice
sara the manager is excellent and we will be back.
Infortunately, the rib steaks tasted like they had been cooked on the same grill and at the same time with seafood. The fish taste overpowered the steak taste, which was unfortunate because we did no order the surf and turf
