I came here to celebrate me and my boyfriend's birthdays. We came down to SD for a weekend trip and I felt like having a nice dinner. This restaurant is located in Gaslamp, so the high noise level was expected.
We ordered the japanese wagyu, 20oz ribeye, and truffle mac & cheese. Everything was delicious! Wagyu was definitely gave the feeling of melting in my mouth. It was priced at $22/oz, min 6 oz order. It came out as 8 thin slices. Both the wagyu and rib eye were cooked perfectly, we got medium rare. The mac&cheese was the best I've ever had. Super creamy with a smokey flavor. There was some miscommunication with boxing up our leftover mac&cheese though. I think they ended up tossing it away. We told our server and they were able to make a new one for us to take to go.
Since we were celebrating our birthdays, they also gave us free chocolate mousse. Just one piece haha.
Overall, I had a really good experience. The total came out to be $300 including tip. I probably wouldnt come here again just because of the price.
The food was well prepared and presented with style. All the salads and sides are a la carte, so it can get very expensive fast. We were in town for a conference and needed a place that could accommodate a large party on short notice and they set us up with a very nice table upstairs. We had a wide range of ages and food preferences in our group and everyone found something to suit them on the menu. Great experience, thank you!
Such an amazing experience. My husband and I went for dinner here for our first anniversary. They took care of us, from start to finish. We highly recommend it!! Such a great time!
We sat out in the open overlooking the seating below. Not very romantic or cozy. Wine by the glass was minimum $14.00 and maximum $45.00. Way too pricey. We got bottled water without asking. Then they changed us $6.00 for the bottled water. They did this to all the tables around us. A revenue enhancing trick. So bring lots of money if you eat at the Graystone.
This place is amazing! The service, food and drinks are all on point. In my opinion, it’s the Gaslamp Quarter’s best steakhouse...
We thought we would give Greystone a try and compare.
We were given a very small table covered in rose petals as I had mentioned this was a special occasion. The upstairs room was set up with several tables for two and two tables for large groups that would arrive as our dinner was winding down. The room was nice and well appointed and never got too loud even with lager groups ( a birthday and a bachelor party) seated near us.
Our service as polite but a bit pushy and unprofessional for a high end steak house. We brought our own wine and wanted to give it a chance to breathe while we sipped a cocktail and tried a starter. However our server was not really having any of it pushing us to put our entire order in right away. When we balked she seemed dismissive of us continued to press us for our order even though we explained we wanted to finish our cocktails first. Overall the entire service crew was just not what is expected or seen at the competition, not even to the standard of Born and Raised which I give a pass to as they are trying to be a "Hipster" steak house.
The food. My partners elk was wonderful, flavorful, and prepared to her liking. The potatoes served with it were also spot on. On the other hand my new york steak was served rare when I asked for medium-rare. While often subtle and not as important as the difference between rare and medium, I specifically asked for medium-rare and even discussed what that meant with the server ( I think they have to double check each order to prevent food getting sent back), yet my steak was rare. I din't send it back because...well I have already mentioned the service. The meat was tasty. Our sides mac&cheese and brussel sprouts were also pretty good.
All and all a decent meal, but the service and the fact that my steak was not properly prepared really put a damper on the experience.
With so many other options in San Diego I would leave this one to the tourists and expense account types..
The food was great, service was great but the only thing is the parking with the valet guys is 2 blocks to leave my car and 2 blocks to take it plus 25 mins waiting ( and the valet looks like they were rolling around on my car with the seat all way back and a/c on 60* that’s no good) everything besides the parking situation is really good 👍👍👍👍
We visited Greystone Prime Steakhouse to celebrate my husband's birthday and had a lovely evening. All of the staff, especially our server, Gilberto were extremely friendly, sincere, efficient and welcoming and made us feel pampered and appreciated and never made us feel rushed. All the food we had was wonderful (Local Yellowtail Crudo, Organic Greystone salad, Filet and Foie Gras, Herbed Butter Corn and Applewood Bacon, Choice Angus Filet with Béarnaise). The food came out at a perfect pace so that we were never sitting long without something wonderful to eat in front of us! For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Lava cake, which was fantastic and the staff was nice enough to also bring us a complimentary Chocolate Mousse for my husband's birthday. We finished our meal with a glass of 30 year old Port and a Cappuccino! Since we also ordered a bottle of wine and knowing we would be ordering dessert, we opted for Choice steaks instead of Wagyu but even so, they were extremely tender and delicious.
We will definitely think about visiting Greystone again when considering a fine dining, special occasion restaurant. Thank you to all the staff for a job well done!
Total upsell experience/steak was horrible.
by far one of the best dinner experience we have ever had
the service is exceptional. we celebrated and they were very accommodating
bone in filet with lobster tail was unreal
entire menu is gluten free which is really nice
sara the manager is excellent and we will be back.
Infortunately, the rib steaks tasted like they had been cooked on the same grill and at the same time with seafood. The fish taste overpowered the steak taste, which was unfortunate because we did no order the surf and turf
Unfortunately, we had a bad experience. The Wagu beed at $40 per ounce was tasteless and the lobster tail tasted fishy. This was an important business meeting from associates from New York, I was embarrassed.
Just be careful with large parties...they include the gratuity!
We were celebrating our anniversary. The staff went the extra mile to make our night special, including rose petals on the table. Excellent service
Disappointed - went because of the reviews, salad was warm, dinner ok. We were a party of two and were stuffed next to another two that was a booth designated for a four top - not worth the value
Tonight I can for an early dinner, around 5 pm. Happy hour was infill effect which was enough to satisfy my craving. After 14 days abroad, I wanted some thing my stomach was familiar with. Started with the shrimp tacos and finished with the locally scoured yellowtail, cold center. It was exactly what I wanted. Perfect level of spice to clear my sinuses without making me uncomfortable as well as a wine selection, which paired perfectly with every dish that came out. Trust your server's suggestions! Most places are about the upsell, however the staff at greystone is dedicated to have your palate have the most enjoyable experience in the gaslamp quarter!!! Still at the top of my list, 10 year later!
The primes were wonderful, and top it off, the service was wonderful too. Good ambient for a quiet evening. Extra early opening helped avoiding the crowd.
I’ve been to several great steakhouses all over the country. I’ve been to most of the good ones here in San Diego too, but Greystone is at the top. Mainly because of their Japanese Wagyu beef I’d had the privilege to try. This high quality meat met my expectations. It was so flavorful! It was served excellently prepared and tasted fantastic. I had oysters on the half shell which were tiny but fresh and flavorful. My lobster tail was a little over cooked, but served its purpose. As for the restaurant, like most downtown establishments, they cram as many tables as possible inside these places. My table was comfortable, but in a high traffic area. I had to make sure I had no extremities in the walkway as not to get bumped during my meal. Oh! One of the table runners, not my server, was apparently untrained. He poured my Pellegrino as if he was trying to water some plants! He splashed water all over me and my cell phone (I was using it at the time). I literally had to take the napkin and wipe my cell phone screen and my face from all the water splash! Every time he returned after that I didn’t let him pour it. I just poured it myself. Nothing terrible. I just wanted to point that out. My server, Dennis, was ok. Nothing fantastic to write home about. He did his job. I had to ask him his name. He never told us when we were seated. FYI, don’t come here prepared to relax and have a conversation after your meal. Once you’re done eating, they shuttle you out real fast in order to get the next customer in The men’s room was very tiny. Uncomfortably close with more than one person inside. I thought the paper towel dispenser was more appropriate for lesser establishments. I will definitely return to Greystone. They have several cuts I’m looking forward to trying. Until I find the next great steakhouse in San Diego, Greystone will be my regular destination for fine cuts.
Not only the food is outstanding. The staff from the top to the bus members are just amazing! They are all so attentive to your every need. I will eat dinner there every time I’m in San Diego. And you should too!
Over rated. Noisy
Average (== good) food. Overpriced wine. Narrow tables.
Great restaurant. We have been back a few times. Food is excellent and our waitress (Jessica) was fantastic. Great service is so important and this restaurant knocks it out of the park!
Food is always good, the Hamachi Crudo was excellent and our steaks were cooked perfectly.
Foods not cheap, so come prepared, but worth it.
The restaurant was great and the bar is cool but they had taken too many walking and the customers were staying at their tables well past normal times. Our reservation was for 8pm and we didn’t get seated until 9:15pm. They definitely weren’t in control of the situation. This is obviously a popular place but they over committed themselves that night. It was a Tuesday night.
Japanese A5 Wagyu- does more need to be said? Quality food with quality servers. Every course is high quality flavor!
Ambiance good. Service excellent. Steaks were seasoned well but I prefer a more grilled exterior.
My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary here and the staff were all fantastic. The Wagyu is a once (or more) in a lifetime must and the bone in filet melts in your mouth! Unfortunately, now I have a side of beef in my freezer that just won’t be the same :-)
I went there to celebrate my birthday and the food and staff were incredible, they were friendly and very attentive to our needs, they made me feel very special on my birthday
It was our anniversary and we loved it. Slight mix up with my order but the management and staff bent over backwards to rectify the situation. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Great night.
Smoked cheddar truffle Mac and cheese is unreal. Wagyu beef amazing. Great service and great location
Started off with oysters and lump crab cake. Both were very good, however, I learned that lump crab cake is different than regular crab cake. We split a 20oz New York strip, brussel sprouts and Parmesan truffle fries. The steak was charred (the good kind of charred) on the outside and medium rare inside, as ordered. Overall, a fantastic meal.
We arrived an hour early and couldn't be seated before our reservation which was fine and we thought that could happen so we went next door for a drink. We came back and they told us our table wasn't ready. After another half hour of the hostesses running around doing nothing a manager came by to check on us and gave us a free glass of champagne for our wait. After another 15 minute wait we finally got a table and learned that the table that they had planned to give us still had people at it after 3 hours and they paid and still didn't leave. We were then told that the kitchen was backed up and it took another hour to get our food. We ordered an appetizer that never came and they got one of the sides wrong, but the rest of the food was absolutely fantastic. The Sommelier was great and picked a great wine for us. They tricked us into getting a desert saying that we would get it comped for waiting so long for food, but ended up bringing a second small one us that was comped not the one I ordered, both were great tho. Was a very pricey dinner. This was our experience, make of it what you will.
Waitress included tip in bill for 5 people without asking. Staff kept bringing bottles of water and refilling without asking if we wanted another bottle. Presumptive service.
I should have learned my lesson by now. Never go to a steakhouse on Valentine's Day! While it was Valentines Day our reservation was fairly early & the restaurant was not crowded until 45 min. later. The Valentines Day Pre-fixe menu was substantial & while the Wagyu steak was tasty we did not receive the 3 sides that were ordered & waiter never came by to see how we were doing until we were done. Not that sides were necessary with our 4oz. behemoths. By this time the place was full and cramped, did I mention it was Valentine's Day? Seated next to us was a woman whom has yet to realize after 40 or so trips around the sun that a little perfume goes a looooong way. Fortunately their wine glasses are large enough to place even the largest schnoz in order to escape the surrounding stench. Hopefully the service is superior beyond Valentine's Day but I doubt I'll be returning to find out.
I’m not rich, so a night at Greystone was the first time I’ve splurged hard for a meal, but I’m very happy that I did. The servers were absolutely incredible, and the four course meal was the perfect amount. I’ve never had a cut of beef so perfectly cooked mid-rare, or a cheesecake so thick yet so soft all at once. It was a chance to show my girl what the finer things are like, and the cost was thankfully worth it.
I love it!
I wish I can love this place. Two of my co-workers highly recommended it, and I highly regard their restaurant taste.
My partner and I went on a Valentine's dinner, with a fixed menu. We both chose the $125 per person meal. Our crab legs were frozen, our steak was not that great, and brussel sprouts were under seasoned. Although service was quick and attentive, that did not save the horrible and overpriced meal we had.
Great Valentines’ day dinner menu!
Good server. Not impressed with food quality for price nor with management policy charging for no show on a guest whose flight was delayed 4 hours and unable to attend.
As always, awesome venue with excellent staff, great menu, supreme quality
