A sister restaurant to Grey Lady in New York City. The Grey Lady is a nickname for the fog on Nantucket. The owners are all lifelong Nantucketers, and when they decided to open a seafood restaurant, the name was a natural fit.

I don’t understand the buzz about this restaurant. The food is very ordinary and overpriced. Very limited, boring menu. Nothing much to write home about...

Had to ask to get a server and a drink after waiting a half hour after being seated. Then waited almost an hour and a half for entrees. Also, there is an enormous line for the two unisex bathrooms. Each trip my someone in our party took 15 to 20 minutes.

Caters to a very young crowd. Was early in the season, had dinner on a rainy night over MD weekend. Even half full, noise level was pretty high, can only imagine what it will be like at height of the season. Lots of milennials, mostly women, in white jeans and stilettos, guessing they were fueling up before hitting Surf Lodge. Staff was lovely and service was quite good, but if you are over 35, you may want to go elsewhere!

First time here and not quite what we expected. More like a casual seafood “shack” with waitress service. Food was ok, lobster rolls disappointing, banana split was the worst attempt at a dessert favorite and best left off the menu. The wait staff was very pleasant which made the extra star possible. Not cheap and definitely think there are better places in Montauk. Wanted to like it more....

Amazing food: Burrata tomato salad, crab toast, fried seafood were worth every expensive penny. Only complaint: Music outside was so loud, had to yell over it while in the restaurant.

Cozy spot by the water in Montouk. On a non-Friday and Sat night it's a great spot for dinner with a view. It gets a bit wild on weekends, but either way the food is really great. Limited menu, but everything is good!

I arrived for my reservation and was told they did not have it in the system. When I showed them the confirmation email, they essentially ignored it. They kept telling me that they would look into it and just never coming back while I stood there for an hour.

While standing there, I watched them selling people tables if they agreed to a $1,000-$1,500 minimum tab. It was clear that they had decided they had such a high demand for people to get in and drink "bottle service" that they were giving away previously reserved tables in order to make as much money as possible. Why care about a customer who is coming for dinner when you have a 21 year old and his friends who will spend $1,500 just to sit at a table?

I've never seen an establishment treat patrons like this before. It was appalling. If you want to have tables available for bottle service starting at 10 PM, then fine. But don't allow people to make open table reservations past 10 PM, have them come all the way to your restaurant, and then ignore them because you've decided you have enough demand for bottle service that you don't need that table to be filled with people eating dinner.

There is nothing vegetarian on the menu. The exorbitantly priced $28 tacos came in bone dry tortillas. Wouldn't recommend for a nice dinner. Best for 21-year-olds looking to get trashed after 10pm. Management is very nice though, I do want to note that. It's just not a good dining experience for anyone over 25.

The food was absolutely amazing and if solely based on that I would've given this five stars. however the service was absolutely horrendous. We had to basically flag down servers every single time we needed to order something including the check! The only time anyone came to our table was to mistakenly offer us food that we did not even order. This happened four times not even exaggerating. Such a disappointment! if they fix their service issues I would try this restaurant again otherwise would not recommend

Well I booked this restaurant in the summer and received an initial confirmation email as well as a follow up email the day before...October 9th. Well imagine our surprise when we arrived to a boarded up restaurant. They closed for the season without alerting patrons. Since this was Columbus Day weekend we were stuck looking for a last minute place to eat. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL !

The hostess was extremely kind and welcoming. But the rest bad. I felt that the music was way too loud. You're acreaming at the person in front of you. Oysters were terrific, the sea bass though was too small of a portion, most of which was the brown stripe down the middle of the fish so there wasnt much to eat there, except for a few spoonfuls of puree on literally 3-4 veggie pieces. Massive dissapointment. Waitress was all over, couldnt get her attention, and the place just seemed very over priced for the quality. It doesn't hold up value wise compared to ththe high end staples in th hamptons that have been around forever. Prices need to reflect the atmosphere and food quality/quantity. I can see this being a good casual lunch spot if it was better priced

We drove by here the night before our reservation and thought it was closed. There were only a few cars in the lot at prime time. We were able to move our reservation from 6:45 to 7:30 at 5:00 the day of. When we arrived there were only a few tables taken. The room is very hip; great design touches. Service was excellent. Drinks were on the high side but that seems to be the way it is for all MTK restaurants. The calamaris app with brussels was excellent as was the beet sales. The lobster roll had a decent amount of lobster(not as much as you get at Lunch) was very tasty but was pricy. Swordfish with roasted peaches was excellent. I hope this place makes it.

Our waitress was terrible and unfriendly. She took the plates of oysters and drinks and emptied the liquid onto the rock floor in front of us and other patrons outside. Wasn't helpful with the menu, wasn't sure of what drinks were even available, wouldn't give us the wifi password. She didn't even know what the happy hour special really was.

Advertised as "waterfront dining" - saw the tops of boats, but no water. The patio was practically in the parking lot. Extremely limited menu with more food of the land than of the sea.

We enjoyed deliciously prepared and very fresh Striped Bass and Cod dishes as our entrees. Our apps of a Beet salad and Oysters were good but not as special as our main course. Wine by the glass choices were good and a pre-dinner cocktail "Dark & Stormy" was not prepared with dark rum. Our waitress was attentive but when told our "sweating" drink glasses were dripping off of the table and making a puddle on the floor - she did not seem too concerned. We remedied the situation by using extra napkins to place our drinks and water carafe on - perhaps coasters or cocktail napkins would be a better restaurant solution. All said we would go back - as I think this new restaurant has not yet been discovered and we were only one of about 8 tables occupied. As the tables are close together this certainly worked to our advantage!

This place is probably better for lunch. The focus was totally on the "club" scene on the deck with diners coming a VERY poor second!

The food was delicious - even if it all did come at different times in a slightly random fashion.

The service was great primarily because our waitress was great and very empathetic to the experience we were having.

The bar tenders were terrible - out of four drinks they screwed up two, and the two they got right were pre-mixed so not exactly a challenge.

The high point was the drunk guy who joined the table next to us - basically sitting on my lap and not caring, to the point we had to move the table to have space to eat.

Overall I wouldn't recommend it for dinner Thursday - Sunday, it might be better during the week. I'd be willing to give it a shot for lunch as the food was good.

Nice ambience and cool vibe.

The obvious negative about Grey Lady is the service. The waitstaff are amateurs. Not refined experienced servers at all. We (party of 2) sat down and ordered a good 15 minutes before a table of 3 next to us. Both tables ordered appetizers and main dishes. We got our apps first. And they ended up getting their entree a good 15 minutes before ours came. Stuff like that really aggravates me. When I complained and asked why they received their food first (and where was our food after 45 minutes Post-appetizer!), the very green waitress went and asked the kitchen and came back and said "because you ordered the chicken." I pointed to the other table and said - hmmm but they ordered the chicken too! Nice try but that one wouldn't fly. So she went back and came back with a different excuse: it was bc we ordered the fish. I've cooked a lot of fish and know fish cooks fast .... Anyway service is bad. Also as mentioned, there was also a good 45 minutes between our apps and main course.

After we finally got the food it was good though. The waitress made a halfhearted attempt to comp me a drink but she couldn't even do that properly "can I get you a drink"... I declined either way.

We really enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The menu was well thought out and intriguing! The prices for the drinks were a bit high and the price for the cod (although outstanding!) was high and especially when you considered the size of the piece of fish served.

We went to The Grey Lady in Montauk for a birthday dinner. The drink specials were delicious and the fresh fish was amazing! Between five of us we had Tile Fish, Lion Fish, and Cod. The fish was very fresh and was also delicious. We went on a Tuesday night in July and had no problem getting a reservation and the service was excellent.

This gorgeous new restaurant was aesthetically pleasing, however the service went from bad to worse. First, we ordered drinks from the bartender, (I asked, "what white wine do you have by the glass" and she responded "Yup, and then gestured with her head to my husband as if to ask what he wanted) she casually served us at a pace that felt like she believed she was doing us a favor.

We sat for our meal beside a loud group of eight (seven men, one woman) in their mid twenties, who were so drunk and loud that it had the surrounding neighbors talk with us about it. The waitress came to our table and asked what kind of water we would like. If all else had gone well, that wouldn't have mattered so much. But the service was dreadful. For example, after bringing our water to the table, our waittress came back and asked, "Ready?" No "Do you have any questions about the menu?" or "Would you like to start with appetizers?" Just "Ready?" It was only 6:30 p.m., yet the minute we got there, I felt like they wanted us out.

I asked if they had coffee (they didn't), and moments later a check was on our table. What we had hoped would be a nice, relaxing meal in Montauk was just the opposite. Food was good, but not so good that I'd endure that kind of treatment by going back again. Way better restaurants with far better service to choose from on Montauk.

Made reservation 3 weeks ago. Gave us a 9:15 time slot. Get to restaurant and get seated next to a party of 20+. They were having a great time and enjoying themselves loudly. We could hear it from outside. Asked to move nicely so people could continue to have fun and we could hear each other speak. We were put in main dining area as outside was filled. We were out trying to have dinner w new friends. As we sat there waiting for dinner a nightclub grew up around us. We hadn't even eaten yet and the lights kept getting darker and darker and the music louder and louder. Security set up at the door and lines started to form as droves of young ones started to fill the room. All tables had been taken out and a scene unfolded as we waited for our food. We could not see, hear, or do anything but gobble down our food and get out of there fast. Our feet didn't touch the ground before the table was taken away. On complaining to the manager that this was nuts he told me I wanted to sit there. As if I knew a nightclub would be in full blast in 40 min. He reluctantly comped some of the bill with no apologies. Will never go back again. Beware taking late reservation if you are less than 25 years of age. This was touted as a new laid back restaurant. Hard to believe.
