Disappointed with the food at Grey Gardens. Albacore tuna, beef carpaccio and cod were prepared well but nothing special in terms of the flavour. Sunchokes dish really stood out and it was the best dish of the night. My desert (panna cotta) was terrible, it was salty and ingredients didn’t work together, my friend had a donut and seemed to be more satisfied. Even oysters were served without mignonette or lemon but with 2 sauces, flavourless green concoction and a boring spicy one. The service was attentive, but not confident, i.e. servers mumble what the dish is. It is a cute place but not to our liking for a repeat visit.
Excellent knowledgeable staff with courteous & timely service. Everything we ordered was fantastic.I want to go back and try everything else.
I can’t think of a place more magical than here for a one year anniversary.
My girlfriend and I had dinner on a Wednesday night to celebrate her new job. Its unassuming store front belies a cozy, open aesthetic, and I was blown away by the menu offerings. Everything that we had was of the highest execution; the food is rich and creative, the wine offerings are excellent value, and the staff are quality. We will be talking about our meal for a long time.
First off, everything we ordered was over-seasoned. We had pork and truffle terrine, which was RIDICULOUSLY salty (let alone to start the meal) followed by a salty maiitake mushroom salad with duck egg and pecorino (which actually would’ve been amazing without so much salt). My girlfriend couldn’t eat much of the dishes so I had to force myself to eat most of them to not embarrass ourselves or the chefs (which we are too). But really, we should’ve said something...we then had SALT COD with sunchokes (which would’ve been good by its own but i.e. oversalty starters etc.) to finish....out of all things, they gave you f the chicken sausage from our 4 choices....just a brick rolling around in cement...step it up !!!!!!! I would’ve spent twice as much money if half of it wasn’t going into salt.
Incredible space and fantastic meal. Alex who was bartending made us feel welcome and created the most delicious cocktails.
Food was phenomenal.
This place is spectacular!
From the moment I called to adjust a reservation Meg, who answered the call, was kind and helpful and able to switch us to an earlier seating at the communal table. My friends and I were pumped to get in, since we booked this reservation late.
The day of our dinner, Meg texts to confirm our res—confirmed!
The res was for four. Two were running late. Myself and one (the bday girl we celebrated) arrived on time, were greeted so warmly and shown to our table—a standard table, not the communal one. I looked at the young lady seating us and asked if she was Meg. It was her! I thanked her for adjusting our res, and then adjusting our seating to a standard one. She was so kind about all of it and out the gate set the tone for our night.
The place is beautiful—chic, warm and welcoming. And the playlist was soooo good! Quiet enough to allow conversation, yet loud enough to be heard and continuously add to our night with awesome songs!
The staff was amazing!! Sweet, helpful, fun! Our server Kayla was awesome!! She was so nice, knew her cocktails, gave us the space we needed to catch up, yet left us feeling so incredibly tended to! She had great suggestions on all things—food & drink—and allowed us to have a fabulous, unrushed dinner.
The food, the food, the food...DELISH! Every single thing we had was amazing! Perfectly seasoned, cooked, presented...just yum! And coursed out beautifully! We had the chips & dip, killer bread & butter, beef carpaccio (one of THE best I’ve had) yummy beats dish and the labneh salad. Two noodles, which were off the hook—the ravioli and the cavatelli!! The scallop...I don’t even like scallops but had to try because the food was so good, and these were equally delicious! We ended the dinner with coffee, the chocolate torte and two rounds of the donut. AHmazing meal!!!
I cannot wait to come back to TO and eat here again. Run, don’t walk for an overall lovely night out!
A hidden gem excellent service and amazing food
The rutabaga and COD dishes were quite good. Different flavours than usual. We also had the donut. This was more than enough food for 2 females. I found the portions too big for such strong flavours. I like big flavourful food but these combinations really stick with you. The cod was okay and my favourite was the rutabaga. Service was outstanding and unpretentious. Prices a bit too high. Including the $12 donut.
Enjoyed the meal. Will be back. Perfect for small sharing plates and great for pescatarians
One of my fav restaurants in the city and a must visit when we are in town. Entertained local friends there and they said it was hands down the best meal they have had in Toronto. Great ambience, amazing food and impeccable service.
Delicious!! Ambiance , wait staff incredible!! A must when you are a n Toronto!!!
Delicious and subtle dishes, great wine list, sensitive, attentive service that is not intrusive. Sharing plates and bar seating make for intimate, casual dining.
Wonderful, inventive dishes!
We were given two seats at the bar for our dinner, which we love. It was a crowded and fun night. The cooks were busy and happy. When my partner could not decide which wine he wanted, the waiter gave him two complementary tastes in order to make his decision. We loved every dish. We did think the pasta for the ravioli needed to be a little more 'al dente' but other than that, it was a fabulous evening. Thank you Grey Gardens!
Went here for our anniversary. Staff are superb are really friendly and very accommodating. They can walk you through the menu give you recommendations on what to eat and how many plates to get. I was told to get 5 between 2 of us which is a perfect amount. Really enjoyed the beef carpaccio. Didn't finish our second bottle of wine and we got to bring that home which was great too.
Lovely ambiance, price point is at the higher scale, i would save it for special occasions.
Thanks for a great night
Amazing all around.
Fabulous wine selection. Enjoyed three new wines to us over the course of the evening. Knowledgeable waitress. Very tasty dishes. Shared 6 dishes and 2 desserts. All unusual and delectable.
Fantastic restaurant. Creative dishes, excellent service and impressive wine list. Great place to celebrate special occasions, or simply enjoy a good meal.
The menu is always changing, so you have the opportunity to sample new dishes each visit.
Make sure to order the pasta and save room for dessert. Also, kudos to the Grey Gardens team for elevating the humble donut.
I love this place generally, and it was still great. Off to a bit of a rough start tho as I’d specifically asked to sit at a table when I made the reservation weeks earlier and still they tried to seat us at the bar. Eventually they did give us a table. Food was great, especially the noodle dishes.
Very charming atmosphere; warm service and knowledgable wine service..small delicious plates for sharing..nice welcome from person at front of house. Situated close to transit; would definitely return.
In one word, INCREDIBLE. Food was the best we have had in a very long time. We also live in New York and London and so far, nothing compares. It is expensive, but aren't all restaurants now days. Our server and I'm sorry I don't have her name, answered every question we had whether it is about the food, the wine or the history of the name of restaurant. I would go back time and time again and would eat there on a regular basis if I could afford it. Thanks to the chefs for creating this masterpiece.
I had to submit another review because we dined at Grey Gardens Saturday night, and had their new winter menu. I'm used to exceptional food at GG, and this new menu may have set a new standard. We only had one old favourite (the chips and mackerel) and had new items for the rest, and every single dish was amazing. The citrus salad is just delicious, as was the scallop main dish. We had two of the new pastas (the ravioli and the spicy one with chili) and they were just so good. We are already planning a return trip to try other dishes we didn't get to. As always, the service was first rate, and I think one of the best curated wine lists in Toronto. Happy to know one of our favourite places is still hitting home runs!
We had heard about Grey Gardens from a couple of different friends and decided to try it out on a Friday evening for dinner. It Dustin disappoint, with unassumingly great food and on-point service. Each dish was really well done and the cider and wine we had were also unique and tasted great.
We’ll definitely return!
Grey Gardens is one of my favorite restaurants in Toronto! A visit to Grey Gardens always feels like I’m coming to a good friend or family’s house for an incredible meal. The entire staff is so welcoming and kind. The food is divine. And the ambiance and music is fantastic. Would come back and will come back soon!
Grey Gardens’ small-plates approach to dining is imaginative and highly successful. Service was both attentive and helpful. The only drawback: it’s a small, crowded and noisy space. The food made up for it, though.
Way way way too loud.
Cant really come back even though it’s
Otherwise fabulous.
we went for my birthday dinner and let me tell you, i’ve been plenty restos in TO and grey gardens has been my abso-fave experience all the way from the wine to the food to the dessert. i’ll be going back often. the service was excellent. our server, jessica, was a delight. i honestly can’t recommend it enough. the menu is super simple but each dish was subtlety deceptive and layered. OOOF! i cannot wait to go back. (:
Date night! Amazing food and all around experience!
Always awesome at Grey Gardens
Interesting dishes and nice environment. Service was great. Gem in Kensington market.
Wonderful spot in the city to have a great meal with friends!
One of the best places in all of Toronto!
Delicious and exciting wine list. A wonderful way to spend our NYE, thanks!
Amazing experience! Food is outstanding and constantly changing. Went twice in one week and both times the food and service was extraordinary!
Beast! V yum
Lovely atmosphere and the staff were wonderful! The food was absolutely delicious and interesting flavors!
Alex our waiter was fantastic. He did a great job guiding us through the menu. His recommendations were great. I will definitely come again
