We know there is a way to use traditional ingredients familiar to Soul Food enthusiasts, but presented as a healthier version of everyone’s favorites. We've developed recipes that incorporate the best aspects of traditional dishes allowing the natural flavors to shine through.
Wherever possible, we are using local, organic and sustainably produced ingredients. We support independently owned, local businesses wherever we can. We are committed to limiting the carbon footprint created by our business and have made a number of choices to meet that goal.
We feature live music on weekends with local artists covering a range of musical genres from Soul to R&B, Folk and Singer-Songrwiters.
Service is unpredictable- you really never know that you are going to get- it’s either going to be terrible or awesome.
Yes! I would recommend Green Soul to everyone, not just friends. I'm in love with the roasted Brussels Sprouts and their prices.
Green Soul is awesome! I had the"Impossible Cheesesteak" which is perfect for a 'meatless/vegetarian' delicious sandwhich and the buffalo cauliflower! All served by a gracious and expedient staff! This is definitely a REPEAT trip Restaurant!!!!
Our server Natasha was fantastic! Friendly, informative & attentive. We had no idea what to order beyond drinks. She made great recommendations and we loved everything. Live music, great atmosphere. We will return!
We had a wonderful dinner! Try the North African Chicken and Brussel Sprouts... just yum. Great place, lovely service, delicious food. Definitely recommended. :)
Green Soul is an AMAZING for anyone looking for healthy food options with a laid back fun vibe! The brussell sprouts are a MUST HAVE!!!
Great atmosphere and service is impeccable. Definitely going back especially when family and friends come to visit.
Great good and service. Healthy options and drinks for a person who wants to go out and feel good about their choices
We had a great experience. The food and service were awesome. I would recommend this restaurant.
We loved Green Soul. The food was really good and our waitress perfectly attentive. Try the lavender blackberry lemonade - what a treat! My superfood salad was fresh and flavorful and my friends jerk salmon was nicely spiced (not to strong, but still spiced). We came at 8:00 on a Saturday night and were surprised to be treated to a terrific soul singer (Bree and The Reeds). Green Soul welcomes everyone and it was fun to be part of the diverse and eclectic group of diners. This is a great find!
Food was great and higher quality than you would expect at this price point. We were there on a Saturday evening and they had live entertainment which was really great. Very enjoyable evening. One area of improvement should be the service as we ordered multiple appetizers and they all come out at different times and the mains came out at all different times. This was not optimal but I think this could easily be managed with better instructions. We will be back. Brussel sprouts are a must have and I think a great shared item.
Great experience, great food, great service, and amazing live music! I will definitely go back for other occasions!
Food and atmosphere were great! Would definitely go back!
Carrot and parsnip app, stuffed poblano pepper small dish, and jerk salmon tacos were all DELICIOUS. Went here for a dinner date on the weekend and the ambience was very pleasant. The only thing that lacked was the service. The wrong dishes came out to our table twice. Waiting staff seemed a bit disorganized. However, they all were very friendly. Overall, I say check it out for some extremely tasty, healthy and creative dishes in a more relaxed environment.
I liked the atmosphere. The decor was fun and the music was great. Its a charming neighborhood spot with good food and interesting menu options to try.
I want to eat here again before rendering a full review of this restaurant.
Great food; just need to work on the service which is a little slow even with reservations. However I would definitely recommend this restaurant. I will be returning soon.
Food is good if you get served. They forgot we were there and it was before a concert so we had to leave before we had our meal.
Very generous half-carafe of house red was given. The small salad with mango jerk salmon was very good. The Roots soul bowl (farro barley root veg bowl) was a large portion and tasty, but could have used some more root veggies. Casual but decent atmosphere.
I was meeting a friend for lunch. The food was delicious, as expected. The restaurant was surprisingly and woefully understaffed, but because we were engrossed in conversation, not in a hurry, and we know the owners, we were fine. (My friend did get a parking ticket. 😬) Our server, who was the only server, treated us so well. She was pleasant, calm and professional. I think her name is Nadira. She was the amazing.
Had lunch here and was impressed with the variety of menu options as well as the quality of the cuisine.
Our server was very knowlegeable about the menu and very caring in her approach, but the service was extremely slow. Maybe it was the kitchen rather than the server’s fault, but the service needs to be more prompt and efficient. Despite this, I would definitely return, and am eager to come here for dinner.
If you're looking to wow your taste buds, this is the place for you. All of the options were wonderfully seasoned. I loved the variety of foods and drinks available on the menu. I'm not Vegan but if I were, this would be a wonderful option -- and you non-vegan companions will enjoy it as well.
This was our second time here. Not nearly as good as the first. Good food but deteriorating service. My entrée order never went through and waitress couldn't find out what was happening. We never asked for special water and were charged for 4 bottles. Band is good but WAY too loud. No towels and malfunctioning hand dryer in men's room. On and on. Not at the top of our list to return. MANY similar reviews recently.
Perfect on so many levels! The menu contains a wonderful array of healthy and delicious options and the drink menu is equally amazing. We were celebrating a family birthday in a less pretentious setting that we all enjoyed... including our 3-year old grandson! We’ll be back!
What a wonderful experience my two girlfriends and I had at Green Soul. We were greeted warmly and the overall place was very cozy. Our waitress was attentive and very helpful as we try to figure out what to eat . She told us what was popular on the menu and what was spicy, which was good because I don't like spicy food.
We started with a delicious beet salad, edamame(which were nice and hot). We also had parsnips/carrot fries, I wasn't fond of them but my girlfriends loved them. The waitress walked us through our entrees which was a chicken dish, portobello tacos, and I had salmon which ended up being too spicy and a tad dry for my taste. The waitress was kind enough to bring me a more favorable chicken dish which I enjoyed. Even though we were full we wanted to try dessert. We had sweet potato donuts and vanilla soy ice cream which I turned up a nose but my waitress assured me it was a great taste, Boy was she right, that soy ice cream was smooth and flavorful.
All the wait staff were very accommodating making sure to let us know when our food would be ready and if everything was alright. They even had small chit-chat with us that made us feel special.
There was entertainment that night, a young lady on guitar and saxophonist, they had a nice mellow sound that we enjoyed. Our table was right in front of them but the music was not overly loud.
If you want to have a real nice dining experience I recommend Green Soul, a true soulful culinary delight.
I love the service, food and live Jazz music!
Second time here for lunch. Had the sweet potato, black eyed pea soup and impossible burger. Service was good and everyone was friendly. Worth a try!
I made an 8:15 reservation but a table was not ready for us when we arrived. We told the hostess we had tickets for a 9:30 show, but could not get seated, waited for 30 minutes and left.
The menu looked good, but we were disappointed we could not wait to eat.
The server was a bit overwhelmed with our large group, but we did have four extra people that we didn't have a chance to report to the restaurant. I appreciate how they made room for us. The atmosphere is nice. The food is fresh and delicious and the performer was amazing. One of my new favorite spots to ear. My Aunt wanted to send back her food because she said it was too salty or spicy or whatever and the server questioned it because my aunt took two bites of it. That move on the server's part was in bad taste. We were a table of 14. Why are you questioning one guest? Are you serious? But other than that one incident, it was still a rather pleasant dinner.
Unfortunately we were very unlucky and came on a night it was much too busy. We waited 30 min to be seated and 95 min before we got any food. We had to leave before our entire meal was delivered since we had tickets to a show. The wait staff was very nice and the manager covered the check and also gave us a gift card. From what we tasted food and drinks were good but definitely not worth that type of wait.
Lovely restaurant made even better by the chic modern design and live music. The food and drinks were fantastic. Only downside was the service - one meal never showed up (eventually it did). They did a great job taking care of it and it was delicious when it did come. We will definitely give it another shot.
While Green Soul is a convenient choice if you're on North Broad Street for an event at the Met or Temple, the restaurant is not worth even a short trip for any other reason. In addition to being extremely uncomfortable (we needed to keep our coats on throughout dinner as the large garage doors are not insulated), the service was poor. Several items were "out of stock," even at 7pm on a Saturday night.
We are fortunate to have many other great restaurants in Philly, so skip this one and consider something else.
The food was delicious and the live music was AMAZING! Everyone needs to check out Green Soul! Also save room for dessert cause their sweet potato doughnuts were scrumptious.
Excellent customer service! Diverse and great atmosphere. Great music. Creative drink options.
Healthy and delicious food options!
The short menu of soups, salads, wraps, smoothies and so forth promises healthy eating at moderate prices. But don't let that deter you: the stuff actually tastes good. Nice for a "splurge" lunch.
I agree with Craig LaBan. This very pleasant new spot just off North Broad Street is a welcome addition to the restaurant scene in this area. The service was outstanding, attentive but not cloying. The ambience was pleasant. The menu was interesting and full of healthy but filling choices. My friend and I shared the veggie burger and the shrimp taco choices. She felt the veggie burger had too much barbecue sauce; it was served with a nice green salad. The shrimp taco was delicious. I would definitely order it again. On my next visit, I'd like to try the turkey chili, and perhaps check out the dessert menu. The mildly mint flavored iced tea was delicious. Why didn't I give it 5 stars? Only because the chairs are not very comfortable and because I have a feeling that if the restaurant were full, the noise level would be an issue, but since we were there for lunch, it was pleasantly quiet and we were able to enjoy our conversation as well as the food!
I absolutely love love Green Soul. I plan on coming back more often.
Thanks for having us
Went for the first time and my meal was awesome. Came in 15 mins before close (which isn’t ideal) dressed down and I still got phenomenal service. Sarah was great. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. They use minimal plastic and stand for good causes like donating money to Flint, Michigan’s water crisis. Ambiance was very quiet and cozy. They didn’t have a wine I wanted to try but the cider was REALLY good, super crisp and refreshing. All in all, good experience.
We were a large party of 9 people and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and the service was great.
The night we were there they hosted a city council campaign rally in tje dining room. No one gave us notice or an option to change dates. Could not hear ourselves over the socialist mantra on the speaker system. The snacks we delightful from the menu - the entres were both so mediocre neither of us finished them. All we wantes to was get out of there. Avoid this place except for a drink or a snack. Dinner is a bust.
My sister took me there, and I absolutely loved it.
