When I arrived I was a bit disappointed because our table was not ready and the host scrambled to prepare our table even though we had reservations. After waiting for about 10 minutes for our table to be ready we ended up being seated outside. The initial disorganization made me apprehensive, but our waiter and food made up for it.
The wait staff was patient with us as we were a group out for ladies brunch catching up and took a while to get our orders together. We all enjoyed our food. We started with the beignets and maple donuts. To me nothing compares to authentic New Orleans beignets, but these were still good. Both the beignets and donuts came out hot and fresh. The portions for the orders were more than enough and very flavorful. I definitely recommend their brunch and will for sure come back to try lunch.
Bacon Maple Donuts, what more is there to say?!? Those were a great ending to our wonderful 1st visit here. Don't miss the mac and bacon and cheese, as well as the Parmesan Portobello Fries!
Spacious interior, varied menu with lots of healthy options, attentive service. I had the ancient grains bowl which was nice if maybe a tad bland. Friend had BLT which he enjoyed. All in all, a welcome addition to the dining choices at Paseo.
This was my 3rd visit. The first two were great, but this time, the service was terrible! Which is surprising since I first went when they opened and was impressed with the excellent customer service. That was for lunch. Second time, I went for happy hour. Again, great service. My most recent visit on Friday was to celebrate a good friend’s birthday. The host (man) had an attitude. I made the reservation 3 wks ago, specifically requesting for a booth. He pointed at a half booth squeezed between two other booths/tables. I asked if I could have the other booth (which I sat before with only 2 and 3 in our party) and he said that those are for 5 people. It was 11:10 am, a Friday, the place was NOT full with just one other table with 2 people. He again said that our table has already been “pre-assigned”. I waited for my friend with the birthday to arrive to see if she was ok with the seating and she wasn’t because of the lack of privacy. The host did end up giving us the booth and acted like he was doing us a favor. Service was slow during our entire stay. We had to flag 3 people for water and coffee refills before the manager finally came to help us.
Food is good; ambiance is very nice; location is convenient, but the service sucks! I live in Pasadena. I’m a foodie and go out a lot. There are a LOT of restaurant choices in my neighborhood. The food at Great Maple - Pasadena is moderately priced but I value service, so until the service at Great Maple - Pasadena improves, I recommend people try out other Pasadena restaurants with great service AND good food (same price range) such as Nick’s, Paul Martin’s or the newly opened The Arbour on Lake. Plus there are tons of eateries in Old Town.
It was a good place for girlfriends
Good location and offers a nice selection of meats and vegetables. Beer and wine menu is decent.
Food was good- spicy fried chicken sandwich, bacon &egg potato salad, corn, fried portobello mushrooms, wedge salad and most delicious was the chocolate donut sundae !
All the food was good.
Service wasn’t great, we waited quite awhile for our drinks, server didn’t check in on us, he made the experience not so great.
We are willing to go back and hope for service that fits the bill.
Had reservations but wasn't seated until 35 minutes after the reservation time. Very slow bussing staff to the point where the hostess started to clear off a table as it was OUR table that needed to be cleared. Food and drinks took an extremely long time to come out as well with no apologies from our server for the wait. Not sure if they were short staffed, but it sure felt like it. Cute restaurant but the service this weekend was unacceptable!
Made reservations for 11:45, got seated at 12:20. What is the point of having them in the first place? For Great Maple, I'll never know. After putting in a drink order for a bottle of wine--easy right?--we didn't get it until 20 min later. Food--appetizers and all--came all at once, 1 hour later! Server was amicable, but not attentive. I believed he came by once to ask how everything tasted when we had JUST gotten our food. Over all, food was nothing to boast about or refer friends and family to. I guess a lot of that weighs on the 3-hour "brunch".
This was our first time coming here. We were incredibly pleased. The food is absolutely delicious, with a perfect presentation! We ordered the Artisan Toast, Seasonal Scramble, French Toast Logs, and the Beignets! Everything was delicious! I recommend sitting inside to thoroughly enjoy the ambiance.
We were disappointed by Great Maple. The food was good but the poor service detracts from the overall value of the experience.
The bar was understaffed. Even though we were standing right in front of the bartenders and patiently waiting for eye contact they never acknowledged us. We had to get their attention (more than once) to order our drinks.
The hostess desk was overwhelmed. To pick up the slack and seat people one of the hostesses started bussing tables. We also had to remind them twice that we had arrived for our reservation.
The waitress was overwhelmed. It certainly looked like she was the only waitress for 1/2 of the outdoor seating area. She was nice and helpful but very busy. We had to send back a cocktail and that took forever.
Food took 45 mins to arrive.
I had the turkey bolognese and others had brick chicken and chicken and dougnuts.
All good, but due to the service not worth the prices.
Overall, the restaurant was understaffed for a Saturday night. Everyone was running around like a chicken with their heads cut off. Many of the staff were nice but they just couldn't keep up.
A busy restaurant that is understaffed usually equates to poor management.
I hope they get their act together - it had great potential (and the food was good) but we won't be going back for a longtime.
I had a reservation at 6:45. We arrived a little early and checked in with the hostess. She said, "Ok, you're all checked in. We can't seat you right now, but we'll seat you a little closer to your reservation time." So after waiting for about 20 minutes, which ended up being 10 minutes after the reservation time, we went back and checked with the hostess. She said, "Oh you checked in already. Ok, I'll seat you." She said this as though it was our responsibility to come back after we had already checked in. It was a Saturday night and it was crowded, so I understand that the kitchen was a little backed up, so the service was slow. My friend and I both found that our food was good, but not worth the wait or the price. We probably would have been happier at the Islands upstairs.
This was our 3rd time here. However, third time was not the charm. First visit was good, with new combinations we had not tried before. Second visit was good but did not have the portabello mushroom fries we had liked so much the first time. This third time found the restaurant extremely crowded and noisy. Sat right on top of the table next to us, and could not hear each other talk. Service was very slow. Found the mushroom sauce to be very spicy this time. Sandwiches were extremely salty. Chicken sandwich was also very spicy. Had several drinks delivered to us that were not ours, as staff was not communicating well, and running into each other. Clientele were extremely varied and some were wearing shirts with offensive language. It was so noisy inside that we tried to rush thru our meal to get out of there. If we come back it will only be during the weekdays, as it was way too busy and loud on a Saturday night.
Service is superb, everything was nice and venue is relaxing
The food is ok —had a BLT and way too much bread.
Enjoyed dining on the patio during our recent visit to Pasadena. Everything was fantastic and we will definitely dine here again next time we are in LA.
Food was decent.
Very Good food, great Happy Hour! Very attentive staff
I think this place has the potential to be better. I went in for lunch at around 2:30 on a Sunday and they ran out of portobello fries. Also, the waitresses kept apologizing because the service was so slow, which I know was not their fault, but rather the fault of their poor management who scheduled far too few waiters and waitresses for a WEEKEND.
Had to wait 35" past my reservation to be seated, then another 10" to order drinks. 15" after that we went to the bar to find our drinks waiting to be picked up. Tried ordering food at the bar and wound up leaving without eating almost 90 minutes after my 830 pm reservation. I've never witnessed more incompetence from well meaning staff in my life! Don't bother with this place.
The food was just okay. We ordered two appetizers, deviled eggs, and the cauliflower hash and both were basic. Nothing to be excited about. The hash didn't seem like a hash as the cauliflower was served in big chunks and it was soggy. The entres we ordered were white fish, but they were out of it, so we ended up with salmon. Also ordered was the wedge salad with pulled chicken. The salmon was okay, dry though. The salad was soggy and had too much dressing and was not served cold but rather tasted kind of warm or as if it had been sitting for a while before serving.
This was my second visit as I felt I would give it a second chance. The first visit was also not very good. The food was just okay, but not worth the money spent. The ambiance was nice and the decor of the restaurant was good. The service was good too! I will not be going back again as there are so many great places in Pasadena to choose from.
We had to wait a little to get our table. The restaurant was busy and we waited a long time for the food. The pork ribs are a little undercooked, not as tender as expected.
We waited so long for the waiter to take our order and waited awhile for our meal. By the time it came we lost our appetite.
Food was great, it was very noisy inside the restaurant
Had issues with the reservation. Hostess originally thought we were on wait list. Food took a long time. Waitress went and checked on it a few times. We got soup an appetizer and Salad. Salad didn’t come with chorizo like it was supposed to. And waitress didn’t validate parking correctly. Overall had some service issues. Food was delicious though.
Overall experience was "Good"
Portobello mushroom fries were outstanding
White fish with tomatoes were delicious
Bacon mac and cheese were OK
pork ribs were delicious
salad was good
Overall the night's dining was good.
Our 1st visit and will be back - exceptional service and food!
The food was great, the service was good and the atmosphere was not too noisy.
Wife's Brick Oven Chicken was delicious, son's Steakhouse Burger was good but my Rib Eye didn't have much flavor aside from the sweet sauce that I didn't care for and my other son requested chicken on side but it was cut up and mixed with his pasta. Otherwise we enjoyed ourselves.
Great service. Good food and large portions.
It was our first time at the restaurant and everything was terrific. One of the dishes came out late, and the manager then delivered it and informed us there would be no charge for that dish and that dessert would be on the house. Great customer service! We will definitely return soon.
First time for dinner at Great Maple. Have been here for brunch twice and was very pleased. Server was very good but the kitchen did not send out the dishes for our party of 6 at the same time. The bbq short rib sandwich was dry and there wasn’t a hint of the horseradish that was in the description. The portobello fries and aioli was awesome. My favorite drink there is the “Slightly Impaired” and it was as good as usual, but again the bar sent out drinks for 2 people and it was several minutes before the rest of the group got drinks. There just seemed to be a lack of flow like something was just a touch off. All in all it was good. Wish we just had appetizers and drinks though. Tried the beignets and lemon curd, not bad just not great, beignets were way too large.
My friend arrived 5 minutes after me and was told that our reservation didn't exist, even though I had just checked in before her. The hostess was about to seat her at another table when I saw her and called her over. It took a while for anyone to take our orders, but the food, when it came, was good. There's maybe a little too much bacon for my taste, and a lot of the choices seem to have some kind of sweet factor involved , but my friend really enjoyed it. We each ordered a second glass of wine, at which point the waitress told us that they were out of wine glasses. It was 6:30 p.m. On a Thursday night. Not sure how that was even possible. All in all, I think I'd probably try to find a new place before heading back to Great Maple.
Must order the maple bacon doughnuts for the table! The breakfast burrito was massive, came with potatoes - worth the price. The food was delicious but disappointed with the patio service. It took at least 15 minutes to receive our mimosas, and a bit longer at the end of our meal to get a waiter to check on us/ bring the bill. The table next to us had the same issue with their drinks. It was a busy Sunday, but our table could have been turned over at least 20 minutes earlier than it was.
We enjoyed our evening very much. The food was excellent, and the service was good. The down side was the noise level. A little too noisy for conversation at a normal speaking level.
Great ambiance however the food was below par. We ordered appetizers and as the words left our mouths it was served to us. One would think that this is good service but the server himself said that it was for another table which made me think that they sent it back. We ordered the grilled cheese appetizer and it came to us cold and with hardly any cheese in it. Our main entree also lacked flavor. Overall our experience was not good enough to return again or to recommend to anyone coming to the area.
We were a party of 4 and had never been to this restaurant before. Frankly I have never written a review before, but this was a very poor experience. We waited such a long time for our first drinks from the bar that we finally asked for them again. I have some food allergies which I explained to the server, who said he talked with the kitchen, but then I was served a salad with cheese on it. After a very long time he came with another salad, explaining that they ran out of balsamic vinagrette. (How can that even happen?) The bread was certainly not artisan french bread as the menu said, and the french dip was frankly not even good (we all order the french dip!) We also waited a long time for dessert. Our very unpleasant experience has determined that we will not return to Great Maple. Even though they have good fries.
For all the hype and crowds this is an average restaurant. Our waiter was nice, but overwhelmed. We got water right away, but it took 15 minutes for him to take our order. I ordered a drink. Our deviled egg appetizer was tasty. But just as were digging into the appetizer, another waitress brought out our entrees. Still no drink. We were unable to flag down out hyper-busy waiter. Halfway through the entree he asked us if we needed anything. I never got my drink, I said. He looked to the bar and said "it's still not up." What? You can get the entree out, but not the drink? My chicken was tasty. My husband said his chopped salad was fine. As a kid-friendly restaurant, we were sitting across from a crying, fussing child, which is not particularly what I had in mind for a Saturday "date night." The restaurant has high-energy, is very loud and the food is good, but not spectacular. It's kinda between a Cheesecake Factory and Houston's, with some signature dishes that involve donuts, friend chicken and bacon maple syrup.
One of the best in Pasadena, very creative menu, awesome aesthetics, great cocktails.
We would give this a second chance just because the ambiance is so nice and the location very convenient. There were many little things that contributed to the overall just ok ratings. The cocktails had old and dried up garnish, the waiter was slow and had an attitude when I ordered an appetizer for my entre, despite my husband ordering an entre that was the most expensive on the menu. The arugula on the grilled cheese plate looked like it had been sitting out for hours, as did the arugula in the grain salad we started. They brought our salad to the table next to us and they started to eat it when the waiter realized it was a mistake and then tried to give it to us. We had them make it fresh (or maybe they just put it in a new bowl) and they forgot to split it despite two reminders to do this. They are charging top dollar with average quality ingredients which isn't going to serve them well to survive in the competitive Pasadena market. Needs some better management in the kitchen and training of the wait staff. It is a bit loud in there as well, but the decor and overall space is very pleasing.
