My daughter and son-in-law have been to your resort several times and have heartily recommended it. When I found I needed a medical appointment at Wake Forest, I knew this was our chance to see for ourselves. We were so pleasantly surprised upon our arrival right through our departure. Our dinner in the dining room was excellent and service was exemplary. Our room was luxurious and comfortable in the Manor House. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer and roam the grounds and explore the other buildings and surrounding sights. We will return because our appetite was truly whetted! Kudos!
It’s a lovely place to visit with lovely southern charm. I’m sure if you stay at the hotel it’s an exceptional dining experience however if you’re looking for a really good meal there are better choices. Our server was sweet and lovely and made for a nice evening. They didn’t have the wine we ordered which was disappointing but the replacement was good. Watch for the “specials” list...there are none, it’s only the menu changes for the evening. Menu is limited and food was slightly cold. We were comped dessert for our anniversary, which was nice. All and all it was a nice experience but we have no need to go back.
Graylyn was great (as always) but beware that they had not received our reservation made (and confirmed) through Open Table. We've done reservations to Graylyn through this site before without issue, but their staff said they have been having problems. I recommend Graylyn but suggest calling for reservations!
Front desk staff sat us since they couldn’t find a server to do it. No hostess? Front desk clerk didn’t know where to seat us even though only two tables were occupied out of six, but in fairness it wasn’t his job. No hostess?
When we did get seated, I had to ask for the wine list. The food was very good, but service and ambiance lacking.
Overall it’s pretty meh. Nothing here is clearly marked from parking to where the restaurant is. It looks like they have set up some tables in different parts of the common areas of the hotel. The food was pretty good-pricey but certainly doable. Service was slow, our server was nice but inconsistent. However, there is apparently a mandatory 20% gratuity even for a table of two so it’s not surprising that no one is striving to provide an excellent experience. All in all, it’s a nice building but I wouldn’t come back.
We went for our anniversary dinner. We had very attentive staff, and even received a special dessert for our anniversary. We plan on going back each year to celebrate with them. The scenery is beautiful, and we had an entire porch to ourselves for the night.
The waitress was very nice but she needed better training. She did not ask for our drinks order when we sat down. When she did, the drinks took a good while to get there. The food was good but not necessarily fabulous as we had hoped.
The ambience was lovely - understated elegance. The service was pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. The food was delectable, with nicely-sized portions. Altogether, the experience was immensely enjoyable!
Service was great and so was the food! We arrived a little late due to traffic and they were very accommodating. It was a quiet, lovely dinner on a Friday night with two people who enjoyed the atmosphere immensely. Later we took a walk with a tour guide who gave us some history on the place. It was super relaxing and enjoyable. Will definitely go back.
It was a wonderful evening with my family , good food and good wine.
I never eat poultry in restaurants, but the chicken I had was a real chicken meat, like we have in Europe.
My husband did enjoy the file minion and it happens not so often.
Next time I will try fish and chips hopefully it will be delicious not grease that happens most of the time .
Thank you for your hospitality
Absolutely one of the best dining experiences in the Piedmont-Triad!!!
We had a wonderful time and it was very relaxing. We will be back and bring our friends.
The overall experience was a delightful surprise. I look forward to another visit next time I'm in the area.
For being in such a small atmosphere the service was terrible, it took an unnecessary amount of time for the waitress to get anything done. The other two couples in the room with us were extremely rude and were yelling across the room to talk to each other. We also did not expect an already 20% tip to be added to our bill, we were only a table of 2. Overall the good food doesn’t outweigh the bad experience we had and we will not be returning or recommend to anyone
Service was poor. Ordered bottle of wine when ordered cocktails. Wine came after the entree after us asking for it 2x. Plus automatically added 20% gratuity, much more than would have left based on quality of service
My family and I had a fantastic dining experience!! I highly recommend!!!!
Great place for a special occasion! Very intimate setting
We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at Graylin and our dinner was absolutely wonderful. The food, service and ambiance was exceptional! Highly recommended.
It made us feel like we were in Europe, five star. We will try the bar and grill next time.
Food, service, ambiance were all very good. We went to Graylyn to celebrate our fifteenth wedding anniversary. Emailed Graylyn and spoke to a Graylyn representative by phone to ensure special attention for my wife. Was assured the special occasion would be noted but got nothing. Very disappointed. However the manager on duty was empathetic and made our evening memorable. Good job by him and Graylyn.
We absolutely love the romantic nature of the venue and the very friendly staff at this inn and restaurant. For a special occasion is is the perfect getaway. If you are interested in history, there is a wealth of stories about this historic home, and you can easily slip right back into the roaring twenties...
It was unforgettable experience dining in such beautiful, romantic quiet atmosphere with the family that was visiting from europe. Food and service was excellent
Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
I will be back for any event.
warm regards olga
We were celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary and wanted a special dining experience. Graylyn was the perfect choice--beautiful setting, excellent food and service. We were even given a complimentary anniversary dessert!
We stayed at Graylyn and absolutely loved every aspect of this hotel and its restaurant. A couple next to us celebrated their anniversary. They were locals. This restaurant is charming and the grounds of Graylyn are exceptional.
They were a little pricey but gave us chocolate fudge for our Anniversary. Overall we loved it.
We had a wonderful visit and look forward to our next visit!!
They were catering a big wedding the same night. There was one server for all of the tables and little if any bus staff to help her. Needless to say the service was incredibly slow.
This is a fantastic place. The food and the service are wonderful. Strongly recommend!
Very disappointed. We seem to have been forgotten, and the food was mediocre, at best
My friends and I came to celebrate a birthday and we had a nice time, however, the food did take a few hours to get to the table. That was the only con we faced. Our waitress was super nice and even took some photos for us outside.
This hotel and its restaurant was unfortunately a big disappointment to me and my colleague while visiting NC. We have been looking forward to having dinner in this amazing and historically beautiful Estate. Unfortunately that is all that it is: beautiful grounds but our dining experience was not so pleasant. Our dinner napkins had a stale odor and both of our salads arrived at the table with dirt still on the vegetables. No real remorse or an apology from manager at all.
I would say make a trip to Print Works in Greensboro and dine on the patio. You may not have the lush green surroundings but you will be treated with utmost respect and have a wonderful experience and memorable meal.
Dining at Graylyn is such a "grand" experience combining a feast for the eyes and the palate. Their Asian salad is one of my favorites, and while I am not big on desserts, love their bread pudding.
I have enjoyed Graylyn for a family wedding followed by reception, dining with friends several times at Christmas, and now for a lovely date night. The staff is ALWAYS extremely gracious and the ambiance exquisite no matter the location. Just like being at home - ha!
5 star all the way including Staff....such a gem....Thanks to Allie for his continued conversation..made for good banter.
When booking this reservation I had listed that it was a birthday celebration yet there was no mention of it at the time of dinner. The wait staff was very pleasant, however, they started pouring the wrong wine for us as well as gave my soup to my husband with his salad and gave a duplicate of our bill to our friends instead of their own bill. There were also children running around our dining area as apparently the party they were with did not want them in their room. They even closed the doors in our room to contain them there.
Went for a special occasion with my wife. The ambiance and food were excellent. However, the service was beyond terrible: 15 minutes to get water on the table, 30 minutes to get bread, and 1 hr. 45 minutes to be served the entre! In total, it took 2 hrs. 15 minutes. During this time, the wait staff was not attentive and finally after 1 hr. 35 minutes said they were having a problem in the kitchen. Then, they had the audacity to add a mandatory 20% service charge.
I really enjoy the ambience of the restaurant the food was decent for the price I found was a little overpriced but not too badly high-end steakhouse level of price but OK food the beautiful house itself was amazing I will definitely go back if for nothing else than the view in the history
Beautiful grounds but just a boring restaurant with conference tables for dining. They cover the portable tables with table linens but that can’t mask the cold feeling you get here. There’s also no music and almost silence. Everyone whispers while dining. There were only 5 tables taken during this busy parents weekend which tellls me this is mainly a place to dine while you are staying here for business. Every where in Winston Salem was packed and has a wait list. We enjoyed it but wouldn’t go back.
Our waitress was fantastic. Our setting was superb. Otherwise a disappointment. The food was lacking in expertise or flavor. They need to step up their game to accomplish the business they are pursuing.
The entire experience was delightful. Graylyn grand and comfortable elegance were
equaled by the good food and personal attention by Lauren and other staff. Our night exceeded
We had a very good experience dining (and staying) at Graylyn. As some other reviewers have commented, the nature of the establishment is such that you may find yourself being among only a few other diners. We didn't mind this, as we were hoping for a relaxed, quiet evening, and Graylyn delivered that in flying colors. The food was excellent, and the waitress who served us was very friendly and attentive; but there was only one server that evening for the three tables (If I recall) present, so there was a fairly long wait between ordering and receiving our first course, refills, main course, etc. Again, not the fault of the waitress, likely just understaffed since it was a fairly slow evening. If you're impatient, that's the one caveat, but if you're looking to enjoy the company of the people with whom you're dining, take in an historic atmosphere, and enjoy a VERY well prepared meal, I'd highly recommend Graylyn.
