Ask any Italian-American what ‘gravy’ is, and they'll tell you it's the pasta sauce that their mothers and grandmothers cooked fresh every night. At Gravy Restaurant we take the same care, preparing our signature sauce every day using select tomatoes and locally grown herbs. The heart and soul poured into the preparation of traditional Italian-American dishes pairs with inspired modern twists and a focus on seasonal ingredients to define Gravy’s unique approach to this classic cuisine.

Gravy Ratings and Reviews
Worst experience ever which was a surprise. Waited 30 minutes after the time of reservation . They were out of bread. Food was cold. Service was worst I have had there. I know they can be better so was very disappointed. Probably because they know they will have the business no matter what.
Lackluster. I really want to love Gravy -the food is delicious and authentic italian, unfortunately the experience is not memorable. Again. We ordered the lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs and the chicken parm, all fresh, nicely flavored, with the spaghetti itself lukewarm, rather than hot. Garlic knots were not available, so we were served slivers of toasted buttered bread. 3 slivers. I thought a cornerstone for Gravy was the garlic knots. Not available at 6 pm, prime dinner time? A good Italian meal is finished with the bread used to soak up the remaining sauce while enjoying the end of the meal. Meager crusty slivers of bread do not serve a purpose other than an afterthought. The layered cannoli cake tasted stale and not edible for any of our guests. After we were delivered the check, the waitress was no where to be found, so we were unable to get a box for the tiramusa , which was worth bringing home. It's these continued, simple inconsistencies of service that trip up Gravy being a stand out, "we must return" kind of place. Overall the experience was disappointment.
The service was excellent as we celebrated a birthday. The food at Gravy is ALWAYS so fresh and delicious. It is a fun place to go and love that the menu is not pages and pages but you know anything you get will satisfy your palette and you will have excellent service.
First time to Gravy for lunch and they delivered just as they do for dinner. Staff was ready for the lunch crowd and very attentive to our large group, all while having a full restaurant and a private party downstairs! It was a first visit for all others in my party of ten and they all loved it! I did have to explain the meaning of "Gravy" to these Southern Belles who only understand brown gravy on meat and potatoes. I am confident they will be back to enjoy Gravy again.
Always appreciate a restaurant and staff that delivers when you take people who have never been! Keep up the good work.
Anniversary dinner. Ruined, and there are no “do-overs.” Asked for a table suitable for celebrating our special evening, and instead was seated right in front of the door. Every cold blast when the door opened hit us, and everyone leaving the restaurant managed to kick one leg of my chair. The waiter for the table behind us hit me in the back of the head, and leaned backwards into us to take a picture and we had to duck to keep from being head-butted. Another patron managed to pull my hair as he was exiting the building, not paying attention to where he was going, and large groups entering the restaurant thought it was appropriate to gather around and lean on top of our table as they waited 15-20 minutes for theirs. Awful, awful experience!!!!
Always pleased with Gravy! Great food in a wonderful atmosphere. I never thought I’d order spaghetti and meatballs at a restaurant, but you can’t go wrong with even a “simple” dish like spaghetti and meatballs. And, the kale Caesar salad is phenomenal! My favorite is the mushroom spinach rollatini, but the menu changes seasonally.
Eggplant Pie. What a wonderful dish. We had a party of four. Showed up early for a Saturday reservation, but got right in. The service was excellent. The waiter helped us choose a nice wine and everyone loved the food. For dessert, the Cannoli cake was the favorite.
We had a 6:30 reservation arrived a little early & were seated immediately . The restaurant immediately grabs you with an old world type charm . Not very big but perfect for a cozy dinner . My only con would be the table , small table for 2 that was wobbly which was very annoying . I wish we had of been seated in booth . When making the reservation booth seating was not listed as a choice . I will have to remember to add that as a special request next time. Our food was exceptional and arrived in timely intervals. We had the calamari for an appetizer, I had the lasagna for my dinner entree , my date had the spaghetti & meatballs. Portions are extremely generous . We both had enough to take home for lunch the next day . Everything was delicious . Our waiter was very friendly & helpful with our wine selection. By the time we finished , the place was pretty close to full . There is a great vibe in this restaurant . There is a parking garage right next door which was very convenient if there is no on street parking available . A great place & look forward to my next visit .
Each of the five diners ordered something different - one seafood, two meat entrees, one pasta and one vegetarian. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choices. We felt the cheese and meat tray was a little short on cheese, but had no other concerns. We'll definitely go again.
Three of us had dinner entrees—lasagna, chicken piccata and the braised lamb. No one was satisfied with their meal. The chicken was not tender; the lasagna was flavorless and the portion of lamb was too small. One person ordered the bruschetta and liked it very much. Not likely to go back again.
There were 6 of us dining there and after reading the prior reviews we were really looking forward to the experience. We were seated in the back and it was fairly quiet, although the music was a little loud, but as soon as the restaurant started to fill up it got very loud and we had a hard time communicating with each other. The food got mixed reviews. The bruschetta and salads were wonderful; the chicken parm was overcooked, the gnocchi was average, and the Sunday gravy was good except for the sausage, which was barely warm. Overall we were disappointed.
We had the salami board for our starter and they provided some bread knots. The salami board was an excellent starter while waiting for our main courses. Speaking of which I had the Chicken Parmigiana and my better half had the Seafood Risotto. I have to say, it was the best chicken parm I have ever had anywhere, and the Seafood Risotto was superb as well! We had wine, which they had a nice Italian selection, and also dessert. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and very helpful. He really knew the menu items well and answered all our questions. All-in-all, an awesome dinner night out in downtown Raleigh. We will definitely be going back. If you haven’t tried it, you need to… fantastico!!!
We have been to Gravy many times, but were disappointed with our visit on Friday night. Our server Emily was not very friendly. When we asked to wait to order until we had finished our appetizer, she stated "we will pace your dinner for you. You can order now." Then she proceeded to bring our salad immediately while we were enjoying the appetizer. Our pasta was lukewarm at best. You ran out of bread - no offer of a substitute. You were out of our favorite dessert - the Boudini. Overall a disappointing visit.
We had reservations for six on a Friday evening at 6 and were seated immediately. VERY busy evening for Gravy. Service was terrific. Food was very good. We did get one appetizer order that was not prepared to our liking and mentioned this to the Manager....were not charged for it. Great customer focus. Service was terrific....customer focused; responsive; and courteous. Restaurant was "packed" when we got there and "packed" when we left...but we received good and timely service. Great place for a casual visit and great food.
The calamari appetizer was tender and perfect. The chicken piccata was excellent, with the distinctive lemon flavor and saltiness of the capers. Oddly they serve it with rice, but are happy to serve with noodles on request. The garlic knots were light, salty, soft and wonderful.
We reserved a high-top table right by the window and it actually felt more spacious and private than anywhere else in the restaurant (which was still packed at 8:15pm). My husband had the lasagna which he thoroughly enjoyed, I had a kale caesar salad topped with shrimp--salad was amazing with crunchy kale, a little spice and perfect light dressing (I asked for light, so I imagine it was less than they normally serve, but perfect for me), and shrimp was under-seasoned and slightly overcooked. We shared crispy calamari and a complimentary garlic knot each. Beverage list was small, but enough options to find something to pair with your meal. We'll definitely go back!
was fine but uneven. Salami plate and arugula and garlic rolls fine. . Entrees came while we were still eating them. Chicken parma was authentic and hit spot while seafood ( minus no clams) was nearly eatable with little to savor. Cannolli cake was such a disappointment! Dry and bland. They were unable to scan my open table coupon!
My husband, his parents and I went to Gravy for his 37th Birthday. The Staff is super friendly and attentive and our waitress was great. A big negative was that our food came out cold....every single dish! The staff quickly remedied the situation which was nice. The food overall was ok. The risotto balls were great, but the rest of the dishes were just ehhh. My Mother-In-Law and I both ordered the bolognese and we both thought it was bland, not offensive, just bland. My husband and his father ordered the Family Gravy and both were underwhelmed. Overall, the staff, location and ambience are great....it’s the food that is average at best!
