My party did not find the menu appealing. The chicken piccata was uninteresting. The chicken tasted as if infused with water. The sauce was minimal.
The food was underwhelming, basic italian menu items were bland and mushy. The service was suboptimal. Will not come back.
My husband and I love this restaurant we’ve been eating here for years and will continue to.
We went for Father’s Day brunch and were disappointed to find that they had only three items on their “brunch menu” (egg platter, egg sandwich, shrimp and grits). The shrimp and grits were very smoky, shrimp was tough from being overcooked, peppers were mushy and I found it to be generally bland. The restaurant was totally empty which was kind of awkward. Our favorite dish, the gnocchi with truffle, is not on the lunch menu either.
It is a great place to go for dinner (though the quality of the food seems to be hit or miss) but we will not return for “brunch” and they should stop saying they serve it if they’re not going to offer a real menu.
This is my husband's favorite restaurant. We were able to get a reservation and they even accommodated our request to sit by the front window and people watch! Food and service was great! Thanks Gravy!
Great meal! Eggplant pie was fantastic. Will make this a regular on out list.
Good food but service was too fast. Entrees delivered before we were even half finished with our salads - a big pet peeve of mine.
My dish, spaghetti and meatballs, wasn’t the best - the pasta was stuck together and the meatballs were over cooked (hardened crust). Flavors were good but this clearly wasn’t consistent with past experiences.
Great little place. I dined with a few friends and we all had a delicious meal. The pastas are home made and all the ingredients are from local farms. Everything was fresh and delicious! The garlic knots they brought out were amazing!! Definitely worth a trip while in Raleigh.
Gravy was very friendly, nice menu and great service.
The risotto balls are the best thing about this restaurant. I have been a handful of times and have never been impressed by the pasta or sauce.
Been a fan of the Sunday meatball special for years now. Unfortunately things have changed for the worse. Waiter didn’t bring garlic bread knots to table.... don’t know why. Spaghetti was mush, over-cooked. Drenched in sauce. Suspect a lot of pecorino cheese involved here. Traditional Meatball was flavorless, mostly bread and appeared to be steam cooked as opposed to pan browned then baked. I’m Irish but I can prepare this dish infinitely better. Gravy is off the Sunday dinner list for us now.
Birthday Dinner for our daughter. Had a great time and a fabulous meal! .
We came to Gravy with a party of 7, none of which had ever been. Missy, our waitress was wonderful and made many helpful suggestions. Those of us who ordered from her suggestions loved our dinners and those of us who played it safe or went super risqué with choices didn’t care for their entrees as well. We ordered 3 apps to share, all three were wonderful. We also ordered a selection of deserts and really loved them. It was moderately priced and we all felt we got good value for the amount spent. We would definitely do Gravy again, though some of our orders would change based on server recommendations.
Outstanding! It was our first time there, and we'll definitely be back!
Our reservation was for 6:00 pm. We were greeted at the door and immediately seated. We explained to our server, Emily, that we had tickets for the symphony and had to be finished by 7:00. Unexpectedly, that evening was graduation for many of the high schools in Raleigh and Gravy was a favorite spot for many of the families celebrating their graduates. All of the staff at Gravy miraculously complied with our request. We all enjoyed a fabulous dinner with a few minutes to spare. I can not thank Emily and all of the staff enough for a wonderful evening. Thank you Emily!
Food was perfect. Our waitress, Emily, was friendly, attentive and helpful.
Appetizers and entrees we ordered were very good. I had the market fish dish and it was so good. I don't normally finish all my food but this time, I couldn't stop eating it. My dinner companion had the family gravy and he was very pleased. I cannot comment on all the desserts but I didn't care for mine. Everything else was near perfect.
Made reservations early in the day for a work event. Able to accommodate our larger group. Service was great and food was fantastic
Was in Raleigh for a long weekend trip for a triathlon event, and stopped at Gravy after the race on Sunday, early for dinner around 5:!5pm. The place was quiet and calm. Food was impressive . I enjoyed one of the rotating selection of Italian meats they had, had the yummy Kale Caesar salad (with shrimp added - 4 large shrimp), and the gnocchi. The "gravy" sauce on the gnocchi was a tomato-basil sauce they make their and it was delicious. They had the finishing touches of Parmesan cheese, and I had free garlic knots before the meal started. Pretty good Italian all-around. I would call it authentic for the most part, with some normal American spin on it. Service was great, as it should be when the place wasn't busy. Bought a bottle of their sauce to take home as well.
Food was delicious but for the amount paid, not a whole lot of it.
We used to love Gravy and would come back often for the eggplant pie, but the past two times we've gone, we have noticed the food quality noticeably decline. The eggplant pie is almost unrecognizable -- far fewer layers than it was a few years ago. The risotto was especially bland. The staff is friendly and the location is great. However, because of the food, we won't be going back.
First time at Gravy and it was better than I expected. The food was amazing and portions perfect! Service was great too. Overall 5 stars!!!
Great little Italian spot in Downtown Raleigh. Would definitely recommend the Chicken Parm. I felt like the place had a nice ambiance and relaxed feel. The food was great but not every part of it. I would say food is definitely good, but not beyond your imagination.
Not great, which was contrary to what I had heard. Food was almost warm, but not quite. Sauce tasted like a can of crushed tomatoes. Sausage was hard on the inside. They sat us by the kitchen entrance even though we made a reservation for 6 well in advance for a birthday celebration. I had been waiting to try this restaurant based on good feedback but was very disappointed.
Great food, great service!
Gravy was a great spot for Italian food and the ambience was amazing. Our server, Charlotte, was very nice and helpful and the food was spectacular (especially the ravioli)
For brunch they were out of Bloody Mary Mix and mint to make mojitos, but the waitress was super considerate about food allergies and took a personal interest to make sure it was all good for us.
The atmosphere was pleasant and the music was good.
We are planning to go back for dinner and try the wine.
Delicious and memorable Sunday at Gravy! Thank you
Always great food!! We were seated right away (it was later than usual dinner crowd) service was attentive. I had the eggplant: paper thin slices with the incredible gravy....a masterpiece! Love having leftovers to take home. When you can’t decide where to go... Gravy is always a great spot!!
The eggplant pie and Casio y Pepe were wonderful. Tiramisu was excellent as well.
Convenient location for walking around afterwards. Plenty of parking $5 lots
I certainly felt out of place seeing as I was there for a weeknight dinner, nothing special. However the food was amazing and the price was good for the level of food we received. I just would reserve this place for fancier or more serious occasions than a random craving for Italian. Service was wonderful. The market seafood that my boyfriend got blew my pasta out the water, it was 100% the highlight of the evening.
The meal was entirely adequate
I enjoyed the food, but they were a little slow at getting to my table. I was there about 15 minutes before my guests and no one served me or asked if I wanted water. My guests arrived and they still took 10 to 15 minutes before we had to say something to the hostess. I was really disappointed. The food made up for it a little. I may give them another try, but I’m not sure.
Amazing pasta and service. I forgot my left overs and the waiter ran across the street to give them to me!
Everything was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back.
Last minute craving for Italian food led us to Gravy for the first time in a while. Sipped on handmade cocktails, selected some cheese and fruit from from the Salami Board menu (the firm cheddar with mustard seeds in it is amazing), and ordered some entrees. Fun spot to sit and chat, Gravy was moderately busy, but the restaurant isn't so large that the noise becomes overwhelming. I had the Tagliatelle Bolognese which was very good, but my wife had the Gnocchi which was to die for. Service was A+. Highly recommend trying this place out, especially for a late night craving.
Enthusiastic and supportive staff helped make the Mother's Day brunch a pleasure. Not an overly sized space which makes.it ideal for small.groups that plan ahead.
I am a New Yorker At heart, one of a few restaurants I like to eat and enjoy a delicious dinner. One of my go to places downtown Raleigh. The eggplant parmigiana is my favorite At Gravy. I would recommend this restaurant, the sauce and pasta is excellent . I will be back soon!
We absolutely loved our meals and experience at Gravy. We loved the risotto ball appetizer, gnocchi, lasagna, and salads. Highly recommend!
