Ask any Italian-American what ‘gravy’ is, and they'll tell you it's the pasta sauce that their mothers and grandmothers cooked fresh every night. At Gravy Restaurant we take the same care, preparing our signature sauce every day using select tomatoes and locally grown herbs. The heart and soul poured into the preparation of traditional Italian-American dishes pairs with inspired modern twists and a focus on seasonal ingredients to define Gravy’s unique approach to this classic cuisine.

Gravy Ratings and Reviews
This place was AWESOME!!!! The food was tasty and oh my goodness I didn’t have to wait long to get it. This was my first visit and I recommend this place for any type of occasion. I will definitely dine here again. This place definitely gets 2 thumbs up from me.
My husband and I chose Gravy for a fun date night dinner. We enjoyed everything we were served. We started out with the duck meatballs, which were the best meatballs either of us had tasted. The cherry sauce was an extra fun touch. The garlic knots were super to soak up the extra cherry sauce. My local green salad was fresh and yummy. I chose mushroom gnocchi with fried chicken added on top. Myhusband had lasagna. We basically ate off of each others plates. Everything was delicious, warm and fresh. For dessert the budino was a fun first for us. We will be back to Gravy, that is for sure!
Gravy is a charming, cozy, intimate restaurant with an innovative menu. The menu is on the small size, which to me means fresh and readily available, plus there are several specials and a decent wine list. The appetizer muscles were plump and perfectly cooked and swimming in a delectable garlic sauce. The bass entree was succulent, and I loved the vegetarian mushroom gnocchi. There was not a television in sight, and the ambiance was just right for conversation.
Had high expectations going in but unfortunately, Gravy won't meet my top Italian places to go to in Raleigh. First and foremost, the service was great. No complaints there. However, the baked brie appetizer had no flavor (and I love brie!) and it was nearly $16 for just lasagna. High price and the tables in the middle sat very close together. I was looking forward to a romantic evening and ended up mostly hearing the conversations on both sides of me. I think there are much better italian places out there.
We enjoyed eating at Gravy. It is in a great location downtown, and the ambiance inside is very cool. The food was great, and the service was fantastic. My only complaint (minimal) was that the salami and cheese trays we ordered came out at the same time as the main course, which I found odd.
I've given this restaurant two tries now, and they failed at providing a hot meal. On our first visit my pasta was served cold, and the second time it was served luke warm, returned it to be hotter, and it came back not much hotter. It's surprising that the kitchen is close to the tables and the food is served that cold. Our friend's pasta was rubbery - like it was over cooked, then reheated and served. Will not be recommending or going back to Gravy. There are many other Italian restaurants in the area that serve pasta just as good, and served hot.
I would not recommend this restaurant for restaurant week! We could have had more food ordering off the regular menu! Don't pay $25 per person! My husbands dish-spaghetti with sweet sausage-was a very small portion. His app was tiny-mozzarrella with tomato and balsamic drizzle. His dessert was laughable-fried dough? more like 4-5 wonton looking sticks. My eggplant pie was good and cheesecake was good but you don't save any money or get your moneys worth at this restaurant with the fixed price.
Also, even though our reservation was early-5:15- and there were booths available, they would not let us sit in one stating that we would have had to add the request for a booth in our Open Table reservation in the optional request area. I've never had to do that with any other restaurant-request a booth online when there were ones available. The restaurant said they were all reserved but they remained open the whole time we were there.
The service was great, and most of the food was as well. The chicken with my chicken parmigiana was pretty tough, almost burnt maybe? It was something that was also ok the restaurant week menu so possibly they had made up extra ahead of time. Everything else was fantastic though.
Server was great - but the food was lacking - their ‘homemade’ sausage in their Gravy dish tasted like an eraser - dried out and chewy. And it was on very basic small round pasta with a boring red sauce. The app calamari was ok - nothing special though. I had such high hopes for the restaurant because we liked the atmosphere and service but just not the food.
We had a lovely time at Gravy, and it has become one of our favorite restaurants. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary, and they made it very special for us. Our server was outstanding--really went out of her way to make us feel welcome and well taken care of. And our food was outstanding--the charcuterie board for an app was a nice touch, my winter sangria was delicious, and we cleaned our plates with our entrees--chicken piccata and eggplant pie. The ambiance is warm and cozy. It was just a super evening and we would highly recommend this restaurant!
