Housed in a former tomato packing warehouse in the historic Ivy City neighborhood of DC, Gravitas is a tasting menu destination from chef-owner Matt Baker. The menu, which changes with the seasons, draws inspiration from local produce and products, while the industrial-modern space (read: original brick and steel beams) boasts antique, floor-to-ceiling windows, which provides for an airy and whimsical dining experience.

Guests can enjoy a four course ($135 per person) or six course ($185 per person) Chef's Tasting menu in our main dining room. Our three course Taste of Gravitas is offered from 5-6pm in our main dining room, or all night at the bar or in the Conservatory.

Enjoy our rooftop, the Conservatory at Ivy City, as an experience by itself or as a stop before or after your dining experience. Conservatory reservations are available to book through our website.

A gratuity of 22% will be added to all parties of 6 or larger.

Vine a celebrar mi cumpleaños y me la pasé muy bien. El ambiente fue bastante agradable, aunque la comida me quedo a deber un poco en cuestión de sabor y presentación. No fue mala en lo absoluto, pero creo que mi expectativa era mayor para mi tercer restaurante Michelin. Aún así la amabilidad del equipo de cocina y de servicio me hicieron sentir bastante apreciado, el detalle del postre de cumpleaños y que la Chef se acercara a la mesa fue un plus a nuestra experiencia. Espero volver pronto para una segunda buena impresión.

Every one from waitresses to waiters and sommelier were very courteous and accommodating. The beverage director Judy was very knowledgeable and creative about cocktails. We tried this drink called “liquid Gold” made with Safran and rose water which made it very unique. We were celebrating our anniversary and they made it special. I would highly recommend trying the food at this place if you are interested in a prefix tasting menu.

We were seated upstairs because of condensation droplets on the first floor. The upstairs temp was barely OK. Bathroom was an inferno. All of the food from the canapes through dessert was outstanding both presentation and flavor. Our server was just OK. We had to ask to have the butter refilled 3 times. New silverware was not placed in a timely manner and the runners were waiting with our hot dishes. Not good. Sommelier was helpful.

My wife and I had dinner at Gravitas to celebrate our Fourth Wedding Anniversary and the team hit it out of the park. We splurged on the six course tasting menu. I had the wine pairing and my wife had a non-alcoholic cocktail because she is expecting. The team accommodated a dairy allergy for my wife as well as the necessary accommodations for pregnancy without any fuss. The food was fantastic and we had a wonderful time. I particularly enjoyed the chicken main dish. My wife had the wagyu and after a small bite I can confirm that her rave review was spot on. The meal was a splurge for us on a special occasion, but we had an amazing time and found the splurge worth it. Luckily if you want to economize there are plenty of options, so even if your budget is tight I’d recommend Gravitas. What a gem! We’re so happy we spent our special evening with the Gravitas team. Highly recommend!

Amazing experience. I cant recommend this place enough. It’s inspired, well done, a slightly refined flavor of edgy, and a great celebration of culinary art in a comfortable environment. Think Per Se light if it was in a warehouse and jeans were allowed.

Wonderful food -- one of the best meals we've had during our Michelin explorations in the DC area. We had the chef's table experience and I would have preferred a less drawn-out experience -- service seemed a bit slow, sometimes with long waits between courses, and we were at the restaurant for 4.5 hours. But every dish was really excellent, both the regular omnivore menu and the vegetarian tasting that one of our group had. The vegetarian dishes were every bit as creative and interesting as the omnivore dishes, not just "pale copies" as you sometimes get. The wines selected for the wine pairing were also delicious, appropriate, and interesting. Overall a very enjoyable experience! (Just be careful where you sit -- there are glaring lights across the street that shine directly into your eyes if you sit along the benches to the left of the restaurant.)

😊 Happiness! We celebrated my sweet wife's birthday there on Wednesday night, being the last reservation of the evening and not only were they expecting us at 8:15pm, but they remembered all of the little nuisances I mentioned in my Open Table request (fresh purple flowers from their garden, her name, occasion and type of flavors). The food was even more nuisanced, with 24 different fresh vegetables from their roof top garden (pic#2), tasty gazpacho, chicken and lobster (pic#4), etc. A surprise also was the Bedlam vodka recommended by the Sommelier, a brand marketed by the singer Jason Derulo. We would recommend Gravitas mostly, clearly, not surprisingly, for the food. We would return, for the feeling!

The food was innovative and very delicious. The service was excellent and the ambiance was warehouse chic. I deducted a point for the rather gross 🤢 bathroom. An updated powder room and regular cleaning will take this restaurant over the top.

I really enjoyed the tasting menu and the service was really outstanding. I highly recommend coming to visit this establishment. After dinner a visit to the rooftop bar was so nice to relax and enjoy another delicious cocktail.

From start to finish, the staff was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable making our special night out all the more memorable. Tuna Sashimi and the Tile and Ratatouille were standouts. The Johnnie Walker cocktail was very creative and a personal favorite. Worthy of its star.

There were some hints of racism here. I made a reservation for my birthday at Gravitas. Upon arrival, there wasn't anyone at the host stand, but a man walked up fairly quickly. He asked for our name and struggled to find our reservation, while he explained his hostess just left. He asked if we made the reservation on OpenTable....I said yes...and then he asked, "are you here for Gravitas for the 5 course menu?" At the time I couldn't hear him so I thought he was asking if we requested to sit inside, but my fiancee explained what he said, and I'm like....isn't that the only option? So we go in, the vibe is nice. There's a mix of music playing in the background (they played Ceelo at some point, which was pretty ironic given the experience we were having). Our server comes over fairly quickly. We get drinks and so far everything is fine. Then he asks if we have any questions about the menu. I noticed "line" on the menu...I'm not familiar with line, but the preparation sounded like fish. I still wanted to confirm and get more of an explanation so I ask if he can tell me what the line is. He explains, it's like flounder but better, yada yada. I tell him I'm good, that was my only question. Then he says...."are you sure? There's nothing else that looks unfamiliar to you?" I thought the word choice was a bit condescending, but we tried our best to try to ignore the microaggressions in order to enjoy a nice dinner on my birthday. Lastly, nobody said happy birthday or even wrote happy birthday on the dessert plate or anything. Oh and the food was good but not amazing. I feel like for the price that should've been the most amazing meal I've ever had but the sashimi was the best thing I had. And I probably could've done without a course or two.

The tasting menu was fantastic and service was decent. In hindsight, I should not have ordered the wine pairing, as it was quite pricey and I think the cocktails would have been better. Minor thing is that small specs of insulation kept falling from the ceiling, probably from the overhead air duct.

Gravitas was good - not outstanding. We found the fixed menu somewhat limited; the service and ambiance were ok. Some of the dishes were very good (tuna starter), others were just average (pork belly). Portions were on the small side - even considering this was a 5 course menu. Overall, it did not meet our expectations, both as a Michelin rated restaurant, and particularly in value. We asked for two bottles of some of the lowest priced wines and our bill went way north of a $1K for 4 people.

Celebrating Father’s day…chefs tasting menu was phenomenal. Staff was so attentive…from the the hostess, sommelier, waitstaff and chef. Food was exceptional…beautiful presentation and delicious. Wine selection was also wonderful. A very memorable experience.
