In the heart of Brookline's Washington Square, Grassona's Italian is convenient to many local colleges. We are a quick hop from BC, BU, Simmons, and Emmanuel, halfway along Beacon street between Kenmore and Cleveland Circle.
The food was good. The broccoli rabe was delicious and the cocktails were very good . The pastas were good but not exceptional. The ambiance is lovely.
My sister and I had the best Thanksgiving experience here! The service was impeccable—we were seated immediately (a few minutes before our reservation) and were swiftly brought water and drink menus and shortly after, some amazing rolls and the world’s best butter. Everyone was very kind and attentive the entire night. The food was so good: the turkey was so delicious and paired great with the thick gravy, Brussels sprouts and bacon were the perfect flavor, mashed potatoes and stuffing were second to none. We had a great time as the space was very comfortable and we had plenty of room at our table, and were not rushed at all. Lastly, we were both very happy with dessert—my sister had the pumpkin pie and I had the apple spice. So good with the heavy whipped cream. All leftovers were nicely bagged for us, including the leftover wine. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer Thanksgiving dinner!
We very much enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal but would have liked a slight pause with our cocktails/appetizer before the main meal was served. The food was delicious.
Great service, friendly atmosphere and set thanksgiving menu was good. Food wasn’t as hot as I like but since it was thanksgiving I’m not unhappy overall.
Fabulous Thanksgiving dinner with great service -made us feel at home. Everything was outstanding including the fried cauliflower entree for my vegetarian daughter - made us all want to become vegetarians. This may be our new family tradition!
We had a great time! Excellent service and delicious food. Will definitely be back many more times!
Delicious food and a great wine list. We always feel welcomed here. A great neighborhood restaurant!
wonderful food and a vegan/vegetarian menu.. highly recommend !!
Good food and service at reasonable prices.
Lasagna and lamb raft outstanding. Mushroom sugo was a little monotonous. Wines excellent. Needs some sound absorption on ceiling. Great service. I would definitely go back and enjoy it!
We had an excellent time. The staff couldn’t be friendlier, the food was very good, the beverage selection was fun and the ambience felt like Italy.
The food was disappointing and the dining room was full of smoke when we were eating. He service was terrible, including a cook who brought my children’s food to the table in a revealing tank top who looked like he had not bathed in a week. I do not recommend this restaurant.
we have eaten at grassona's many times
it was clear that you were short handed
we did not get the salad we ordered, but, you were so busy we ate it anyway(and it was good)
but, we will certainly be back
it has always been good
The food and service was exceptional; the lamb in particular was our favorite. No reason this place shouldn't be just as packed as Barcelona next door. Except, you can actually talk to other people at Grassona's because they don't have club music blaring out of their speakers. Nice outdoor seating too!
Extremely nice staff, food portions were a little small for the price, but tasted good.
This is as much an Italian restaurant as if I was Italian...And I am NOT.
A wonderful little gem with great service wonderful food and terrific music
Look it’s not cheap to eat great food, when they started talking about the branding and all day cooking of the sauce I was not moved, but boy did my mouth sing from creamy polenta and gravy with mixed meats of the kitchen...show stopper!
Smokey Caesar dressing on romaine Lettuce ...yum
Food is delicious and host and staff are so welcoming. This place is a gem.
Our son seen the Tiramisu French toast on the Phantom Gourmet & said we had to try it. We come from the South Shore wasn’t bad of a trip from brunch on a Sunday so worth the trip. Food was awesome! My wife and son had the Tiramisu French Toast & I had the Confit PIg Tail Hash. I love hash for breakfast this hash is a great twist. Love it!! Of course I had a few pieces of the French Toast. Service was outstanding!! Will be back!! Also a pus is free parking on the street!
It was a lovely evening so the three of us chose to eat outside. We all immensely enjoyed the pasta with lamb and root vegetables; we agreed it was the best we had experienced. And that is from some well traveled gourmands! The service was prompt, pleasant, and enlightening about the wine and the menu.
Kudos to the chef and the staff!!
Very good food
Everything about this place was great..... the service and atmosphere were especially nice, and the food wasn’t just the usual boring Italian, but an interring take on classics.
We heard about Grassonas and we're excited to check it out. The bread and appetizers were great but we were a bit disappointed by the main courses. Both the lasagna and the veal were very salty.
We will likely go back again to give it another try.
Great food but the air conditioning is inadequate. It got to be uncomfortable to stay. I’ll definitely go back, but not until the weather cools off
Gorgeous environment. Friendly staff. Chef trying to be clever but misses.
We had a really wonderful anniversary dinner at Grassona's. I really appreciate that they have a vegetarian/vegan menu - it made it very easy for me to order comfortably. My husband got the lasagna and said it was fantastic. I got the fried polenta with mushrooms and broccoli rabe, which was also excellent. The cocktails were delicious and they have outdoor seating with is nice in the great weather we're having. All around a really great experience. Well definitely be back.
Great Italian comfort food "hidden" in plain sight, next to Barcelona. The Bolognese was filled with tender, succulent short rib meat, sausage and veal that seemed like it was marinating in its juices for hours and hours. Home made Pasta was done perfectly. All was Excellent. Lots of great vegan dishes too. Our Server, Sam, was very friendly and attentive. Will be back.
A different take on Italian food. Very good chicken under a brick. Good chicken parm, but different: chicken was tasty and tender, red sauce and noodles didn't float my boat. Great bartender but limited selection of vodka - Tito's was the best they had (no Kettle or Grey Goose). Good experience - not great.
We were a group of 8 and came at 6pm on a Friday in June. Still fairly quiet. Fully busy when we left but still able to chat fairly easily. Started with the large antipasto plate. Outstanding! They were happy to serve us family style so we got a mix of pasta and meat dishes plus an order of broccoli rabe from the appetizer menu. Every dish was terrific.
Very disappointed. Food was not good, menu, bar and wine offerings very limited. Not at all as advertised. Not a traditional Italian restaurant, not a restaurant with Italian comfort food.
It was ok, was looking for a more Italian experience including food and it was more American style. Even the music was hip hop - Italian is not hip hop - Italian is Italian - I want to experience Italian or Sicilian cuisine.
Great Italian restaurant, less pretentious than other places in the neighborhood but certainly worth visiting. Had a great meal
Wonderful food. Attentive service and great ambiance Thorough answers to all our questions. Really appreciated the separate vegetarian/ vegan menu. Will happily return!
Excellent service but sadly very disappointing food.
we love grassona's
have been there three times in the past few months and always very happy
mark, now the maitre de is excellent and keeps things moving right along
the choices on the menu are for the most part unique and fun combos
thank you

Unusual and delicious menu. First rate service and some truly inspired cocktails. Highly recommended
Quiet place with very good food. The broccoli rabe and cauliflower were excellent. Folks enjoyed the Sunday “gravy “ and the wine was excellent . Blood orange granita dessert also delicious . Best of all I was easy to have a conversation as it is a quiet place!
This small little neighborhood Italian restaurant has great food, good cocktail and wine selections, excellent service and a really nice low key vibe. The menu is varied enough so there is something for everyone. Lovely outdoor dining during the warmer months is lovely,
A neighborhood favorite! Delicious food made with love in a cozy space.
