Welcome to our restaurant at Dornoch Castle Hotel. Located right in the centre of Dornoch, our restaurant faces out over the walled gardens of the hotel. Our menu features an array of produce from local suppliers, with a focus on delicious, family style food.

On sunny days, the garden is a sociable hive of activity with customers enjoying an open-air dining experience in our beautiful walled gardens, an ideal location for taking in Scotland’s long summer nights.

This is a genuine place with quality food and attentive service. Chips are possibly the best we have had in the UK. The sticky date pudding was on the light side which is not my understanding of how this dessert should be. The wine list is reasonably long but disappointing. Billing was a bit sloppy with both an extra item added at first and a “voluntary” service charge of 10% added to the bill without prior notification, without even subsequent notification. Not good.

The burgers and olives are excellent. And the Cromarty cask ale was delicious. Service is a bit slow but very friendly despite being busy. it is definitely on the noisy side.

The food and the venue were superb. Everything would have been 5 stars, but there was one young waitress who was very solemn and withdrawn in her service, and we felt a little cold as a result. Halfway through the meal, we began to be attended to by another mature, female waitress who was excellent, bubbly, caring and attentive. Obviously with age comes wisdom and experience, but in the public facing service industry, it’s necessary to put on a professional head at all times, especially when customers are paying a lot of money for their dining experience. It was clear that the restaurant was extremely busy, but that shouldn’t affect staff engagement. Nevertheless, all things considered, we had a lovely experience and delicious, well-prepared, cooked and served food of high quality. Thank you!

Unfortunately myself and wife's main meal arrived at the table Cold. Lamb and Vension meals looked nice but we're cold. As though they had been cooked and left a while before being served. After making the staff aware and requesting the food to be reheated. It appeared the meals were recooked but again one was only luke warm and the other hot in part . Potatoes and Venison were hot but rest again cold. I ate the hot elements of the meal but after two attempts to serve her a hot meal my wife decided to decline the meal. A disappointment and totally spoilt our evening. We declined deserts and left.

The food selection was varied and perfectly cooked, offering much choice to each diner. The specials were many and covered all courses. We went for the sharing charcuterie platter, followed by the venison haunch and then a glorious sticky toffee pudding and raspberry pannacotta to finish. Each dish was perfectly cooked with attentive but unobtrusive service. Highly recommended.
