Grano Emporio Ratings and Reviews
Really enjoyed the visit to the restaurant so much so that we went back the next night too.
The quality of service and food was outstanding on both evenings.
Was nice to see that the specials changed every day and that the quality was maintained!
Highly recommend if you visit Johns Hopkins University!
Our first time at Grano Emporio was spectacular! We took advantage of a warm fall evening to sit out on the front patio, which was very romantic. The staff was so accommodating, bringing us delicious bread, complementing our wine choice, and offering to split the appetizer and salad we wanted to share. We thoroughly enjoyed some tiramisu and espresso after dinner and felt at ease to enjoy and take our time -- a true Italian dinner with a nice, slow pace. I'd also like to add, our entrees, the lasagna bolognese and zuppa de pesce were phenomenal! Such great flavors, perfectly cooked noodles and fish -- we savored each bite. Thanks for serving us such amazing food!
Have been here 3 times now and it has been absolutely awesome every time. Service & food quality have always been top notch, absolutely worth the money. Nice atmosphere on the patio, and the inside feels warm & inviting; more like a house than a restaurant. Not at all stuffy, just a very relaxed setting. Will continue to come here, have not found anywhere in Baltimore with Italian food as good as this, let alone at such a good price.
The food was excellent and the service good-- the four of us enjoyed our visit but we had to wait quite a while to get on the porch--- which was important to us. Although the wine selection was rather small, we were fine with our choices and had a really delightful evening.
We had a lovely experience at Grano Emporio. Very good meal, including a to-die-for pistachio gelato. Don't be scared away from this Italian restaurant if you're watching gluten intake -- they serve gluten-free pasta options for everything except lasagna. Also, they have parking behind the restaurant, which is good to know if it's a Friday or Saturday night in Hampden, when street parking is typically scarce. Enjoy!
We were seated right by the kitchen at first and thus treated to a blend of avant-garde 80's music from therein (yay!) and lite-FM from the dining room (not so good.) I asked that we be moved, and we were. After that, the music fluctuated in volume, but improved greatly in quality over time (more Sinatra et al, or maybe Joy Division, less bubblegum, please.) The wine we selected with our server's help was delicious and our meal was also quite tasty, although my whole bronzino was extremely small for the price and accompanied by just one thin piece of grilled zucchini. For $30, I'd like a larger fish and a bit more veg. Service was pleasant if a bit scattered.
We had three appetizers. starting off with the caesar salad. We asked the server if the salad was large enough to split between the two of us. He indicated yes, and he was correct. The calamari was tender and so tasty. The lasagna was a generous portion and delicious. Our server was terrific. We specially appreciated his informing us that we can park in a lot behind the restaurant. We will definitely return.
We like this place for date night or small groups but they do have a room for larger parties. Service is always extremely good and we always like whatever we order. Smallish menu which isn't a problem, sometimes the menu is a little seafood heavy in terms of options, that would be my only warning.
Overall pretty good. Service was fantastic once we were seated but they didn't have a table ready for us in the "main" dining area when we arrived which was a bit disappointing. One of the servers was kind enough to give us a tour of the upstairs which was pretty neat. Had mushroom ravioli and shrimp linguini. I would recommend both.
My mother-in-law celebrated her birthday at the restaurant one evening and very much liked the experience. My husband and I go to Grano regularly and have never been disappointed with the food and experience. One particular item we're glad has improved is the preparation of the Caesar salad---no longer are there tortilla chips on the salad! We were happy that the chef stuck, for the most part, with the traditional fixings for the salad when we celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday. The salad was much better.
Service was slow and poor.
The waitress was unattentive and really looked like she did not want to be there.
Brought out main course before we had finished our apetizers, did not bring an ice bucket with our wine, crossed infeont of people to serve.
Food was not that good.
There are far better options in town.
We go to Grano Pasta Bar quite often, but hadn't visited its slightly fancier sister restaurant in a while. Big mistake on our part! Emporio Grano is a true neighborhood gem. The menu is quite diverse and our server informed us that if necessary, the kitchen would do its best to make vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free meals. This was great to hear as we have friends and family who must avoid gluten for medical reasons. We opted for specials - an appetizer of baked zucchini with tomato sauce and cheese, which was large enough to share, followed by bistecca fiorentina for my husband and turbot with sauteed spinach for me. Everything was delicious and prepared exactly to order. I asked that my food be prepared with as little butter or oil as possible and both dishes were perfect. Emporio Grano has a nice wine list and a good selection of after-dinner drinks as well. Service was friendly, attentive, and professional. All in all, a wonderful experience - we'll definitely be back!
As someone with a gluten allergy, I appreciate the menu had gluten free options. But the server was indifferent at best. The server never checked in and the restaurant was not that busy - plenty of empty tables. I would give it another chance for the food. But not planning on going back any time soon.
People make a place special, and although the food was excellent (Ceasar Salad with shrimp, Med. Salad, meatballs and pasta, and mushroom ravioli) it was the friendly, informative people that pushed Grano's Emporium past a great dining experience and into a sublime one. Our beautiful waitress -Stephanie -was just the right mix of helpful and available. Everyone that walked through the dining area while we were there (chef? waiter? runner? owner? manager? I don't know who they were) said hello, how is everything? This was a fabulous place and we will go back.
Went to Grano Emporia after reading the positive reviews and will not be going back. The food was good, not extraordinary but good. Everything we ate - burrata, octopus for starters then pastas for our entree - can be had elsewhere in Baltimore with the same quality. The service, however, was abysmal. We entered a few minutes before our reservation and nobody was at the front to greet us. A woman working in the back came out and found someone for us. He proceeded to take us to the smallest table for two, despite the fact that the restaurant was empty - only two other parties at 7 on a weekday. From there the service spiraled downward. Our waiter left us alone for a good 15 minutes before we grabbed him to ask for water and to order a bottle of wine and our meals. We waited and waited for the wine, which only arrived at the table with our starters. We hadn't even finished our starters before the main courses came which was a problem since there was no room on the table for the plates. The lackluster service is unforgivable and tainted the whole meal. There were two waiters for three tables and we couldn't get the attention of our waiter. If the food was outstanding, we would weather the bad service. Unfortunately, the food is just decent.
I have been to this restaurant three times with my wife, and on one occasion we were joined by friends. The first time, we began our meal on the porch because it was a prematurely warm day in early spring. It was a very pleasant setting for a cocktail and appetizer. There is no scenic view from the porch -- only the street with a bit of traffic. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it. But we moved inside for our meal because the setting sun shines very brightly upon the deck. As for the food, the menu is small and limited, and it offers few choices for people, like me, who do not eat or like seafood. Even so, there were still a few things for me. I very much enjoyed the beef meatballs with pasta. I found the mushroom ravioli a bit sweet, but still excellent. Others enjoyed the seafood dishes. All in all, we found this to be a very good neighborhood restaurant and are likely to return.
The restaurant was a pleasant dining experience from all aspects. I went on reviews I had read and not one had a negative remark about the food. Four of us all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. There were plenty of restaurant employees who made sure all of our needs were met. It was a leisurely, comfortable meal. Everyone was very impressed with their meal.
