Hamburger was small and over cooked. Shepherds pie was swimming in broth instead of gravy with very little lamb underneath the potatoes. 3 people sitting at the bar received much more attention then the two of us (only other ones in the place) at a table.
Atmosphere is nice but food was not that good. Menu sounds great but execution was sub-par.
The host/waiter was very friendly but they seemed to be understaffed. The time to get our food was kind of long. The mains tasted good but the sides were just okay. The ice cream was tasteless. I hope they can get their act together because the decor was very attractive and this area needs a good casual option. I’ll go back again to see if things improved.
The food was okay, the menu read must better than the cocktails and food actually tasted. "A" for effort on gluten free.
Gorgeous renovation! Was hoping for a similar renovation to the food quality. The roasted half chicken, for the time it took to come, we expected roasted from scratch, but instead it was reheated and barely warm, and mashed potatoes were watery. French fries were too well done and many scraps and burger ordered medium rare was medium well. Server was great, but food took longer than expected. Won't go back for a while and give them time to settle in since reopening, and maybe kitchen quality will match the beautiful decor.
Decor is warm and inviting and service is very good. However, it's pricey for what you get. This was my 3rd time there; the first 2 times I had hamburgers which were very good and fairly priced, although a little on the high side. The last time, I had Mushroom Pot Pie. It was falvorful, but way overpriced. It was about a ice-cream-scoop-size of pureed mushrooms, en croute, on a bed of greens for $17.00. Also, we ordered the ricotta spread with bread for $7.00. Very tasty but, again, overpriced.
Excellent service and food. The inside looks great since taking over the space.
I never write reviews but my husband and I had such a terrible first time dining experience here I wanted to spare others the waste of time and money. The waitstaff was nice but inexperienced, the place was noisy and understaffed for a Saturday night, the food was very very delayed and even poorer quality. Tasteless salad and Salmon and Brussels sprouts and both not even cooked. Menu read Dijon salmon which should have been more salty yet it was sweet and inedible. It did not read honey Dijon. I ordered a glass of Pinot noir which I saw as $10. I was not given a choice and was given an $18 glass which I did not even drink as I did not like it or the heavy tumbler glass it came in. My husbands meal was not much better. He said the fries were even all stuck together. Despite making a reservation online we were given a tiny table despite more comfortable ones available but they said they were reserved. We were wedged in between 2 families with noisy kids. The salad dressing upset my stomache and I guess besides stating I had a dairy allergy contained dairy. All in all one of the worst dining experiences with a bill for two with one glass of incorrect wine coming just under $100. They were nice enough to take $8off for the wrong wine so they get a few points for that.
An original menu with some special favorites (Brussel sprouts, a variety of tips, etc.). Especially nice for people who like to try uncommon types of meat. I often eat here prior to a show at the TD Garden; the service is fast and it's an easy walk downhill.
Everything was very disorganized. We ended up getting two rounds of drinks when we only wanted one because of bad communication. The food was really late and not very good.
The service was quite erratic -- waiter would disappear for a long time. One of the appetizers (the hummus) was bad enough that we sent it back. 15 minutes after we placed our order I was told that the pot pie I had ordered was not available. The person who told me this did not bring a menu to use in changing my order, so I ordered the pasta bolognese, which someone else in our party had ordered. Her was fine, but the pasta in mine was not cooked. As in crunchy. So we had to send that back too, leaving me eating my meal after my dining companions had finished. They took both the hummus and the bolognese off the bill, but overall I would say the food her is not great and I don't think it is competitive with other similar places in the area.
Service was good. However, for the price $ of dinner, bread prior to meal would have been nice.
All the food was very delicious! And the drinks were fun and incredible! Plus our servers were nice and down to earth. They seemed to enjoy their work which made the whole experience fun for us! We will definitely make this a regular stop.
Nice place with great service... menu is limited and always wish 'medium well' wasn't raw in the middle cuz sending it back when you're on a time schedule is never an option. All in all, atmosphere is good and the wait staff was very courteous and attentive. Oh and the cauliflower and wings apps were amazing!
We went for Sunday brunch. Food was very well prepared with quality ingredients. Service was excellent. The decor and design is current and pleasing and the dining room is very clean. However if the manager and chef want to do a Sunday Brunch, they need to be better on the breakfast portion of the menu. They don't have pancakes or waffles, they were out of sausages, only one omelette selection, only offered white toast, and no jams, jellies or even soft butter. These are misses. All of our meals were excellent except my strip steak (steak and eggs) which while perfectly cooked and looking amazing was surprisingly tough. We will certainly be back for lunch or Dinner, but brunch needs to be upgraded.
The food was underseasoned, plated poorly, and prediminently greasy. Very disappointing.
We were a big group, but the server handled our table really well. All the food came out together, she checked frequently (but never intrusively) to be sure we had everything we needed and to offer more coffee, etc. She was terrific! Food was delicious, as were the drinks.
We were just visiting for family weekend, and wanted to have a well prepared meal after a long travel day. Grand kitchen and bar was a great find. The menu is interesting, the good is well prepared and nicely presented. No pretense, friendly staff overall a fine experience.
Fun new neighborhood place--good for families--creative dishes.
The food and atmosphere were great! We will definitely be back.
I guess I expected a little more. Menu was fine. Nothing special. Service was good. Manager(s) were by to ask how things were. Wasn't anything on the menu that really stood out.
I'm a fan of this new space. The table are set up generally to leave space between them. The head bartender is great, they've got good TVs, a nice bar, and very good cocktails. The wings are killer.
An excellent spot. I highly recommend you give them a try - you will be happy you did.
Have eaten twice since it opened. Staff was friendly and responsive. Food was creative and excellent. Barbecued ribs were a great app. Mussels and salmon were likewise delicious. Great value as well. Redone interior is attractive. Free parking. Will return soon.
We have dined at Grande twice now. Both times service was friendly and attentive. Menu has an interesting range of choices and has been good each time.
First time I have ever reviewed a restaurant~ We, who live in Newton, excitedly anticipated the opening of Grande as we do not have many options for dining. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by the food. Our takeaway from our first and last visit there is that the owners do not place importance on food quality or taste. The presentation of large romaine leaves in the Caesar Salad was lovely, but the dressing had no flavor. The salmon accompanying the salad was, surprisingly, deep fried!...a first for us. Truly awful, all in all. My husband had a piece of unappealing looking and unpleasant tasting chicken. Also, and of great concern was that all wines we watched being poured were poured from a tap. Great profit to be had unless one is watching/knows their wine. Nice redo of space, but same poor quality of food from same owner. We went one time to Mick Morgan when it first opened and never went back. Sorry, but unless they're willing to pick it up a notch to match the neighborhood our
prediction is...once a fool, twice a fool. Maybe they should have a meal at O'Hara's to see what they do right...just plain old good food because.... they respect their patrons. Been going for almost 20 years!
What a disappointment. Decent clam chowder had me hoping food quality would make me forget about slow service. I couldn't have been more wrong. The fried chicken special was just that. Specially dry, specially burnt. And somehow not hot.
And the portion, so small!
Nice space but I won't be wasting my time going there again.
Made a reservation for 10:30 a.m. brunch. Restaurant website says they open at 10 a.m. Showed up, place was closed. Called and no answer. Only person working was washing windows and told us that they wouldn't have a chef till 11:30 earliest. Sent the restaurant an email the day after and got zero response.
Apparently they don't give a hoot about customers or even opening their doors when they say they will.
We had a really nice meal at this new restaurant. The service was excellent. There is a wide variety of price points on the menu. The mussel appetizer is so good and big enough for a meal. It is definitely worth trying.
The food was excellent and the service was impeccable.
Great new restaurant. Very well remodeled and the food was good as well. We moved to Newton from Boston's South End and have been pretty dissapointed with the good scene. This was a pleasant surprise. Good little plates and great for kids. We will go back. Huge bar too. Nice booth, round and cocktail height tables. We are excited to have a good place to go to.
Did not like the food. Lunch menu same price as dinner and that is overpriced, especially for lunch. Service was amateur. I asked if fish was fresh. Server laughed and said she did not know, came back and said yes. I did not believe her.
Nothing good about the place but the location. The only way I would give it another chance was if I have a coupon for dinner.
It was difficult to tell whether the restaurant was open when looking from the street. On an early evening, it was perhaps 30% occupied, but this was only about a week after it re-opened. The new place, "Grande", is about twice the price of the old Mick Morgans. The food was good, I tried the burger and my friend's salmon. Weirdly, almost every other item on the menu was pork bellies of one sort or another, although it seemed they were trying for upscale otherwise. The waiter was annoyingly chatty. We didn't go to the restaurant to talk to him, but to each other.
So I don't really see a reason to return, other than the convenience of the place being close to home. I really miss Mick Morgans; it was a great local irish pub for friends and family.
New place, open about two weeks, cool industrial style ambiance inside and tasty food
What a wonderful surprise ! A newly opened restaurant that already does everything right !! Food was great, smartly decorated, and excellent service. Atmosphere upscale and friendly. Chef is terrific , try his avocado gazpacho , it's a wow dish. Can't wait to go back.
On a whim I went to Grande Kitchen + Bar and I was quite pleased with the service, food and the ambiance. I was there for lunch and I would like to see what the bar is like in the evening.
maybe we ordered wrong
but a culinary let down
flat bread more like stuff on stale Matzah
oh well, may try again later but not a good first date
Just opened on Needham Street in Newton. Great re-do of a tired space. Hidden gem! Great food and drink. Eli took care of us. Best service I've had in years! Ask for Eli! Hope they can keep the level of food and service up. Sorely needed higher end restaurant in the Newton Upper Falls/Highlands area!
