Really nice, good food but pricey
Great meal. Great view. Great drinks. Take the drive up the hill slow, watch for bikers.
We had the micro salad that was grown on their farm and it was outstanding. The chicken and lamb chops were delicious and well prepared . The accompanying vegetables and mashed potatoes were cold and disappointing . Their homemade cheese cake was excellent. Unfortunately we made the mistake of simply asking the waitress to recommend a glass of wine . We never said your best glass of wine. The wine she recommended to go with my meal was appropriately priced at 15$. For my fiancé she recommended a 96$ glass of wine which she did not give us a heads up about the price. We were shocked when we got the bill and the glass of wine was three times the price of my chicken dish. We dine out at fine restaurants frequently and never have had this kind of experience. The manager told us they train their waitresses not to “insult “ the patrons by mentioning prices . Recommending a 96$ glass of wine and not telling your patron is poor and unacceptable . We were shocked when we got the bill and very unhappy . It ruined my birthday dinner when we had to deal with this . Our experience is when a price is out of the ordinary the patron is informed so they can make a decision. Therefore their philosophy in our opinion is poor customer care.
I love this place! I have since my early years. Amazing
The food was great with one exception. We were there for Mother's Day. The menu was a fixed menu with several courses. The soup or salad choices were both excellent (Mexican Caesar and Leek Soup). The main courses were salmon, gnocchi and filet. All but one of us had the gnocchi and it was fantastic! Very light and fluffy like they are supposed to be. The sauce that went over them was also great. One person had the filet. Normally they are great but this one came out raw even though the person ordered medium. After very politely sending it back and asking for pink...the filet came back still raw inside. Basically no difference. This was the only bummer. But all the rest of the food was great and the service from Chui was outstanding.
Didn’t realize it was a fixed menu for Mother’s Day. Way over priced $80 per person and the food was cold and not well prepared. Flies were invading us and we were inside. My dessert came in a plastic cup!!! So disappointed as we’ve been wanting to try it.
Great view and food, tough combo to beat. The live music was a nice touch. We definetly will return.
The Appetizers and the food were awesome!
Great meal - especially the Prime Rib, and the service was excellent.
Occasion was a birthday celebration dinner for my husband. Very professional and attentive wait staff and the food was outstanding. Pacing of service was relaxed and good - there was proper spacing/time between the courses. When the food arrived, it was hot and properly prepared. Menu is varied - traditional American with a variety of steaks/chops/seafood/pasta dishes The available wine selection paired nicely with the food items on the menu and were quite good. Best part is the ambience with the fabulous view overlooking San Jose and the valley. It is slightly on the pricey side, but then again, you get what you pay for and it was worth it. We will be coming back here again.
It is a bit pricey only because the food is good but not great. But for the view, service, and the atmosphere, makes it worth it.
Went there for anniversary dinner. Totally loved the food and the grand view this restaurant offered.
Exceptional view! We were lucky enough to nab a great table at the patio; both of us had fantastic views. Note that patio seating is "first come, first served", so plan accordingly.
Top notch service, excellent fresh food, perfect place for a leisurely meal to celebrate a special occasion.
Food and service were excellent! Remarkable view! Great selection of wines by the glass!
Very good food and beautiful view great place to take your girl too or family waiters were really good at attending ur every needs lobsters tails were bomb
Beautiful view and wonderfully delicious meal, definitely pricey, but considering everything had to be either grown on their farm or transported (not particularly convenient), it was probably priced accordingly. A salad took Way too Long to come, which seemed a little funny. Cocktails were special, our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly and the live musician was enjoyable. Overall we loved celebrating a birthday at a new spot. We'll be back for a future special occasion.
Fabulous restaurant experience! Outstanding food selection & taste. The staff was outstanding. And views... amazing views of the city lights of Silicon Valley. Highly recommend for special occasions such as a birthday!
Best view in San Jose. Fancy and classy. Breathtaking scenery. Really remarkable. Food was savory.
Beautiful view. Amazing find in a quiet surrounding
View Oh view....... it was the best. But, the food and service were excellent too. We will come back.
Amazing restaurant with great view!
will recommend with a caveat..................... it's been a long while since I sent my food back....but my veal chap and mashed potatoes arrive cold............
if you are going to have salad and pasta, split them--too large a portions for one individual
I rediscovered Grand View on OpenTable last winter. As its name suggests, ambiance is Grand View's top offering, and you pay a premium for it. My wintertime indoor visit was simply not worthy of an encore, but I nonetheless wanted to experience dining outside on Grand View's large deck once the warm weather returned.
With the long range forecast showing temperatures in the 80s, I made reservations via OpenTable for last night well in advance, and specifically requested outdoor seating in my note. When I arrived on time I was told I could be seated inside immediately, or wait 45 minutes to sit outside, and was told outside seating is allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. This was very disappointing given these facts:
1) There was a "reserved" placard on an outside table, so some diners are more equal than others, and aren't subject to the first-come, first-serve rule.
2) OpenTable can technically handle reservations for different types of seating. Test out Vino Locale in Palo Alto and see the indoor/outdoor choice.
3) I was never contacted by Grand View in advance to alert me that my seating request might not be satisfied.
4) Neither on Grand View's website nor its note to diners on the OpenTable reservation page is the seating policy ever mentioned. Restaurants like Palacio in Los Gatos at least gave fair warning of their seating policy.
There's just too great of a difference in dining experience between inside and outside to leave it to chance. You either have to wait or be someone/know someone. It defeats the entire purpose of making a reservation in the first place. I won't be returning until they can get this right.
Second time and consistently amazing. The view and food are both incredible.
Great view great service but the food is highly overpriced.
Excellent food and excellent service, and great view. The ambiance was wonderful. I appreciate dining in an adult atmosphere with no TVs and a low noise level. Enjoyed the piano music after dinner in the bar. Outstanding drinks! I am looking forward to going back soon.
One of the best views in San Jose. Easily one of the best places to celebrate a special occasion or wind down from the busy life of the city. Food was good and the music really complimented the ambience. One of my favourite moments with my wife was dinning outside on the balcony at night.
Took my sister for her birthday, wanting to go somewhere special for the occasion. We both had the beet salad, and felt it would be more appropriate title salad with beets, based on the sparse quantity. She had the salmon and was very happy with it. I ordered the scampi and was confused, it was literally just some prawns and scallops in sauce. No sides of any kind were included, so it was really not filling or a complete meal for the price. The service was the lowest point though. From being rushed to make sure we paid at the bar before being seated, and then taking 20 min to get water at our table. It was not a memorable trip in a good way...
Had a very pleasant dinner would’ve wished our server was better but that doesn’t ruin how good the food was and the view was unbeatable
Our waitress made a rude comment! It actually offended me!!
pleasant visit at Grand View.. sure would recomend
I ordered the Cowboy steak which was tough and tasteless. The bourbon selection was limited and too expensive. I drink a bourbon over ice and it was apparent that the amount of liquor was less than an once for fifteen dollars a shot.
I have been patronizing this place for 35 years and although the renovations are great the total experience has lost it's charm and family atmosphere. Too bad
We were very happy and impressed with our service our waiter Jesus/Chuy was so informative and was very attentive . We were very pleased with everything! Our food was so delicious and fresh. We are definitely coming back and asking for our same waiter and bringing friends and family with us. We will be definitely telling people to come here. :)
The drive up was breathtaking. A good approach to the fabulous Resturant. Once there you were captivated by the view. Relax. Enjoy.
View is stunning. Food is very nice. Worth the drive!
Beautiful view, excellent service from Hector & Elias, good Italian food, scary drive up!
The view is unlike any other in the Bay Area— absolutely breathtaking! We had dinner for my friend’s birthday and requested window seating for 8, which they accommodated.
Complimentary foccacia bread with olive oil/herbs. We ordered 4 apps: jumbo shrimp cocktail, calamari, arancine (risotto balls), polenta & Gorgonzola. We all chose pasta for our mains: linguine & clams, lobster carbonara, pappardelle aragosta, penne alla norma (veggies), and linguine & seafood. No frills presentation, a few dishes did have an edible flower. Al dente pasta with good flavors. Tiramisu only had a hint of sweetness! Light and enjoyable with a lit candle for the bday girl. Hector was an excellent host! Friendly, informative, and made us feel welcome in a fun, classy atmosphere. He recommended a mix of Diet Coke & pomegranate Italian soda. Grand Mule was strong! Must have been the included ginger liqueur. Great place for a special occasion but beware the trek up (and down)!
NOT worth the price. The drive up there was nice, the view is grand indeed but the food was so forgettable. The price for everything is expensive and read the tiny print! We ordered what we thought was a glass of the Barolo (as opposed to ordering the bottle). The price was for a 2 ounce glass ($14) vs the 4 ounce glass ($28). Also, the tab comes with suggested tip amounts but they include tip on the taxes too! So do your own math. My sesame seared ahi was not hot at all. I think they have these pre-made and sitting in the fridge before they hit your plate. The $44 piece of tuna should have been hot on the outside crust but it was not. The chocolate tort came with a single raspberry. And everything we ate was mediocre at best including the award winning margarita which used bottled orange juice. They must not have an orange tree in the farm. If you go, you’ll like the view but feel ripped off when you leave. Why can’t the view AND the food be grand? Especially if you’re paying through the nose!
The sunset and view was amazing!
We came for the view and because someone claimed it was a one of a kind experience. This place feels like it’s had better days and has not kept up with the times. Servers acted like they wanted to be somewhere else, seating was cramped with waiters bumping into tables for lack of aisle room. Food was ho hum. But the view was nice and they seated us promptly. Feels like someplace to bring the kids for lunch and a fun view NOT a place for upscale Valentines meal. Even the decor was yesteryear. Wish I could say more positive things but ... oh well
Beautiful view, delicious food, steak was perfect, service was wonderful.. but I think they need better dessert.. still a 5 star :)
