This was our first visit. We were given a dining gift card for this restaurant and had never heard about it before but you can be sure we will come here again. The view is marvelous. We dined at night and could see all of the South Bay lit up. Just wished we had come before sun down as I imagine that sight would have been spectacular and it would have added to our wonderful evening. My husband likes to ask a lot of questions so it was nice to have a server that was patient and knowledgeable. I ordered the veal chop and it was cooked beautifully. My husband had the Pasta Sinatra and he loved it. Overall we had a perfect evening. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a beautiful place to dine during the afternoon or evening.
We booked our reservation in advance for a special evening to celebrate my husband and my brother's birthday. As always the view was spectacular! Unfortunately the service and food were overpriced and underwhelming. The table we were seated at was on a slope, and all of our food and drinks kept sliding downward. We were charged an extra $9 to add cheese to our $22 charcuterie tray, even though that was not listed on the menu. After asking to see a wine list three times, I finally gave up and ordered wine by the glass. The beet salad was made from canned beets and contained exactly zero cheese as described on the menu. When we asked the waiter about that, we were told that it was 'shaved goat cheese' . Ha ha ha! My $50 entree of seafood scampi consisted of three prawns and three scallops. After not eating the beet salad and such a small portion on the seafood I left the restaurant hungry. We were not offered bread, fresh ground pepper for our salads, and overall service was very slow. The waiter even forgot to bring our wrapped up leftovers to the table and we had to ask for those upon our exit. Overall, very disappointing for the very high amount of money that we paid for the experience.
Had a wonderful evening with friends. Their first time and they loved it. The food and drinks were superb, the ambiance perfect and the view was spectacular. A beautiful gem in the east foothills.
This is a fantastic restaurant for a special occasion dinner. The food is very good and the service is exceptional.
By far the best reason to come here is the view. We really enjoyed that part. Otherwise, food and service were fine but not awesome. Quite overpriced for what you get. Three items in particular I thought of negatively:
- Dessert options a bit underwhelming.
- They charge a 4% "liveable wage" surcharge. I'm all for liveable wages, but for such an expensive place it does not reflect well on them if they apparently do not pay a liveable wage and deemsit necessary to fleece or nickel-and-dime their customers who are already leaving very high tips given the price level.
- We had two silver wedding anniversaries, so as something "special" they served a plate with 1 (one) raspberry and a tiny spec of whipped cream. OK, it was a gesture, but a single raspberry for us to share? Really? We spent over $100/person. Come on, guys, either make it something special or don't bother.
Loved our waiter, loved the service, we felt like royalty! We'll be back soon!
I've gone here for years but this is the 1st time since its been remodelled. The view will always be fantastic but the building itself is much nicer now and the food much pricier...but much better. My only complaint was that my Caesar Salad was almost non-existant.
The view of the city at night is really awesome, food and drinks are great and the server was really great!!
We came to celebrate our anniversary. Always a great experience with a wonderful view. While we were waiting to be seated a young man went to the piano and bega to serenade his girlfriend with a sweet John Legend song. When he finished singing he proposed! That was pretty cool.
The only negative was my husband ordered filet mignon and was brought a New York. It was a bit tough, otherwise a great evening well spent!
It was our 10 year anniversary and was seated in the corner window table with the best view! It was simply breathtaking! The service provided by Tory was impeccable! The tomahawk steak was fit for a king and cooked to perfection! The salmon grandview was enjoyable but the crab stuffed inside the salmon was a tad salty for my taste. The espresso and cardamom creme brulee was heavenly! Overall the experience was really great and we would come back again.
The whole plan to have dinner here was to celebrate our Anniversary and my now Fiancé proposed to me shortly before arrival. So we definitely celebrated our anniversary and engagement. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with lovely smiles and a “welcome, how are you?” We made a reservation 2 weeks prior and arrived right on time. Our table was already waiting for us, no waiting time, I loved that! Everything was phenomenal, from the service to the food and that beautiful sunset. It only got better, when it got dark and the staff turned on the lights and the patio heaters. I did not feel cold at all, they kept me very toasty. Awesome for us women who want to wear a nice dress for our men. Our waiter was very nice and welcoming and when we would ask for recommendations on drinks, appetizers or entree’s he definitely came through. Everything was delicious. Every single waiter that came to our table was very nice and funny! I really enjoyed our dinner. The view was so mesmerizing, everything was more than perfect. I really appreciated being asked if we were enjoying ourselves and that we could take our time, no rush. I have always felt in other places to be rushed and I did not feel that here at all. I want to say thank you for your phenomenal service, delicious food and beautiful setting. You have definitely become our favorite place. Keep up the awesome service because we really appreciated it.
It was a great surprise for out 5th anniversary, she loved it romantic, quiet, the view, live piano and most of all the food was delicious. The staff really friendly to!
Amazing view, extraordinary service and fabulous cuisine. It’s a win-win-win!
Very good service and food. The only negative is the drive to get there. Not a drive home you want to make if you have had a few drinks. View is outstanding. Service excellent. Everyone is very helpful and want to make sure you are having a good time and a good meal.
Great Place with a scenic view. Excellent food served by very friendly staff. Made reservations weeks in advance and asked for a window seat since it was our anniversary. When we went to our table (#3) we discovered someone had taken it. We were then seated away from the windows at a different table. Oh well.
The view is the most valuable asset of this restaurant, but they cover the patio with a plastic cover, which blocks the view and turns into a blurry view through the plastic.
The food was good, not worth its price though.
The live music is loud inside it's hard to hear each other unless you go to listen the live music, which was very good.
Great food people atmosphere and view
Outdoor dining provides the best view, but the slope of the floor makes dining difficult. Service was good and so was the food, but the wine list is grossly overpriced and provides no wines from the Santa Clara Valley.
First, let me start by telling you I'm an accountant. I don't mind paying for the view, I understand charging more for the ambiance but I would recommend being upfront about your charges and not nickel and diming your customers. I asked to have a salad split and when we got the bill a split plate charge of $4 was added to my $17 caprese salad which consisted of a half a tomato, two leaves of basil and fresh mozzarella...it was definitely not worth $21! Upon further review of the bill, we also had a 4% cost of living fee added to the total and they overcharged me for my glass of wine. Again, I wouldn't have minded paying the prices if they were up front about it and included it in the cost of the food or notified me ahead of time instead of just surprising me when I received the bill. I mostly likely will not return.
Food and service was amazing, the view is unforgettable. This is a must try for unique bay area fine dining
We had a great evening celebrating his birthday. Would definitely go back. The food was perfect and the view stunning. Or waiter Jesus was GREAT!
the food is excellent...the view is fantastic...
...patio could use a sunshade for the hour that the sun is setting...
...until then I suggest you avoid the reservation an hour before sunset...
...the staff is in need of a little polish...
...asking to split a salad it was delivered on one plate and we were told we could do anything we want with it...hmmmm…
...still loved the place...will go again...
Outstanding service, beautiful view, nicely decorated, great food
Amazing! We went for a birthday and enjoyed every bit of it
I took mt wife for her birthday and had a good time our waiter was excellent and food was delicious will go back sometime and the views were beautiful try and make it for sunset but city light awesome 💯
Basically we were underwhelemed. Food high priced and just ok, service was basic, nothing exceptional. Our table of four asked for another service of bread which isn't much to begin with and the staff said only one per table....really? At a restaurant that wants to be in a high priced special occassion category!?
Drinks were expensive but glass looked like it was a little over half full!
Best thing is the view but even at that, the drive up is quite a hike and we did not want to have more that one drink and drive back down.......
If the food was better it would be amazing but the plating and cooking was sloppy. Fantastic views and great location for a romantic setting.
Great staff, great food and amazing views of the valley!
This place is all about the view. Bummer you have to engage in some serious driving up the hill for very average food though. Definitely don’t regret visiting this restaurant one time but no need to return.
I use to like this restaurant and have been there many times over the years. Prices have increased a lot and are now very high. For example, a pasta bolognese dish is $30. Chicken $34-$36. Salad between $14-$17. On top of that, they bury a deceptive charge in the fine print of the menu that says, "4% living wage supplement will be added to each check to help with the recent increases in minimum wage costs." Of course I didn't notice this until I got the bill. Seriously? I won't return due to these deceptive marketing practices.
We split a salad for a starter and were charged a $4 split plate fee. Never before have I seen that fee charged on anything other than an entree!
The waiter never offered us pepper on our $20 salad.
Management responded to my comment on Yelp about the deceptive fee and said, "Because restaurants work on a tight margin, this is trend that is rapidly growing in our industry out of a genuine need to offset the bottom line." All restaurants are faced with the same increase in minimum wage and the vast majority do NOT add a "living wage" into the fine print. It simply increases the complexity of your customer's lives (e.g. to split meal costs), deceptively prices menu items, and it is simply very tacky for an upscale restaurant to do this. This so called "trend", which I have only seen one other time, does not make it right and it should not be practiced by a business with conscientious business practices. If they need to offset higher costs, simply raise prices and be upfront rather than burying deceptive fees into the menu.
Seem business ownership changed. Not as good overall
Celebration of husband’s 50th birthday. Venue was wonderful, especially the sunset and evening lights. Service was excellent. My negative is the food. Appetizers were okay. Shrimp was over cooked. Calimara was excellent, batter was light and crisp. My husband enjoyed his steak. My daughter’s swordfish was cold. The most disappointing was my lobster carbonara. The lobster was so over I could not cut into it with a steak knife. We sent it back, the new one was a better texture but sooooo salty. I did not send it back again but could not eat it. The pasta part was perfect. As I said disappointed.
One of THE BEST spots on San Jose, if not THE BEST!!!
Went here for our anniversary and had the 5 course meal. The meals were very tiny, but I guess that is normal when you are getting 5 different meals. I fully enjoyed everything the food was very flavorful. The staff was very helpful and very nice. It was clean and cool. The outside heat stayed there. My husband and I had a really great time, the only thing that would suggest changing is the piano music maybe change the pace of the music. It sometimes sounded like it would put me to sleep because we both had food coma. Pricing was okay but I don't know if it was worth $105. But I honestly would return because I really appreciated the staff and the food was good. Thank you for your service.
We had our reservation for 5:00 pm for a special dinner out. My crab stuffed salmon was very good but my husband's prime rib was ok. For dinner, two drinks, 1 appetizer and 1 dessert, we spent $213.00. I think it was a bit much. The customer service was great and the food was fine but would not return.
What an amazing gem hidden in the foothills of San Jose.
Perfect for a relaxing evening. Service was great. Staff is great.
Louis made our anniversary very special. Our first time there & we will be back!! Steaks are HUGE!! Only thing missing was S&P on the tables. Didn’t have alcohol but all the drinks looked amazing.
Our waiter was fantastic. Was very knowledgable of the area, positioning of the planets and pointed them out to us, even snapped some pictures for us. Food was great and the drinks were on point.
Enjoy amazing views and amazing food! Most of the food is grown on the property on their organic farm. We love going here for a date night and any special occasion.
I’ve been going to Grandview for 20 years....
the changes are nice, but way too expensive.... the service was good, but I ordered a coffee that took 15 mins. Three reminders and was cold when I finally got it. My food was cold and didn’t taste great. Of course the view is amazing and everyone needs to see it. But I probably won’t be back.
Eat. Love. Celebrate.
The Grandview Restaurant (GV) is on track for a Michelin star. We have been coming here for many years, and since 2015 have seen efforts by brothers Giuseppe and Maurizio to transform this historic location and corresponding 'Grandview Farms' property into a amazing Bay Area dining experience (their motto is 'eat-love-celebrate').
On our most recent visit in late August 2018 we saw substantial investments since January that simply delighted us (beyond our expectations) in the areas of leadership, staffing/ training, menu offering, GV Farms content, cocktails and wines, venue improvements (music, parking, tables, physical menu, and wine offering).
GV has brought on a rock-star GM (Ilya Shnayder), who along with Chef Miguel Valesquez dramatically improved the menu in terms of variety of dishes, increased Grandview Farms (cage-free eggs, melons fruits and vegetables) content, added fun dishes (the Chef's Playground), a five-course sampler with two choices of wine pairings, and lighter faire (GV Beets Salad, Dungeness Crab Salad, Blue Point Oysters) - in addition to their classics (Seafood Sampler, Oyster Rockefeller, Cowboy & Tomahawk Steaks, Lobster Carbonara and home-made pastas).
The outdoor deck complements indoor seating and offers a 5-star view of the valley and the solar system from every seat, sparkling clean glass tables, live music. Easy conversation levels. Plenty of heaters standing by for your comfort.
Grandview has an amazing bar and a fine selection of wines and champagnes (with a special focus on Northern CA wines) with an appropriate selection of after dinner drinks (love a Ruby port).
Now on to the future. At GV we met with Sarena Ackley (who knows GV inside and out and who blew us away with her passion and knowledge of GV) told us that GV Farms is opening up for Bay Area companies to engage with GV and their employees and companies in interesting ways. Wow!
