Best food and atmosphere I've ever experienced! Highly recommend!
We have eaten at GrandView many times but last week's Sunday dinner was not successful. The greeters and our waiter were excellent, personable and fun. The butternut squash soup and wedge salad were FANTASTIC!! Sadly, the short ribs/gnocchi were greasy and the steak tough. A large party apparently backed up the kitchen. We waited 30+ minutes for a slice of cheesecake which we finally cancelled. We were also a bit surprised in the $35/corkage. We will go one more time, hoping for the old GrandView to reappear.
Nice view!! Food was very good but very expensive. Extra truffle on pasta was $35 for a couple pieces. The waiter forgot my best friends 50 th birthday. Served us desert we ordered, gave us bill to pay. When we were about to leave, the waiter remembered birthday and said was going to bring out desert again. We said no thank you since we were about to leave. I called manager when we got home and he reimbursed us for deserts. Also on bill noted a $20 cost of living surcharge.
We are so happy you enjoyed the amazing view and your meal. We are pleased we were able to comp your birthday desserts and we truly apologize for any oversight. As for the truffles, because they are rare and imported from Italy and are quite rare, it is common to have an up charge for this delicacy. Our living wage fee is a trend many California restaurants have been adding to offset the higher minimum wage requirements in our state. If you have any other other questions we are here for you!
On behalf of all of us at The Grand View we appreciate your positive review! We hope to serve you and your guests again soon. Eat.Love.Celebrate
Larger crowd than I expected but the food and wine were great—our waiter was nice and friendly too, we will definitely come back to this place
I took my fiancee to Grand View for her birthday and it was phenomenal! The meal was delicious. We had two orders of the baked oysters. We also had a 1986 merlot from Stag's Leap... extraordinary. Our hostess Jill was incredible and took great care of us. Ilya, the GM, came to our table to talk about the wine list. Best of all, the view! Not enough words. Highly recommended! We will definitely be back.
Exceptional views, good food, great service. Perfect for special occasions.
After being open for only 1 hr 45 min they were out of both the menu items we drove there for.
The drive up the mountain this time of year in the dark is quite dangerous.
No parking except for on the winding roads shoulder. You'd think with their tiny lot full they would provide some safe satellite parking with valet service rather than have you walk up & down the hill to street parking. Pricey for the minimally satisfying experience Grand View delivered. So disappointed, after the covid lock down restrictions we were so looking forward to a grand experience.
Just fabulous! However, the drive up is INTENSE!!
My boyfriend and I had an absolutely amazing time at Grandview this past Sunday. Our servers name was Jill, and she was outstanding from beginning to end. From the moment we sat down, we felt like we were the only table she was taking care of. She greeted us instantly with a smile, had great knowledge of the menu and specials for the evening, and provided insight to her personal faves.
Upon Jill's recommendation, I ordered a cocktail that was out of my comfort zone, and I'm so glad I did, it was delicious!
The food was scrumptious. The menu has a perfect mix of small/ light apps all the way to full blown, comfort food. There is something for absolutely everyone on their menu!
If you are not sold on the service or food yet, you should come to check out the view. Easily one of the best kept secrets in the San Jose area.
We will definitely be back!
Most of the items on the menu were unavailable. Chicken? Unavailable. Lamb? Unavailable. Lobster? Unavailable.
Restaurant with a view but poor management and poorer supply chain management.
Excellent food. Menu is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. Definitely fine dining. It can be expensive but worth it and they do different deals on different nights so it’s worth checking them out before you book. Highly recommended.
Excellent service! The staff was attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating. We had an amazing view. The restaurant did their best by placing heaters close to each table to keep us warm but it did get cold later that night. I only wish my filet mignon tasted better :) I ordered an 8oz. filet, medium-well but felt like it was a bit dry (more well done than medium). Everything else was fantastic. We've been going to Grand View for years and we will definitely go back.
I wish the clear plastic was pulled down during sunset and placed back in place after sunset. I hope the cocktail sauce was not spicy. Steak was excellent; not too dry and the sauce was perfect.
Restaurant was closed and no notice was provided. Drove all the way after confirming reservation the night before to show up to a lock gate
Another wonderful experience! A little different this year of course. The dining was outdoors and there was a pre fix menu, but the options were great. We have had nothing but good experiences here. The staff is always kind, knowledgeable and helpful. The food, wine and cocktails are always excellent. Will continue to celebrate special occasions here hopefully for many years to come!
Fantastic ambiance. Our server, Irene, was very professional and attentive. The scallops smelled fishy but tasted good. We will go back but not for a pre-fixed "holiday" meal.
Juan our server as usual very welcoming and energetic.
They did an outstanding job for these challenging times. I can only imagine how difficult it is to provide outstanding service when everything is carried to outside tables with temporary covers and heaters. It was my first visit to this restaurant, and it is a beautiful venue with amazing views. I give them credit for serving a wonderful dinner when the staff was overloaded by the logistics of serving their diners in a difficult situation. When we can safely dine inside in public again, I look forward to a return trip. Meanwhile, for anyone looking for an outstanding meal with some of the best service available under current circumstances, I wholeheartedly recommend that you enjoy a dinner at GrandView.
Dear Homer, On behalf of our entire staff working so hard to create a safe and wonderful ding experience for our guests, we thank you for sharing your positive feedback with our Open Table community. We appreciate it very much! The Grand View
Food, service and ambience were wonderful, but the top deck was almost like an indoor with 4 sides closed with little bit of gaps. you might as well do an indoor dining with all the windows open and heaters running high. We felt uncomfortable there, so we moved to the lower deck closest to the open area. A bit chilly, but we had a good time.
It was an overall excellent experience from the service to the location and presentation, absolutely 5 start. The food for me was just a little on the “Gamey” side, maybe I didn’t order the right thing that night but my wife got the prime rib and said it was excellent, I had the lobster and shrimp pasta, the sauce was good but the lobster and shrimp tasted a little old I hate to say.
They have one of the best service’s in San Jose and the food was delicious.
Place was a 20 min drive up a narrow hill, we arrived at sunset. Great wine selection.
Priceless view, delicious food, and great service.
The view is grand. Good food. Good service. The only issue was our broken heater. It was a cold night and had to moved to another table. They did accommodate us in a timely manner.
Waiter was very kind. Food was great
Very nice staff. Been here before and it feels like family
Since it was the last day they were open 12/6 they were running out of a few options. But other than that it was great had a filet mignon steak pretty good. As well my dad had a Lobster & shrimp bucatini. What a bummer you guys had to close due to this new regulations but lets hope for a better year in January so you guys can make your comeback. Definitely recommend this place.
Went the last day before the second lock down for covid. They were out of oysters, prime rib, and tiramisu, but the food we did get was excellent.
Service was impeccable but the food....beyond delicious. Elegantly presented but most importantly you can taste the quality of ingredients and freshness. Highly recommend. Worth the drive!
Great views, food was delicious. Service was also great. Will be back once shelter in place is lifted.
Wow! I couldn’t have asked for a better evening! My first time here, with a first official date of someone I am falling for. I chose this place because I wanted it to be “Our Spot”. I look forward to coming back as the food was incredible and the view was breathtaking! Thank you <3
It was my birthday dinner, i splurged and got the Kobe medium rare, which was delicious, also my first time eating Kobe steak so I have nothing to compare it to. However I would have preferred the filet mignon, wasn’t quite medium rare a little over cooked more like medium well. The view was absolutely stunning. I wish to come back in the summer though since they open at 5 and it was past sunset during our dinner on 11/30/20. Wine was amazing and service was great. At this time it was a bit cold even with their heaters out there, price was a bit high but I feel like the view was half the cost which is alright.
Perfect view. Excellent service. Great for romantic dinner. The only (minor) issue is that on-line menu is quite different from the real menu. If pre-selecting something, you may verify that it's actually available.
Beautiful view and food was great.
The expectation was more than the experience! We traveled all the way from Florida to celebrate a birthday only to be told we couldn’t take photos of the city view because there was a wedding reception at the restaurant! Imagine the disappointment after spending so much on dinner. The noise from other guests celebrating a birthday was a bit much and cheapened the experience for us.
Overall an amazing time eating here. Loved the views and how well servers took care of us!
Only critique or advice I'd give is maybe have some Vegan options!
Great View, service was great. Food was good. Definitely a great place for a date or special occasion. Hope to be able to go and do the normal dine-in when its safe to do so, so looking forward to the next visit.
The food is always good, fresh and well prepared but it is PRICEY for what it is. It doesn't stop me from visiting a few times a year though, where else are you going to see that spectacular view?
Really, really beautiful location. I felt for the prices they were charging the food should have been exceptional. It was just fair.
