This is a place for a special occasion. It is not cheap. The service is great, the food is very good, and of course the view is amazing.
The menu specifically states that the steaks are served a la carte. The waiter also reminded us that the steals were served a la carte. My wife and I both ordered steak and decided to order 2 side dishes, smashed yukon potatoes and creamed greens. When our steaks were brought out, we immediately noticed that both our plates had a serving of creamed greens on each plate. They then brought out our potatoes side dish and separate side dish of creamed greens. Definitely annoyed that we were not told we would already be receiving a side of creamed greens with our steak as we would not have wasted money on the additional side dish order of the same. And it was basically left untouched as the portion already on the plate was sufficient.
There very limited menu options as everything we wanted they were out of only an hour into them being open. We had to settle with whatever was available and we didn’t like any of it very much. The staff however was very knowledgeable, friendly, and fast. The view is amazing. We just wish our food (especially for the cost) was better. It was just ok.
The drinks and food were amazing and the service was also very good. $450 for dinner for 2 is pretty expensive so not sure I would go there again unless I was ready to take out a second mortgage. It made my wife happy and that’s all that matters.
Very Disappointed with our experience. Firstly, The restaurant makes no mention of the fact that to reach the restaurant there is a very winding road. At night it is quite scary to be driving on that road. They should make their customers aware of that in advance. Secondly , Our waiter seemed to be in a big hurry every time he came to our table. It was my husband's 60th Birthday and I wanted it to be special. He was very unfriendly and explained the dishes in a big rush. It was hard to have a conversation with him since he seemed to be disinterested. The price of the fish was not told to us when we ordered it and came to us as a big shock. He got the small Birthday dessert but only 1 candle was lit and he forgot to light the other candle. The impersonal, cold attitude made us feel totally unwelcomed.
The server had an attitude when we asked for recommendations. I expect that when I am paying $100 per person in my party that we are treated with some respect. The server tried to be very nice at the very end, just before dropping the check. Also, we ran completely out of water. As a former server myself, that is a basic necessity and an indicator of how much of a priority the table is. Completely unacceptable for the price of this restaurant. This is the second time this has happened at this location. I thought maybe my first experience was a fluke and that I should give them a second chance. They will not be getting a third chance unless something drastic happens.
The food and and view were amazing.
Open Table was a little screwed up on timing for tables .We got there at 7:30. Our reservation was for 830 and There was plenty of seating . They sat us right away .
Great food, awesome cocktails with a view over the city of san jose. Very friendly staff. I recommend this restaurant!
Incredible views while sipping on wine from a very good wine list. Dinner - we had a table of 5 we all ordered something different from Lamb chops, prime rib to chicken. Everything was amazing!
My husband had steak, and despite being a picky steak eater, he loved the flavor and it was cooked to perfection. Also had the crispy potatoes & vegetable sides a la carte, which were very basic tasting. I had the lobster spaghetti, which was lovely. Will go back again.
excellent food and service beautiful view. Will come back again
The service was good, the food was okay, (the veggies I ordered was a little on the firm side) Very pricey Ala Carte dining. Definitely a place for special occasions only unless your a lottery winner.
This is the third time I’ve eaten here but it was the most disappointing experience. The service was good as usual but the food was beautifully presented but the flavor was lacking. The prawn cocktail appetizer was good, but the calamari was tough, the lamb didn’t taste like lamb and the lobster pasta was equally flavorless. We skipped coffee and dessert. The view is special but the kitchen has lost the recipe.
Beautiful view and a fun drive up. Sat outside (in November!) and were just fine.
Decided to try the sampler dinner and we’re not disappointed. Fun dishes that we wouldn’t normally have ordered. Portion size was perfect.
One dish was slightly overdone and they remedied that.
Server was prompt and knowledgeable.
We’d go back.
My partner and I always try to make Time for a good meal
And ambiance. This place did not disappoint.

Great view, road up there is pretty scary so don't plan on drinking to much. Had a 22 oz prime rib. A monster. Food is very good service ok. One of those things on my bucket list. Great one time experience. La Forêt on old almaden road is a similar restaurant. Better service and a little better food. Larger menu.
Amazing experience! Will definitely go back for another celebration
Great view, and wonderful food. The servers are attentive without being intrusive.

This place was great! Natalie was really nice and took good care of us!!!!
The food was great and the service was fantastic!
Go there once, for the experience, and yes, the truly grand view of Silicon Valley.
But the food is so-so, about what you could get for less than half the price in Los Gatos, Saratoga, Morgan Hill or Mountain View, etc. The two of us had just a single appetizer or salad each, then one entre, and one drink each, and shared a desert. None of it was bad, but nothing spectacular, and it topped $300. The Palms in Los Gatos or Odeum in Morgan Hill would give better food for half that. But.... you go here for the view ---- and pay an extra $150 per couple for it.
You'll want to be seated outside, because even though the interior also boasts great views, the old building doesn't seem to be running enough air filters to eliminate that musty old-building odor. Meanwhile the canopies and patio heaters outside are very good, and we did not get cold out there despite a late reservation that had us leaving past 10pm in late October.
The service was very good and the staff are all dressed prim and proper -- to blend in at this place, you'll want ladies in dresses and guys in blazers.
So dress up just a little and do the outdoor dining at the Grand View -- once.
Thank you for your feedback, we are thrilled to hear you enjoyed the beautiful views!. It really is something special. Our seasonal menus are always changing, so maybe you will consider trying us at least twice :) :) ? If so please let us know! We would love to welcome you back! On the note of the AC system just wanted to quickly point out that we have a very state of the art system with Covid rated filters along with a uv light purifying system to keep the air quality safe and clean.
Our anniversary dinner! We’ve been going for a couple years now & it never disappoints!

Server was not attentive
The food was delicious, the servers were kind and informative. The place is very comfy and clean. We had a great time and would highly recommend.
We were so disappointed . I’d been looking forward for a long time to take my husband out and even indicated when booking the reservation that it was a special occasion… for the first half an hour it seemed impossible to get the attention of whoever was going to be our waiter! No acknowledgment and I tried several times to make eye contact with any of the service staff that come through the area. Eventually, the manager happened to walk through and caught my eye and asked if everything was okay and he apologized that no waiter had approached our table yet. He took our drink order (which was on the house) and apologized. A little while later the waiter came and apologized and took our food order. When our main course arrived I had wanted to order a glass of wine with it, but again there was no waiter to order with. All together it was super disappointing. On a different note, don’t go up there on a rainy/windy forecasted evening, as the clear “flaps “ were down and the entire outside dining area, although covered, was super noisy due to the “flapping” window covers and very windy and cold. There were heat lamps but not enough for where we were seated.
It was a very romantic dinner! The view is beautiful and food is amazing!
First timer to the Grand View, Came as a recommendation. Our experience was wonderful. The food was amazing, David our server and staff were awesome and on top of their game. Will go back for sure
Went to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. The food was delicious and watching the sunrise out on the patio was extra nice. We will be back again for sure.
Everything was really good, the food was delicious, service was quick and helpful
We ordered the fruitte di mare pasta, and we both got very sick and had terrible headaches.
From the moment we arrived, did not feel like a top tier restaurant - table was not set (had one plate and some random silverware, food on the chair that had to be switched out). Ordered steaks at $75 and had to send back 3 times - one was ordered medium well and as they put it down, said “medium rare” - server didn’t listen/hear, next one was ordered medium and was straight up rare inside - sent back and new one was barely better. Received the bill and they had added another (4th steak) to the bill - “sorry - that’s for inventory reasons, will take it off”. Took it off and then waited more than 10 minutes for the bill to come back with the credit card run thru. Finally on the menu, in the smallest possible writing there is a note that says they will charge 5% “living wage” - I am supportive of this idea, however don’t hide it and have it show up unexpectedly. I was in town taking my college students out for a “parents’s treat” - utterly disappointed - one mistake on either server or kitchen’s hands sometimes happens, several mistakes in the same meal was unacceptable. Perhaps a mom with 3 college kids was not worth the effort…. We have had the luxury of many fine dining experiences. This place is a tourist trap and I fear people with a special occasion to celebrate will be similarly underwhelmed. It is expensive and while some of our food was delicious, too many service fumbles for the inflated menu.
Excellent food and service, gorgeous views, definitely a place for special occasions. We have lived in San Jose areas for over 30 years and only tried this pricey restaurant for the first time. We plan to come back occasionally if only for the views.
The waiters were very knowledgeable.
We sent our son and his gf to GV to celebrate his 18th birthday. The view is unparalleled but they arrived at 8:30 and left at 10:30 and the majority of that time was spent waiting to eat. The calamari was cold on top but warm underneath. To make up for the incredibly long wait for their food, they were given free sodas. For the amount of money the meal cost, I would think a comped dessert would have been appropriate. They did say their entrees were delicious when they finally arrived, they loved the view, and their food server was nice. Maybe the kitchen was just backed up that night, but for a $350+ meal, the dining experience didn’t match the price. Overall, a destination restaurant with a beautiful view and very good food, but will not return.
Great atmosphere, besides the weather it was a beautiful night.
Everyone was delightful
Food was perfect
If you like sparkling city lights this is the place
Thank you for the five star review, on behalf of all of at The Grand View, we appreciate it very much. Eat.Love.Celebrate
I expected more of an abundance of food for the price it is offered at. Especially if we had to wait almost an hour to receive our appetizer and then another half hour for our orders. Going once is good enough for me.
It was an outstanding view and that was the best thing about the place. The food was good not great. My table was dark and I had to use my phone flashlight to see my meal. We had to flag down a bus boy to get pepper and salt for a salad.Didn't get my water refilled. Our waiter was not atentive.
The food was tasty.
