I took mt wife for her birthday and had a good time our waiter was excellent and food was delicious will go back sometime and the views were beautiful try and make it for sunset but city light awesome 💯
If the food was better it would be amazing but the plating and cooking was sloppy. Fantastic views and great location for a romantic setting.
Great staff, great food and amazing views of the valley!
This place is all about the view. Bummer you have to engage in some serious driving up the hill for very average food though. Definitely don’t regret visiting this restaurant one time but no need to return.
I use to like this restaurant and have been there many times over the years. Prices have increased a lot and are now very high. For example, a pasta bolognese dish is $30. Chicken $34-$36. Salad between $14-$17. On top of that, they bury a deceptive charge in the fine print of the menu that says, "4% living wage supplement will be added to each check to help with the recent increases in minimum wage costs." Of course I didn't notice this until I got the bill. Seriously? I won't return due to these deceptive marketing practices.
We split a salad for a starter and were charged a $4 split plate fee. Never before have I seen that fee charged on anything other than an entree!
The waiter never offered us pepper on our $20 salad.
Management responded to my comment on Yelp about the deceptive fee and said, "Because restaurants work on a tight margin, this is trend that is rapidly growing in our industry out of a genuine need to offset the bottom line." All restaurants are faced with the same increase in minimum wage and the vast majority do NOT add a "living wage" into the fine print. It simply increases the complexity of your customer's lives (e.g. to split meal costs), deceptively prices menu items, and it is simply very tacky for an upscale restaurant to do this. This so called "trend", which I have only seen one other time, does not make it right and it should not be practiced by a business with conscientious business practices. If they need to offset higher costs, simply raise prices and be upfront rather than burying deceptive fees into the menu.
Seem business ownership changed. Not as good overall
Celebration of husband’s 50th birthday. Venue was wonderful, especially the sunset and evening lights. Service was excellent. My negative is the food. Appetizers were okay. Shrimp was over cooked. Calimara was excellent, batter was light and crisp. My husband enjoyed his steak. My daughter’s swordfish was cold. The most disappointing was my lobster carbonara. The lobster was so over I could not cut into it with a steak knife. We sent it back, the new one was a better texture but sooooo salty. I did not send it back again but could not eat it. The pasta part was perfect. As I said disappointed.
Went here for our anniversary and had the 5 course meal. The meals were very tiny, but I guess that is normal when you are getting 5 different meals. I fully enjoyed everything the food was very flavorful. The staff was very helpful and very nice. It was clean and cool. The outside heat stayed there. My husband and I had a really great time, the only thing that would suggest changing is the piano music maybe change the pace of the music. It sometimes sounded like it would put me to sleep because we both had food coma. Pricing was okay but I don't know if it was worth $105. But I honestly would return because I really appreciated the staff and the food was good. Thank you for your service.
We had our reservation for 5:00 pm for a special dinner out. My crab stuffed salmon was very good but my husband's prime rib was ok. For dinner, two drinks, 1 appetizer and 1 dessert, we spent $213.00. I think it was a bit much. The customer service was great and the food was fine but would not return.
What an amazing gem hidden in the foothills of San Jose.
Perfect for a relaxing evening. Service was great. Staff is great.
Louis made our anniversary very special. Our first time there & we will be back!! Steaks are HUGE!! Only thing missing was S&P on the tables. Didn’t have alcohol but all the drinks looked amazing.
Our waiter was fantastic. Was very knowledgable of the area, positioning of the planets and pointed them out to us, even snapped some pictures for us. Food was great and the drinks were on point.
Enjoy amazing views and amazing food! Most of the food is grown on the property on their organic farm. We love going here for a date night and any special occasion.
I’ve been going to Grandview for 20 years....
the changes are nice, but way too expensive.... the service was good, but I ordered a coffee that took 15 mins. Three reminders and was cold when I finally got it. My food was cold and didn’t taste great. Of course the view is amazing and everyone needs to see it. But I probably won’t be back.
Eat. Love. Celebrate.
The Grandview Restaurant (GV) is on track for a Michelin star. We have been coming here for many years, and since 2015 have seen efforts by brothers Giuseppe and Maurizio to transform this historic location and corresponding 'Grandview Farms' property into a amazing Bay Area dining experience (their motto is 'eat-love-celebrate').
On our most recent visit in late August 2018 we saw substantial investments since January that simply delighted us (beyond our expectations) in the areas of leadership, staffing/ training, menu offering, GV Farms content, cocktails and wines, venue improvements (music, parking, tables, physical menu, and wine offering).
GV has brought on a rock-star GM (Ilya Shnayder), who along with Chef Miguel Valesquez dramatically improved the menu in terms of variety of dishes, increased Grandview Farms (cage-free eggs, melons fruits and vegetables) content, added fun dishes (the Chef's Playground), a five-course sampler with two choices of wine pairings, and lighter faire (GV Beets Salad, Dungeness Crab Salad, Blue Point Oysters) - in addition to their classics (Seafood Sampler, Oyster Rockefeller, Cowboy & Tomahawk Steaks, Lobster Carbonara and home-made pastas).
The outdoor deck complements indoor seating and offers a 5-star view of the valley and the solar system from every seat, sparkling clean glass tables, live music. Easy conversation levels. Plenty of heaters standing by for your comfort.
Grandview has an amazing bar and a fine selection of wines and champagnes (with a special focus on Northern CA wines) with an appropriate selection of after dinner drinks (love a Ruby port).
Now on to the future. At GV we met with Sarena Ackley (who knows GV inside and out and who blew us away with her passion and knowledge of GV) told us that GV Farms is opening up for Bay Area companies to engage with GV and their employees and companies in interesting ways. Wow!
Had a very nice evening. Love the outside seating!!! Service was great!!!
Good food not exceptional. Drinks were very good.
The view are awesome.
Our waitress was very attentive.
The View is Grand, I will give it that even though we went on a night that was fogged in. The drive there was a bit slow as the roads are so narrow and windy that the fastest you can drive is about 10 -15 mph so allow yourself some extra travel time. The service was FANTASTIC. The waiters/waitresses all greet you and are very friendly. They all are very knowledgeable about their dishes and their description of the food makes your mouth water...perhaps that is why I was so let down? I ordered the cowboy steak, my husband the prime-rib (which states on the menu is their house specialty). Long story short, my husband said he has had better prime Rib at the Outback and that place isn't great! For $49 it should melt in your mouth. It was full of gristle. He isn't one to complain but he said he had to let them know. They were very apologetic and offered him another cut but he was turned off at that point so he declined. My cowboy steak was just OK. If I am paying top dollar ($54) I also want it to be spectacular and if fell well short of that. It was tough and just flavorless. The evening was a bit of a disappointment for us. The views, if it were a clear night would have been beautiful; if you go with that expectation than you are ahead. The food was just OK, not worth the price IMO.
Bad seat next to kitchen
Beautiful scenic views. I would go ther again. The wait staff was excellent. Love my tommy hawk steak.
My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. One aspect that I consider very important is service and attentiveness apart from the food of course. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. The courses were brought out on a timely manner and the food was very well prepared.
The only disappointment was that one of the dishes my wife was looking forward to (lamb shops) was not available.
We will definitely go back, we want to try the lamb shops.
It was a great!!
Great view, nice foods and kind people.
Love the place, love the food, love the service, was a romantic setting to celebrating our anniversary. looking forward to returning again.
First timers for our 1 year anniversary and we had a good time. Great food and drinks and great service and the view is beautiful especially during the sunset
Wonderful location and view, excellent service and I liked the way I was explained about the each dish We ordered. It was a perfect dining experience !!! Forgot to mention, culmination of my dinner with coffee was the best..don’t forget to get a coffee.
The ambience is what this restaurant is all about. It’s a take back to the 1950’s with waiters in tuxes and the dark piano bar. The view is what it’s all about. The food was good, however, expensive. It’s known for large portion steaks and prime rib. The fish was also very good. We will definitely go back.
View is spectacular. Food is fair. Wine has high mark-up. It was a birthday celebration which was on the reservation. They brought dessert without a candle. I had to remind the server, less than ideal.
Excellent as always! Love the gift cards at Costco!!!!
Overall a very very good experience.
Cocktails: Excellent, made to perfection. Only recommendation would be to use a single large ice cube for their Old Fashioned. Other than that it was delicious!
Appetizer: Ordered Calamari: Yummy!
Main course to share: ordered the 100 dollar Tomahawk. Ordered Medium, came out more on the over cooked side so some of the cut was tough/dry.
Dessert: ordered the cheesecake: not good, was dry and didn't have that creamy texture I look forward to in a cheesecake :/ according to the waitress, they made a change to the recipe.
Would I come back again? Yes but will try the Cowboy Ribeye next time.
The only negative is that the ballet parking went through my stuff in my car. And they are not supposed to..
Shame on that guy. I’m reporting him.
Parents 40th Anniversary was wonderful! The service was excellent, the food delicious and of course, the view spectacular. Our parents were very impressed and had a great time. Thank you Grand View!!!
From the moment you walk in you are greeted with a smile. All the waiters, servers, etc are very welcoming. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and it was the best. We didn't feel rushed and the view was amazing.
This is a lovely restaurant with a terrific view. The food was good as was the service. The only problem was the drive up and back which is dangerous.
We went there on a friends recommendation. I made a reservation and included a note that it was our 45th wedding anniversary. No one mentioned our special occasion. The restaurant itself is very nice. Very elegant with wait staff in tuxedos. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Five stars for them. The food was okay . My steak was just slightly over cooked and my wife’s chicken had the skin on and it was soggy, not crispy. However, the flavor was phenomenal. Food was not a deal breaker. Prices are what was expected and overall, I’d go back again.
Arrived just as the sun was setting. Parking was easy, found a space quickly. The ride up is easy if you keep your foot off the gas. Seated within 10 minutes. What a view!! Service was prompt and fun. Menu was reasonably priced considering the location and ambiance. Food was good, not over the top, but good. What struck us most was that, for the most part, people were dressed up. Sport coats, a few ties, and the ladies wearing dresses and heels. Of course there were a few tee shirts and jeans, but they looked out of place. This is an upscale place for a special dinner.
Great view. Great service. Good food. Traffic heavy on weekdays but worth the drive.
Fabulous food and gorgeous views but on the pricey side.
If you like to drink a cosmo try the mango. It was delicious, but a little sweet. Fresh vegetables from their farm, always a hit. Dessert has to be their cheesecake (secret family recipe), I don't like cheesecake but this was amazing (too bad they don't sell it whole). Best time to go is sunset - the view of the city is gorgeous. I love coming here when I get to splurge.
Great view and service. Food was excellent.
Father’s birthday celebration
our server was excellent and so great and explaining the menu!!
