Wait staff did a great job, food was nothing special. Disappointed in the beet salad, 6 very thinly sliced beets, and greens. My husbands meat was a bit over cooked, and his potatoes and veggies were not hot. We let all know that it was our anniversary, and maybe they could have comped the dessert. We were surprised at the wine menu, with a half glass/full glass, which was confusing to us. Our waiter, Rob, (who did a great job) had to explain it to us. We do usually order wine, and that was quite different. We were disappointed.
The Maitre d was fantastic...however, the waitress did not give us our drinks , we had
to ask her 3 times for our soda. The soda was flat and the waitress comments were not
appropriate... our meal was 1 hr after our appetizer. Waitress was quick to ask for the tab
to be taken care of 3 times within 5 min.
Our waiter was amazing , service was great .
Our waiter Louis definitely did a great job serving our table but on the other hand the food quality was just poor. Steak MR came MW. Lobster was way too salty. But our waiter did all the efforts to accommodate. View/atmosphere is just amazing. Worth of driving. I will give 5 starts overall all just because of the environment and professional/friendly service by Louis. Otherwise, no comment.
The steaks were great, seafood average. The bread was top tier and the chocolate tart
was excellent. I wish the creamed spinach was still available. Last time there i had it
and it was the best I've had in along time. Plus it's very Keto.
Thanks I will return.
Amazing view of silicon valley! fantastic location, featuring two dining rooms and a bar.
The view and food are excellent service is some of the best had in a while. the only problem eating outside is the flies. Could use a screen or a type of candle to repel them.
This is a fancy restaurant. They say they have a dress code, but I saw some patrons in jeans and Hawaiian shirts. I would still dress nice to eat here. A nice shirt and jeans with boots or something. The staff was amazing. Very polite. They knew what was going on, they explained the menu. Very interactive with us. The food was amazing. Great seasoning although it may have been a bit too seasoned. Still great though. I had the Prime Rib. Cooked perfectly. This place is very pricey. 3 people and our bill was over $200. But you pay for what you get. Totally worth the windy drive up. Definitely going back again.
The waitstaff did everything to work with us on our restricted food diet. So awesome!
The food here is always wonderful. Most of the items are directly from their local farm. I've had the Filet, Cowboy, and Tomhawk steaks and each time I couldn't wait to finish it. My wife has gotten the veal and the chicken and loved them both. We recently tried the risotto appetizer it was delicious. The mozzarella on the caprese salad is amazing as well. I can't really say enough about this restaurant. I've been here 4-5 times for special occasions and keep recommending it for all my friends.
Before the new owners, you would go to Grandview for the view and the food was ok.
When the new owners first reopened, I told everyone tha now the food was as good as the view. Over the last year or two I’ve noticed a move towards Gormet food with Gormet pricing.
For Me, I liked the food better when they first reopened much better, and the prices too! However it seems that the demographic who has lots of disposable income and Gormet tastes are loving it. The restaurant was packed on a Wednesday night. Also, there used to be music in Wednesday nights, but no more it seems.
The view is spectacular and I would recommend everyone to at least once for that.
Such a great experience!!! For sure we are coming back with the family.
My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful time here. The service and the food was the best, and it instantly became a special place for us. We even imagined what a wedding would be like!
Really nice, good food but pricey
Great meal. Great view. Great drinks. Take the drive up the hill slow, watch for bikers.
We had the micro salad that was grown on their farm and it was outstanding. The chicken and lamb chops were delicious and well prepared . The accompanying vegetables and mashed potatoes were cold and disappointing . Their homemade cheese cake was excellent. Unfortunately we made the mistake of simply asking the waitress to recommend a glass of wine . We never said your best glass of wine. The wine she recommended to go with my meal was appropriately priced at 15$. For my fiancé she recommended a 96$ glass of wine which she did not give us a heads up about the price. We were shocked when we got the bill and the glass of wine was three times the price of my chicken dish. We dine out at fine restaurants frequently and never have had this kind of experience. The manager told us they train their waitresses not to “insult “ the patrons by mentioning prices . Recommending a 96$ glass of wine and not telling your patron is poor and unacceptable . We were shocked when we got the bill and very unhappy . It ruined my birthday dinner when we had to deal with this . Our experience is when a price is out of the ordinary the patron is informed so they can make a decision. Therefore their philosophy in our opinion is poor customer care.
I love this place! I have since my early years. Amazing
The food was great with one exception. We were there for Mother's Day. The menu was a fixed menu with several courses. The soup or salad choices were both excellent (Mexican Caesar and Leek Soup). The main courses were salmon, gnocchi and filet. All but one of us had the gnocchi and it was fantastic! Very light and fluffy like they are supposed to be. The sauce that went over them was also great. One person had the filet. Normally they are great but this one came out raw even though the person ordered medium. After very politely sending it back and asking for pink...the filet came back still raw inside. Basically no difference. This was the only bummer. But all the rest of the food was great and the service from Chui was outstanding.
Didn’t realize it was a fixed menu for Mother’s Day. Way over priced $80 per person and the food was cold and not well prepared. Flies were invading us and we were inside. My dessert came in a plastic cup!!! So disappointed as we’ve been wanting to try it.
Great view and food, tough combo to beat. The live music was a nice touch. We definetly will return.
The Appetizers and the food were awesome!
Great meal - especially the Prime Rib, and the service was excellent.
Occasion was a birthday celebration dinner for my husband. Very professional and attentive wait staff and the food was outstanding. Pacing of service was relaxed and good - there was proper spacing/time between the courses. When the food arrived, it was hot and properly prepared. Menu is varied - traditional American with a variety of steaks/chops/seafood/pasta dishes The available wine selection paired nicely with the food items on the menu and were quite good. Best part is the ambience with the fabulous view overlooking San Jose and the valley. It is slightly on the pricey side, but then again, you get what you pay for and it was worth it. We will be coming back here again.
Quite disappointing, the view is fantastic, the drive horrendous and the food mediocre.
I had been looking forward to dining here for months. A special occasion of two couples sharing the same anniversary date. The food was only exceptional in the high price. Final insult they offered us a desert to celebrate our anniversaries then we saw we had paid for it on the bill.
I took my extra gift cards back to Costco for a refund.
It is a bit pricey only because the food is good but not great. But for the view, service, and the atmosphere, makes it worth it.
Went there for anniversary dinner. Totally loved the food and the grand view this restaurant offered.
Exceptional view! We were lucky enough to nab a great table at the patio; both of us had fantastic views. Note that patio seating is "first come, first served", so plan accordingly.
Top notch service, excellent fresh food, perfect place for a leisurely meal to celebrate a special occasion.
Food and service were excellent! Remarkable view! Great selection of wines by the glass!
Very good food and beautiful view great place to take your girl too or family waiters were really good at attending ur every needs lobsters tails were bomb
Beautiful view and wonderfully delicious meal, definitely pricey, but considering everything had to be either grown on their farm or transported (not particularly convenient), it was probably priced accordingly. A salad took Way too Long to come, which seemed a little funny. Cocktails were special, our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly and the live musician was enjoyable. Overall we loved celebrating a birthday at a new spot. We'll be back for a future special occasion.
Fabulous restaurant experience! Outstanding food selection & taste. The staff was outstanding. And views... amazing views of the city lights of Silicon Valley. Highly recommend for special occasions such as a birthday!
Best view in San Jose. Fancy and classy. Breathtaking scenery. Really remarkable. Food was savory.
Beautiful view. Amazing find in a quiet surrounding
View Oh view....... it was the best. But, the food and service were excellent too. We will come back.
Amazing restaurant with great view!
will recommend with a caveat..................... it's been a long while since I sent my food back....but my veal chap and mashed potatoes arrive cold............
if you are going to have salad and pasta, split them--too large a portions for one individual
I rediscovered Grand View on OpenTable last winter. As its name suggests, ambiance is Grand View's top offering, and you pay a premium for it. My wintertime indoor visit was simply not worthy of an encore, but I nonetheless wanted to experience dining outside on Grand View's large deck once the warm weather returned.
With the long range forecast showing temperatures in the 80s, I made reservations via OpenTable for last night well in advance, and specifically requested outdoor seating in my note. When I arrived on time I was told I could be seated inside immediately, or wait 45 minutes to sit outside, and was told outside seating is allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. This was very disappointing given these facts:
1) There was a "reserved" placard on an outside table, so some diners are more equal than others, and aren't subject to the first-come, first-serve rule.
2) OpenTable can technically handle reservations for different types of seating. Test out Vino Locale in Palo Alto and see the indoor/outdoor choice.
3) I was never contacted by Grand View in advance to alert me that my seating request might not be satisfied.
4) Neither on Grand View's website nor its note to diners on the OpenTable reservation page is the seating policy ever mentioned. Restaurants like Palacio in Los Gatos at least gave fair warning of their seating policy.
There's just too great of a difference in dining experience between inside and outside to leave it to chance. You either have to wait or be someone/know someone. It defeats the entire purpose of making a reservation in the first place. I won't be returning until they can get this right.
Second time and consistently amazing. The view and food are both incredible.
Great view great service but the food is highly overpriced.
Excellent food and excellent service, and great view. The ambiance was wonderful. I appreciate dining in an adult atmosphere with no TVs and a low noise level. Enjoyed the piano music after dinner in the bar. Outstanding drinks! I am looking forward to going back soon.
