The corn and black bean soup starter was very bland. I would not order that again. The salmon entree and poppers were delicious. I love the ambience and decor.
We went for Sunday morning brunch. The food and service were excellent. There was a Jazz band playing and they were exceptional.
Terrific brunch just before a GREAT show at the Fabulous Fox.
Great restaurant!! Food is so good and the service is wonderful! Will definitely eat there again
We stayed at Angad Arts Hotel for the weekend and thought we would try Grand Tavern, located in the hotel. We enjoyed our meals. My husband had the aged sirloin steak; it was especially delicious. I had a fish dish, and it was okay. Could have used a sauce or more seasoning. We were served two tiny brownies at end of meal, complimentary. That was a nice surprise. The meal was a little pricey, but that's to be expected at a higher end restaurant.
Great place. Food was delicious. I would suggest adding a pasta dish. I noticed that on Mondays the special is pasta and in my opinion you can never go wrong with pasta. I tend to lean to more vegetarian style so a pasta would certainly add to that. Great place
The noise was so loud that I couldn't hear the person next to me. Very price for a very casual place. The hostess asked if we had been there before and we said no. I also said so this is your first impression I trust you will find us the perfect spot. We sat at the "chef table" very busy. The sample food wasn't that great. Most likely I won't be back.
Food and drink delicious with creative presentation with wings & rings as well as the clothesline bacon! The Grand hatten ( play on the Manhattan) with gold flecks on the perfect cherry and Old Fashion were both deliciously made but a little pricey. Since the appetizers and welcome popover were so filling the chef created a lighter dinner fare of shrimp & grits instead of the fixe price Theater dinner for us. Service needs to pick up as we waited for bar service a little longer than one would expect! We made it to the Theatre without issue after making a 5:45 reservation for dinner. We will dine again in a couple of weeks before our next show!
Food good, service good, noise level very very loud.
Pricy for ambiance...it’s seems like it’s trying too hard to be a five star restaurant when it’s not.
It’s in a great location, walking distance to the Fox, Powel Hall and the Sheldon.
I definitely will be back. Everything was excellent. We loved the popovers. Food was wonderful and presentation was great. Waitress was remarkable.
Restaurant was spacious and clean. Service was outstanding. Food presentation was appealing and great taste.
This is a charming enterprise in an area so in need of a great place to have a drink or a nosh before a show! I feel the entrees are a bit overpriced, perhaps an additional item or two in the $20 range is appropriate? Also a more moderately priced wine by the glass? The tuna tartar and salmon starter were shared and both delicious. An added Caesar Salad was my dinner because i couldn't find an entree that enticed.
Brunch at Grand tavern was outstanding. The eggs benedict were the best I have ever had. Service was great! It's now my favorite restaurant for dining in Grand Center.
Impressive spot, I will have to try the dinner hour. Valet in the rear so easy. My grandson said “the whole hotel is a work of art” I think he is right.
Great experience overall, you should get the bacon and you should pair it with the Little Gem & Beet salad. Also, everyone at the table will get a Gruyere popover the size of your head so just keep that in mind when you're ordering. Everyone at our table loved the angry broccoli, hipster fries are good but heavy. If you want to try the patented steak ageing technique - don't get the porterhouse, just get the filet. Service was great, and we'll be saving room for dessert the next time. Be sure to check out the rooftop bar after dinner!
Family get together
The food and service was excellent. For a restaurant of this quality it is amazing to have the decor/ ambiance really pathetic. It is rare to experience food of this quality is such poor decor. The lack of ambiance almost ruined the meal!
The whole staff was really friendly, the place is attractive but the food and drinks are way overpriced for the quality
Milestone celebration. Interesting and excellent food from the ritz. Cracker Benedict with quail egg and crab or the pastrami cured salmon. Our mains ran the gamut from beautifully prepared branding to black linguine. Great value but be prepared to spend $75 to $100 per person if you do the full cocktail, starter, main, wine, and dessert.
We had a divine lunch! The menu is incredible it was challenging to settle on one thing. Such creative and tasty dishes!
So happy to have such a great place for dinner within walking distance of The Fox, Powell, the Sheldon, Grandel Theater, and other great Grand Arts events!!
Popovers are a very tasty treat.
My branzino was outstanding. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. What made it stand out though, was the combination of flavors on the plate...hummus/tapenade/pico ....
Service was attentive and prompt/professional.
A lot of potential but poor execution
The food was generally impressive however the inattentive staff that took too long to take orders, fill glasses and clear plates.
The place was noisy with harsh lighting which only amplified the sound each of the 6 times a staff member dropped something on the ground.
The wine selection was limited and overpriced so were the cocktails.
Given the lack of overall experience the food was overpriced too.
Which is a shame because the menu and food was good generally speaking.
For both my wife and I we found the menu to be somewhat limited. Our personal taste is a bit more basic. It appeared most entrees included a “purée” of sorts. We instead moved to the “simply” entrees and selected the salmon, which was simply prepared and was the solo item on our plate. We split two sides, green beans and a potato/onion ring combo. Food was well prepared and tasty. But it was the service that brought the star total. It was not as fluid or attentive as I would have preferred. My impression was the wait staff were not that experienced. At times just moving about. In time, I do think this will be the “go to” restaurant in the area. We’ll give it another shot.
Disappointed. Hopefully it was an off night. The food was wonderful, but the service at this price point was was definitely lacking. Our appetizer was forgotten, no one checked back for satisfaction on our entries, we sat without our preordered desserts for 15 minutes, no mention of coffee or after dinner drinks, and we sat for quite somtime with empty cocktails. When all of this was mentioned, everything was glossed over. I think that they just got it all wrong.
Wonderful meal in a unique setting
Amazing food and service! A great addition to the Grand Center area!!
A little loud for comfortable conversation
Server seemed to have too many tables, didn't time his actions well all of the time
Food was interesting and good, rolls impressive
Everything was delicious! Presentation was beautiful.
So great to have a nice dining option before a show at the Fox. This was our first visit and we were very impressed. Great food and beverage menu. Food was outstanding. Service was very good. Our only complaint was the close proximity of the tables...a little too close for our liking. Other than that it was perfect.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! The atmosphere in the dining room is lacking, but the service and food made up for it!
Outstanding food, drinks, wine, and service. Rivals the best restaurants in Boston and D.C, top resturant in St Louis.
Fantastic place! The service was great and everyone was friendly. We loved the food, it was unique. It was an enjoyable evening.
We began our birthday celebration at the bar with expertly, handcrafted Manhattans. Then when our table was ready, we split some delicious raw oysters. We split the ribeye and squid pasta which was prepared perfectly whilst sipping Beaujolais.
I wanted to love this restaurant. Our server and the manager completely ruined our experience. Despite arriving an hour early for our reservation and the room having half a dozen tables available, we were not seated until after our reservation time. It was downhill from there. Our server appeared completely overwhelmed, running frantically from one table to the kitchen and back disappearing completely for long stretches of time. My ‘lobster’ bisque had exactly zero pieces of lobster. My steak was completely undercooked and I was left sitting with an inedible $$ steak for a good 15 min before our server made it over. I ended up eating part of my husbands and declined a ‘refire’ Of mine. I say ‘refire’ because with the price of the steak, comparable restaurants typically wait at the table to ensure the temperature is correct and if it is not they will make you a NEW steak. The manager then came over and unprofessionally inquired as to why I no longer wanted my steak leaving me feeling as if it were my fault for not wanting to eat a steak I had not ordered. After which my prefix dessert was delivered (which was delicious!) however our server failed to return before we finished at which point she asked if we wanted coffee. We were now 3 hours into our night and just wanted to leave. Coffee would have been amazing with our gooey butter donut dessert. But that ship had long sailed. They did (finally) comp our wine but we were not made aware of this until the check was delivered. The correct thing to do would have been for the manager to inform us of the comp and ask if they could get us anything else. Instead we were left to sit and question how these issues would be remedied with empty wine glasses because we didn’t want to wait another 20 min for a glass of wine.
Long story short... good food but sit at the bar where you have access to a bartender who can provide drinks and fix any food issues you may have. Especially if you’re trying to make a show.
Service was extremely slow which wasn't the waitress's fault. They were understaffed. It took 2 1/2 hours to get our food. At one point, we were served the wrong food and it was taken away. We watched people who came in after us being served. We didn't get any explanations why this happened and no apologies from anyone except out waitress. It was my birthday and my expectations were so high. It was so disappointing, we didn't even go up to the nice lounge and rooftop as we planned. A simple apology would have made a world of difference.
We had an 8 PM reservation but did not get seated for about 20 minutes. They were obviously short staffed. It was a few minutes before our waiter stopped by. They didn't come back after dropping off the main course, I wanted to add a side item but it was too late before they returned. It took a long time for someone to come back to take our dessert order. Very disappointed in the service. The food itself was just above average. The standout was the clothesline bacon. I had the bison short ribs, while tender it was a small serving size. The baked Alaska was ok. I am assuming we caught them on a bad night because the experience wasnt close to what we have had at other restaurants at the same price point.
Some of the best food I have ever had. The pop overs are to die for. Recommend the lobster steak.
