Every part of the experience is handcrafted from the artwork on the walls to the plating of the food. The food was rich, elegant, delectable. Enjoyed every taste from the wine and popovers to entrees and sides.
Really enjoyed the music, the menu selection for both food and drink was fantastic.
Really enjoyed ourselves.
Service was wonderful.
Waiting to get menus and drinks was ridiculous. Once we ordered our food things were pretty quick. I want this place to do well but they have to step up their service. At least get the water poured.
Food was somewhat underwhelming for the price. I'd go back for cocktails, not for a meal.
It was outstanding. The server, John was exceptional. Cocktails before on the rooftop were a fabulous way to start the evening. Highly recommend.
I cannot recommend the restaurant to my friend, overpriced and the dining room really lacks any ambiance
What a wonderful restaurant - the food, the service and ambiance were great - our favorite place to dine in St. Louis! And right next to the Symphony and several other theaters. The chefs were really nice - and VERY talented. We’d go back in a heartbeat!
Amazing experience! We sat at the chef's table next to the kitchen so they brought out a few extra items. Delicious food! You could tell everything was made with love. Our server was adorable as well. We also appreciated the other staff members who stopped by to speak with us. Great experience!
We sat at the Chef table. Chef Robert came to our table and helped us directly. Jon, our waiter, was outstanding. He paid close attention to every detail. And, his latte was a 10 over a 10. Dana received us professionally. She also encouraged to visit the hotel terrace.
We had an early dinner before a show at Fox Theatre. We expected a little bit more upscale place based off the prices we saw online. The overall decor and atmosphere is very casual. I had a salmon dish that was very good and my husband and daughter both got the plain filet. They said it was good but nothing special. I thought the service was great, as expected for a high end restaurant. As it got closer to "regular" dinner time the restaurant became crowded and very loud. Overall, I would probably go again if in the area and do recommend for a pre-theatre meal but arrive early.
Tasteless Caesar salad. Extremely fatty pork shank. Uninspiring burger.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Great Bloody Mary's.
I guess it just did not live up to the hype. The very expensive steaks were brought out cold, the branzino was less than a taste treat. Overall, very very expensive—not wort it.
We were seated right away which was nice. Once we were sat at our table, it took them about 10-15 minutes before we even got a server. Then it took her about another 15 minutes to come back and ask us if we were ready to order. Keep in mind that after you order, you’re supposed to get bread almost immediately. We saw people order after us and get their bread immediately but it took us about another 15-20 minutes after we ordered to get our bread and then right as we got our bread, our food came out which means there was almost no point to the bread. The food was alright tasting for the price. I don’t know if I would go back just because of how poor the service was. I would’ve loved to enjoy it more but we were constantly waiting on our server and she only had maybe 2 more tables and they were both 2 person tables. I believe that most servers think that the younger people aren’t going to be as nice so they don’t serve us as well but in reality, I always tip about 30-35% if the service is good, but last night with the poor service, I tipped 15%
wonderful food and service. Diverse but pricey menu. everything we ordered was delicious
My mother and I made a 5:45 reservation and were seated right away. The hostess and server were very attentive and asked about food allergies. My mother is extremely allergic to shellfish so that was appreciated. We ordered from the Prix fixe menu as we were told this is specifically for patrons that wanted a full dining experience but still be out in time for the show. (We had fox tickets for 7:30. ).Drinks and popovers came out very quickly and were delicious. We got our salads around 6:30, and plates were cleared right away. But then we had to wait for our main course. At 7:00 pm I finally asked and the hostess she said it should be soon. I reminded her we had a 7:30 show. Our main course didn't come out until 7:10. We didn't have time for dessert. However, I appreciate that the hostess realized how time crunched we were and made another reservation for after the show so we could come back for dessert. Unfortunately, my mother was too tired to stay out later so we weren't able to come back over.
Overall the food was great, I had the shrimp and filet. I felt like I couldn't enjoy it as we were rushed by the time our main course came out. I would come back once they figure out their timing and service but for the normal person wanting to go to the symphony or the fox, it takes too long!
This has been one of the worst dining experiences we've had in recent memory. Except for our server, who was very courteous, our entire experience was very unpleasant. When we were seated at our table, we were promptly informed that we had to move to the bar/lounge because they couldn't serve us Happy Hour items in the dining room. (This, after we called them the evening prior to inquire specifically whether Happy Hour was allowed in the dining room. The person who answered the phone said yes, and then proceeded to ask another person, who was next to her, who also said yes. Had they told us no, we would not have made reservations to begin with, period.) After we moved to the bar and lounge area, which we understood to be the front of the restaurant (keep in mind, this was our first-ever visit), the manager made a snippy comment and told us that we were (once again) seated in the wrong spot, but that she was tired of playing musical chairs, so she was going to let us sit there, after all. After a welcome like that, how were we supposed to enjoy the rest of our dinner, which was mediocre, to say the least?
Really nice atmosphere. Live music on Sunday was great. The food and service were both very nice. There is something for everyone on the menu. I love the surprises they bring to the table! Will definately go back and would suggest to others.
Good was good, overpriced good and drink. After 20 mins our leftover food was " disguarded". We had half of both our meal and sides left. Felt ripped off! Won't be back.
We were so excited to dine here yet by the end of it we wondered why we had bothered. Menu was pretentious and poorly typeset so menu items were difficult comprehend. My main dish was fish (Branzino) with hummus and a sauce. The fish was 6 x 3 inches and an 1/8 inch thick with a teaspoon of hummus, black olives and vinegrette. Really?! It was tasteless. The popovers were huge but over baked and salty. Best thing about the meal was the small sweet treats delivered at the end.
The corn and black bean soup starter was very bland. I would not order that again. The salmon entree and poppers were delicious. I love the ambience and decor.
Outstanding food, knowledgeable friendly waiter. Highly recommend the tuna tartare as an appetizers. Can’t go wrong with any steak on the menu.
Wait staff was very good and it was a quiet room being Monday night. Nothing especially wrong, but would not consider it exceptional. I had the clothesline bacon and branzino. Both were prepared well but don’t leave me with an overwhelming experience. Again nothing especially critical, definitely a nice place!
We went for Sunday morning brunch. The food and service were excellent. There was a Jazz band playing and they were exceptional.
Terrific brunch just before a GREAT show at the Fabulous Fox.
Great restaurant!! Food is so good and the service is wonderful! Will definitely eat there again
We stayed at Angad Arts Hotel for the weekend and thought we would try Grand Tavern, located in the hotel. We enjoyed our meals. My husband had the aged sirloin steak; it was especially delicious. I had a fish dish, and it was okay. Could have used a sauce or more seasoning. We were served two tiny brownies at end of meal, complimentary. That was a nice surprise. The meal was a little pricey, but that's to be expected at a higher end restaurant.
Great place. Food was delicious. I would suggest adding a pasta dish. I noticed that on Mondays the special is pasta and in my opinion you can never go wrong with pasta. I tend to lean to more vegetarian style so a pasta would certainly add to that. Great place
The noise was so loud that I couldn't hear the person next to me. Very price for a very casual place. The hostess asked if we had been there before and we said no. I also said so this is your first impression I trust you will find us the perfect spot. We sat at the "chef table" very busy. The sample food wasn't that great. Most likely I won't be back.
The food was absolutely outstanding. If this were for food only, it would be an easy five star review. Just go, eat all the things. Don't miss the dry aged steak, I mean, that's the thing you're there for. The brussel sprouts were phenomenal too. And the gooey butter donuts, just eat them.
The service was actually very good...AFTER the theater crowd cleared out. Until then, it was pretty awful. We sat for a long time with nothing. Not even water. And getting the first round of drinks took forever. Took a while to order. Because of the delay, we were there for two and a half hours and the first thirty minutes was with no drinks and very little attention. But, once the theater crowd left, service was impeccable. Great recommendations, very attentive, very kind. We even got a free dessert.
Here's what bothered me. I made a reservation a month in advance and noted we were celebrating a birthday and yet, we were not seated in the dining room but instead shoved at a small table in the bar room. It couldn't fit all our food and drinks, we were so cramped. It was uncommonly windy and the door was open half the time, it was so flippin' cold! We were staying in the hotel so we didn't have jackets or anything to put on because we'd come from inside. It felt like we were an afterthought. If I hadn't made a reservation, sure. But when you make a reservation and spend $300 on a dinner for two, I'd expect better.
They're new. They're working out the kinks. But those are indeed, the kinks you might experience.
Food and drink delicious with creative presentation with wings & rings as well as the clothesline bacon! The Grand hatten ( play on the Manhattan) with gold flecks on the perfect cherry and Old Fashion were both deliciously made but a little pricey. Since the appetizers and welcome popover were so filling the chef created a lighter dinner fare of shrimp & grits instead of the fixe price Theater dinner for us. Service needs to pick up as we waited for bar service a little longer than one would expect! We made it to the Theatre without issue after making a 5:45 reservation for dinner. We will dine again in a couple of weeks before our next show!
Food good, service good, noise level very very loud.
Pricy for ambiance...it’s seems like it’s trying too hard to be a five star restaurant when it’s not.
It’s in a great location, walking distance to the Fox, Powel Hall and the Sheldon.
I definitely will be back. Everything was excellent. We loved the popovers. Food was wonderful and presentation was great. Waitress was remarkable.
Restaurant was spacious and clean. Service was outstanding. Food presentation was appealing and great taste.
This is a charming enterprise in an area so in need of a great place to have a drink or a nosh before a show! I feel the entrees are a bit overpriced, perhaps an additional item or two in the $20 range is appropriate? Also a more moderately priced wine by the glass? The tuna tartar and salmon starter were shared and both delicious. An added Caesar Salad was my dinner because i couldn't find an entree that enticed.
Brunch at Grand tavern was outstanding. The eggs benedict were the best I have ever had. Service was great! It's now my favorite restaurant for dining in Grand Center.
Impressive spot, I will have to try the dinner hour. Valet in the rear so easy. My grandson said “the whole hotel is a work of art” I think he is right.
Great experience overall, you should get the bacon and you should pair it with the Little Gem & Beet salad. Also, everyone at the table will get a Gruyere popover the size of your head so just keep that in mind when you're ordering. Everyone at our table loved the angry broccoli, hipster fries are good but heavy. If you want to try the patented steak ageing technique - don't get the porterhouse, just get the filet. Service was great, and we'll be saving room for dessert the next time. Be sure to check out the rooftop bar after dinner!
