Good neighborhood restaurant with an excellent bar. Get the fries with all the stuff in them. Delicious
Had the seared scallop risotto - amazing! Wonderful truffle taste, the ultimate comfort food. As always, service was friendly, and the cranberry manhattan boozy slushy was lovely.
The savory French toast is out of this world delicious and such a unique blending of textures and flavors. Second time I’ve been there, ordered it both times and was thoroughly delighted with it!
Good, not incredible. My daughter tells me brunch was excellent. One of our other diners said dinner was quite good.
Grabbed a late lunch - sorry to miss my favorite (savory French toast) but enjoyed sampling lots of veggie plates
Always delicious food! Great service! I appreciate that you can make reservations during the weekdays.
Love this place. It's got a great local vibe, great location (next to lake) and the food is consistently good.
The food is interesting and tasty generally but service is a bit aloof and slow. Wondering if success has lead to a crowd management mindset rather than welcoming hospitality. I recommend the savory French toast, but ask for dressing on the side - it came dripping in oil which made it difficult to taste the porcini in the rest of the dish.
We had a truly great time. The service was impeccable - attentive but not intrusive. The food was well presented and best of all was delicious. We’re already looking forward to our next visit. We love the neighborhood and it was very pleasant walking around before dinner.
Thanks for a wonderful experience.
Good food, pretentious/snotty service. I don't need to go to a restaurant where my presence is viewed as an inconvenience. Our server was rude and not friendly at all. I'll spend my money elsewhere.
Best local place for brunch.
I used to love this place, but my last 3 visits have been very subpar. This trip I had a meatball sandwich. It was fine. Mostly bread, hardly any meatballs or sauce. Served on a white plate with nothing else on it. No side, no garnish. Depressing. For $13 plus tax and tip? Friends salad came dressed when she asked for dressing on the side. Last visit I had the pastrami rueben fries. They were pretty much In edible. The meat was so fatty and the fries were so soggy. Cali mixed plate is usually really delicious, but the last time I had it, the salad was too salty too eat. Too many good places to eat. Three strikes, you’re out for me GLK
Restaurant was smoky. Service was ok. The waiter was very nice, but the service was rushed. Food was just mediocre.
We enjoyed supper here before attending a house concert nearby and found everything great. We'd dine here again, and likely will.
Service excellent. Food was great. We had the scallops and risotto. Very tasty. Good neighborhood place.
It certainly lived up to it's reputation! Food was delicious, everything was super fresh. We had lunch in less than an hour, yet it did not feel rushed at all. Our server was able to make great recommendations on the food and the wine list.
The menu was a nice mix of comfort food and healthy food. Everything we ordered was amazing. Cocktails were ok
We went for the special fixed price dinner during restaurant week, which we have done in the past, and as always, it was delicious. The brisket was melt in your mouth delicious, the mashed potatoes so smooth and rich, and the turnips were beautifully caramelized. We loved the chicory salad, and the dressing was perfect - not too much, not too little. One of us got the Prosecco with the dinner, which we shared, and the other one got the tiny hot cinnamon sugar donuts that were the dessert, and we split those. Perfect.
Savory French Toast is a delicious experience and the service is great!
Food is amazing, but bring a coat door stays open even on cold days. Make reservation small diner gets really busy most. A must try is the bone marrow!
I'm working my way through the menu because I was blown away by the first two times I came (first time, I had the scrambled eggs. Second time, the kale with persimmon seasonal salad). I then ordered the GLK burger (at the Diamond location) and was totally underwhelmed. The burger size was small and not very tasty.
The last time I ordered the Cali plate with tuna. It was good but meh. I could get similar quality in many other places and for less $$$.
So, all in all, it started off with a bang and has since fizzled a bit.
The donuts are a treat not to be missed!
Try the GLK burger!! This place has great brunch and I gave it a chance for dinner. Did not disappoint at all either. They have a lot of good options and will definitely come back!
Went on New Year’s Eve. Sad they were out of boozy slushees, but that just gave us an excuse to try some of their excellent and creative cocktails. As usual, food (multiple shared plates for grazing) was wonderful, service warm and friendly.
NYE! Great food and great service!
It was our anniversary and we were blown away by the sweet personal touches. The staff hand wrote a beautiful card for us and greeted us with drinks on the house. The food was quite good and a very good value.
I love Grand Lake Kitchen! They have great brunches, but it gets very crowded on the weekend, with long waits. But it's worth it.
I also like dinner at GLK. Four of us recently had an excellent meal sharing fried plantain to start, and a mix of the rock cod, harissa stew and the gnocchis. All the entrees were delicious. The service was great, too. Originally, we'd booked outdoor seating, but it was too cold, and the team found us an indoor table.
Grand Lake Kitchen is one of my favorite places in Oakland. Worth visiting any time of day.
Small restaurant with a long bar. Made a reservation for 3, wouldn’t get me seated until other 2 showed. They had me stand by the open door when it was freezing to wait to be seated. The bar was full when I got there. Service is mediocre (order takers, not dining guides) and more casual cafe style, though the menu is more formal bistro vibe with Jewish, American and European dishes.
We loved the food at Grand Lake Kitchen but our entire experience was awful due to very slow service, the inability to hear each other talk, coupled with the seating of a party of 3 drinkers (not ordering food) at a 2-person table next to us - effectively placing a loud party right on top of us. Go with a young group who don’t mind shouting or waiting an hour for food and you’ll be fine.
Good food, good atmosphere and good service.
Two of us had the chorizo scramble. One got the eggs Benedict and another the avocado toast. Food was excellent. Have some fresh donuts for the appetizer.
Charming little spot and we all agreed we would go back next time we are in town!
Delicious food and accommodation service for dinner. Lighting at night is brutal though
I almost always get the savory French toast which is out of this world. If I for some reason miss the brunch menu, which lasts until 3pm, I get the chicory salad with tuna. It’s an excellent salad that leaves you full and very satisfied. Other things I like on the menu are the Ruben fries, doughnuts + soft scramble. You pretty much can’t go wrong here, so enjoy!
Can't beat the matzah ball soup. Perfect for neighborhood brunch or light supper.
Good healthy food, reasonably priced. Our server that took our order was barely alive. He had low energy but the other servers were good.
The food is excellently prepared but more than that it is different. I had the bone marrow. Excellent but different. Who serves bone marrow? My bloody mary was large, filled with pickled veggies, and had a big shot of booze. I will come back and back.
Fast, efficient, and staff was so friendly!
We had a delightful brunch at Grand Lake Kitchen. A group of friends were gathering to celebrate a birthday. The service was excellent. The food was spectacular. We never felt rushed to leave. It was a cozy, intimate meal. Highly recommend!
The hostess was so nice and made us feel welcome and right at home when we walked in. The waitstaff was lovely and took the time to go over things on the menu. The food came out quickly and everything tasted wonderful. Great spot to meet up with friends or family for a tasty meal.
Even though the ambiance is not fancy, chose to come to this neighborhood gem to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. As always, excellent food (stuffed ourselves on bone marrow, burrata, avocado shrimp toast, braised cabbage, green goddess kale), delicious boozy slushies (cranberry Manhattan, mmmmm), friendly service. We were way too stuffed to consider dessert, but when I mentioned that it was our anniversary our sweet server surprised us with a scoop of ice cream with a candle. A lovely comfort-food-filled celebratory feast!
