New Orelans. I know good food. The fried Oysters and fish sandwich were off the chain. Little pricey but good.
We ride in the Orpheus mardi gras parade every lundi gras and used to always like eating here for lunch before we rode. NOT ANY MORE. EVERYTHING we ordered was horrible, but it used to all be delicious. They used to have AMAZING barbecue shrimp on the menu that is no longer available. The gumbo was terrible. Shrimp and grits tasted bland and over-worcestershire'd. The crawfish bread was good, but the waitress informed us that the reason we had to wait so long for it to come out was because "we had to wait for it to thaw before we could serve it." I imagine that plenty of restaurants serve frozen food without our knowledge, but apparently now the staff doesn't even care that you know you're being served frozen food. We were embarassed to bring our friends here--it is a totally different place now. Perhaps they lost their old chef that served the bbq shrimp. Do not recommend.
The sewer smell in the entry was absolutely horrible! Food was excessively salty. Crawfish pasta was very fishy and just not good. Chicken dish was overpriced and very salty. We are not picky eaters by any means. We will never go back. Spent over $200 for 4 adults and 2 kids. What a waste.
We ordered appetizers that never came. When the entrees arrived we canceled the appetizers. We ordered drinks to go, but when the check arrived, the drinks were not on the ticket and we did not receive the drinks. I ordered shrimp and grits and the shrimp was over cooked. People were friendly and atmosphere was great. Others enjoyed their food especially the redfish with crab.
We visited late afternoon on New Years day and the restaurant was very busy. We were seated promptly and the waiter apologized for the delay in getting to us. Despite the restaurant being so busy our drinks did not take too long to come and our meal was fairly quick. The good was excellent and we would recommendvespecially the shrimp and gritsvwhich had a delightful light sauce. Definitely somewhere to visit again.
The barbecued shrimp were wonderful with a delicious sauce. My husband ordered the fried chicken with sweet potatoes and devoured it completely. I had the pork chop and sweet potato with apple chutney and thought I had died and gone to heaven with the first bite down to the last. We finished with the Crème brûlée special and did not leave a speck on the plate. The meal was totally divine!!!
We waited FOREVER for our food. After seeing tables who were seated after us receive their food, the waiter responded to our first inquiry about the delay that our food was being plated. Ten minutes or more later, still no food. Instead of apologetic, the waiter seemed perturbed by our ensuing inquiries, of which there were at least 2 more before our food arrived. The 3 fish dinners were over cooked and the $30 "Special" entrée was NOT worth the money.
The tourist trade from the convention center must keep them in business, because I can guarantee that no local New Orleanian ever eats there more than once.
Stopped in one afternoon for the Oyster Happy Hour, then returned the following night for dinner. Some of the best oysters and shrimp in NOLA. The service is outstanding, from the hostess, to the bartender to the waiter, and even the owner/manager. The steak for dinner was good. but can't compare to the seafood options. The ambiance is comfortable and casual, but upscale at the same time. I'll definitely return on my next visit.
I had made reservations for 5, but two people from the party were not able to make it. The night still went on though. The food was absolutely delicious, The environment was very nice and the service was fantastic! I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again the next time I am in town!
FOOD: Smoked Fried Oysters were unbelievably good! Crisp on the outside ( perfect ! ) with the smoky flavor indicates a innovative chef with attention to detail..
Raw oysters were very fresh and perfect size. The whole fried Redfish was photo worthy AND delicious. 9-12 count shrimp appetizers were superb.
The Pompano was in a class all by itself and for those who know Gulf Coast fishing,,,, you know how tricky preparing delicate fish can be. Grande Isle delivers a dish will amaze and delight. Taste AND presentation were delivered with equal enthusiasm.
Cocktails were spot on and served quickly on a hot day. Could not ask for better.
Extremely attentive staff were on the ball keeping us supplied with food and drinks without interfering with our evening. Clearly a professional operation.
I have dined at a lot of NOLA's signature restaurants and they fall down badly in relation to Grande Isle in regards to food quality and staff service, especially in regards to quality of dining experience versus money expended.
You cannot go wrong at Grande Isle.
