Tasty food, but very small portions, and expensive. Nice patio. My friend had the lunch special 3 tacos plus small beer for $19.99 which was ok. I had beef cheeks quesadilla ($7.99) which wasn't much bigger than a taco and shrimp taco ($4.99) and was hungry afterwards.
Great place for a date. They have a nice patio and delicious tacos and margaritas!
I ordered 3 taco & a pint, lunch special and my friend ordered a drink & 1 taco to start.
Pretty much immediately, his 1 taco arrived. When we asked why, we were told that the food comes out as it is ready.
He felt awkward eating without me but eventually started eating, as he didn’t want it to go cold. Another 10 minutes went by before the rest of the food came out.
This definitely changed the experience and I will not be recommending.
Great food and service!
Past it's prime. Food quality low. Service sub par. Menu hasn't changed in years. Womp womp.
Good vibes and ambiance. Loud so it was hard to talk. Food was below what it usually was. Overall very mediocre experience
Intimate size restaurant with amazing shrimp and fish tacos! Hip hop music and friendly staff made it a great experience.
We came here for a work team lunch and got a seat on the back patio, it was beautiful and sunny! The service was great, they checked on us often and were very pleasant and friendly. I would definitely make a reservation for lunch here again
Multiple things were forgotten that we ordered. What arrived was delicious. Great spot though and we will go again.
Definitely need a res for this quaint funky locale. Delicious food!
Very loud place but also very fun. The shrimp tacos were killer and the beer/tequila $5 combo also killer in a different sense. Great place for a chill bday celebration!
Servers offered guac and salsa to accompany the chips they placed on the table upon arrival, but did not mention the extra cost. Although the extra cost may be assumed, servers should still mention it to customers because they present it as complimentary and the dips are not cheap ($8.50/guac, $6.50/salsa) The tacos were phenomenal and came out quickly, I highly recommend the beef cheek! There is not a lot of seating so I would recommend a reservation or to go before 5:30 as it fills up quickly!
Used to be better. It’s meh now
Music is extremely loud. Food is ridiculously overpriced. Service is great.
My visit was fine with a few exceptions: as it was an extremely cold evening, with people coming in and out, the freezing draft wasn't blocked off from guests. perhaps the restaurant could install curtains to shield the draft in the colder months. The music was too loud, causing everyone to speak louder. Nice staff and great value for money. I would go back again.
Was worried that it lost its charm, flavour, and edge from its heydays, but nope, still awesome.
Our reservation was for 6:15 for 4 people during a snowstorm. We arrived at 6:25 and were told because we were late (10 MINUTES in a SNOWSTORM) we had 45 minutes to eat because the table had another res. So you booked someone else within an hour of our res? Nice. Worst part is the restaurant was only half full because of the snow. Our table was really a 2 seater that they squished 4 of us at. They then proceeded to remind us every 5 minutes of the urgency to eat our food. Literally clearing our plates as we bit in to the last taco. No time for drinks as planned because we were worried we would have to chug them. Left still hungry and thirsty by 7:00... which by the way still had a half empty restaurant and no one at the bar. Probably the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant and the tacos weren’t even that good. I realized when we left we weren’t even offered hot sauce and its probably the only time I have ever had Mexican without sampling some tequila. Never again.
Oh, and while we were ordering they cancelled my res on OpenTable.
The staff was great, friendly and prompt with getting to us for any orders. I’d recommend this location for an intimate evening.
We were rushed out of the restaurant by the rudest waitress ever encountered. We had a 7:30 reservation and by 8:30 she brought us the bill without us asking and then two minutes later brought the credit card machine and said you have to pay now.
That place has really gone down hill.
Great tacos and key lime pie to die for. We will be back!
Waited an extra hour for a reservation made a month ago. Was called 15 minutes before to ask if we could come half hour later. Came later and still waited an additional half hour for a table. Food was ok, nothing outstanding.
Music way too loud
Food was good. Unfortunately, even though we reserved a table for 4 in advance, they only saved us a small round table for 2 people but 4 chairs. With drinks and multiple plates of tacos we were juggling items for space and this made the experience awkward and cramped. After one round we restaurant hopped and moved on for the second round. Good thing there is options in the area.
Food is excellent quality, service is great. The only thing I didn’t like is that they dimmed the lights so much at about 630 I could hardly see my food :(
I guess they want more of a bar vibe but part of the enjoyment of savouring the food is visual!
Tacos never disappoint! Lovely service and staff
Best Mexican in Toronto. Hands down. The pitfalls include it’s size and and close seating quarters.
We have wanted to go to Grand Electric for many years, and finally got to this much raved Mexican restaurant, which I believe was one of the first in Toronto to offer "designer tacos". I ordered the ceviche, and my wife the beef cheek tacos. Well, sad to say that the ceviche was inedible - it was so tart it was like the chef had dumped a bottle of highly concentrated lime juice on it that was supposed to be watered down. Got through a few mouthfuls, and couldn't eat anymore - just way to intense. As for the beef cheek tacos - my wife could also not eat them - way to rich for her. Credit to the staff and manager - they were very gracious and accommodating about our complaints, without giving any attitude - and said that it was no problem - would take the dishes off the bill. So we ordered other tacos - the Poblano and Pollo Asada. Both were "OK" - the chicken - even though described as "spicy chicken, arbol salsa, yogurt, red onion, queso" was very bland, but the Poblano was actually not bad. 1 out of 4 dishes. Hm. So - 5 stars for service, but only 2 for food - and that's the most important for a restaurant, no?
Amazing food. Incredible service and yummy cocktails
Made a reservation for 3 and given a table for 2. Waited 15 minutes for a server to acknowledge us. The food was very mediocre and they kept playing the same soundtrack over and over.
Wicked place. Second time coming here, got 3-4 different kinds of tacos (6-8 tacos total) and 6 total orders of the 5$ beer + tequila combo. Overall 120$ for dinner and drinks for 2
Everything was amazing
i am from New York and we have some great taco spots here but grand electric rivals them all!
Enjoyed it, had the chips and guacamole and soft tacos (you can mix and match for about $3-5 per taco). I really like the $1 in house sparkling water too which is nice for people trying to avoid pop. My only gotcha was the music was loud for lunchtime, that might be a sign of me getting old though. I really liked the vibe, food was great and the waitress was friendly and efficient without being obnoxious and cutesy. I'd definitely go back again. They don't over-spice and there's extra spice options at the table. And it's in a nice walk-able area of Toronto too.
Love the patio, love the food, love the service! Thanks Grand Electric, I will most definitely be back.
Great food , but THE most uninterested, blasé wait staff you'll find anywhere .
We enjoyed brunch with tacos, tortillas and guac and chips. Friendly service and nice patio with sun and shade.
