Grand Cru Wine Bar & Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We called before making a reservation and were told they DID have their regular a la carte menu or we could do the prix fixe New Year’s Eve menu. The NYE menu wasn’t even working on their website, but as we could do the regular a la carte menu (which we love), we went ahead and made the reservation. Well we get there and are told they only have the NYE menu which we can order from a la carte. I told the server that we specifically called about this but he said there was nothing he could do. Being that it was 1030 on NYE, we had no option even though I’m vegetarian and thus only had one option on the menu, which was not even good. Very disappointing, we spent a lot of time deciding on the right restaurant to spend NYE so we could have a special night out, and I ended up paying $22 for a gnocchi dish that had more gross spinach than gnocchi.
We have been to Grand Cru many times, it is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. That is why we have chosen it for New Years Eve. It was very disappointing mainly because the restaurant made no effort in making it festive, no table decoration, no candles, Champagne only at midnight, only a set menue where there was no quality / price relationship.
We had the New Year's eve menu which was outstanding! The smoked Scottish salmon, venison and quail, cheese platter and dessert selection were delicious, and beautifully presented and served. At $75 per person, with $29 for wine pairings it was also a bargain. We shall be back again and again.
My wife and I enjoyed their annual New Year's Eve Menu and chose the wine paring option for an additional $29 each--which is actually a good deal in that sharing a bottle would cost at least as much. The pairing allows you to sample a wide variety of wines for that modest fee. Highlights were the chesnut/mushroom risotto and lobster/crab thermidor, plus the always excellent dessert assortment.
When we arrived, they had no record of our Open Table reservation, so you may want to call before you get there to confirm they expect you. As a result, although they eventually found it, it wasn't until we had already been directed to a table in the bar - which was quite noisy. In addition, the woman who greeted us definitely wasn't friendly initially, to the point that my date pointed out that she had quite a...pronounced attitude. Our server, however, was lovely and attentive and that made for an enjoyable evening - although it would have been more fun if we hadn't struggled so much to hear one another. Food was a good value for the pricing.
Grand Cru is generally a pretty quick place for a business meal with good food. Unfortunately, they were ill prepared today and appeared to have one server working the entire, quite busy, dining room.
It took quite a while to get everyone water and silverware as well as for the meals to come out. We had allowed 1.5 hours to eat but even so, a couple people had their meal boxed so they could get back to the office for the next meeting.
Escargot was excellent, soup of the day was delicious, entrees (meat) were prepared as requested, and dessert (doughnuts) was scrumptious! Service was impeccable! This was amongst my many visits to LGCBistro and it never fails to amaze me w/its fine cuisine amidst casual organized environment!
I took my fiancee to Grand Cru for a birthday dinner. I liked the ambiance and the service was good. It is a cozy spot for a date or an intimate gathering with friends. Food wise, I was not all that impressed. Not that it wasn't good, because it was. It's just that there was not a lot if inventiveness to the menu. This is a place that does the basics and does them well. Not a spot you get excited to go to, but if you go, you know what you are going to get and that it will be done well.
My dad and I went based on a recommendation from a friend, and wow this place stunned us. My dad is a wine fanatic, so I had a feeling he would get along well with the staff, who were very polite and gave us plenty of time to choose from the menu (we hadn’t seen each other in a while so we had a lot to catch up on). We settled on a bottle of wine that you can choose from their shelf, and the charcuterie board which came with plenty of bread. We got the lamb chop which, as our waiter had mentioned, fell off the bone. We really enjoyed this experience and will definitely be back for more!
Fantastic wine selection with reasonable prices. The olive appetizer was perfect for sharing. The scallops were perfectly cooked and served very hot. The braised shanks were excellent. Everyone at our table shared their entrée so we could get a really good idea if all the dishes were good (and they were). We would return
First time at this restaurant and we really enjoyed it. There were four of us and each ordered different things for appetizers and main course and all were delicious. They have a menu for wines by the glass and wine flights, which we didn't try. They sell wine retail, though, so you can look around and pick a bottle you want and pay the retail price (no restaurant mark-up). The waitstaff is very helpful in helping you select a bottle if you would like them to.
4 of us ate dinner in the dining room vs outdoors in the nice courtyard since they were not serving due to rain earlier in the day. Inside is pleasant too. Our apps, dinners, wines and beers were all tasty. No single standout, but it is fun to get a flight of wine. Apps were lamb meatballs and Brie, and dinners were lamb shank, duck breast, and spinach salad with salmon. All were quite good, though my friends salmon appeared over cooked. The desserts were also very good. This is a steady place to have a nice meal. It is a bit pricy for a full meal.
We had a very nice Friday night dining experience at Grand Cru with friends. It was pretty packed when we arrived and we're glad we got the reservations (we initially wanted to eat at 7 pm, but there were no open slots so we ended up with a 6:45 spot). The appetizers were good (beet salad, and French onion soup). For dinner we had fish, scallops and mac and cheese (the fancy kind). All the main courses were cooked perfectly. Desert was good but not great.
Grand Cru has become our "go to" neighborhood restaurant, and last few times we've gone, we've run into other locals.
We had the special Wednesday wine flight, which came with an engaging description of the wines included. Our served recommended the cheese platter to accompany that, and it was a great combination, and the wine explanation also pointed out which cheeses would pair well.
We also got two appetizers for a medium-light and high-variety dinner.
Nice ambiance. We sat indoors. There is a lot of wood and soft lighting, but it wasn't too dark.
Really enjoyed our first visit to Grand Cru. We recall especially the lamb meatballs (starter) and a perfectly cooked excellent steak (rib eye or strip, can't recall) but the best reason to go is the wide selection of wines by the glass (and of course bottled too) - there's something for every taste here. Nice outdoor seating; good service; friendly reception.
worst service EVER, this was my first and last visit to the restaurant. I live nearby and had wanted to try it out. It is a good location but the idea that in order to choose a wine that I would want to drink, we would be required to purchase a bottle is just unbelievable. The waiter was really really awful. We had to request silverware and napkins, really? The food is okay but really I have no idea how this place stays in business.
