This is our first time going to Grand Cru in years. We remember when the place was very tiny and it was super cozy. This time, the food arrived lukewarm at best. The fondue was lukewarm and did not taste one bit like Gruyere cheese. The escargot were tasty. The duck was terrible. The sweet potato was cold. My wife's lamb shank tasted like it had gone from frozen to microwave. It just was not the same experience we had previously. We will not be returning.
Very nice place - excellent service, good food. Would recommend
My wife came in later than expected at Reagan and we used OpenTable to find a nearby restaurant. We had never been to Grand Cru Wine Bar & Bistro but now cannot wait to return. We had a lovely table in a quiet corner of the restaurant - on a Saturday night no less - and the server was pleasant, helpful and available but not too available as to be obnoxious. The wine list was good and the two different Pinot Noirs we had were each good. We both had duck, me a duck breast with sweet potato puree and Brussel sprouts and my wife a Duck and Mushroom Strudel. Both were superb as was the shared warm Brussel sprout salad and the volcano cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The cost of the meal was reasonable and we wish we lived nearer Grand Cru as this could easily be a frequent stop. Just like MacArthur, we shall return.
We enjoyed the food and wine selection. We definitely will come again.
Excellent meal, as always! We sat outside and the weather was beautiful. Martinis, charcuterie and cheese made an excellent dinner.
Food was just nasty!
Main course was delicious. My girlfriend and I had the lamb and duck. It was cooked perfectly. We had the garlic shrimp with chickpeas as an appetizer. It was just the right amount of food to keep us hungry for the main course. I enjoy how they have wine bottles around the entire restaurant, all for sale too. I would definitely go here again.
We had a wonderful meal on the lovely patio. It was a little chilly and our server explained that they are unable to put out patio heaters - some fire hazard. Such a shame. It could be perfect thru the winter with just a little bit of extra heat. But we will be back for either a warmer evening or once we feel comfortable dining inside.
Inattentive service, fairly mediocre food, decent outdoor seating. I am understanding of challenges restaurants are facing but it is what is. Not very good.
We waited over two hours for our order. With a 6pm reservation! When we politely
Inquired about the status, we were told there were delays. It was a party of four and two of the entrees were salads! Unbelievable. We finally got the order to go - but debated just paying and leaving without the food. Terrible service. Unbelievably slow. Don’t go to this place if you expect to be served food. Awful.
Very sorry for your experience. Despite having had an ongoing ad for cooks for several months, we have been unable to find any qualified. On Saturday the one we had coming for a stage didn't show up, and one that was scheduled quit, leaving one sous chef in the kitchen for the whole restaurant. He is quite good, but cooking for several hundred people by yourself is beyond anyones skills. You can tell from the other reviews that it is an anomaly.
Food was delicious and the wine options are pretty good as well
Great outdoor dining space
Love that they don’t try to do everything. Very good at what they do. Limited but excellent menu. Full bar. Great service.
Victor is amazing!
It was nice weather so we sat outside. The food and service were excellent. I recommend the escargot and the cheese platter.
My husband and I had our first date at Grand Cru in October 2015. Since then, we always go back every October to re-celebrate that special event. This year, the Grand Cru staff surprised us with a complimentary champagne and dessert to honor our celebration.
In addition to the great service, we love the menu - especially the duck breast and scallops.
Grand Cru was very goog with outdoor seating and an excellent wine menu
Duck confit was very good
Scallops were very good
Shrimp andouille pasta was good expect something spicy kick
Brussel sprout salad was good
Dining on the outside patio was lovely. The food was for the most part very good, though my rib-eye was just so-so. Service was polite and quick, and our waiter was very kind to replace without request and free-of-charge a specialty drink I did not care for. However, things like steak knives were not supplied and there were few opportunities to get the attention of the waiter when something was needed. The by-the-glass wine selection was great, and we really enjoyed sampling with the wine flights. We’d definitely go back again.
So disappointed. I live a block away and wanted to enjoy dining outside. I have been to this restaurant a few times prior and was never impressed but thought I would try again.
The quality of food was terrible which were suggestions from the server. The Beef Wellington was dry, over cooked and tasteless. Nothing represented beef Wellington with the presentation. Our other items ordered were not very good as well.
I ordered wines from the happy hour menu and the selections were not very good. The restaurant was very busy and the server seemed overwhelmed. She was very apologetic.
I would not recommend this restaurant, which is rare for me to say being in the business.
Our only complaint was that service members were not wearing masks.
Always great food, great wine, and great service. Been getting busier, but large outdoor space is fantastic. The lobster fritters, scallops, steak, salmom, chicken…::everything on the menu is fantastic!
One of my favorite restaurants. Food is always excellent. House wines are always very good. The cheese tray is a wonderful starter, the salmon was exceptional and the chocolate tort was the perfect end to the meal. (It is a mistake to get an extra spoon for your spouse.) Others at the table enjoyed the scallops.
It is lovely sitting outside with a nearby fountain burbling away. The staff were friendly and efficient, but don’t offer the happy hour menu unless requested. Request it: great deals on wine and food! The wines were delicious and the cilantro yogurt sauce that came with the chicken skewers was sublime! A great place to spend an evening.
Forgot our soup. We sat for 40 minutes waiting and wondering. Nobody checked on us until they brought the meal. Reasonable piece of salmon plus tiny portions of rice and green beans was not worth $27. Burger was huge. $20 for a glass of wine not even served at the proper red wine temperature was ridiculous.
The wine flights were exceptional! Great Anniversary dinner.
Been here four or five times...always great food and great service.
The food, ambiance and service was fabulous. Loved the outdoor patio with the fountain adding to the experience. Can't wait to go back.
The outside dining got a little noisy after a while which made the noise more like moderate and when we started at 5:45 it was low. Also the fire engines that came several times during our meal did not help
We hadn't been to Grand Cru since before quarantine started last year. Last night reinforced what we remembered from earlier visits. Everything was delicious. Our appetizers were lobster fritters (small, super light and excellent) and duck strudel, also excellent. We had planned to split main courses, so one of us ordered Teres Major, an 8 oz beef filet with a wine reduction sauce, served with au gratin potatoes and asparagus. It was superb, although we ended up bringing most of it home. We both wanted to try their burger and fries because our previous favorite place to get a "grown-up" burger (sit down service, wine, etc) no longer makes good fries. So we shared the burger and fries,, and then couldn't manage to eat the Teres Major. Grand Cru is now our new go-to burger place. Burger perfect, fries outstanding. Service is fabulous. The selection of wines by the glass -- very good. So happy we were able to dine there again.

My wife and I had dinner with our daughter who lives in Ballston. We brought our dog too. Everything about our meal was good. Great service and very friendly too. I highly recommend Grand Cru!!
Excellent, good food, sophisticated, good service, outdoor seating under a tent so you could comfortably sit outside even if it's raining. A bit pricy. Excellent place to splurge.
Very well done in every respect. We would be delighted to return anytime.
I have nothing to complain about. I've been to Grand Cru before.
Great meal, dishes were delicious and well prepared. Service was great.
We had a great meal with excellent service with good friends. A lovely evening.
Grand Cru is always the perfect spot when you just don’t want to cook another meal at home. Whether you want a couple of appetizers, a light salad, or a three-course meal there is something for everyone and it’s all good!
Excellent service and ambiance! Food and drinks were delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a nice date night.
Great dinner with a friend I hadn't seen since CoVid hit. Food, service and ambience were tremendous.
