Unfortunately two of us ordered Caesar salads and there was something wrong in the kitchen with the Romaine lettuce. We offered to substitute with spinach, and got two salads with plain spinach, a few croutons, and a piece of cut up grilled chicken on the top. There was no Parmesan cheese as I would have expected. The dressing was very fishy-tasting, more so than usual, and was on the thin side. Service was okay, the waiter forgot to pour my coffee but otherwise was decent. I think they should have reduced the price or something in exchange for not having a real Caesar salad available, or offered a free desert or something. It was pretty awful.
Grand Cru is a well-kept secret. Chef Trent Conry knows what he is about, and is skillful and creative, with a deft touch. Try the duck, the deviled eggs, the lamb, the filet, and whatever you want on an imaginative wine list. Or shop for a bottle on site. It is the best restaurant in Arlington, period.
I have been a regular for the past 10 years and have seen how this restaurant has evolved from a neighborhood gem into an average restaurant. Currently is too expensive for the quality of food and service provided.
I was not incredibly impressed with the food really. Flavors were ok but not great.
Skimpy pour of Pinot Noir. Bread basket was very delayed (server forgot) and when it did arrive it was stale. Short rib beef was overly fatty, even for that cut of meat. My expectations were too high, so I was disappointed
This restaurant is not the caliber of Le Chat Noir, La Chaumiere or Vieux Logis. However, it doesn't have their prices either, and the service was very courteous, with good sized portions and a pleasant atmosphere. For a neighborhood that once held little more than auto dealerships, it's quite an improvement!
Family gathering for special occasion. Food was good. Some of them were little salty for us, but duck and mussels were great. They ran out of the soup of the day but replaced it without asking us beforehand. Took out dishes too quick which made us little uncomfortable. May go back.
Good experience. Food delicious
Very good food, friendly staff, beautiful artwork. The mac and cheese was delicious
We went for Valentines Day. They had a Valentine Day menu prepare! We had the rockfish & steak meals. Absolutely amazing
The Valentine's menu was great the combination of everything made us feel like back in Europe
Server and wine sommelier were great - we really enjoyed our Valentines Day dinner.
Nice to know that this place is in the neighborhood! Very nice atmosphere, good food and great wines!
Grand Cru is a wildly under-hyped and wonderful restaurant. Uniformly splendid cooking, every time we go. Trent Conry puts together a creative and thoughtful menu every night, the wines are varied and reasonable, and I always leave happy and with a sense of having eaten very well indeed.
A very good dinner with very good service. Will definitely visit again.
Family in from out of town
While the food was good, the service was slow and not very attentive. When we first arrived at our reservation time of 6:00pm they seated us next to the door. I asked if we could be seated further away from the door. They replied that unfortunately all the other tables were reserved. So we sat next to the door. In the hour and a half while we were there all the other table were not being used. As I walked to the restroom I notice there were people sitting in a separate section of the restaurant (far away from the door) I asked a staff person if that area was available, he said that it was for private parties and for when they have full reservations in the main dining hall they overflow to that room if it's not in use. We'll the main dinning room was not full by any stretch so I'm a little unhappy that my request to be seated somewhere away from the door was dismissed because they were full when they definitely were not. Even if they had reservations scheduled we were still there at 6pm and should have had a more flexible choice of tables.
The food was good, but the service was slow in all aspects. Slow take the order, not very attentive to ask if we needed anything else. We had to basically grab the waiter to get our check.
Everything was delicious and well presented, from the appetizers to the soup and salads. A lot of wine choices and almost all reasonably priced!
Amazing mushroom strudel; the ribeye steak and frites was sumptious!
Best onion soups, steak frites, steak tartare, delicious desserts
We called before making a reservation and were told they DID have their regular a la carte menu or we could do the prix fixe New Year’s Eve menu. The NYE menu wasn’t even working on their website, but as we could do the regular a la carte menu (which we love), we went ahead and made the reservation. Well we get there and are told they only have the NYE menu which we can order from a la carte. I told the server that we specifically called about this but he said there was nothing he could do. Being that it was 1030 on NYE, we had no option even though I’m vegetarian and thus only had one option on the menu, which was not even good. Very disappointing, we spent a lot of time deciding on the right restaurant to spend NYE so we could have a special night out, and I ended up paying $22 for a gnocchi dish that had more gross spinach than gnocchi.
We have been to Grand Cru many times, it is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. That is why we have chosen it for New Years Eve. It was very disappointing mainly because the restaurant made no effort in making it festive, no table decoration, no candles, Champagne only at midnight, only a set menue where there was no quality / price relationship.
We had the New Year's eve menu which was outstanding! The smoked Scottish salmon, venison and quail, cheese platter and dessert selection were delicious, and beautifully presented and served. At $75 per person, with $29 for wine pairings it was also a bargain. We shall be back again and again.
My wife and I enjoyed their annual New Year's Eve Menu and chose the wine paring option for an additional $29 each--which is actually a good deal in that sharing a bottle would cost at least as much. The pairing allows you to sample a wide variety of wines for that modest fee. Highlights were the chesnut/mushroom risotto and lobster/crab thermidor, plus the always excellent dessert assortment.
The food at Grand Cru was excellent. There is a large variety of interesting dishes. Favorites included the stuffed and wrapped brie, bouillabaisse. Service was friendly , attentive, and efficient. The dining room is attractive and not very noisy.
Great! Family loved the food and being able to speak French!
Food (steak) is fantastic and wine selection and price is very reasonable. Become a Cru member.
When we arrived, they had no record of our Open Table reservation, so you may want to call before you get there to confirm they expect you. As a result, although they eventually found it, it wasn't until we had already been directed to a table in the bar - which was quite noisy. In addition, the woman who greeted us definitely wasn't friendly initially, to the point that my date pointed out that she had quite a...pronounced attitude. Our server, however, was lovely and attentive and that made for an enjoyable evening - although it would have been more fun if we hadn't struggled so much to hear one another. Food was a good value for the pricing.
Grand Cru is generally a pretty quick place for a business meal with good food. Unfortunately, they were ill prepared today and appeared to have one server working the entire, quite busy, dining room.
It took quite a while to get everyone water and silverware as well as for the meals to come out. We had allowed 1.5 hours to eat but even so, a couple people had their meal boxed so they could get back to the office for the next meeting.
Escargot was excellent, soup of the day was delicious, entrees (meat) were prepared as requested, and dessert (doughnuts) was scrumptious! Service was impeccable! This was amongst my many visits to LGCBistro and it never fails to amaze me w/its fine cuisine amidst casual organized environment!
The food was AMAZING! We had charcuterie to start ; the cantabria cheese was delicious, and pickled red onions and mustard were a lovely accompaniment to the elk salami. An assortment of bread comes at no charge, which was very fresh. The french onion soup was one of the best we've ever had; we highly recommend it. For the mains, we chose the beef short rib bourguignon, which melted in your mouth, it was so tender, and full of flavor. That entree really stood out, and I would return for that dish alone. We also had the rustic mac and cheese, which was also delicious; the crispy smoked bacon pieces and micro-sprouts added a nice variety to the texture of the dish, and the cheese blend was very well done. The wine choices were great; I enjoyed the Boen Pinot-Noir, and my friend enjoyed it as well, even though she typically prefers whites. We also had the molten chocolate torte, which was divine, a la mode. The service however, was an issue for us. We are in our early thirties; we noted that the server was doting on the older dining patrons, and ignored us for the majority of our visit. It definitely was not a great experience service wise, but I would return for the food, and perhaps try to get a different server. This is the sole reason that I did not give this restaurant 5 stars.
Best steaks, fries, and desserts! Services by and Lee was exceptional! Will be back!
Thanksgiving lunch quite tasty. Turkey had a very nice flavor and the dark meat was especially succulent. Dessert was the blueberry white chocolate bread pudding with basil sorbet. Quite creative and delicious.
Great meal. A nice find in Arlington. Good was excellent and plentiful and being able to pick the wine was wonderful. Definitely recommend it- but one caveat is it’s not cheap!
Great for date night! Less hectic than DC, and great food and wine options.
I took my fiancee to Grand Cru for a birthday dinner. I liked the ambiance and the service was good. It is a cozy spot for a date or an intimate gathering with friends. Food wise, I was not all that impressed. Not that it wasn't good, because it was. It's just that there was not a lot if inventiveness to the menu. This is a place that does the basics and does them well. Not a spot you get excited to go to, but if you go, you know what you are going to get and that it will be done well.
My dad and I went based on a recommendation from a friend, and wow this place stunned us. My dad is a wine fanatic, so I had a feeling he would get along well with the staff, who were very polite and gave us plenty of time to choose from the menu (we hadn’t seen each other in a while so we had a lot to catch up on). We settled on a bottle of wine that you can choose from their shelf, and the charcuterie board which came with plenty of bread. We got the lamb chop which, as our waiter had mentioned, fell off the bone. We really enjoyed this experience and will definitely be back for more!
Fantastic wine selection with reasonable prices. The olive appetizer was perfect for sharing. The scallops were perfectly cooked and served very hot. The braised shanks were excellent. Everyone at our table shared their entrée so we could get a really good idea if all the dishes were good (and they were). We would return
Excellent location, delicious dinners & desserts and wonderful service. Fatima Made us feel right at home. Thank you.
