Under construction , no one told us when we made the reservation. I had been waiting a few years to see it again only to be disappointed . Wish they would have let us know so I could have waited to visit.
This is a great establishment, love the history of the place. The food was a 4 out of 5. It’s good food but for the price it’s not excellent, but none the less I would be back again. If you can get a seat by the windows, the city view is amazing. There was scaffolding up while we were there so that wasn’t great but I understand the renovation is complete and the scaffolding is coming down on Tuesday. Too bad we didn’t come a week later.
This would have been great; however, the restaurant is renovating. There was little to no ambience due to this. Service was great. Food was mediocre.
Glad we were seated overlooking river and city lights (ongoing construction was a bit sightless). Our server Erin was very good. Her suggestions and comments about menu were spot on. Excellent meal to cap off our evening!
Nothing to complain about. Everything was really good. Appetizer, main course, and desert. We were very satisfied with our service and meals and would definitely recommend friends and family to come check this place out. You pay decent amount but you get the money’s worth.
Kyle our waiter was very excellent! Great food! The Salmon was great!
Beautiful historic restaurant with great service and food!! Recommend to all!!
The service and food was excellent. The interference of the construction was minimized
We had a very nice experience here. The service was great; our waiter provided us with recommendations based on popular choices. The food was excellent and the ambiance was perfect for a nice romantic dinner.
We had an amazing experience from the high quality of our meal. The service was like what we were use to in NYC. The atmosphere was very romantic with the view of the city. We can not wait for our next visit.
Great for special occasions.
Wonderful place to go for any special occasion!
Service was excellent. Crab legs were over cooked and cold. Construction was tolerable but the squeeling noise when the heat turned on was not.
I surprised my mother on her 59th birthday and took her to lunch at The Grand Concourse. Everything was outstanding, from the service to the food! We felt so attended to and the server went above and beyond to care for us. She also received a free dessert with a candle. It was so lovely! We can't wait to return!
Our service was a bit slow and the server could have been a smidge nicer.
We were seated in the River Room, due to the painting of the main dining room. The temperature / heat almost made it unbearable. The hostess seated a very loud & obnoxious group near my wife and I.........why ? The dining room was nearly empty. The waiter was good - very attentive. The food was ok - my wife orders scallops & shrimp and the waiter told her "bad idea".....not sure why but we changed her order to salmon. I have had much better dinners at Grand Concourse - seem to be a bit off the night we were there. May not be back for a while
We had a wonderful dining experience. The food was excellent and reasonable price. The service was also excellent. Everyone was very polite and cordial from the check in till we left.
We had a wonderful brunch. All of the food was amazing. We had to wait about 15 minutes even though we had reservations. That's OK though. We got a table in the back room right along the water. We really enjoyed the view. They must be doing some remodeling because there was scaffolding everywhere. That kind of took away from the beauty of the building. We are looking forward to going back! Homemade donuts are a must!!
It's a very cool place! I was a little bit disappointed by the food, but the actual building and experience was worth it. Good value, too! Also, you gotta try the fresh doughnuts that come out of the doughnut machine. 💯
Everything was off this visit... I hit up the GC for brunch at least once a month and the place is under massive construction (a lot more than January).. but the experience didn't stop there.... service was terrible: asked twice for ketchup (I still will never understand why it is not on the buffet), twice for a refill, and twice for a pepper shaker (which I never got)
Multiple trips to the buffet presented me with a LACK of refilling empty containers of potatoes, salad, and even the prime rib! How does that happen?
The pasta station employee was MIA... I waited 4 minutes for him and he did not return. His whereabouts remain unknown.
The Grand Concourse never disappoints. Best brunch around.
We were 1st timers and we will be back! We had a one year old with us and the requested high chair was provided and the service was very good.
As always a great atmosphere and wonderful selections. However a lot of the food was just warm and not hot. Even as they were bringing new trays in of food it was still pretty much room temperature. But overall it was a great brunch and we left stuffed.
Everything was what was expected. Our server, Greg, was on top of the entire visit. Great service.
I along with 4 friends had an incredible first time experience here on February 10! We had a reservation for 10:30, but showed up 10 minutes early. They were able to seat us right away! Food and service were amazing!
The brunch was great! The baked goods were especially delicious. Worth the price.
Charley's chowder is not nearly as dense and delicious as it once was. Salad was sub par. Shrimp with pasta was less than average. Service was average at best. Low crowd, perhaps because 90% of the dining room is unavailable due to scaffolding taking up the center of the dining area. We hadn't been for awhile, and it may be awhile before we return.
My fiancé and I were excited to visit the Pittsburgh area and eat at The Grand Concourse. We made reservations approximately 10 days ahead of time and asked to be seated in a booth. Our dinner reservation was for 7:30pm on Saturday, February 9th. We arrived early around 6:50-7:00pm so we notified the hostess that we would just go to the bar and grab a drink before dinner. The bartender and drinks at the bar were the most enjoyable thing of our evening. At 7:25pm we went back to the hostess so that we could be seated. We waited until 8:10pm to get seated and we were not the only groups waiting a long time to get seated. Our table was a small table in the corner of the restaurant that was being remolded. Our table was not a booth as requested and also we were seated right beside another couple without privacy. Our server was average, our dinner was below average. I got the filet mignon and my fiancé got the prime rib. Both dinners were decent at best. The steak and prime rib were not tender at all, I’ve had better steak at outback. Our appetizer of the calamari was average, not much flavor and more breading than anything. The sides for our dinners were actually wonderful. Our bill was $140. We will not go back again, we both were looking for a wonderful evening and at the end of the night it was not what we were hoping for.
It took very long to get our first drink order. Probably about 20 minutes. Then when our meals came out they had one of the meals completely wrong so one of our party had to wait another 10 to 15 minutes for her dinner. This was an 18th birthday dinner for our daughter and her friends. We were just disappointed in the scaffolding in the main dining area and with the service. The food was excellent however.
The dining room is under construction with exposed ceiling and scaffolding. The service was dreadful. We asked for bread three times because the wait was so long, and got three different excuses why there was no bread. "Its in the oven...I am going to get the bread now...the kitchen is slow tonight." We never got bread. When the food was served after waiting over an hour, it was cold and had to be sent back. The manager came to apologize and did not charge for our dinners. He said he would send the server with a dessert menu and dessert would be on him. They never showed up. It was a horrible evening, and unfortunately we were there to celebrate, so our disappointment was compounded. I won't go back.
Disappointing trip to Pittsburgh Classic. We made a reservation and did get seated within 15 mins. We were seated and had to wait 15-20 mins to see our waitress for the first time. Drinks arrived about 10-15 mins after that. The menu choices looked wonderful. My daughter and I chose steaks, peppercorn medallions cooked medium for her and prime rib cooked medium rare for me. My wife ordered fish, which turned out perfectly. The wait for our dinner was 45+ mins after ordering. When the steaks arrived, my prime rib was red outside and in, but after 45 mins wait, I was eating it anyway. My daughter's medallions were well done, brown throughout. They were dry and tasteless outside of the peppercorn. The waitress had her cut into it and she clearly could see it was overcooked, but said nothing when my daughter meekly said it was ok. Again, she wasn't willing to wait another 45 mins to eat. We definitely won't be returning anytime soon. My wife's seafood dish was good despite the 45 minute wait. They don't advertise it, but they give a 10% AAA discount on your food bill. It was a shame to pay $160 for this meal.
The food was excellent, the service was ok. We never got our bread, and although I realize they were busy, our waitress was slow. The building is beautiful. They are doing some indoor construction, so it’s a little messy, but it’s pretty clean. When the renovation is finished, I’m sure it will be gorgeous. The food was a little pricey, but totally worth it. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I’ll definitely be going again!
This is the first time we have been disappointed at the Grand Concourse. My wife's birthday was not recognized, even though it was on the reservation and I told the hostess it was her birthday. Service was somewhat slow and indifferent and food was warm at best. Risotto was clumpy and underdone, scallops were overlooked and rubbery. I was never disappointed here, until last Saturday evening.
Elegant setting, even with construction. Dodd well prepared. Waitress terrific. Great dining experience.
Building under construction, but understood due to being a old building. Overall, I enjoyed my food and service. Would differently go back.
I have been to the Grand Concourse many times and had wonderful experiences. It is a beautiful building, the view is the best in the city, and the service is wonderful. The poor review that I have given applies only to my most recent visit on Sunday 3 February 2019.
For starters, the building is under construction. There is scaffolding covering the majority of the main dining room. It ruins the wow effect of the beauty of the building. Improvement is inevitable and nobody can begrudge management for making their restaurant better, but this was information that I should have received ahead of time. We had a reservation and should have been told that the building was under construction. An email with this information would have been appropriate.
Second, our service was poor. Our waitress had too many tables and we ended up waiting at every phase of the meal. Waiting to order. Waiting to get condiments. Waiting to get the check. It would have been bad service if we had been at a greasy spoon diner. It was especially upsetting when we were spending $300 for dinner.
Finally, the room we were in was cold. Not drafty, cold. It was so cold that we were all sitting at the table with our coats on.
Put it all together and what was supposed to be a special meal felt bad. We felt as if we were having dinner in a restaurant that was closed for construction, but had a skeleton staff there to keep things moving. I was very disappointed and I felt bad for my wife, whose birthday we were out to celebrate.
Our food was fine (if not good). But it wasn't enough to make up for everything else that was bad.
I know the Grand Concourse enjoys a very good reputation. And I generally share the opinion that it is the most elegant restaurant in Pittsburgh, visited on the specialist of occasions. But this experience was bad and I want others who are trying to plan a special event to hear our meal.
We enjoyed the wide variety of food options and excellent service provided by our waiter!
Had a wonderful table with excellent views of our beautiful city of Pittsburgh !
We will return for a future special occasion !
2 thumbs up Or should I say 6 thumbs up. We enjoyed everything about our experience
Great food and service.
We had a reservation and arrived 15 minutes early. We were seated almost immediately. The service was great even though they were busy. I used the valet parking because I was in a hurry and it was friendly fast and reliable. The only negative would be that they were remodeling and there was scaffolding all around a bit of an eyesore. I think it's a little pricey for seniors like me that don't eat very much. We will definitely be back again!
