We were exploring the venue as a potential wedding reception option. Simply, we fell in love. We are very excited to return as husband and wife next year: July 11, 2020. Brian, we thank you so much — you’ve been tremendously considerate and we look forward to working with you during the wedding planning process.
A neat and courteous meal to set up a free-spirited and energetic afternoon.
We went for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. This is a fun and beautiful environment. To be honest, the Prime Rib, is what drove me to the brunch. While the meat was tender and cooked perfectly at medium rare and delicious au jus was available, the flavoring was just fair. I was disappointed. We had a nice time.
The staff worked very hard to accommodate our request for seating in the River Room. With two school age grandchildren, I felt the outdoor view would be better and had requested this in my reservation. However, we were seated inside. I politely explained the situation to the hostess and we were re-seated within a very few minutes as a table was cleared. The selection of food was wonderful and the children were in sugar heaven with all the luscious dessert choices. This was an anniversary celebration for my husband and I and we couldn't have chosen a better place.
Wonderful place to have that special brunch with family and friends. A beautiful gem and the food was fantastic. Looking forward to another visit.
The food was excellent our waiter Gregg was wonderful and very attentive. Only draw back was the constant groups of people taking pictures on the grand staircase which limited the access to part of the buffet
Matt is an awesome server. We felt so welcomed by him and well informed about the establishment. He checked in often. The food was good but prime rib was dry. Loved the place overall.
Always VERY GOOD brunch buffet.
Although this is still an exquisite building, as I remembered from years ago, and the waitress was efficient and pleasant, the hostess was unpleasant and the food substandard from anything I've ever had there in years past. I ordered pecan crusted rainbow trout, that when served arrived with 3 shrimp atop....I'm allergic to shellfish. The fish itself can only be described as "wet" or soggy. I tried 2 different drinks, one from menu suggestion and other one raspberry vodka and club soda....both not very tasty. My husband fared better with his steak and shrimp meal, but his beer tasted like glass hadn't been washed and his sangria tasted like cucumbers and looked like cucumber water. Our appetizer of grilled octopus was not something we'd get again, but in fairness to restaurant, it may have just been our tastes as we never had it before to compare to other experiences.
This was our first visit. We plan to go back for Their Thursday night oyster special. Very enjoyable to be experiencing touch of pittsburgh history.
This visit was one of a number over the past years although I have not been there since Easter three years ago. Our soup and appetizer were brought out of order. I asked our waitress for a soup spoon for my pasta, she never brought it. I asked for fresh ground pepper she never brought it. The linguine was stuck together in a lump. The waitress forgot my parmesan cheese. My dinner mate had to ask for ice for her water. The desert was fine.
Overall, I was embarrassed and regretted selecting the Grand Concourse. I will obviously never return.
First time back in quite some time and wasn't that impressed. It was our daughter's 11th birthday and we never even got to see the inside of the restaurant which is one of its claims to fame. We were seating outside and service was o.k. Cocktails were very good. Food was a bit disappointing. The calamari appetizer was really sweet though our server said the sweet sauce was 'on the side'. It wasn't. My scallops were cooked well, but the overall dish was bland. Husband's swordfish was good, but nothing special. My daughter's prime rib was over half fat and luke warm at best. It was returned and they did take it off of the bill and comped her a birthday dessert. Hoping this was just an off night, as dinners here in the past were always special. This one was definitely not.
Always enjoy dining at Grand Concourse. The bar is huge, the drinks well made, the service is good. The food is consistently delicious no matter what you order.
Overall, thought it was a good place. Food was good. Nice intimate seating.
It was a beautiful environment with outstanding service and delectable offerings. We throughly enjoyed our entire experience made special by all the people working at Grand Concourse. We hope to return the next time we are in Pittsburgh!
It was a beautiful place. Our waiter, Matt, was very friendly. The food wasn't as great as I had expected but still good.
The Grand Concourse venue is outstanding and a real treasure for Pgh. However, my guest had steak and shrimp and he was disappointed that it was dry and overdone....not to mention a bit pricey - considering.
So I would still recommend Grand Concourse but would recommend that visitors go with selections that are known winners....do some research in advance.
We had a party of 9 to celebrate our 40th anniversary on a Sunday early evening. We had the main room almost to ourselves and, of course, the room is breathtaking. Our server was wonderful and the food was exemplary. The oysters were fresh, the starter, scallops, lamb meatballs and brie were fantastic. We did not care as much for the octopus. All entrees were also great including prime rib, haddock, snapper and more. The desserts they gave us were also great, including the creme brulee which had a faint banana taste and the chocolate lava cake which came with vanilla ice cream and was to die for. All in all, a terrific celebration!
We had a great time at the Sunday buffet. I highly recommend!
Sunday Brunch - I try to make it here once a month, and lately this place has been missing the mark nearly every time. This time it was the worst.
First, every staff we encountered did not have a smile. From the reservations desk, to the server, to the omelet lady (especially her), to the meat cutter. I am not sure why or what spell got into them, but it pretty much ruined it for us.
Next, they added free bottles of sparkling water (gross), when I asked for the regular tap water, you'd thought I asked for a free meal! Very disturbing look. But the server "managed" the difficult task of heading to the tap.
The meat cutter, who seemed new, had no personality and no idea what he was doing or even how to cut meat. The table beside us complained and got the GM involved. He seemed occupied with their complaint, so I will wait for the GC To email me and I'll give them my review there. (Hopefully management replies this time as last time the waitress stole my car keys and I never received a reply)
Can't make this up folks! I will give it another try only because brunch options are lacking in Pitt, but like others said, I refuse to do it for dinner because there ARE better options!
Our daughters were visiting us from Denver and the hostess was very kind and gave us a table with the most beautiful view of the city 👍
Brunch. Food not good this time unfortunately. Drinks were excellent. Won’t be going back anytime soon.
We had a wonderful time. Matt our server was great. Definetly will be back.
Over-Priced. Service was poor. Food was like you would see at any low price buffet, excep you’re paying well over $30 a person.
Heard so much about the prime rib but I was very disappointed.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday Brunch . We had a guest visiting from another state. Sitting near a window along the river with a view of or beautiful city was the perfect way to enjoy a brunch. The service couldn't have been any better. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The food and the variety was even better than we'd hoped. We can not wait to go again.
Good time and good food. Drinks a little expensive . Could buy an entire bottle for what a glass cost
One of four diners ordered gulf snapper which had an unusual and not very good texture and taste compared to yellowtail and red snapper that he had many times in Florida. After complaining, returning, and re-ordering halibut, the meal was good. The restaurant was very accommodating in changing the meal. Two diners had Charlies chowder which was very good as usual. Two diners had shrimp with Angel Hair pasta which they liked. Our only complaint was lukewarm water served with no ice, however this seems to be a new practice at many restaurants. Our waitress promptly brought glasses of ice cubes on request.
Made a reservation weeks in advance, confirmed 3 days prior. When we checked in, ended up standing and waiting—reason unclear, while they sat several walk-ins of 2 (our party size), several larger groups. If we hadn’t gone up and started asking questions, would probably still be standing there. Offered a table next to the kitchen, finally seated at a meh table. Meanwhile walk-in’s at the big picture windows. And lots of other reasonable tables available.
The food and service were outstanding. My family and I look forward to returning.
The food was excellent. The best calamari I've ever eaten. Our only issue was waiting nearly fifteen minutes after being seated for a server to come to our table even though the restaurant was not busy. This seems to be a common complaint.
We came here following my proposal to my now-fiancée. It was a beautiful environment for a nice dinner with the whole family. The staff went out of their way to make a special night even more memorable, and the manager stopped by to give his greetings as well!
Love the ambiance, building is beautiful. Waiter was excellent, food was delicious! Will be coming back!
Beautiful restaurant! Food was Delicious! Had a minor issue but the manager was very prompt to come over.
July 4. Exceptional, elegant, outstanding. Our waitress Erin was pleasant, courteous, gracious, considerate, thoughtful, understanding, accommodating, attentive and professional. Every dish was exceptional. Chef was superb. Staff was superb. Waitress was superb. View was superb.
The view of the city was beautiful from our seat
Love the spot....service was really top notch. My food was good plus but my dinner companion did not like his at all. The parking is trickier than ever...the bathroom was a disaster. All in all, I have an attachment to the space which will always be there but it is not my first choice in most cases
The food was amazing and Herb, our waiter was superb; courteous, attentive and professional.
This is a very historic, beautiful place to have a meal. I brought my family and everyone enjoyed it. Food is pricey but delicious. Staff was great!
If you really like seafood this is the restaurant for you because there is seafood in almost everything except for the bread. Even my glass of water smelled like a fish tank. I ordered a Caesar salad expecting it not to contain any seafood, instead there were anchovies and the Caesar dressing contained seafood. Although this is a seafood restaurant, there is no accommodation for someone with seafood allergies or anyone who would rather not eat seafood. Not to mention the host was not really friendly.
