I would go back again but the service was lacking and my steak was way overcooked. My server didn't show up for a long time after the food was delivered so I couldn't tell her that the steak was well done instead of medium rare. When she came by, finally, it was literally a walk by as she went from table to table to see how things were and although I tried to tell her no, she was gone like the wind on to the next table! And after that, I just didn't care. Its a beautiful spot, though, and I will need to be more thoughtful in my food selections next time. If you want a good steak, I guess the lesson here is to go to a good steakhouse!
We dined on a Sunday evening. We were in the River Room, which was nice, but it seemed all reservations were in the River Room that evening. Upon sitting down, a rag had been left on the windowsill that I took as my guest was being seated.
Unfortunately we had the last booth by the kitchen. It was not the most pleasant location, but at least we had a water view on one side of the table. There were annoying flies that seemed to stay throughout the course of our meal.
Our server was attentive. The food was very good. If we had been removed from the kitchen and the flies had been absent, it would have been a very enjoyable evening.
Noelle was the best! Highly recommend her as a server
It was a nice place to eat but it was very expensive for what we got. Longhorn Steakhouse is just as good but way cheaper. The overall ambience was great though.
Wait was a little long despite my reservation. Hostesses would walk through the waiting crown shouting people's names when their table was ready. I saw them walk through the crowd at least three times yelling for "Stacy - table of three", repeatedly. However, somehow, I missed my name being called? Seemed odd. I wonder if someone else snatched up my table when they heard a reservation for the same table size. There should be a better system than shouting names through a large crowd. When I asked about my table, since it was 45 minutes past my reservation, though, the hostess seated us immediately. The wait was worth it. The Brunch definitely is the best in Pittsburgh!
Everything was great as far as food, selection and service. However, having been in the business for years I believe management really dropped ball. We were only a party of six and seated at a much larger table. After we were seated the put up a patition in our section blocking the way to the buffet and forcing us to walk through service area to get there. Then shortly after that they seated another large 2 table party even blocking that area making us uncomfortable and having to squeeze by them to even get to that access way. This was poor management in my opinion. Having been to brunch on other occasions was very disappointed as we paid top dollar to be inconvenienced. Other than that food and service was on point.
We've always enjoyed brunch there, but we wanted to take a few friends that had never gone. We all absolutely loved it. We did a 10am seating, which was perfect crowd-wise. There were a ton of food options for everyone and everything we had was fresh and delicious. This is one of our favorite brunches around and I think it is a decent value for everything they offer.
Daughters 21st Birthday
Dropped off our son at the university of Pittsburgh then decided to try this restaurant because I had heard about it. The food, service, and ambiance were great!! Our server Lauren was very attentive and met all our special requests!! We never felt rushed to eat or leave. The room is beautiful!! It has an old time feel
To it!! I loved our dining experience and will definitely come back and recommend it!
the surroundings are fabulous. a very old building, magnificent and impressive.
service was horrendous. did not get a waiter until we asked, being seated for several minutes without attention from anyone. we had to ask for water, for bread, for a menu to choose from. waiter never came back to refill water, or beverages. food came almost all at once, appetizers and entrees. entrees got cold before we could eat. my fish, halibut, was so overcooked, i sent it back. very long wait to have it replaced. no attention throughout the meal, until finally manager found out about fish. he apologized, offered free desserts and even credited my fish. the right thing to do of course. However, the waiter was really bad, did not care, did not ask about our needs, disappeared for very long times and we had to look for him. the experience should have been fabulous for my daughters birthday. it was at best a very mediocre one. the restaurant was not full and it should have been. my guess it is due to poor service. there were several waiting staff grouped and chatting away and not paying attention to customers at all. so disappointed.
Great meal, great atmosphere
This is an EXCEPTIONAL restaurant in a lovingly restored railroad station. It makes for a quality dining experience. Our table for six was ready in minutes after our arrival. The menu is very comprehensive. Check it out on line. The wait staff was respectful and attentive. We will come again.
Our whole dining experience was great, from the greeting at the hostess station to the service at our table from Noelle. We were even approached by Gregory, the manager, who checked in to see how our dinner was. I was especially impressed by how attentive our server, Noelle, was. She was professional, helpful and friendly -- a great asset to the restaurant. We will to back!
We experienced very poor service during a Thursday night dinner. The waitress was very slow to bring water and menus. It took nearly an hour to get out first course. Would not recommend the restaurant for other than brunch.
The bartenders were beyond slow and we never even could get a drink before being sat at our table. The food was decent and our server was nice but didn't see him much.
It was the best salmon dinner I have had in a long time. Service was also great. Can't wait to go back!
We have dined here on several occasions and when company comes into town, love to take them here. However, the service the last 2 times has been very pleasant but extremely slow. It took 20 minutes before we met our server and the drinks took another 20. The entire evening was like this. You need to hire MORE staff. As great as your food and the few servers you have are, it will be a bit before I try again.
Service was very slow. There were 3 bartenders and none came down to our end or the bar for probably 15-20 minutes. Took a long time for food to get there. We eat out a lot so we area good judges of wait times.
He had the power lunch which was excellent. We requested bread but never received any, otherwise experience was very good.
So, I usually write reviews only if it’s too bad or too good. In this case-we were very dissatisfied with Grand Concourse. Very Disappointing....
Reservation was made for 4 people on Monday night-first day of restaurant week. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all, there were probably 6-8 tables with customers.
We were seated and offered water right away. Then the sever came-and all the problems started and our family dinner that was supposed to be joyful turned into disaster. The server never introduced herself. Took our orders and never wrote anything down, and of course screwed our order! As she was taking our orders she kept pointing her fingers into our faces which was rude and unprofessional! Then she left.
And we were waiting for our drinks....and waiting....and waiting... FOR 40 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!! Our starters came in-of course partially WRONG(because the server never wrote anything down!) and we still DID NOT HAVE OUR DRINKS!
Then drinks finally came in.
But one of us still did not get her salad, so we couldn’t break the etiquette and start eating, by the time her salad came, somebody else’s soup was cold!
We HAD to talk to supervisor/manager on that night. She did offer free appetizer as an apology-we refused. We were not there for free food. We just wanted a good service and to get what we were paying for!
Long story short-we had a different server after talking to manager, and this new girl was great, and we left her good tips.
BUT, the dinner was ruined from the beginning and we left bitter. Will not go back. Restaurant that pretends to be upscale with high prices should train servers better.
The Grand Concourse was picture perfect for my father's 88th birthday. The met my request for a seat with a view. Our waiter, Herb, went above and beyond to make our evening enjoyable. He was attentive to our needs, some of which we didn't even know we had. He topped off the evening with an additional dessert of delicious Creme Brulee. The steaks were cooked perfectly, the salmon was delicious and the veggie meatballs were good as well, we chose the restaurant week menu. We highly recommend the Grand Concourse for dining.
It is a tradition for us to make a reservation when particular friends come to town. Always a great time, however, this time the waitress had to be hunted down for drinks and any possible refills or attention from her, took over 30min for other staff to find her when we were done eating to get our check and then she began to clear another table while another waitress brought us the check profusely apologetic for our waitress' behavior. Food, atmosphere, and front desk all
Food was dry. Had been sitting g in trays too long. Eggs cold. Waitress was amazing though loved her jod.
Beautiful atmosphere but a little pricy. The prime rib was a little over cooked. Love the donuts! I would probably come back but not for awhile.
Had a 7:15 reservation and didn’t get seated until 8 pm. They comped us and appetizer for the wait. Ordered the restaurant week menu. Appetizer of pork belly was amazing. Dinners came and we asked the waitress about missing our first course soup. She apologized and packed it up to go. Not the best experience I have had there.
Absolutely amazing food, great service with beautiful ambiance. Felt luxurious with a gorgeous view of the city waterfront!
Service was terrible. Steak came out raw instead of medium well. Took forever to get seated with reservation/get menus/order/get food. Requested high chair and 2 kids menus with reservation and neither were prepared when we were seated.
The train station is neat and lots of trains and boats passed while we were eating, which the kids loved.
Recommendation: Take the incline trolley to see the river, boats, trains for the view. Go somewhere else for better service, food and timeliness.
Enjoyed restaurant week menu.
There was a problem with seating our party, then our waitress took very long time before even taking our drink orders. We waited almost 20 minutes for our wine to arrive, and had to ask, after 10 minutes, for some bread to be delivered to our table. After our orders were taken, the waitress returned to tell us there were no tomato for the Caprese salad on menu and one other item that I cannot recall. When our orders arrived, one was totally wrong, one was not made as described in menu - no hazelnut crusting in trout, and four of us got steamed broccoli and not the asparagus described in the menu. When asked to correct the asparagus oversight, the asparagus that was brought out was large, pithy and awful. The totally incorrect meal was asked to be replaced and was, but menu-described sauce was not on it. When problems brought to manager’s attention, one meal was replaced, free of charge, and we were offered desserts. At this point we had been in the restaurant for 90 minutes from our 8 pm reservation time and declined. I have been to this restaurant many times, and this was my worst experience ever. This was a special event for us with five friends from out of town on a Friday night with reservations made two weeks in advance. It may be our last visit to this restaurant.
Very elegant, delicious food, excellent service! The menu is seafood heavy, so that is something to keep in mind if that is not to your taste. The cost is high, but no more than for any fine dining experience. The lovely setting adds just that little bit of "specialness" for an evening out, and the service was especially nice, from the young woman who found us a perfect table to the very adept waiter who did everything perfectly.
Beautiful building and good food. It was great for our business lunch. Would get shrimp appetizer every time.
We took out kids and had a great time. The wait staff was great. Food was awesome.
Had Brunch at the Grand Concourse last weekend on a trip to Pittsburgh with my wife. I am not really Brunch person but had a very enjoyable time. The refurnished trained station is a wonderful setting and is not to be missed. The Brunch was standard brunch fare, nothing spectacular but quite good. Certainly there is something for everyone. I really enjoyed the custom omelets and the fresh donuts that are made in front of you. Would definitely recommend the experience to someone visiting Pittsburgh as a one time treat.
The food was very good as usual and we were able to sit in the enclosed patio overlooking the Mon river. The wait staff was courteous and professional. We arrived around 1:30 pm so some of the food on the buffet was arriving slower than usual but in the end it was all there and very tasty!
This is a very popular place in Pittsburgh! You may want to make a reservation. We had a family brunch at the Grand Concourse on Sunday morning. We had a great view of the river, river walk, and the trains that went by. The food is offered as a large buffet throughout the dinning room. This is a very large venue. The highlights of the food offered were the made to order omelet bar, the waiter served coffee, and the carving station. Our server was very sweet and attentive. She gave us some good recommendations for must see sites in the city for our last day. The Incline is a short walk away. We would eat here again, and would request a table by the windows.
Food was fresh and delicious as always. Had a wonderful time celebrating my husband’s 40th birthday.
We celebrated my Mother-in-Laws 98th birthday on the 4th of August with family members in from Las Vegas. It was magnificent. Everyone enjoyed the day. We go there 2-3 times a year and it never disappoints. We’ll be back.
I am handicapped and the hostess clearly saw this upon check in. I was taken to the very last table in the restaurant and when I asked to move just a little closer I waited 15 min. During that time I saw three other customers moved who were there after me. When finally moved I had to go back to the hostess to remind her to move us and finally we’re moved. St that point many many items on the buffet were empty. There was no prime rib to be carved. The seafood station was mainly empty except for the lox. Not a fan. The waitress was nice but just very slow to return and when I asked about ordering a seafood appetizer from the main menu, said she would ask the kitchen, which I understand, but never gave me an answer. I was there for a girls day. My youngest daughter is preparing to leave for college and my eldest is s single mother with a special needs son and I wanted to celebrate how amazing she is. I left feeling very disappointed and paying a lot of money for mediocre pasta choice but a delicious hot donut and Belgium waffle for desert. But that’s all I ate as I really was only up to one buffet trip after the ordeal. I did try a few bites from my daughters plates but the day was about them so I didn’t want to ask for things.
Great Sunday Brunch experience, as we have come to expect. Dined with friends who had not been there before; they enjoyed the food and the ambiance, and I am sure they will plan to return. Only a small negative comment is that service was not as prompt as it could have been. We had to ask for our initial water, and for all refills on both water and coffee, and after the request, it took longer than expected to arrive. Our server was attentive in other ways, and checked several times to make sure things were OK; I believe the room may have been understaffed, and the server was bit overloaded.
The food quality, food selection, atmosphere and service at the Sunday brunch buffet was second to none. I would highly recommend!
