About Granary Tavern
The Granary Tavern is a place where rustic and modern elements mend seamlessly to create a casually-stylish environment. Formerly a historic grain mill, the two-floor restaurant, and gastropub is the perfect gathering venue for food, drinks and fun.
The unique menu is rich in comfort food and offers a variety of locally sourced produce, fresh seafood, and farmer’s market goods. Granary Tavern serves weekly lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
Its two bars accented with exposed brick and beams create a cozy, intimate setting for diners. The first floor includes a spacious outside patio and panoramic al fresco style windows alongside comfortable high-top and hand-crafted wood tables, ideals for large groups. The downstairs reminds of a wine cellar, with granite foundation walls, exposed beams and warm lighting that crates an intimate ambiance, perfect for quiet business lunches or after-works drinks.

Granary Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Loved this place! We will definitely return. Food was delicious, ambiance was fantastic. Rustic, home-y and elegant. Loved that they had a kids menu and chocolate milk for my son! Service was impressive. The waitress had the cooks split our meals since my mom and I were sharing. Fabulous little gem across from the aquarium.
We had a great time, but I was a little disappointed that we were seated at a table right near an exterior door that people were going in and out of all night. It made it quite cold at our table! A couple of my friends even put their coats back on. The food and service was great though! Definitely enjoyed my birthday dinner with friends!
I was treating a friend for her birthday and we were served with a complementary appetizer. Regrettable the birthday gal couldn't eat it so the waitress asked what she could eat and after completing our entrees, we were brought a fabulous dessert, totally unexpected, very much appreciated, which we both devoured. Great service and good very good.
The dining experience began with not one, but two inhospitable receptionists/hostesses. However, the server was great. He was unobtrusive, efficient, personable and accommodating. Then another backslide as random servers brought plates of food to the table and had no idea who it should be served to and waved the plates around shouting "cobb salad?" or "fish and chips?" with no apparent concern that they actually should have a clue as to which dish goes to which diner, typical, but still unpleasant. Some of the dishes were terrific, including the flatbreads and the infamous chicken and waffles, but others were meh. The dining room has nice décor, but the size of the room and the table layout lead to pretty constant foot traffic and a generally unrelaxing atmosphere. Additionally, the road noise from the open windows is extremely obtrusive and diners have to pause conversation, repeat or wait for traffic to pass. On the upside, the location is convenient to the Boston Financial District and the prices are not accordingly exorbitant.
Came here for a late night dinner after work on a saturday night, not too many places other than hotels have a late night menu, with full meal offerings past 10pm downtown, so A+ for that! We have been here a few times after work for happy hours and it gets really crowded, so avoid that if you want a quiet dinner! It is a regular spot for us and will continue to be!
The menu had some new choices for dinner. We had been here a few times in the past and the seafood was really good. On this visit, we tried 4 different items and they were all mediocre, nothing stood out. The mussels had no additional favor in the broth. The chicken dinner was dry. The appetizers were better than the main course. There were mistakes on the bill, which when pointed out were corrected.
Atmosphere was a little noisy but overall okay. We were sat very close to the entrance, may have been better further away from the constant traffic. Food was satisfactory but nothing special. I've been told to come back for brunch. Would probably give it another shot before writing it off
We went with a group of 9, and this was a definite disappointment. One person enjoyed their lamb burger, but everyone else was underwhelmed by the quality/taste of their food and several orders needed to be corrected. Everyone uniformly passed on even looking at the dessert menu, which is quite a feat with this group. Won't be going back.
I took a friend from out of town to Granary. He was looking for a good fish-n-chips place and I suggested we go here. It didn't disappoint in any way. The service was amazing and the food was great. My one suggestion is to be asked to be seated away from the bar as it can get very noisy there for dinner. Overall - lovely place to go!
They refused to seat us outside because we were a party of 8 even though there were tables available. The service was overly slow and we had to request multiple times for condiments and water. It took another 15 minutes for the server to cash us out and bring back our cards.
A typical lunch that should have lasted no more than an hour took three! We will not be back!
I came for cocktails and enjoyed them so I came for a second time to dine. The food was okay at best. I was actually pretty disappointed considering it was on the more expensive side. The atmosphere is nice with the open windows in the summer and it's a small venue making it feel more cozy. Service also wasn't fantastic and I felt like it was because my friends and I all look on the younger side. But we all ordered drinks, apps, and meals and our waitress only came around once.
Granary Tavern offers a good selection of dishes, but we had mixed feelings about the food. We all enjoyed the Bang Bang cauliflower appetizer, which was had a nice kick. But the drinks list wasn't very helpful - it was out of date and listed cider in the beer section and rose in the white wines. The baked salmon dish I ordered was supposed to come with corn and roasted tomato succotash, but came with cous cous instead, and the avocado wasn't ripe. The lamb burger was tasty, but a little overdone.
Excellent spot to take kids to. It has great food and atmosphere for the adults and they have an amazing kid's menu that was only $8 for their meals. That is a steal for Boston. The location is fabulous if you are spending time on the Greenway. We will be back.
Have been here twice now. Enjoyed the food both times --chicken and waffles and pulled pork flatbread got raves from my 16-yr-old son; my 23-yr-old daughter thought the gnocchi were great; I loved the watermelon salad (skip the chicken) and the seafood chowder was fabulous. Fish and chips was ok, but recommend you try the others. Speed of service depends on the crowd, the kitchen, and who your server is--slower the first time, amazing service the second time, despite a full house. Open-air setting even when you are inside (on days when the windows are all open it's like sitting outdoors without being blasted by the sun). Overall, we will be back!
