We are a casual Italian, Mediterranean Restaurant with a large Italian menu. Organic vegetables, line caught wild seafood, pasture fed beef, vegan and vegetarian dishes. We call this food of the sun. A wine program of over 200 Italian, European and local wines. Under Gran Tivoli is our cellar bar Peppis Cellar with over 300 Whiskies, artisan cocktails and fun elevated bar food.
Good friends out to dinner
We were earlybirds, which made conversation easy for this special occasion. For starters, the $5 gran breadbasket would be a good value at twice the price. A dish of warm, lightly spiced olives was a perfect complement. Each of us had a different entree. Each was enthralled. Sides of broccoli rabe with marcona almonds was divine. The service was first rate, the banquettes comfy. We had a good amount of wine and that was not value-priced. As the crowd builds up, so does the noise level. Still, it’s people, not loud, crummy music.
Great location, nice ambiance, super nice service and tasty food - great for groups too!
Food was great. Problem was size of tables. Ice cream parlor table intended for a full meal.
In addition, each table had salt and pepper mills, and the waiter left a water jug to add to the crowded space.
Just enough room for each diner to have a plate. If you try to add something to be shared, there is little space for the plate on the table.
The juggling of plates, silverware and water and wine glasses took away from the pleasure of the food.
Food, drinks, service 5 stars. The room is stunning, staff are friendly and the menu is very accommodating to different requirements.
We reserved at 2pm, stayed through till 5pm at the restaurant. There was a reservation on our table for dinner so we were assisted downstairs to the speakeasy style jazz bar called Peppis Cellar.
Apparently you can enter separately from a side street door but we were helped down through the restaurant. The space was AMAZING sooo glad we stayed and found the NYC gem.
The room is incredible. The bartenders were fun and have great cocktail knowledge. There was a jazz band on playing on a small dimly lit stage in the corner and a crazy collection of wine. whiskys and pretty much everythjnf else. We ended up getting more food as the snacks looked delicious. The prosciutto fish was excellent.
I’m coming back! On a date, with friends, family and my work people. Not sure how to review Peppis cellar but it’s got a 5 star from me and my friends.
Amazing food, great wine selection.
A good spot for a date or to dine alone at the gorgeous counter.
Burrata was fabulous. Pastas good but on the small size. Desserts large. Pretty place, suggest reserving a booth
Mothers Day meal. Gorgeous venue. Food was superb from breadbasket (not kidding) to desserts. Impeccable service but not doting. Highlights veal schnitzel and pasta. Will surely return.
It was a very nice setting and a great place. We had a late booking and it still took about an hour before we were seated, then the food took another hour (when it really shouldn't have)
Very disappointed in the host staff. Arrived exactly on time for our reservation, were told it would be a 10 minute wait to prepare the table. 30 minutes later I had to ask the host again since he had not checked in and he told us it would be “at least” another 15 minutes. At that point we elected to sit at the bar. Should not be 45 minutes late for a reserved seating, especially without the host checking in even once nor did he comp a single item. Not how your front staff should be interesting with the treating customers, as f he is doing me a favor even allowing me to wait at the bar.
GT is a beautiful restaurant visually. Our server, Reece, was informed and friendly. The menu has many delicious options, we have to go back to taste more ! We had read in other reviews that wines were highly priced and we would have to agree. Would be nice to see some more affordable, ie under $50-$60 range. Peppi's, the bar downstairs, is large and fun with a live jazz band playing later in the evening. Their music played throughout the restaurant and gave a sophisticated air to the place.
Alan is a great host the choice of 300 different types of whiskey is fabulous and having the price on the bottle is very nice
I'm not one to write reviews, but I think Gran Tivoli deserves it. We were not 100% satisfied with the fish and the management was very receptive to feedback and wants to make it right. Too many new restaurants are happy to cruise by with superficial hype and cater to the soulness basics taking over New York. As Schwarzenegger once said, "I'll be bock"...
Girls Night out where a few of us had recently had monumental Bdays.
I had written a note upon making the reservation requesting a lively table for a special evening. And we were given the best table!
From the moment we entered the restaurant, the warmth and humor exuded from Allan, the maitre’ d, made us know this was going to be a fun evening!
And all of our waitstaff were stellar, especially Devon. The owner, Jason, came and sat with us and made sure everything we ordered was brought out in the order he thought best.
The food was absolutely delicious! We had squash blossoms and burrata and a mixed green salad for starters and ordered a few pastas—one with lamb ragu, which I don’t eat, but my friends said was great, and the other, a long, thin spinach noodle with a peekytoe crab. It was spectacular!
We also ordered a few whole red snappers and shared them and a delicious pea side dish.
All the wait staff had such grace and personality! They were so lovely and sincere and saw to it that everything was the best it could be.
They also took it upon themselves to bring out these delicious warm multi-filled donuts with candles on them. When I sat down, our wait person had only asked me if it was my birthday and I said a few weeks ago, but they still brought it and comped it.
The ambiance is so vibrant and intriguing. The cocktails and wine were great. I honestly cannot say one negative thing and can only express in superlative accolades as it was just so so beyond perfect and beyond our expectations.
Afterward, we went downstairs to the Whisky Bar, which is in a class all its own for unique and enrapturing bars—amazing music, crowd, and scene—what a way to end the best evening and celebration with dear friends.
We will come back often—this is definitely all of our favorite new place! Thank You, Gran Torino!!
Always a pleasure. We had the table until 8, and then a booth was reserved for us at their speakeasy downstairs. For the trouble of moving us, we were even comped something from our bill.
The food is consistently to a high standard; the staff are second to none in terms of knowledge and personality, and my water was always filled to the top. I cannot fault them.
From the moment you walk in you know you’re where you should be. The greeting, the service, the recommendations and the presentation of food all made me feel like I was in a special spot. My daughter and I had a hard time deciding on our choices but the staff were quick to assist and the wine pairing was perfect! And the food...I Delicious!! We will definitely go back when we’re next in New York.
The menu is way too complicated. I don’t mean that from the perspective of not understanding it. It was just too experimental for Italian. There’s not one classic on the menu. The burrata for example what delicious but the things that accompanied it overpowered it. Just some simple fresh tomatoes and olive oil with it would’ve been much better. And by the way, the olive oil behind the bar is delicious.
I really do appreciate experimentalism and creativity, but when every single dish on the menu it’s not something you recognize, it go to little too far I think
You may want to take a lesson from Momofuku Nishi. Modern Italian, but still with some simple classic dishes on the menu. At least two or three. The reason Italian is so great, it’s because much of it is simple, yet done with perfection and as a result delicious.
Also the food itself was quite average. The dumplings that were recommended were thick and pasty, and if you’re going to do dumplings you better be able to compete with the hundreds of delicious delicate Asian ones in the city.
The room itself is nice, has a nice vibe and we sat at the bar and the bartender manager, Ryan, is a great guy
The menu at Gran Tivoli plays it safe with an emphasis on fish dishes. There's no surprises here. The quality was consistent and the service attentive. The room had a great vibe, and be sure to check out the downstairs bar before or after your meal. Worth a visit.
From the moment we arrived at Gran Tivoli, we were impressed. The staff was friendly and professional, the restaurant and bar were crowded but we didn't feel cramped. Our server was very helpful, knowledgeable and his recommendations were spot on. Finally, the sommelier, Luke, was patient, listened and recommend the ideal wines for our meal (and NOT the most expensive bottles on the list). We will return to Gran Tivoli again and again.
Walked in to a nice warm welcoming decor, and the host was charming. He seated us right away without the party being complete. We were seated across from the bar and the noise level was high and it was hard to hear our server and the other people around our table all evening. The cocktails and food were mostly yummy, but the Whiting in parchment was very salty and plate sizes seemed to be inconsistent with the pricing, particularly the beet salad which was tiny at $15. Service was generally good, sometimes overly attentive, interrupting to clear one plate or fill one 1/2 empty glass of water, and one of our starters had been forgotten. Seemed to me there was still some "new restaurant" honing that needed to be done. Probably won't go back in the near future. We didn't have time to check out the cellar, will go back to do that!
One of my new favorite restaurants. Read about this place on an Eater list and as usual, they weren’t wrong. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating (eg I arrived ten minutes early and before my boyfriend and they didn’t make me “wait for the entire party” but sat me right away with big smiles). The giant grilled scallops in the shells were out of this world as was the white fish baked in parchment paper. Also, handmade pastas and prohibition era cocktail menu. Perfect TGIF dinner locale.
Great, really good. Excellent service
The restaurant was cozy and inviting. The service was exceptional. The food was heavily salted!! Very salty!!! We had an enjoyable evening despite the food.
We celebrated our 16 year anniversary at Gran Tivoli and overall the dining experience was beautiful. The handmade pasta was delicious and the vesper martini my husband ordered was on point.
Great food service and vibes. Recommend you to visit the cellar club wich was excellent and served the best Side cars! Happy music and great ambience. Good place for friends going out for dinner!
Very crowded, uncomfortable seating and small tables if you are not seated in a big booth for more than 4 people. People knocking into you all the time. Waiter messed up an order. Wasn’t thrilled but loved the bar downstairs Peppes!
There is evident commitment to excellence. Dishes seem to all have original preparations and interesting twists. Although we did not love the flavors of every dish, we respected the intelligent attempts. What will bring us back, though, is the vibe. EVERY staff member was knowledgeable, responsive, concerned and genuine. Kudos to ownership and management---that has to start at the top.
Particular shout out to the music soundtrack. Comfortable, sophisticated melodic instrumental jazz---at perfect conversation-friendly volume. (thank you!)
Wow! Really exceptional!!!!
An Italian place without any connections to Italy. Or italian cuisine. When served bread in Italy you always get olive oil to it. When we asked for it, we got a tiny, tiny cap... Not very Italian. Also in Italy you get sorbet between pasta and main course, to clean your palett and refresh. This was a restaurant. But so far from Italy.
Make sure to visit Peppi’s downstairs as well.
The only highlight is the underground lounge. Medicare food in small portions at high prices. One of the worst wine lists in town selling poor $15 retail wines for $110 or more.
I have dined here now twice in two days and I have to say that this is one of the best restaurant's I've eaten at in New York. Service is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Food is exceptional. Beverage is delicious. This restaurant makes you feel like a VIP diner or celebrity going out for a meal. Hats off to this new comer, I can only imagine and long and successful future for this place.
Creative menu......delicious food........attentive, accommodating and professional waitstaff
An amazing new find from the stylish yet welcoming decor to the delicious menu and charming bartenders this place is going to be our new go to... we were lucky to get bar seats on Friday night ... and lol forward to coming back to try other dishes on the menu
Hands down, my favorite restaurant in the city. —-Incredible food, friendly service and delicious cocktails.
Walking into Gran Tivoli feels like you’ve arrived to a warm, welcoming home of a close friend.
It is a rare experience, to go somewhere and feel instantly and completely at ease. You will want to spend many nights a week there as it is the perfect mix between understated discoveries and beautifully familiar.
While not a cheap night out this place is amazing. The service was excellent, the ambience fantastic & the food sublime!
My husband and I did wait for 45 min for our reservation, but it was a Saturday night and the place was very busy. We got a drink at the Speakeasy type bar downstairs which was great. After the wait, we were sat at the bar. Service and food were amazing and the Maitre'd was very nice. Despite the wait, overall we had a spectacular dinner. We will be back.
Terrific service. Great ambiance without being too stuffy.
Authentic Italian with an Aussie Twist - The food is authentically Italian - Northern Seacoast with a bright and flavorful twist on classic dishes - the bar downstairs is a highlight for a pre or post cocktail or just a place to hang out with a wonderful selection of libations from around the world. The staff is delightful and engaging - hope this place lasts for a long time!!!!
