The food was fabulous. We had drinks and hor-d'oeuvres outside which was fun. Great Carciofi! We has dinner upstairs which became louder as it got later, but the food was fabulous! My new favorite restaurant.
Our server was absolutely wonderful. I did not get his name but made the experience very fun and relaxing. Food was excellent.
This was not my first time at Gran Caffe L'Aquila and it won't be my last. The food here is outstanding. No matter what you get, it melts in your mouth. We first received the buffalo cheese as an appetizer and it was great, then I received the gnocchi's in white sauce (chef's kiss- SO GOOD) and my boyfriend received the lamb and bacon skewers (TO DIE FOR). Then we got some gelato and it topped everything off. The only negative I can comment is, when I asked to sit outside, I didn't want to sit on the street, but rather under the wooden area with lights. I figure if you only have 2 people, you would sit at a regular table not he street rather than where I thought we were going to sit. Overall though, great experience and I will be back!
Great food and atmosphere! Service was amazing !!!!!!
The price for restaurant week increased but the food portions and quality were below par.
Great selections for restaurant week lunch menu. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals.
Server was attentive- remarkably so.
We tried this for Restaurant Week and were disappointed. The appetizer was good, the main course okay (I don't know what I expected from "bacon gelato" but frozen bacon wasn't it), and the dessert (panna cotta) was excellent. My friend ordered from the regular menu and her octopus was over done (she had to ask for a steak knife to cut it).
The server was very good, but continually referred to us as "My love" and "Beautiful" - I'm sure it was well-intended but still very inappropriate and unappreciated.
On Open Table I asked for a "quiet table" in the notes. My husband, child and I were seated next to a bar, next to server's station which was also at the top of the steps and in the path to the restroom. hostess fail.
Everything was wonderful! Absolutely can't wait to go again!
I went to Gran Caffe L'Aquila for restaurant week 2021. The food we received was bland, chicken was dry, and the plates we received to pour the olive into for the bread course were filthy such that they had to be replaced. We didn't have a set server and all of the servers on shift were running around, thus we had to put in great effort to get someone's attention when we needed help. Lastly, all of the menus at the restaurant were paper and we were given about 10 menus of a bunch of different things, rather than there being one menu with distinct headings for us to follow. Overall, cute restaurant, but terrible food and service
The food was mediocre, except their desserts. The server was very friendly and nice.
Very good dining experience for Sunday lunch. The best gelato in the USA!!!
Great service. food prepared well and gelato!! Friendly staff.
BEST RESTAURANT EVER! Have been here several times and ALWAYS enjoy the unique and delicious menu items. Visiting from Chicago to celebrate a special occasion and will definitely be back again and again. The staff is very personable and it’s one of the many highlights of Philadelphia that can’t be missed! Save room for gelato!
This is our second time dining at La Gran Caffe L’Aquila. The food was delicious. So many wonderful choices. Our appetizers were creative and yummy. The scamorza was a particular favorite. The pasta was perfectly cooked and sauced. And the gelato selection is amazing. We will be back!
My friend and I came for restaurant week! I got the Bruschette, Pollo al Mottone, and Frutti di Bosco Tiramisu. The Bruschette was delicious! The Pollo al Mattone was a bit of a let down. The chicken was good but a little dry. The sauce it came with went well with it. The asparagus was normal. The potatoes were not seasoned or crispy. Overall felt there was a lack of flavor.
The tiramisu was interesting because I was expecting it to have lady fingers like the description said, but from my knowledge it was just the mascarpone. Little underwhelming. It tasted like what you would expect tiramisu to taste like minus the lady fingers.
I also got the Pompelmo Spritz that was delicious! Overall a good experience that could have a little better in my opinion. Might have to return to try the popular gelato!
Birthday celebration for our son. Very lively atmosphere. Service was great. Everything we ordered was delicious. Definitely going back
3rd time my wife and I have been here. Never disappoints! The best Italian food in Philadelphia. I have never been to Italy, but I imagine dining here is like dining there.
We love this restaurant.
We love the ever changing regional specials focused on different cities in Italy.
Small dining area in the back was cozy. Food was excellent for the price. Great location close to Rittenhouse Square.
7th anniversary meal
The Casa salad was good and plentiful. The burrata was exquisite And artfully presented. Although the carbonara was very creative With a bit of bacon gelato atop, It was good not fabulous. The special pasta of Puglia was very good with eggplant and caramelized onion. It tasted a little sweet but I’m assuming that was the authentic presentation.
Our waiter was a nice guy that could have been better. He just didn’t equal the quality of the food.
Gelati was fabulous!
It’s such a shame that these incredibly rude And incredibly loud Motorcycle riders were just too much for me to have the pleasant evening I had hoped for. Something must be done!
If it wasn’t for Covid, I would have dined inside and not had that noise issue.
All in all, the food is very good and creative with many excellent options
This might not be the best Italian food in Philadelphia, but it is sure the place that feels most authentically Italian.
This is our favorite spot in Philly. As close to Italy as you can get in the US. Great homemade pasta and excellent coffee. Highly recommended.
Very long wait for service but Restaurant very crowded. However I did notice other tables with different server moving much faster. Food not hot but took so long to get no way I am sending back. This will not keep me from going back I will just go during less crowded times. Overall good place
Lovely meal. Everything from the sprtizes and cocktails to the antipasto and fritto misto to our pasta was really delicious. And the gelato was splendid and jealously guarded.
Best Italian food and awesome service
Bruschetta is delish!! Also best gelato in Philly
This is my default place when I need to treat myself.
This is my second time at this restaurant. We had such a great time the first time, we decided to take a friend from out of town there. We were placed at the one table in the front window - lots of activity in that spot and it was really disruptive to our lunch. The service was horrible. It took 15 minutes for the waiter to come over. He the offered water and it was another 10 minutes. After we had our appetizers, he came back over and asked us what we ordered for our entree since he could't remember the 3 orders that we placed earlier. Very disappointing. Too many good Italian places in Philadelphia to choose from. I won't be coming back here anytime too soon.
Excellent as always
Great meal ending with a fantastic home made pistachio gelato
Unbelievable that you can get such a high level of authentic Italian food! And they are in touch with the latest trends in Italy. Very friendly service and great explanations for any question. Cocktails, wine, appetizers, pasta, main course, dessert, coffee WERE ALL WONDERFUL and top quality. We drove 2 hours from NYC just to west
The food was fantastic and the gelato was amazing!!
There is no better restaurant in the city of Philadelphia. From start to finish, the meal constantly delivered, and the service was no different. If you love Italian cuisine, you'll be missing out if you don't find yourself at Gran Caffe L'Aquila.
Food wonderful. Service great.
I love this place. You can stop in for an excellent cup of coffee to go, or an enjoy a tasty cocktail with a delicious lunch or dinner. Some of the best Italian food in Philadelphia, (maybe in the country). Top that off with the best gelato in Philly. Also, if you are counting calories, they have excellent salads.
food was amazing, the waiter was outstanding, nothing more to say this is one of my favorite restaurants in Philly.
The meal was delicious and the service was wonderful. They were so accommodating and nice! This is our 2nd visit and our first was before covid so it’s been a while. My husband and I shared a few small plates and everything was so good. I was so full we didn’t even get Gelato but I’ve had it before and it’s soooo good! Def be back!
We dined there on Tuesday evening and had a very nice experience. We both felt the food was very good. My only observation for the entree I had which a combination of meatballs sausage pasta etc. The pasta portion of that could been a little larger.
Wonderful dish of ‘Sunday’ pasta, sausage and meatballs- service was excellent and topped off with a terrific gelato.
