Very disappointing experience. Waited 20 minutes past reservation time to be seated. Waiting area and bar were crowded and uncomfortable. The food was mediocre at best. Tiny portions, and lots of amuse bouche, bread, and sweets to fill you up and make you forget how little you’re getting for the main course. I’ve been to the sister restaurant Union Square Cafe several times and found it to be a better experience. At $400 for two people with two glasses of wine and average food, there’s no way I can recommend this place, although people will doubtless continue to flock to it, thinking they’re going somewhere special as I did just because they were lucky enough to get a coveted table.

We did the non vegetarian tasting menu. Several dishes were remarkable. The Artic Char was " the best fish I've ever had", according to one of our guests. The tortellini black truffle pasta was exquisite, and the wagyu beef was so tender and tasty, it was the best beef I have had in quite awhile. The service was totally professional. We enjoyed the Barolo, and the champagne choice provided by the Sommelier was spot on.

I hadn't been to this restaurant in some time, but it is still one of the finest in NY.

There's a reason Gramercy Tavern is on everyone's top 10 list. The food is exquisite, the service is superlative and the restaurant is beautiful. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. Fantastic luncheon.

In the past we have dined in the bar area several times, always enjoyed it. Decided to try the dining room for lunch, at 1:45. I'm afraid we won't be returning. The service was too frustrating. Extremely slow to the point where we felt a bit forgotten. Five minutes at our table - no greeting, no menus. Asked a busboy for menus who located someone, finally the hostess asked what we needed. "Menus, please". She seemed surprised. "oh, sure".

30 minutes later, after almost begging for bread, they brought out their homemade rolls. Delicious, but just too late. We were getting cranky. Leisurely lunch doesn't mean we weren't hungry.

We shared oysters, excellent, I had the lamb loin, my wife had the black bass. Both were good. Lamb is served rare, with a slightly tangy white bean sauce and a few ravioli bolognese. The fish was also quite good. So, food was good, but our mood was just not happy by the time we got our mains.

When we looked for our waiter he was hard to find. Then, the shift changed at about 3pm and a new server took over for our desserts. Don't know if that had anything to do with the service issues.

Everyone was friendly and courteous, just at most restaurants at this level, someone is keeping an eye on your table so you don't have to flag down busboys. That's why, if this is their system, it doesn't work. Had we had a lot of check-ins from the waitstaff we would have felt taken care of. But we didn't. No offer of more bread, no refill offer for iced tea.

We won't be returning to the dining room.

Just not worth the expense. Disappointed

It went downhill from a few years ago. Not sure if this is attributed to the hospitality included movement.

Great service. Food was beautiful, modern American with European influences. Dietary issues are taken care of seamlessly and overall a really fun night. We did the 8 course tasting menu and matched wines, it was roughly $300US PP. Not cheap, but it is worth it!

well, at this point, i would recommend the bar in front - the service was from new waiters who had not been properly trained - he did not know much about the wines - the second server didnot know what a triple creme cheese is - the cocktails took 15 minutes to arrive at the same time as the appetizers - my friend's pork main course ws served cold and was dry and tasteless - the pasta appetizers were good but no better than friends who are excellent cooks make - the lamb was basically raw wihtout warning but was told that is the way the chef wants it but the manager who came over to deal with the complaints which were conveyed to the server did an excellent job of assaging our frustrations by comping the cocktails which were half drunk - and giving some complimentary wine and said that after the busy season is over, they intend to train the wait staff - unfortunately, another friend said they would be losing their best waiters over the new tipping policy and i am afraid this experience proved her right - particularly disappointing considering that i have never had anything less than an outstanding experience there

The New Year's Eve special tasting menu with paired wines at Gramercy Tavern was one of the best meals I have ever had -- and that's saying alot. Each dish was delicious and interesting. The wine pairings were perfect. The service was intelligent and excellent despite the restaurant being completely full.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience at Gramercy Tavern. I celebrated my New Year’s Eve birthday with lunch. The food was excellent and the service friendly, attentive and prompt. Its a wonderful restaurant and lived up to all of my expectations. They were kind enough to give me a dessert for my birthday conplemented by a glass of champagne. It was a truly enjoyable and memorable experience. I would definitely recommend for any occasion.

I have been going annually for lunch for several years and it seems that this year it was hard to find an item on the lunch menu that really suited me. There were three bass dishes, one lamb, pork and one chicken with varied preparations. I also struggled with the dessert choices. I also felt that despite the tip included cocktails and deserts at 19 is getting a bit pricey even considering it’s GT. Maybe I would have felt differently if I found dishes that perfectly suited me.

While we love GT, we were shocked by several other groups of diners, who wore sneakers, jogging pants and ordered just desserts partially or just hung on their phones the entire time or even worse: filming with a GoPro. Very disappointing to see the patron standard go down to a tourist trap level.
The staff was very tolerant of these shenanigans, but one would wish that management took charge.

Such a great meal! Great service. Very kind acknowledgement of our anniversary— Prosecco toast at beginning of meal and a beautiful coconut meringue cake for dessert. The black bass and pork tenderloin were outstanding and chocolate pudding not to be missed.

The holiday seasonal tasting menu was incredible. We usually avoid tasting menus but the description of each course was so appealing that we couldn’t resist. It was worth it! Each dish was creatively crafted without being pretentious. Although it was a busy Saturday, the service was friendly and relaxed. The decor was gorgeous.
We have appreciated the restaurant before but this was several notches up and above.

Expensive, nice ambience, classy restaurant, with a happening bar scene of upper class new yorkers. the food was excellent but perhaps too upscale. $129 for 2 courses plus dessert is too much money for what you get and the food was not amazing. many moderately priced restaurants are more satisfying.

I was extremely disappointed in the service, considering this restaurant prides itself in 'hospitality'. We had to repeatedly flag down our waiter, who was so unfriendly. He basically said nothing to us except asking what we wanted to order. Nothing about the restaurant, menu feedback... absolutely nothing. When I flagged him down again to get the dessert menu he oddly came back with the check. When we asked the bus boy for more coffee, he told us he was just there to clear plates. Before we left I heard the couple at the next table complaining to a server they were basically 'forgotten' as well. You may want to consider going back to a tipping system, as the service strategy in place very clearly does not work.

Loved the experience.

Our only negative feedback relates to the deserts. My wife had the quince tart and thought that the quince lacked intensity. I had the pistachio cake which was served with blue cheese. I thought the blue cheese too dominant. Perhaps less blue cheese would have worked better.

That said the appetisers and main courses were amongst the best food we have had, anywhere.

Also, special props for the wine. We ordered some aligote by the glass and loved it. We also ordered Francesco Rinaldi Barolo and thought it wonderful and good value. Nice to see quality Barolo that doesn't break the bank in a quality restaurant.

Service excellent.
